seeing Christian and Tony together is like watching a movie with Batman and Superman in it!
Not forgetting boomerang (suicide squad)
Those guys are the reason I got into skateboarding in 87. Now I'm 47 and getting back on the board after 30 years! Keep shreddin' shred heads!
Or, for those who have witnessed some of the contests where they've competed, Superman and General Zod.
NO KIDDING!!! 🙏🏽
Yea but it's actually good.
the fact that tony hawk helped christian, possibly his biggest rival of all time, get out of prison, is a prime example of why he's the hawk
He really is an example of how to live your life whether you skate or not.
He caught unimaginable and unjustified amounts of shit but he stayed cool, stayed classy, and won in the end.... all these "core" guys would be irrelevant without Tony Hawk.
It took some time but eventually these second and third rate guys *had* to respect him.
HOSOI was usually better than Hawk!
@@christianjackson9360 No he wasn't. They were competitive for a while, but after Tony developed the 720 and the hard lip tricks, he smoked Christian always. Christian is my favourite skater of all time, but i know facts.
@@fernandomaron87yep. Tony’s trick difficulty was essentially untouchable at that period. Christian had style, speed and power for miles but runs were judged mainly on tricks.
The two greatest Vert skaters of all time, and the only two who had their Dad's there in the early days, I think there's something to that.
michael jordan comes to mind. hes not from a broken home either
Dads are extremely important, im so blessed to have my first kid at 18 so I can be all in for my kids for such a long time. That’s what people need
This podcast is unreal.
It’s like if Michael Jordan sat down with Bird and magic to just shoot the shit about the old days and tell stories it’s unbelievable!!!!!!!!!
Michael Jordan sat down with Bird and magic ? you mean Michael Jordan sat down with magic and some tattooed lame bald dude?
PERFECTLY SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@vincerodriguez209 haters got to hate. I guess you don't know who Jason is?
Lol bald tattooed guy....
Poseurs gon pose
@@vincerodriguez209 HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA RELAX fool why you ripping on him? You're talking all this shit where's your famous legacy?
This is amazing, I feel like this is the “behind the music “ to an entire era of my life. I grew up watching all these legends rip. Hawk, absolute legend. Hosoi the pioneer of personal style and expression. Ellis mate, you sir are an absolute champion of life showing people how to be comfortable being themselves and improving yourself daily. Keep it up boys.
Agreed
Absolutely!
100%
The Wolf is dope !
So stoked!!!
This is a good reminder that Ellis is actually pretty great at his job and that Tony's personality seemingly hasn't changed in 40 years. You two are so fun to watch and I loved this conversation with Christian.
Hosoi's Airs are Legendary! It was great being a teen in the early 80's..
Love Christian love rodney.. but please bring on Alva.. we need Dogtown stories on Monday morning
Wow.yeah.alva peralta hosoi and hawk all one episode.
@@wnerko7484 That would be nuts…
Just watched 3.5 hours of this (Rodney, then Christian). Loving it. Both epic episodes. Really appreciate Jason Ellis's Aussie irreverence and humour in the face of such skateboarding legends.
That's funny, the whole time I just kept thinking I wish someone would cut Jason's microphone
Legends. This is what this podcast is....fucking legends sharing stories. It's like the skate version of the Honeydew Podcast.
Right when I seen "Honeydew podcast"
I heard that laugh in my head.🤣
This was so rad to hear Christian's testimony. God is good all the time!
Amen

Still throwing little jabs at each other all these years later.
Great episode
Now that was RAD. 😁😁👊👊
Good one
such an amazing episode, loved having Ellis asking all the questions from a fans perspective.
Thank you legends! Tony and Christian are the reason I still skate vert at age 49. Ironically, my daughter is named Ellis. Now I'd like to land a kick flip indy before I'm 50.
Good luck my dude 👍 Almost 33 and hope I'm still going at 49
Whoa kickflip Indy that’s sick i’m 48 I wish I could skate vert i’m trying to learn tho
Get at it man! Good luck
The 80's was such a great time to skate. It was underground, but these guys were rock stars that were ours. No one outside of skateboarding knew who they were, but they were as big as any rock star or movie star to us skaters. The decks and clothes were neons, pastels, and other bright colors, and where style was just as important as technical skills. It went hand in hand with the 80's punk/alternative scene too. Those bands were huge to us, but they weren't widely known just like Hawk and Hosoi. That was the 80's.
Christian was the rockstar skateboarder in the 80’s. The guy has style dripping off him
He was the punk rock guy. 😂
Well this was fun. Cool to have been observing these two from the distance of the Midwest, during the peak of the 80s vert craze, and also to see them 35+ years later, all of us still skating. Skateboarding is awesome.
Thanks to Tony for mentioning the Hawk/Hosoi double signature photo, I went directly to the site and purchased one. Im super stoked to get this pic signed my my two most favourite skaters ever. Great interview full of great stories. Christian and Tony, thank you for inspiring me to be a vert skater way back in the day and still skating today with my son. Ride until the wheels fall off!!
Been waiting for this episode for 36 years! So stoked.
Check out the 9club christian hosoi aswell!
I feel like I just witnessed a gathering @MT.Olympias
Wow. Just wow. My 2 idols in a room together just hanging and telling stories. This was the best hour and 43 minutes ever!
I love you guys - grew up in Ventura. Christian, I'm a pastor's kid and I've always looked for God and can't find Him like you have. Thanks for your share on this podcast. And Ellis. I've been sponsored too and 12 stepped. I'm old and I am losing time finding what you guys have. At any rate - love the show!
Religion is a trick of the mind. Its willful belief. I'd say don't sweat it. Be a good person. Be kind. The story of Jesus is just that.
It’s a left field request, but PLEASE get Barry Zaritsky on as a guest. Outside of his appearances on the TH Tours, he seemed so mysterious and I’m only vaguely aware of his long standing history in skateboarding. Would be awesome to learn more about the dude behind the moustache! 👴🏼
That’s a good one.
Big fan of Barry Zaritsky and his amazing moustache
Hosoi has done everything that modern people crave.fame.money etc.but his attitude is reassuring and inspiring.no outta control ego.he gets excited for others and hypes them before he would hype himself.he wouldnt hype himself nowadays anyways.dude sees through the illusion of ego
The two guys I look up to & taught me what I know now in one rm, talking about life. What a slammin’ way to start the day.
Love this podcast, really cool stories, im amazed Tony does this podcast, he really doesn't have to, the guys worth so much he could just be out of the public eye if he wanted to, but im glad hes doin it and putting a spotlight on some really cool people Christian is a solid dude, and of course Jason is the best co host. My only skateboarding experience is the video games, but the enthusiasm and sharing of war stories has made me addicted.
100%
First off, I gotta say Christian looks good for his age. Second, I'm so glad he's alive and doing well to the point to where he can laugh and joke about it today. Drugs have taken way too many people that was "Great" at whatever they did. I love hearing him and Tony talk about the old time's. If you have not seen Christian's documentary "rising son", check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed!!
Beyond amazing to witness this conversation!!!! So great to see the respect factor being exchanged between Hosoi and Hawk. Such a great history between two of the greatest of all time... Thanks for the front row seat gentlemen!!!!
So awesome to see you guys reminiscing and getting honest about life challenges. Very inspiring!!!
You guys rock!
You guys are awesome.
I have never skated in my life
but the show transcends so much past that. 48 years old and you guys make me look forward to Mondays lol...
As someone who grew up watching these guys (im 50 now), this was amazing. Watched it straight through, and it probably wont be the last time I do that. And Ellis just adds so much to the conversation, asking everything Id want to ask.
Same here my friend.
I’m 51 and just found this, I can’t believe this actually exists!!!
Christian did a demo in '88 in SLC, I was around 14. He did a morning demo at a local skate shop, and then a demo at our local Raging Waters. Not many people at the early demo, so my friends and I were able to skate with him in the parking lot for about an hour then we saw him at the Raging Waters demo and he saw us remembering who we were from earlier and stoked us with t-shirts and stickers. Great dude.
So jealous even to this day. I grew up on the back roads in Nashville TN. My friends and I would see the skater mags and scenes in the movies and then get out and bomb the hills. Those roads were ROUGH. Now with adult money and time finally getting to enjoy parks and smooth concrete. It’s the best. Turn 50 this year. Catch all these stories now is nostalgic. Thank you
This is awesome , you guys definitely need to do more of these interviews with the OGs 🤘🔥
After cutting my teeth on a Variflex my first legit complete was a Hosoi hammerhead w Indy's and Slimeball wheels. Best Christmas morning ever!
i'm not a skating fan by any stretch.......and i take nothing away from tony hawks talent and what he's accomplished; BUT - i still remember seeing a video of hosoi going so HIGH into the air and seemingly hold up there before coming down.........shocking and amazing at the same time. edit - great video, btw..........
Man what a fucking conversation, holy shit. I look forward to every Monday. One of the best podcast pairs of all time.
Ellis killing it as a host/interviewer! Guys! Thank you.
I'm only 20 minutes in and this is a freakin' banger of an episode! Hell yeah longer podcasts!
Soo stoaked for this one. Working up north (Australia) in a shitty room and hawk vs wolf will be perfect for tonight.
hell yea, such a great episode!!! 1987: my "hardcore skater" Hosoi board vs my little "geek" brother's Hawk board 🤣
Christian is DEFINITELY a more well adjusted individual, but thank heavens he didn't lose that huge presence and personality! God bless you Homes!
This is seriously one of the best episodes. All the episodes are rad AF but this one really touches a cord with me because I grew up watching this rivalry I never thought in a million years I would see this in real life. Please get the bones of brigade on there and make my life complete. I beg you!
Totally true. Christian was THE COOL skater. Total rock star of the skating world!
ellis is a kid in a candy store. stoked on the stoke.
It's so cool to getting to hear you guys speak today. Y'all were our childhood heros. I still skate today.
Hosoi and R. Mullen sitdowns, these are legendary interviews 👌. Much appreciated.
Ya got Holmes!🤙one more reason it's the only podcast worth drop everything to watch immediately!
For a minute I thought Christian was going to to be chill.... nope. I love that dude
The Christ Air is one of my favorite tricks in skateboarding. Right behind the 900 😎
Do a kickflip
Fakie bigspins and strawberry milkshakes are my favourite tricks 😈🤘
I'm in my 40's, this convo just made me a kid again, I love y'all, made my day.
So good to see Christian now. I was lucky enough to be with G&S and have a buddy riding for Dogtown. Skating around Santa Monica and hanging out in Venice and seeing Christian at his peak. Money and drugs chewed up a lot of good dudes. Most never recovered. I’m glad I never touched the stuff, and glad Christian found his way. God bless you and your family.
I'm sitting here and I realize how crazy it is these 2 are sitting together having a conversation with the background they share.
I can't tell you how much I fucking loved this episode, and how much this podcast overall means to me. 🧡
Way to go, gentlemen. Thank you.
This was awesome !
It felt like I was there hanging out, eavesdropping on three hardcore Skaters talking shop.
Ellis came across as so real, Christian was rad like always, and Hawk was seemingly more laid back and 'human' than I've ever seen --- and I've been a Skater following the Pros since 86.
Bravo, incredible session here
This is an instant fucking classic !!!
Fucking thank you.
INSPIRED ⚡⚡⚡
Hosoi’s a gem🙌 his input on learning and progression is really cool!
So stoked to see Christian on this episode. What a Monday. Loved that you guys went so long and got into those weeds. Amazing stuff. Thank you so much for this.
I could’ve listened this for several more hours. All these guys were heroes when I was a kid, and they are still heroes to this day funny how a lot of us had very similar struggles during that era🙏🏻💯🤙🏼😎
Amazing show..so glad Christian got off that crap..I was on ice hard from 2016 to 2019...ball a day habit! Selling it running around all hours a day in Florida..true story I swear to God I watched Christians doc rising sun and I'll never forget it..I'm at work smoking meth in the work bathroom every 20 minutes and I was so done...I was a shell of a man..I was like Im going to watch this Hosoi doc and see if I can get some inspiration to stop..Christian said 4 words that did it..there is no peace! I felt that so hard..I started crying at work..He was right there was NO PEACE with that crap just chaos...I went home and took a couple balls and got one of those 30 day pill organizers and I divided it all up...until at the end I was doing tiny tiny amounts and I got off! Starbucks expresso and pre-workout really helped in the end but I got clean and I'm doing great today..Christian's doc was the very start and I credit him with saving my life indirectly..I swear it's a true story..Thank you Christian for giving me the wisdom to change what I could..I swear my thought was..this guy was a GOD in the skateworld and had to go do 4 years in prison..I thought that had to be the roughest sht ever..I'm free..no trouble with the law..If he can get clean and deal with prison and being away from skating I can do it to..I remember thinking what a weak man I am if I can't do this...again thinking about Holmes going thru what he did...it's crazy that a doc about your fallen hero can be more powerful than an intervention or all the friends I lost...If you read any of this Christian, thank you so much brother!!!!
Good story bro.
Fuck yeah. I think I'll try that taper method. I only do a little bit a day but any is too much. I'm ready to be done. Thanks and all the best to you.
WOW Christian so inspiring the lord does change life's God is real I'm so happy I watched this God bless Christian
Two total Legends in the room!!
I will watch this more than once. So damn good! Thanks for this. You guys killed it!!
Police academy was my reason to pick up a skateboard.... but christian was who I wanted to be. Love this interview so much.
Tony's a foot taller so he only went 8'6". 😂😂 Love All U Guys!! Thank U 4 Everything U do!!❤❤
That was great to see and hear. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, this is the Cobra Kai episode.
My 15th birthday was the 1st professional board I ever got. Had some hand me down old voards friends gave me, can't recall any of them? Oh yeah, the 1 I liked my friend Gave me was a rob roscop 4 I. Pretty sure? But that 1st board I still remember, it was Hosoi. I loved the board, it was electric green and that nose was totally different than amybother board. For what it's worth, I couldn't skate to save my life! Probably cause I was bastard at the time, butbi loved riding with my friends and being so envious I couldn't even fucking Ollie!. Still have a few friends that sorta ride in their mid and late 40s. These 2 guys shapes my love for skating and made me dream about tricks I'd never be able to do. Thanks guys, I appreciate everything you gave to the sport and taking it to the masses. You guys deserve everything you've accomplished.
Thank you so much. That was the best to see how happy you guys were to share your memories with us.
Really interesting chat, I enjoy hearing people’s life stories. I enjoyed this longer pod.
I so enjoyed that episode . Thank you !
This is awesome! Thank you so much!
Brilliant. Thankyou. Most I have smiled in a longtime. Nailed it.
This is SO GREAT. I have laughed so hard with you guys. 3 heroes lettin' it fly. You guys are the best.
Finally this ones gonna be awesome can’t wait to listen.
Continuing to inspire us still to this day. You guys are legends
So rad!! Stoked for this one
This was incredible. Thank you. Can't wait till you get a million views.
Thank you so much guys for sharing and reminding me of so much skateboard history!
Amazing to see Hosoi and the show!
Very inspirational!
There's nothing like Skateboarding!
I'm so hooked on this podcast!
Love this episode!!! Thanks guyz! My idols
Man the love you guys have for eachother at the end of this episode so awesome. You guys are the best.
I still remember all of this like it was this morning. It was an incredible place in time. And to watch the rival, I didn’t ever think it was arrival. I just went through the motions of what was being projected. But I think everyone knew, we were all going to get sick and tired of watching someone go back-and-forth on the ramp pulling great big areas with a lot of style. And in the end, the amount of tricks that Toni shared with us. That helped us progress in our skateboarding blew away the fact that Cristian could never ever give us any of that. Sadly, I think that pressure overwhelmed Christian to the point where he tried to disguise things with drugs.
In my mind, I would have loved for Toni and Christian to hang out at Tony’s and just passed tricks back-and-forth so they both could’ve progressed together. Because when the X game started and there was no Christian, skateboarding was missing something. And it would’ve changed the direction that skateboarding went. If there was only something besides this stupid rival. It can’t be fixed now. But when you hear this conversation, it’s clear. You can see it, you can feel it, and we can’t change it and that sucks. But thank God we all got to go through it. And think God in the end Christian chose God and fixed everything. Now entertainment value alone, how lucky we all are to hear this story. Helmets off to you too. Thank you. You are both #OfTheEpic
On a sidenote. I have the best Mike McGill station wagon disaster ever. And the best part is, he still ended up to be a hero for how cool he was by the way he handled that situation and by what he was doing to help his family. And that makes Mike McGill the most amazing person on planet earth. True story. Really happened. You might ask me what is the story? And I might tell you. Then again, you probably won’t even notice this comment. #NowThatsComedy.
This was such a joy to listen to! Two of the greatest vert skaters that ever lived on a podcast! Thanks for uploading!
Love all these SKATE LEGENDS! This is so cool to see! Love this podcast!
The best part of my Monday is tuning into this pod in the morning with my coffee and herb
Amazing podcast! Was hoping for that. Documentaries are great but nothing beats the actual people sitting down chatting about what was really going on.
Love You Guys!! ❤❤❤🎉 Thank You So Much For Existing! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌌🌌🌌🌌
CH , " no wonder you're so good! " ....yes J.E., you're as inspirational as the Papas Brothers in one body, Bro!
That was amazing!!!! Was a Hawk fan and a tall skinny kid and the technical moves were my inspiration. Stoked to hear Hosoi story
If someone would’ve told me in the 80’s
I was going to discover this when I was 51 in
2023…
Seeing living legends in the same room talking like this… I would’ve been like what?!?! 🙏🏽😎
Thank you so much for this episode!! When I’ve watched things about Christian, Tony is always part of the interview, conversation etc or vice Versa but never together in the same room! This was epic!! Thank you so much🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Tony & Christian are The Raddest !!
Another Great Show Guys !!
😎👍🌴☀️🛹🛹🛹🛹
Hosoi's style is still unmatched.
Christians laugh is infectious man! Love it
Super fun listen. Thanks for having this content out there gents.
Best podcast so far! I’m so grateful to have experienced being an 80s skater, and to see you all still shred is mind blowing
Superb! Thank you, guys!!
One of the best podcast I’ve ever watched. no question. Legendary show!
Skateboard heroes from my childhood. Such a historical full circle moment!! Thanks for being a huge inspiration to us all!
Incredible podcast. To hear those two legends reminisce about the old days was a real treat. Must listen for all skateboarders! Thank you!
I never took a side, I really appreciated both. I loved Hosoi’s style and power and I liked Hawk’s technical prowess. I just loved watching vert even though I only skated street. When launch ramps were all I skated then I was trying so hard to look like Hosoi doing a method! Loved that era
