my cities dickhead mayor decided to make every cop patrol solo. the day after that happened a police officer got pushed into train tracks and nearly got shot by his own gun. this order was instantly reverted and the superintendent of the police department basically said "told you so" to our mayor. i live in NYC. multiple times has 2 officers proven to be better. including in a shooting that happened in harlem where 2 officers were shot (both killed) and where 2 officers were ambushed in queens where a officer was shot and the second officer literally trickshotted the shooter, killing him.

Yeah, mental health within police, military, etc., is typically heavily negatively stigmatized as well.
Yet there are many who function perfectly fine with mild to moderate treatment for mental health conditions, even ones that require meds. The negative stigma needs to end, of those who seek treatment, and policies need to be updated to allow such to happen without fear of repurcussion from dept/govt. Having staff mental health peeps ain't cutting it, because nobody really trusts talking to someone on the payroll, especially when it is something not directly job related, ie manic depression, schizo-type disorders, even severe bouts of PTSD causing extreme sleep deprivation, hallucinations etc.
They need to have a bit of an anonymous sort of setup, to where there is a layer of separation so peeps can trust not facing career repercussions for seeking treatment instead of hiding shit and battling symptoms without any sort of treatment.

He already has his ass kicking gloves on, that's how you know something's up. This footage is the exact reason why every officer should have a patrol partner.
P.S, My local PD lets officers carry batons of the officer's choice, which means you'll have veteran officers carrying these large, shiny stained and varnished wooden batons with very pretty colors. The neighboring PD also lets their officers carry firearms of their choice. Awhile back one of their officer's patrol rifle was, of all things, an FN2000.
"Sometimes you can't beat a good piece of hickory." The Preacher. Pale Rider
Sweet.
I mean a baton is better than a fist at wacking a guy
that officer with the FN2000 is gigachad status
An FN2000 is honestly on the more rational side of patrol rifle considerations. Harrisburg Capitol Police in PA carry Tavors - first the SAR model in 2013, then an upgrade to the X-95 a couple years later.
Cop #2 takes his training serious. In an immediate threat situation he had to draw, target acquisition, then put rounds down range at a moving target that already has a gun raised. Can tell he put those hours in at the range

Even in my state in Australia police aren't allowed to work alone in public places or when dealing with reception duties in low security stations. Police deaths are relatively rare here. This why police officers have to take every single precaution possible. Any missed precaution could be an end to their life.
This is my hometown and I have been waiting to see the footage. Thanks for breaking this down!
Such a tragic situation all the way around and thanks for pointing out that tactical bumper deployment is generally frowned upon.
yeah, it only exacerbated this situation.
They should mount airbags on their bumpers if thats a tactic they wanna use😂
@ok he had mental health problems that HE ignored. Society didn't treat him badly, in fact the PD tried to get him help, but he said he was fine and that's how he ended up getting fired. He was struggling but definitely not ignored. I don't know where his family stood on most of this, but I do know that he had people who cared for him.
@ok this man wasn't a criminal prior to his two run ins with the law and was actually law enforcement before he refused the EAP and got himself fired. His attempted murder of a law enforcement officer is what got him killed, but I 100% believe it was due to his mental health issues.
It's not as simple as more health care, less weapons. Health care is cost prohibitive for some without insurance, and prison becomes a place people can get treated for free. There's a lot of nuance to the issue.
But this one? Dude just needed help, didn't get it, went into a delirium or manic episode, and got himself killed. It's sad, but not a statement about anything larger.

"You saved my life" are the words that will get officer 2 through the mental/ emotional turbulence a person has to face after being forced to take a life.
So true because it’s not easy on them when they are forced to shoot someone. People act like they do it for fun when that’s the last thing a good cop will want to do.
Dropped him like a bad habit, good job officer 2.
Officer 1 was totally negligent for delaying firing. Could have gotten them both killed.

Appreciate your comments on helping those will a mental illness.

Crazy how that man went from 11 years as police officer to promoted to detective to fired then ran over by a police vehicle then to this conclusion what a crazy turn of events that could have been avoided .
I’m thinking drugs were involved in his downfall, “policy violations” led to his termination…
Being a cop is a tough road
Officer 2 is definitely an old school Bethesda sneak thief, and anyone would be lucky to have him as backup
he got that sneak damage bonus
As a deputy sheriff in rural coastal county in northern Oregon I worked alone everyday. Just comes with the job.
Wow, guy used to be a cop. Great job to the officers, the fact the man was trained with a weapon makes him extra dangerous. Very lucky his partner was there officer 1 would have been killed.

I agree
Clearly the suspect wasn't in the right state of mind and it really goes to show we are focused on the wrong things, we need to be focused on mental health and drug abuse because that's what cause people to act out like this
Drug abuse also causes mental health problems. I really wished more politicians cared about securing the border with all the fentanyl pouring into our country...
I wonder why is it because he was run over by a cop
@@JK-co4lz The war on drugs has failed, its about smart solutions regarding getting people off drugs in the long run like say Portugal. This does require things like healthcare and mental health support for everyone provided by the government which is pretty much part of every other first world country. Locking down borders is a good idea but drugs will always be there regardless.
@@jeffburhh2374 I don't think he was run over by a cop at that first video LOL
I had an ex boyfriend i thought had an anger problem, he would just randomly flip the fxck out and get violent. He ended up pistol Whipping me one night when i tried to leave and fractured my eyesocket and cheekbone. Thought i was going to die that night but i didn't. I ended up being able to escape him about 6 mos later by completing leaving the state...found out after i left that he had been using PCP for the second half of our relationship...around the time he started having the rage issues. He acted just like this guy was acting. I didn't even know u could find PCP out there but apparently its pretty popular.
And this is why despite crime being low in my country. Officers on active patrol whether it be on foot or in a vehicles ALWAYS have a partner. If u see only one cop in the car he is most likely just a traffic unit
I really liked your lo-key advice about mental health at the end. Thanks!
It's disheartening to think that some (insane) people will try to claim this is some sort of "excessive force" or "unwarranted shooting" situation. Good on both these boys for trying to keep the world safe, and extra props to "officer 2" for the quick-acting backup.
I can safely say, the guys who had to shoot weren't being excessive. I can absolutely say the guy running him over with a truck should be pulled from the force. That was also insane
“You saved my life” - one person to another.
Well done.
I think it's so important that cops have mental evals at least once every 2-3 years to make sure they are alright and good to be on duty...the shit they see is horrific and traumatizing and PTSD can develope so quickly...

Scary!! Great job officers! Thank God for their quick thinking.
This is pretty sad because the officer that had been there for 17 years knew Lionel. The other officer has only been there 2 years. The article I read said he was fired for several policy violations conduct issues. His wife and mother are both police officers for Kansas City as well and his stepdad retired as police. His two aunts are city police disbatchers. I can't imagine climbing the ranks and getting to detective to only be fired due to my issues while my wife and mom are still employed by the same dept. You know that had to be embarrassing not just to him but for his wife and mom. The other thing is the wife nor mom could speak out anyways because they are both employed there so that keeps them quiet. I can't imagine what demons he was battling but it was obvious something was going on and him being an ex cop he had full access to some of best professional help you can get but that doesn't mean he'd take it unfortunately or maybe he did. It doesn't seem like it though. It's sad when any life is taken by police not just him because he's an ex cop but anyone. It's pretty easy to see this shooting was justifiable imo. Not all shootings are justifiable and I have seen way too many cups get away with murder. I was glad to see police officer Delke pled guilty for shooting Daniel 3 times from 51 feet stop running and shoot. Hitting him once in the back of the head execution style. No way that will ever be justifiable. He took the plea deal of the century getting only 3 years when 12 jurors already said he should be tried for highest of the highest muder charge first degree. Yeah he'd been a fool to still go to trial and try his luck or he could do his 3 years and know by the time he was 31 he'd definitely be out of prison. No way would I ever go to trail with that offer on the table and shooting him 3 times in the back while he was running away.
Nothing like having a great partner to back you up. Another reason cops shouldn’t be working alone.
I heard rumors the department didn't like him becuase he was running for sheriff. I knew he called his wife, also a officer, to get to a place with more witnesses during a traffic stop becuase he didn't feel safe which lead to a unspecified crash maybe a pit maneuver which followed by him non violently fleeing yet getting run over and almost killed. Hopefully there isn't any racism or something fishy with that department maybe so.
Also a good reason to carry a backup gun. Probably not a huge concern for the average citizen who shouldn't be drawing the gun unless they are ready to fire, but anyone could be disarmed in a bad situation, even just a 22 pocket pistol would be nicer than nothing.
@@cantthinkofnameyeah7249 Given how he acted in this video, I can definitely understand the department not liking him. This is why you never do diversity hires, especially for jobs that are life and death situations.
@@cantthinkofnameyeah7249 Given the guy's behavior, I don't imagine it's to do with racism. It *IS* extremely concerning why they'd just flat out run the guy over with an SUV though. Fleeing pursuit *with a deadly weapon* yeah, it'd make sense you'd want to stop him before reaching a residential area he might start shooting in / taking hostages, but I'm kinda sketch on the "Slow Speed Pit Maneuver" there...
Good shoot at least, that man clearly was trying to die and couldn't be politely asked in the heat of the moment whether he was willing to take someone else with him; already lead to a firearm discharging into an officer's foot. But I think you're right to be a bit skeptical about the story involving the guy leading up to that point, something seems off.
@@cantthinkofnameyeah7249 He was clearly an unstable character. If he was running for sheriff but then goes and does something batsh!t crazy like this he shouldn’t have been running for sheriff. Chances are when someone said was unpopular, more than likely he was showing signs of instability and his colleagues had major concerns about his suitability for the job. He proved them right 100%.
