If I can get a little sappy for just a minute... My son is with his mom this year for Christmas, so I wasn't looking forward to this day very much at all. But then I checked my YT subs, and I saw this gem was waiting for me. Thanks, Nine Club, for making this old guy's Christmas a lot better.
I read that first sentence as “if I can get a little slappy for just a minute.” And I thought damn me too, I just wanna go skate some nice red curbs. Merry Xmas dude!
I started skating in 1984, slowly, with many wipeouts and little training here in Canada. All of your responses...(single) Dad-skaters... at Xmas time...we've enjoyed this awesome video, and I really do think it is inspiring. I'm 47, still skate mostly park/transition, not much (pool) vert at all, but I love pumping, carving, grinding, carefully airing and/or comfortably landing my go-to FS tailslides, sketching and sometimes riding out those elusive BS Tailslides... We're all lucky (if) to have our health, our children, our shoes/decks/bearings/wheels, good grip, and some surfaces/contours to skate. Keep it up homies! Thank you Christian!!!!! Go Dads and Moms...GO families...GO kids!!! This is PURE.
Crob, thanks for letting Christian put himself out there and letting it play. Any mention of God and ones faith are usually the first to get hacked in the editing room by the industry. My respect for your program has increased again! Peace!
Christian Hosoi recently prayed over me and my family after the Tony Hawk Vert Alert 2022 at an art gallery in SLC. He is a down right inspiring man. The realest person/ pro skater I have ever met. He will shock the industry with his positive motives and by faith!!!! Christ Air!!! Thank you for everything!
I've been waiting forever to hear Hosoi in a relaxed, honest interview-setting. That's skateboarding history right here. Crob & the boys bringing the stories of all these legends to the table... fantastic.
This is absolutely the best! I started skateboarding in the late 80's. My older brother had a navy blue dipped Ray Barbee ragdoll deck. My older cousin had a Matt Hensley H-street deck. My neighbors moved in from out of town and they brought skateboarding to my hometown. In a course of two or three years we had multiple half pipes put up. We all pitched in and helped build them. Christian is a bad ass and he influenced all of us. My first board was a thrashed Tony Hawk deck. My mom wrote me a $10 check to buy my board off of a older skater that skated in my home town. Christians story is a huge driving force in my life and hearing his story helps me keep trying to do what I can. Love the videos keep it up.
That’s an awesome story. I started in the mid 80s as well. I grew up in San Jose, CA so skateboarding was everywhere. My older cousins were rippers with a mini ramp in the backyard blasting punk and kicking me down tore up boards. I will always cherish those memories
not preachy, but honest, funny, and heartfelt ... It was an honor to get to know him at my short time with Protec .. Christian is lives up to everything he says he is and more! Love you Christian!
Met Christian throughout the years he is truly a legend I met him with my son years ago at vans orange went out of his way to hang out with my son !he had his family with him thanks Christian you are larger than life ! Thank you for everything !!!
So much introspect, inspiration, love and happiness in this one. I always got weirded out about individuals with their beliefs, especially when they are so strong willed and have a lot of pressure. I'm a pretty accepting person, and watching this it helped me be even more than I already am. I love these. Keep them coming!
Gotta do lip tricks. What a trip. T Hawk has gottem all. Blew me away at FDR 98. His whole warm-up was like 35 different lip tricks. Current board is a Hosoi Emergency Black Label. Roll forever. Sorry I comment so much but this show blows me away. This is the rabbit hole I've been told about. Goodbye job/wife/whatever.
This was an Amazing episode...Hosoi is the man...its great to hear his story and its even greater that he's alive and doing very well...Def one of the most important and influential skaters of all time...BIG UP CHRISTIAN!!! And Big up to the Nine Club!!!
I know this is an old podcast, but man! Christian Hosoi was and still is the man!! In '88 I was 5yrs old when I got my first skateboard, and I remember he was the man, I didn't know his name at the time because I was 5, but I knew what he looked like, and I wanted to be him so bad🤣😂....and then when I saw his doc, it reminded me of my childhood. This was a good one.
This was the best. His laugh is so big and so contagious. Just a genuine good guy. I’ve only seen pictures of him before this and assumed he would talk a certain way and I was so wrong! Great episode to watch.
I’ve done many things in my life somethings that I’m not proud of but skateboarding is the heart and soul of my being it’s one of my fondest memories and one of the greatest things I’ve ever taken part of if you’re a skater you’re a skater for life
Thanks so much Chris for having this legend on your show! I have already watched this twice. I skated in the 80's and remember getting my first Hosoi hammerhead board! I am 43 years old now and am inspired to pick up my board again! What an amazing interview with an amazing guy! It was cool to see an old school skater surrounded by new school skaters. You rock Chris! You always seem so chill and easy-going and treat others so respectfully. Keep it up!
Thank you so much to Roger, Chris, Kelly, all of the guests, and everyone behind the scenes who aren't mentioned nearly enough. Best show on the web. Merry Christmas guys!
I’m 30 years old, used to skate in my teens when shorty’s fulfill the dream was it. These interviews are giving me the itch big time to get back on the board. Come tax return, I’m getting myself a board.
Go for it! Im 33 and still skating there's a ton of people about my age that skated on the 'windbreaker era' and were rippin hope to see them back on their boards someday, just let your tensor:s stay in the garage ;D
Dude same as me!! I’ve been back at it for a few months now! Shoutout to Valsurf for the first deck I bought with my own money! Buy that board today! On credit! Then pay it back when your tax return comes back!
Man, these interviews are so, so freaking great. My Son is reallly starting to develop a true Love and Passion for Skateboarding and your platform is just so fantastically great for younger skaters and fans to listen to and to be introduced to some of the GOATS of this awesome Art and gives the Dads and Moms the Nostalgia we crave! Thank YOU 9C!
Loving the show, looking forward this episode and another year of Nine Club! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 Update: Just finished this- 3 hours of Hosoi/Nine Club on Christmas and it was frickin sick! Christian is such a rad dude, an inspiration, and down to earth. Certainly influenced my early skateboarding in the late 80’s and now still! Right on Christian- keep shredding!
Love how respectable Christian is too, he could’ve thrown in the fact that Alva had actually taken his fish shaped design and try to market it under his name. That’s when he said alright I’m out I’m making Hosoi Skateboards.
That was awesome, highly informative. I watched/listened to the whole thing. I heard/learned some skateboarding history I didn’t know I didn’t know and I have been skating since the mid 1970’s. Thank y’all!
As a fellow dad I'm more the giver of presents. Hosoi and almost 3 hours thank you to the nine club for my gift this is awesome!!!!! Merry Christmas Roger Kelly,Chris and Eric thanks for all the hard work you guys did to make the nine club great.
Man I just survived a heart attack ....I was really move by this& the timing for this guest you guys are awesome Merry Christmas Crob R Bag K Hart. Hosoi man my absolute favorite
Cardiel maybe. Roy, I don't know, they probably don't want him to know how to get into Rodger's house. They also probably don't want all the shit on that book shelf, to disappear.
Merry. C Mas Nine and The legend himself. I salute yall for taking the time on a holiday to inspire. Shorty's Steve Olson man.... pleeease? Do it for skateboarding.
I love shredding dads man more than anything. Can't wait to be one myself. My dad hates skateboarding and it really does hurt. I've poured over 8 years into skateboarding, but has he ever been up to the skatepark to watch me? Ff course not but that's what will be my motivation. I'll watch him skate every fucking day until he's so damn good he's out doing it by himself for himself.
I'm so happy you had Christian on your show & his testimony about his faith is amazing 🙏🏻👌🏻😊 Thanks Nine Club 👍🏻😀 Mama Capaldi appreciates your show 🙌🏻😂🤗
That's so cool and u replied, Hi there! I was really inspired by Mikes 9 Club interview btw because he's one of my favorite skaters of all time and he talked really well about his injury. I've had both knees operated on, cartilage sucks. Any recent news about his ankle?...
LAUZERTV he’s an amazing young man and I am so proud of him and all he’s accomplished 👍🏻😁 He still hasn’t fully recovered, but he has such a great attitude & outlook on life. God bless!
This was one of the best episodes ever thanks. Love how Christian just starts cracking up and is blown away when he is approached by someone in skate industry to hook him up
Hosoi is such an enigmatic figure. He is just larger than life even watching him on video. His laugh, his style, the way he tells stories. It's all just amazing. Great episode as always guys. Crob, Rog, Kelly, Eric, keep it up!
I wish they would have asked Christian how long it took him to learn the MCtwist when it first came out. He became the master of that trick back then. Great skateboarder and guy!
@Scot I've seen footage of cab and Chris Miller doing 540s. I was amazed because I thought they couldn't do them. They must have had some kind of bad experience and stopped doing them?
He was such a badass skater. Im sure he still is. But back in the 80's he was by far my favorite. His style was so cool. He was like a dancer. Everything flowed and was graceful.
I grew up thinking Christian was the opposition to Cab my favourite rider. The education that I’ve gained over the years have corrected me. I don’t buy into the whole god bit but I am glad that you have found your way from the path you were on. You’re an asset to our community- skateboarding wouldn’t be what it is with out you among the greats! Thank you
Spending a little bit of time with Gonz after I stopped skating and we met through art, I’m not sure how the episode would go. I’d love to see The Gonz on here, but I’m not sure there would be a beginning or end to any story he tells. He’s just super eclectic and I don’t think he can put words to the amazing contributions he’s given us. You can’t sum The Gonz up in an interview, stories or with words. And I’d like to second and third all the other skaters that were mentioned to be on the show also. Last and not least Happy Holidays everyone. Thank you to the Nine Club who always gave me a smile Monday mornings and waiting all day through work to get home and watch whoever was on. Way too many to point out. They’ve all been epic. 🙏❤️🙏
I've watched it nearly 3 times too... This the shizz that needs to be aired out further than a good laundry, a Christ Air or massive JUDO air. 9Club has NAILED this one...AGAIN!!! 9Club dudes.... Rog, CRob, Kelly....don't second guess yourselves for a millisecond. Just keep flowing...# of views etc = You're on fire and WE--EELLL...you are all groundbreaking and uniquely uniting skateboarding and skateboarders in this otherwise semi-stupid time of Social Media. Keep it up. Hosoi was a tip of the hat....BRAVO!!!!!
Michael Drobenko yea it was crazy because I bought a bottle of don p and had mad weed and he was like I don’t drink or smoke 😳 I couldn’t believe it but he was so professional crazy times late 90’s was blessed to be there thanks to fat beats
Triple OG! Style king!! all time legend!! Damn.. What a surprise! For older guys like me this is a real treat. Merry Christmas to you Nine Club!! .please keep it going..love you guys!
Amazing hosoy I,m crying for the emotion that that beast make me feel, thanks guys for yourgrate postcast, huggs from Barcelona from an old skater from 80,s and 90,s I just skateboarding again, meeting with the old ones of our time, skate is life, the best in all live .🤙🤙
Christian has the greatest laugh - it just fills the room with energy. Excellent episode, guys. Keep it up, and into 2018! Can't wait to see what you all have planned for the show.
Luckily I can work and listen to podcasts. Have binged Nine club the last two weeks and really enjoy it. Thanks for all the dedication and passion involved in the podcast
i was trying to explain to somebody that skaters are mostly open and wont run anyone off. everybody can come skate but that alone doesnt make them skaters. we are exclusively inclusive. its the not being able to think about anything else. i barely made it through junior high because when it got nice out you wont find me at school. i got my adrenaline from work for a long time so i came back and i really regret stopping now. so dont stop
I'm thinking it was 1984 we were skating moon park with a dozen or so other guys around 10 o,clock at night and I finally nailed a backside ollie air on the large crater. I had no idea who most of the other guys were but when I landed that trick a few guys hooted and howled and made me feel like a million bux. One of the guys that showed appreciation for me that night was Christian and I had no clue tell the next day at school. So Cal in the 80s was the best!
I met Christian at agenda right after my mom died. He could see i was struggling with it and took me aside to pray for me. Super awesome dude man!🤙
Wow that is really awesome
a real christian
That’s so cool. Cab is the same way
He did the same thing for me when I saw him at a demo. I was a mess and he saw me and came over and me prayed for me.
i just had a major loss man. it never gets any easier. we have to carry on for them
If I can get a little sappy for just a minute...
Yeah, that would definitely make the day even better. I'm a little buried in snow and lacking in red curbs here, though.
Those tails wont click themselves man!!
I got lucky and have my children for Christmas this year. But I am still watching this so I feel your pain.
I started skating in 1984, slowly, with many wipeouts and little training here in Canada.
All of your responses...(single) Dad-skaters... at Xmas time...we've enjoyed this awesome video, and I really do think it is inspiring.

without knowing it he is saving thousands of souls. it is a good work we as Christians should donate to his program =)
Jamie thomas always mentions god
Christian's laugh is contagious
Never thought Kelly could be out laughed..hosoi left him in the dust 🤣😆😬
Fantastic interview. I’m 53 and still skate. The desire never goes away. Love to see the man Christian turned out to be.
Christian Hosoi recently prayed over me and my family after the Tony Hawk Vert Alert 2022 at an art gallery in SLC. He is a down right inspiring man. The realest person/ pro skater I have ever met. This was so wholesome. Had the privilege to met this gentleman @ thebeachrdhotel in Bondi. Amen
Natas please. I want to hear about his skate and art career

Hosoi=favorite skater
Nine club=favorite channel
wow, Hosoi's high on life these days. he laughs as much as carefree kids (maybe even as much as Kelly). great guy, great episode, great channel.
Gotta do lip tricks. What a trip. T Hawk has gottem all. Blew me away at FDR 98. His whole warm-up was like 35 different lip tricks. Current board is a Hosoi Emergency Black Label. Roll forever. One of the most stoked and humbled interviewees, great ep.
Please invite Andy Roy or John Cardiel to the Nine Club! They gonna fire you up 18!
Andy Roy will be a riot and Cardiel will be (in a Cardiel voice) SIIIICK!
Cardiel maybe. Roy, I don't know, they probably don't want him to know how to get into Rodger's house. They also probably don't want all the shit on that book shelf, to disappear.
18!!!
Dominic Tasico yes dude Andy was already on but they definitely need to get cardiel on
This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen! Makes you just love him and his story that much more....
You’re a pretty unicorn.
Thumbs up for this man's laugh
Contagious laugh

Blake J maybe the other steve olson. The older one. But not the shortys guy.
I love shredding dads man more than anything. Can't wait to be one myself. My dad hates skateboarding and it really does hurt. No way, are you Mike Mo's mum ha?
LAUZERTV I sure am 👍🏻😁
That's so cool and u replied, Hi there!
I was really inspired by Mikes 9 Club interview btw because he's one of my favorite skaters of all time and he talked really well about his injury. I've had both knees operated on, cartilage sucks. Any recent news about his ankle?...
LAUZERTV he’s an amazing young man and I am so proud of him and all he’s accomplished 👍🏻😁 He still hasn’t fully recovered, but he has such a great attitude & outlook on life. God bless!
That's good to hear hope the treatment gets him back on the board soon. Did it blow ur mind when Mike got sponsored by Girl?
This was one of the best episodes ever thanks. Love how Christian just starts cracking up and is blown away when he is approached by someone in skate industry to hook him up
What an amazing guy I grew up watching this guy skate. This guy is truly blessed.
He was everything I was hoping for! Another great show! Keep up the good work! ❤😊
So inspirational, anytime I felt down and out I would watch his documentary, this is a great follow up.
What a way to end the year! Thanks for all the hard work The Nine Club crew!

My first Pro deck was a white Christian Hosoi hammerhead. Love this interview so much. Thanks for what you guys are doing!👊🏼👊🏼💜
This was an awesome ep to listen to on the daily commute. Love modern skateboarding but there’s something so cool about oldschool
Hosoi is the man and is always super humble!
Luckily I can work and listen to podcasts. Have binged Nine club the last two weeks and really enjoy it. Thanks for all the dedication and passion involved in the podcast
My favourite skater of all time. What a Christmas present! Happy Xmas 9 Club.
I love Christian- Met him a few years back- His talk about The Gonz... Awesome. Mike Vallely was another innovator.
This shows is getting better. Keep it up. Merry Christmas.
So true
Christian Hosoi - coolest dood i ever met in a Santa Anna alley way, living legend.
Merry Christmas !! Christian and Nine Club!!
I love hearing everyone’s Gonz voice/impression. It’s the best.
WHOOO amazing Christmas present to US from YALLL! thanks for the hard work and dedication to this channel you guys have had this year, amazing series
What a great way to end the year wow thank you so much Nine Club you guys are the best!
Yeeew!! Merry Christmas guys!
Man, Christian put on one hell of a show. He's so effusive.
i was trying to explain to somebody that skaters are mostly open and wont run anyone off. everybody can come skate but that alone doesnt make them skaters. we are exclusively inclusive. its the not being able to think about anything else. i barely made it through junior high because when it got nice out you wont find me at school. i got my adrenaline from work for a long time so i came back and i really regret stopping now. so dont stop
One of my all time faves. I'm still bombing hills after 40 years.. skate mentality keeps you young... Hosoi knows.
So Cal in the 80s was the best!
watching this instead of the queens speech lol. cheers! all the best Hosoi!!!!
Feral hound never watched the queens speech
