I was trying to start my mower for 20 minutes exhausted and disappointed I googled why my husqvarna mower wouldn’t work. This was the first video. I did exactly what he said and BAM! First pull the mower started right up! Thank you so much!
This man deserves a standing ovation. Lots of people on RUclips will only share knowledge if you'll pay for it. I wanna say thank you because you've saved people a bunch of money 💰. But I've always wanted to learn small engine repair. Jets ski's, lawn mowers, zero turn mowers. It seems like it's always the most simplest thing that stops an engine from operating. You got my utmost respect bro. 😎👍🤙☝️
Can’t thank you enough. Went from a mower that wouldn’t start to fully functioning. Changed the spark plug after the carburetor clean because it was starting and dying. I’ve never done this before and you made it simple.
This helped a lot. I cleaned out the carburetor bowl and it had some gooey gel in the bottom. Also drained all the gas out of the tank and filled it with new gas, runs like a champ. It was a Kohler 6.5 hp motor on a log splitter… Thanks!
Exactly the same issue. My mower has been sitting for half year and I don't know why there is like jelly build up inside the carburator. Gave it a good clean and voila!
Thank you for an informative video. I'm ready to have my push mower running again, and after seeing this video, I am confident that it will be. Gather my supplies & go to it.
This video is very heloful. My lawn mover stopped working after 9 years use. I followed this video to clean the carburetor, which fixed my mover and saved me hunderds of bucks.
Just wanna throw a huge THANK YOU for this video. You easily took me step by step into getting my mower running like new again!!! 10 year old mower starts again like I just bought it! Thanks again!!!
Just bought our first house. Parents got us a lawn mower from an estate sale. I tried to start it up and it acted just like yours. I messed around with the carburetor and it came to life. It died again half way through mowing. I think this is what I need to do next. Pop it off and give it a good clean. Thanks for the great info!
Followed your advice and steps to cleaning the carb, mower was really hard to start. Now it starts first pull, all for the cost of half a can of cleaner and no waiting for it to be repaired at the local dealer. Thanks a lot.
Thank You SO Much! This helped me fix my mower and right before the holiday coming up, my grass was going on about 2 feet high with all the rain we had here, so yeah, thank you very much.
Wow! This is great! The instructions were precise and helpful! While I was dreading it before, I feel like I am now ready to attempt to fix my non-running lawnmower. Well done! Thanks for sharing this.
If it's a relatively new mower, this is probably pretty good advice. If it's an older mower, and your diaphragm is stiff, you just went through all of these steps for NUTHIN because it still won't start, because he didn't go deep enough into the carburetor.
Thanks, my mower wouldn’t start no matter how many times I pulled on it. Watched the video, followed along on my mower and it’s back up and running. Thanks again. I sent you a small token of appreciation.
Thank you Bother. You saved me a lot of time and money. I watched your video and then went step by step, pausing the video along the way. And after I finished my mower started on the first pull! Thank you Brother for sharing this valuable information. I appreciate you.
I don't normally comment but your video is very well done and fixed the problem with my neighbors mower. It also allowed me to find the cause of the problem. He has dirt in his gas can. Thanks so much for your time. I just subscribed and look forward to watching your other videos.
Very good quality video and instruction. One thing i normally do is remove the bowl gasket...carefully...before spraying brake cleaner everwhere. Or at the very least try to avoid hitting the rubber gasket with brake cleaner....as i have found that brake cleaner can distort/ruin rubber. Apparently carb cleaner doesnt hurt rubber as much. Well done!!
You’re the best! This was the best video and easiest to follow along side by side. Thank you. I can scratch this off the honey do list. I even fixed my neighbors mower and earned the money it took to pay for my parts lol. Simple and free. I appreciate this video a lot. Thanks
This was perfect-minus running to the store and gathering my tools, it took me about 20 minutes, and a mower that wouldn’t start ran like it was brand new. Great video, thanks!
So straightforward! What a great result too. Just a light pull, starts right up and runs with strength. It never started this smoothly or ran this well when we got it new from Sears!!!
I have a snapper mower and every fall after mowing is done I run the mower until I have 1/4 or less of gas in the tank. I put it away and in the spring I add fresh non ethanol gas and it starts up right away. Once in a while I add starter fluid so I don't have to yank the cord so often. I've used this method for years on my snapper, a Toro, a back pack blower, edger and generator. Running the engine until dry will let seals dry out and perhaps leak. 🤔 This has worked for me for 20 years and I've saved a lot in gas, and ware and tare on the engines, gasoline, and noise!
5 minutes in one of my springs would have catapulted across the floor finding it’s way to the eternal Bermuda Triangle wormhole and vanish , joining the other nuts, bolts , washers n sockets I’ve mysteriously lost over the years I couldn’t find after literally keeping eyes on it as it bounced across the concrete 🤷🏼♂️
So true! In my case hard starting has been result of ethanol blended gas gunking and corroding my carb, and usually takes a thorough clean before I can use my mower at the start of the season. A few years back I got sick and tired of the annual carb teardown, and since learning how to separate the ethanol from gasoline, been using only ethanol free gas in the mower. I do have to buy premium gas since removing ethanol drops the octane, but the mower and trimmers don't seem affect much with lower octane. Starts now every time first pull.
Good to hear, I still would recommend a stabilizer as "zero" ethanol gas can still have a very small % of it in there. Better safe than sorry if you will be not using it for a while.
Follow up on the “ Husqi “ with the Kohler motor , followed your advice and replaced the air filter , runs like a champ. Mower was given to me because “ it don’t run no more “ Amazing what people will toss instead of doing some inexpensive maintenance.
Thank you for making this video. You were extremely informative and and because of you I was able to get my Husqvarna mower started after a year and a half of sitting up. Very well done sir, thank you very much and God bless. 🤙🏽🇺🇸
You need to empty the fuel tank and rinse it with clean fuel and dump it. Check it's screen and blow back thru the fuel supply hose for the carb. If the fuel sat for years, you're going to find it has changed while it sat in the tank. It's best to run them out or drain them if they are stored and going to sit. Then clean and gap the plug to .030" Start with fresh fuel on assembly. Find out about your autochoke for it needing attention to operate freely. This one just had a little debris he saw while spraying the carb out. But there are other ways this job can turn. Everything went great here.
Thank you so much for this video I watched it twice to make sure I got it. I went outside and cleaned it up and that absolutely the issue it started up immediately after i cleaned it.
I have not been using my Pushmore for over a year. I’ve just been using the John Deere and my Weedwhacker. Thank you for making this video! I can now use it!! I barely had to pull the string and it started right up. Thank you thank you thank you and thank you again. You are my hero.
Eric, I had the same issue, I cleaned the carburetor and I also had an issue with my spark plug being fouled beyond wire brush and I replaced that, and gave it a new air filter and an oil change and its good to go to cut the areas where the riding mower can't.
Thanks for the informative video, Eric. It truly was a real help! And now after getting my mower going again (because of your help here), my wife has dubbed me "the lawn mower whisperer". Don't worry, I told her the credit really belonged to you! Anyway, thanks again!
This video is awesome. I was able to follow the video I fixed my Craftsman 6.75. It was not starting. After I cleaned the carburator it started on the second pull. Thanks so much!!!
This is my problem 95% of the time. Even with ethanol free fuel I still have to clean my carb a couple times a summer. Depending on your model/engine it might be really easy to access without taking any parts off. On my last 3 mowers and snowblower (Husqvarna, John Deere, Simplicity) the carb was right there on the side-- all I have to do is clamp the fuel line and and unscrew the carb bowl. Easy to do in less than 5 minutes. I also recommend adding a fuel line shut off for $1 and fuel filter.
Install a fuel tap between tank and carby and run the carby dry at the end of each mow session. Add fuel stabiliser to your stored fuel and you’ll shouldn’t need to remove the carby again.
Your video was very good as I’m going to try to get a Craftsman mower with a Honda engine back to life after sitting in a shed for 2 years. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for posting. I will give it a try. I assume this process can be used for my pressure washer too. Perfect instruction without any nonsense and to the point. You have earned another subscriber.
You are welcome! I hate videos that spend 5 minutes talking about the weather, their kids, or their dog. "Just show me how to fix this thing! " So I understand you 100%
So I knew I was about to do this very thing but haven’t worked on a lawnmower in a long time.. Thank you for posting this! I knew it was super simple anyhow but just seeing someone else knock out cleaning the carburetor before I went and took the same task on was nice!
Thanks for this informative video. I’d also suggest that you check your air filter first. My carburetor was clean but a dirty air filter was keeping my mower from starting.
Forgot to let my 2 cycle mower run out of gas in the fall and need to take the carb apart again. The gas usually evaporates and leaves an oily film. Easy enough fix.
my yardmax plate compactor doing the same thing, It was working like a champ, and I fooled around and let it set over the winter, because I wasnt working. now its not cranking.
Knowledge share is power. Thank you for sharing this very informative and effective way to resuscitate my 20 year old 3.75hp mower. I almost bought a battery powered unit but I thought I should check youtube first and see if there is a clear way to fix it. Your video did it. So well done and easy to follow. Many thanks.
I use a 50/50 mix of seafoam and Stabil 360 and a shot of seafoam in the plug hole. Pull the engine to compression stroke, to close the valves and good to store.
@@davidmoran4471 you don't need to mix 50/50. It says right on the can of seafoam that it is a fuel stabilizer. And I definitely wouldn't put it down the cylinder. It's not an oil. If anything you're washing the oil off of the cylinders which will cause corrosion in your cylinders and rings when sitting for long periods.
Through trial and error I suspected and usually did this, usually in place. But this makes it far more formalized and clears up many of the black art mysteries that build up as repair superstitions.
Nice video! I cleaned my carb last year which kept me going but I wasn't as in depth as you were here. So now that it's time again to think about mowing I'll be a bit more through this time around. The mower is old now but I'm sure I can get another season or two out of it! Take care, Rolland
I think the best thing is to just take your time- Maybe watch the video again- if you have not done this type of thing before, it can look overwhelming, but you can do it
95% of the time it's the main jet at the bottom of the float bowl if it's been sitting around a long time...Don't even need to remove the carb to get at it.
Sometimes you don't have enough time to do everything. Just at least try the jet you can get to instead of being lazy and not even atempting. Also if you are doing everything make sure you don't forget that float jet!
Will be doing this in the next day or so. Thanks for the clear and easy to follow video. My trusty 2008 Toro gave up late last year and after some basic steps (filter, spark, etc.) didn't work I figured I would be needing to deal with the carb next. Did the same on my edger a few years back but I am glad this carb has significantly fewer parts.
Agreed, it bothers me so much when people blame the unit when it breaks down. Simple maintenance will help prevent it. I maintain my equipment and still have the occasional problem, it is the nature of it.
Thanks for the video! Been trying everyone else’s suggestions (aka other videos) and have been avoiding cleaning the carburetor. Took about 1/2 hour and it started right up, and restarted on the 1st pull every time after that when it stopped because of the high grass (been about 3 weeks since it ran).
Did I miss something ? I don't remember you tightening the bolt on the automatic choke . The shiny one. Or did I blink at the wrong time ? Good video. I plan to try this tomorrow.
You take all the credit man!!! Let me thank you for taking your time to fix it and show to people how to do it.But I tell you, B & S should be making better quality engines and find an easier way of fixing it.This is 2023 and it seems to be an engine from the 80's...If it wasn't for people like you, owners would throw their lawnmowers like in the olympic games you know...I was just thinking about putting a fuel filter on the rubber tube, before fuel gets into carburator,in order to stop all the dirt flowing from the fuel to the carburator.Do you think it would be useful to do?
Maybe- One of the main reasons that the carbs get gunky is due to the fuel now. The government mandates all the extra crap in there to make it better (ethanol for one) and it goes bad quick. It gums up the tiny little ports and just make a mess. Fuel stabilizers help
Added tip; to clean the bowl nut orifice use a dental floss stick. They are made from plastic and will not damage the metal surface but are stiff enough to remove debris.
In the world is a good is pretty accurate. I'm in el salvador central America this video literally gave me a new mower thank you so much! Muchas gracias por el video..
I pulled a dozen times and ...no go. I emptied the fuel tank and removed the main jet, blew through it and it was clear. I replaced the bowl and the jet. Replaced the spark plug and put fresh hi test gas into the tank. 1 pull. She go. Thank you God Oh and don't forget sharpening the blade. I need to
For what a repair place will charge and the wait time to have it done, you can find the time. Places around here it is usually a 3-4 week turn around time. In that time your grass will be 2 feet tall
@@FarpointFarms ain’t it the truth. I’ve taken my mower two consecutive years to have it repaired. Each time for weeks out, had to borrow a neighbors mower. Same thing happened this year. Going to follow what you said, hopefully it’ll get running. I’ll let you know.

Eric shows how to clean the carb and fix the mower! FYI; exact same repair for snowblowers for us northerners. Thanks Eric!!!
Anytime-
You need to empty the fuel tank and rinse it with clean fuel and dump it. Check it's screen and blow back thru the fuel supply hose for the carb.
If the fuel sat for years, you're going to find it has changed while it sat in the tank.
It's best to run them out or drain them if they are stored and going to sit.
Then clean and gap the plug to .030"
Start with fresh fuel on assembly.

17:10 don't know about you, I always have the hugest grin on hearing the sweet sound of an engine running on the first pull. Great video.
oh yes, me too!
Lifesaver! It was super easy to follow along. Thanks for mentioning all the bolt sizes.
Glad it helped!
my yardmax plate compactor doing the same thing, It was working like a champ, and I fooled around and let it set over the winter, because I wasnt working. now its not cranking.
I hope that you are able to get it working again.
@@FarpointFarms yes me to. I need it for an upcoming project
It worked!! Started right up. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
THANK YOU! This is my mower and I'll be cleaning the carburetor tomorrow! I'm sure this is what the issue is! 😊
Good luck!!
You presented that so well. You're a natural at it, great video.
Thank you so much!
I'm so glad I could help you save some money!
I use seafoam in all my small engine machines. It eliminates a lot of carburetor cleaning. Not to mention seafoam is also a fuel stabilizer.
@DownintheHoller actually I use seafoam all the time. It keeps the fuel system clean.
No mysteries here
Outstanding, I currently am having the same problem, so I'll do as you did, thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
I hope it works out well for you.
Got the mower running today after no luck all summer, took literally only half this video to get me moving again. Thank you.
Glad I could help
Nice video! I cleaned my carb last year which kept me going but I wasn't as in depth as you were here. So now that it's time again to think about mowing I'll be a bit more through this time around. The mower is old now but I'm sure I can get another season or two out of it!
Take care,
Rolland
i bet with a good carb cleaning you can get more than a few years of use.
Thank you for the video just the problem I hope to fix with my sisters lawn mower. I’m a 64 year old woman and I can’t follow those instructions!
It is better o actually do it, not o do so is more of a laziness or neglect.
Sometimes you don't have enough time to do everything. Just at least try the jet you can get to instead of being lazy and not even atempting. Also if you are doing everything make sure you don't forget that float jet!
Good tip robbievans536!
I tried the jet…made no difference. New air filter, cleaned the jet, cleaned the gas tank, put in clean gas. Still won’t start.
Spark plug?
Will be doing this in the next day or so. Thanks for the clear and easy to follow video. My trusty 2008 Toro gave up late last year and after some basic steps (filter, spark, etc.) didn't work I figured I would be needing to deal with the carb next. Did the same on my edger a few years back but I am glad this carb has significantly fewer parts.
I hope you are able to get yours started. Just take your time, and you will do just fine
Dont throw your mowers away if they dont work. Its cheaper to fix them than it is to buy another one.
Agreed, it bothers me so much when people blame the unit when it breaks down. Simple maintenance will help prevent it. I maintain my equipment and still have the occasional problem, it is the nature of it.
I knew I could trust a guy from the mountains on NC
There are some good people up here,
Thanks for the video! Been trying everyone else’s suggestions (aka other videos) and have been avoiding cleaning the carburetor. Took about 1/2 hour and it started right up, and restarted on the 1st pull every time after that when it stopped because of the high grass (been about 3 weeks since it ran).
thanks
Nothing like a Sunday morning with the Farm Family 💪🏼🇺🇸. Good morning everyone
Mr. Farpoint loves to work on stuff….with proper tools ! I on the other hand need to improvise the entire process, with his great pointers ! Thanks
improvising is not a bad thing, it just show how resourceful you are
Nice video, watching you work, I had no doubt it would start right up.
Learned a new trick, will use brake cleaner to clean my carbs now. Nice work
brake cleaner also makes the best wasp spray- they are dead before they hit the ground- Wife is allergic so that is our go to.
@@FarpointFarms Thanks for the tip.
Did I miss something ? I don't remember you tightening the bolt on the automatic choke . The shiny one. Or did I blink at the wrong time ? Good video. I plan to try this tomorrow.
He did homie. 😎👍🤙☝️
Dude you rock saved me a lawn mower. Thanks if I ever see ya beers on me. Cheers.
Thanks for the offer- I am glad I could help you
“There ain’t no gas in it!” 🤣
"See there Scooter? Thinks of the simplest thing first."
@@barneymm2204 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 love that movie!
I would have put a fuel shutoff valve and a filter inline with the fuel line if there is space to do so. Thanks for posting.
I thought about that after the fact. I did not want to go back and add it in
What a fabulous video! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for taking the time to make this video. Very well done!
Glad it was helpful!
@@FarpointFarms thanks again x your advice man.Your vid really helped me.I'm writing you from Argentina.
if mine don't start i scrap it and then buy some beers 🍺🍺🍺🍺.... just kidding 😂
If you scrap it, you can't afford to buy beer and a new mower. This way you can do both
@@FarpointFarms I will get $15 dollars for it for scrap... then I will find a nother free mower on garage day WIN WIN 😁
Hey, I did that beer thing and my attitude REALLY improved.
Added tip; to clean the bowl nut orifice use a dental floss stick. They are made from plastic and will not damage the metal surface but are stiff enough to remove debris.
That is a good tip- thanks for sharing
Thanks for this video! Worked to get our lawnmower going again after not using it for over a year.
Great to hear!
In the world is a good is pretty accurate. I'm in el salvador central America this video literally gave me a new mower thank you so much!
Muchas gracias por el video..
Glad I could help- thank you for the kind words
I pulled a dozen times and ...no go. I emptied the fuel tank and removed the main jet, blew through it and it was clear. I replaced the bowl and the jet. Replaced the spark plug and put fresh hi test gas into the tank.
1 pull. She go. Thank you God
Oh and don't forget sharpening the blade. I need to
Glad to hear it worked!
@@FarpointFarms and it's a 20 year old front drive Toro22 mulcher
Drain the fuel each fall, replace spark plug when is hard to start. It works for me.
That helps, but sometimes it will still get gummed up with gunk and varnish.
Just followed your video and fixed my mower. Many thanks!!
Glad I could help!
This is what I figured I was gonna have to do. Easy enough but still a pain in the butt. Just finding the time even if it only takes 20 minutes.
Worked like charm! Thanks for making this video. It was really easy to follow along and the only thing I didn’t have on hand was the carb cleaner. Had to make a run to the store to get it but it was well worth the trip.
Glad it helped!
I subscribed. May be the tutorial I've seen especially on this type of repair. Keep it up the world needs guys like you. Thanks, Eddy
May be the " best" tutorial I've seen on any repair. Thanks again
Thanks for the kind words! The cost of these mowers has gone up a lot since I made this video. I really hope it saves people a lot of money as the years go on.
I have three mowers in the garage right now, bout to try this on 2 of them, the other has oil on the plug, figured the issues might be a little worse on that one! I've done a cleaning before that didn't work (on my rider that the neighbors put to the road), bought a new carb for $25 or so, been cutting with it for 5 years! Thanks for a good video, got a subscribe from me!
Thanks for the sub, you will have to let me know if they worked out for you
