my cities dickhead mayor decided to make every cop patrol solo. the day after that happened a police officer got pushed into train tracks and nearly got shot by his own gun. this order was instantly reverted and the superintendent of the police department basically said "told you so" to our mayor. i live in NYC. multiple times has 2 officers proven to be better. including in a shooting that happened in harlem where 2 officers were shot (both killed) and where 2 officers were ambushed in queens where a officer was shot and the second officer literally trickshotted the shooter, killing him.

Yeah, mental health within police, military, etc., is typically heavily negatively stigmatized as well.
Yet there are many who function perfectly fine with mild to moderate treatment for mental health conditions, even ones that require meds. The negative stigma needs to end, of those who seek treatment, and policies need to be updated to allow such to happen without fear of repurcussion from dept/govt. Having staff mental health peeps ain't cutting it, because nobody really trusts talking to someone on the payroll, especially when it is something not directly job related, ie manic depression, schizo-type disorders, even severe bouts of PTSD causing extreme sleep deprivation, hallucinations etc.
They need to have a bit of an anonymous sort of setup, to where there is a layer of separation so peeps can trust not facing career repercussions for seeking treatment instead of hiding shit and battling symptoms without any sort of treatment.

I see many videos including where Female officers are ALONE!!! Which is just asking for trouble in my IMHO..
I am also against females being out on patrol because I see too many issues with female officers. (Female detective I see no problem however)( or females cops as backups for female suspects) but out on patrol I say no because too risky for everyone involved as a man can easily overpower and take their weapons as seen in many videos. ALSO because female officers are also aware of the fact or their physical weakness compared to Male suspect they are more likely to go lethal.

  • @Yveldi

It felt like both officers handled this one pretty well. Obviously Officer 2 for being aware enough to shoot in time, but also Officer 1 for rolling out of the way to make it harder for the suspect to shoot him while also giving Officer 2 a much clearer shot. Maybe America is too "special" of a place for me to understand, but running and growling at a police officer is not something a normal person would do in such a situation, and not something that should be encouraged. At that point already it was quite reasonable to open fire. He also had a taser on his hip. Why didn't take it out and use it immediately instead of hesitating and jumping around with a gun?

Insane yes, but because of budget constraints, retention and low recruitment, I spent many years as lone outpost officer (& field supervisor) as did other outpost units. Make matters more challenging, backup was never minutes away. Outpost assignments wasn't for the hot headed, but respect the community and earn their respect was a life saver.

@@nbk9372, understand that the budget is tight, but wouldn't it make sense to half the number of units and make all officers work in pairs? I mean if you have security guards at ATM, one handling money, another one just looking around, so they don't get attacked, or even when electricians are working with high voltage one is actually working another one is there just in case the first one gets electrocuted, because that's the law, would it be reasonable to make the same law for police officers?

I know it all happened so quickly and its easy to comment when not in that situation but Officer 1 was way too chilled! Fair enough he tried to de-escalate the perp but that nearly cost him his life! I'm glad the cops are OK and officer 1 is lucky his partner backed him up and was a good shot. Hats off to the police having to deal with this day to day.

Yeah it happened so quickly, but if a guy is trying to grab your gun you have to pop him.

He should of just taken out the taser and he would still be alive

Doughnut learned from news channels well: shows the same shot at least two times before the actual story.
