    THANK YOU! I recently started renting from a house that provided this exact model lawn mower for me to use. It was caked in gunk and mud, and it barely ran. It would struggle to start and wouldn't stay running more than a couple minutes at best, until it got to the point it wouldn't start anymore. I suspected it was the carb is clogged and so I watched this video to see how hard it would be to clean it rather than take it to a shop or buy a new one. I followed your video precisely and now the lawn mower runs like brand new. You saved me a bunch of money and I am super thankful for this video.

    Getting ready to go do this. 4 years later and your video is still useful. Don't know much about small engines, but was tempted to spend $20 on a new carb because I figured it would be as much of a pain as it is on a car. It doesn't even LOOK as complicated lol. Thanks, man

    Dude!!....Glad I found this & glad the local shop said 4-5 weeks out. The only problem I had was the needle popped out when I removed the float and I incorrectly put it back in......then, when reviewing this video, I saw that it was suspended by sliding it in within the track. I took the carburetor back out, and placed it in the correct place.....gave it a nice spray , the jets were clear , replaced everything and it started right up! I'm certain you just saved me about 4 weeks and about $150.

    I've got this same model bought brand new back in mid 2016, it started great at first, then hard starts like crazy, took many pulls before i needed to spray some carb cleaner into the carb just to get it running, then it would quit after a few seconds a couple of times. I took the carb apart 2x already for a thorough cleaning, thoroughly cleaned the gas tank and spark plug as well, checked the flywheel key, it was spot on, but the hard starts persisted, but once i got it running, it runs like a gem, not a single issue, so that rulles out the ignition coil. Figure it might be a choke issue, it sticking open, thats from part of the choke lever hitting partially on the metal frame towards the front of the engine that keeps the lever from moving freely, just bend that piece of sheet metal out slightly away from the lever to fix that issue. Another issue is from the carb main jet being too small that gets clogged easily, again, causing the hard starts, the remedy, from what i've seen online in other problematic hard start videos, is to drill out the main jet out to .5mm/.020, thats next on my list to do, and it should always start on the first to second pull everytime like it should, so whats needed is called "Pin Vice Hand Drill", just make sure it holds 0mm to 3.0mm drill bits and you're golden.

    The bottom bowl on the carb has what looks like a place suitable to install some type of fuel filter trap to collect sediment or water that would otherwise settle in the carb bowl. It appears the opening is plugged with a plastic screw fitted with a hex head. Is there any sort of filter or sediment bowl available, where can I get one, and if so is it a simple install in place of the hex head screw?

    Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Managed to get a non-starting mower started last night but when we tried to restart it we found it was leaking. Took it off three more times. On the fourth try, it started and stayed running. Able to shut it off and restart a few minutes later. But it still has a (now slower) leak. This morning the mower wouldn’t start- what little gas we’d put in the tank last night was gone. Put in a little more gas and it started, but it definitely has a slow leak. Any suggestions as to what we’re not doing right? Thanks again.

    • @Happyface615
      @Happyface615 2 года назад +2

      Hey, I just did one of these today on this exact same model.. my suggestions for your leak is one of the following: 1) at 5:22 in the video you can see he has what he called the needle (the thing he dropped when popping out the float) when I was doing mine I nearly lost that and didn't know where it came from but it's a counterbalance for the float, so if you didn't put that part back on properly it could be flooding your carb bc the float is no engaging cut-off. 2) you did not properly tighten the bottom of the carb or damaged the gasket. 3) you did not properly reset fuel line back to carb and properly place the clips back to position.
      Best of luck 👍

    • @robertgreen9278
      @robertgreen9278 2 года назад

    Nice video except for one thing - I didn't see him spray anything? What did he spray? Where did he spray it? I assume that he used carbeurator cleaner, like gumout. Did he soak the carb in gumout? Did he have to brush anything?

    • @SmallEngineRepair
      @SmallEngineRepair  2 года назад +1

      Carb/choke cleaner is what I use. Brake cleaner will also work and is a little easier on rubber seals. I sprayed the inside of the entire carburetor, mainly focus on the jets but need to spray everything in case there is dirt inside. I usually don't have to brush anything, the carb cleaner will take care of most things. Every now and then I have to take a torch tip cleaning set and poke through a jet. Any more questions just ask. Thanks for watching.

      @@SmallEngineRepair I have a Lawnboy Gold mower. When I set mine next to my wives husky. I notice when set to the same cut height. The Lawnboy housing seem to sit lower to the ground. Also the Husqvarna has raised cut in the front housing between the front wheels. My thought is that this cut and higher sitting housing doesn't build as much vacuum from the ground to the housing which allows more dust to fly out the front and sides then out the shut. I notice the first time I mowed with it small rocks and debris flying in the grass in front of the mower. I have never used a mower in like 50 years, that did that. I think if they redesigned their housing lower, removed the gap in the front and maybe brought the blade high in the housing to create more upward vacuum. This would help greatly. 😉

    Upon reassembly the lawnmower started leaking fuel from the carb. I checked and it does not appear to be the linkage to the fuel line, but coming from inside the carb itself. I have tried disassembling and reassembling several times. Any idea what the cause might be?

      It can either be a gasket around the bowl or the float is sticking open and letting gas fill up the carburetor and overflow.

    Hi, you mentioned the use of a small flat screwdriver. We didn't get to see how small it is.

      @7:15 you can see the flat-head I used. It just needs to be sharp enough to get between the plastics. Not glasses screwdriver small but not big either.

    Have one question about this mower? How do you change the oil and do you have to tip it over?

    • @SmallEngineRepair
      @SmallEngineRepair  4 года назад

      I cant remember exactly on this model. A lot of the new ones you do have to tip over. Most of the older ones had a square recessed nut under the mower that a 3/8 ratchet would fit into.

      Thank you for the response. I was going to junk this mower but it is so clean, the blade is good and the motor still has compression. I have Augustin grass in my backyard so it remains low and I pull out the weeds. So it overwhelms my push reel mower. THANKS.
      Now this is a question from left field and I shouldn't ask it but do you know how to remove the rear seat out of a 2005 Sentra. I saw it done once but can't remember if the clips are on the base. Stupid question from a guy in Rocky Mount, NC. But love your RUclips channel!

      Thank you so much. You have a friend in Rocky Mount, My name is Bert Williams. This guy also got rid of a weed eater which he said runs great but needs a muffler but let me get this mower running first. then I'll tackle the trimmer. Thank you!

    I have this same mower and it was brand new last year. Now it doesn't start and all of this is necessary to get it started again each year? Kind of ridiculous I must say when I have an old B&G lawnmower that is about 10 years old and it starts up every year just fine even when it has sat during the winter months. Oh well.

    • @eastmanresearch3143
      @eastmanresearch3143 3 года назад

      It has to do with the jet size. The newer mowers are problematic because the jets are way undersized and the engines run lean, which will shorten the life. This is due to EPA and carb regulations. It's the same reason why I would rather repair an older unit now vs. buying new. I had an old 6.75 hp briggs on my high wheel trimmer that seized after 8 years of use. it had a real carb, not these plastic ones. The jet sizes are about 20% less and thus any clogging or congestion anywhere in the fuel system will give you problems. This is really a case of poor engineering on BS and also the regulatory insanity over co2.

    You don't need to pull the carb off to clean the float assembly

      Just pull the two bolts on the bottom of the float housing and off it comes
