- If your mower "runs and dies" on a shot of starting fluid, then a carburetor jet cleaning or replacement is all you need. I'll show you how to do that in 10 minutes! This procedure is for any brand of mower that has these Briggs & Stratton engines with the plastic carburetor....Craftsman, MTD, Yard Machines, etc.

Good video. Right to the source. Teaches people to clean all passages carburetor related. Stop tossing out good mowers people. Pick up a screwdriver and getterrr donnneeee!👍
Thanks to this video I got my Craftsman mower working again. Just replaced the jet with a new one. Thank you!
Nice work!
Starting fluid did the trick; started first time. Thank you.
❤❤ thank you so much. I panicked from my fathers mower breaking. And I was the last one who used it so he was going to get mad at me. All I know is that it started then stopped. I was procrastinating the fix after watching this vid weeks ago due to I didn’t trust myself. Not today. I took it apart and cleaned the jet out with water, soap and a needle and it works! Thank you so much for your vid. Other vids are not as detailed as yours. Will subscribe and like.
Great job fixing it yourself!
Thank you Buck, this was so helpful. "I just love the help I get on RUclips from people like you...
My name is Buck and I'm here to ****. ...fix ur mower😂
Thank you so much...I was just spraying starter fluid in there without using the screw driver...man...started to buy a new mower!!
Excellent video, I just had water in my gas via a broken gas cap and just needed a good step by step to take the carb apart. Very helpful thank you
Great job!
OMG Thank you Thank you. Just went to Amazon and found the jet part and ordered...
I can not say thank you enough! I figured why not it won’t start anyways I can’t hurt it, before I go buy a new $500 lawnmower. Ordered the jet followed your video and popped the new one in. Fired up in one pull and is running great now.
Again thank you for saving me the $490 for a $10 fuel jet.
Great job doing it yourself! And thank you for the fabulous note. Made my day!!!!
Thank you for the video. I watched your video, bought the replacement jet pack and fixed my mower!
Thanks for the great note, and congrats on fixing it yourself!
Couple tips
Probably should have drained the gas tank. That carburetor got crapped up somehow - bad, old, stale gas is the culprit. Drain and refill with fresh gas
The screws inside the air cleaner are , 8mm and 7mm

Awesome I'm going to try this now! A new filter and plug didn't work so this is next. Yes finding my tools takes more than 10 mins lmao. No battery powered here, love my craftsman. Thanks for the video.
...great DIY video Buck...thanks for posting... 🙂
Thank you so much!
Thank you! I fixed our mower. Started on the first pull.
That's a great feeling....first pull start! Good job!
Great video! Watched this, went out and cleaned my carb and jets, and mowed. Didn’t need to replace jets but may still buy some for future cause super easy to just swap out. 100% helped me out and saved me some money. Thank you!
Great job doing it yourself!
Thanks. I tried the starter fluid and it worked ❤
Thank you for the video. Fixed my lawnmower in 10 minutes
Great job doing it yourself!
Worked like a charm. Thank you!!!
Thank you for posting this video solved my issue. Started on first pull - Craftlsman M230. Have a great day.
Great job doing it yourself!
Well this took 2 mins for my mower to start once I sprayed the starter fluid! Thank you!!!
Thank you! My lawn mower works great now!
I saw it after I sent you the message 🤦♂️Thank you. Amazing video, by the way
Thanks, and good luck with the repair!
Thank you!!! I fixed my lawn mower in less than 5 mins😊
Awesome! Great job!
Thank you😊😊 it worked😊
Good job, thank you!
Thx for the vid very helpful. its fixed and working.
Great job!
Good job, good video.
This video got me to remove carb, (watch for O-ring) pull jet cartridge and get my neighbor's mower running again. Thanks for the video. My carb had an O-ring that fit inside carb where it pulls off from motor. Watch for that as mine fell out when removing and landed on frame. After getting it re-assembled I noticed an O-ring...Extra part...UGGGGG and had to figure out where it went.
Great show it takes me half a day to get tools ready 😅
Awesome!!!
Thank You
Thank you sir.
Thank you
Thanks for that. I have the same mower. It starts first pull when cold, but after shutting off to empty bag, no amount of pulling will start it. It has to cool off.. Werd.. I tried cleaning the carb, no omprovement. So, I'm ordering a set of jets.
Anotherr weird thing is the manual says oil does not need to be changed.. and there really is no place to drain it.
I should not have to do this I just bought it yesterday and it literaly wont start.
Used mine twice and won't start
litterly
Yep these are junk after very little use
Don't make em like they use 2
Same it’s a pos
Does this new jet make the engine faster? I just swapped out this part that you recommended and now I have the trap door blowing crap everywhere. It’s not sealing. Mower sounds louder..
Thanks for sharing that was easy! Now when I put everything back together my pull cord was completely loose 😩
Murphy's law....fix one thing and break another thing in the process!
I'll keep fixing myself a Self patel mower I think my Velves Need to be reset I have a snapper I'm gonna look through your videos and see if you have a video on that Thank you for the video
Great video except for the lighting you need a headlight get you some rechargeable batteries though first video I have seen on a plastic carburetor
is this the same Briggs engine that's on the Craftsman M125 lawn mower?
Thx. Not a direct fix, as my engine's carburator is all metal (float, float bowl). Bought it in 2000 and still going strong. Anyway the single nut holding the bowl had small holes which I cleaned and blew into and I actually noticed the blockage free up. Back and running. Thx again.
Great job!
Hi there, can I use W-40 ?
How about the olde ones without the plastic carb?
Def some good info...... But im sure it took more than 10min!! lol Great video tho.. Thanks
It's worth a shot. You did a phenomenal job teaching and showing, I'm goin' in! Thank you 😊
Can you tell me what type of oil to use in this machine, please 😊
You got this!
A straight 30 weight motor oil will be fine. Could also use 10W-30, available at Walmart or any auto parts store. Be careful not to overfill it!
@@Buckwsr I'm pretty excited, it fired 3 times. So the part you replaced in this video is enroute 🙌🏽🤩 The smoke that came out was white, I'm hoping that's a good thing. 🤞
@@sologmomma2494 Awesome! Good luck, and let me know how it works out!
Where did you buy it?
Where I can order the supply part?
They also get wayer in tank, use gas treatment, works great! Water keeps getting in
I have the same motor I bought yesterday from some young kid. The issue I have with this same motor is that it won’t start. And I think the pool string is somewhat jammed. Any tips
Use some Seafoam regularly say every 15 running hourse aprox., especially near fall and storage time. Then buy a$2 shut off valve installed in the rubber gas line as a shut off, or completely empty the tank and carb bowl by running it dry. Store.
What part # is the jet??
I don't have starter fluid spray. Can I use carb cleaner?
Some carb cleaner is flammable, some is not. The stuff from walmart is not, so that will not work. The name brand stuff, like Gum-out, is flammable and will work instead of starting fluid. You could also just shoot a little gasoline into the throat of the carburetor. Good luck.
👏👏👏
Ni kidding. I just cleaned the jet n right in. Wow
Okay, I took my plastic carb on my Briggs 500e off and took it all apart and cleaned it thoroughly. Put it back; doesn't want to start and leaks gas til tank is empty through the carb throat. I made sure all gaskets and screws were in good shape and tight. Only thing I can think of id maybe the O ring and plastic retainer at the back of the carb is defective and leaking there. Your thoughts please? thanks
Leaking gas till the tank is empty means your needle/seat/float in the carburetor is not working properly. The easiest thing to do is just get a $20 replacement carburetor from amazon or ebay. Make sure all that gas has not flowed into the engine and filled up the crankcase with gas. In other words, check the oil level and make sure it's not overfilled. If it has, you'll need to drain that all out and add new clean oil. Good luck.
@@Buckwsr Actually I tested the float/needle when I had the carb off the machine and it seemed to function well. I did buy an aftermarket carb and will install that and see what happens. Thanks for your in put; I do enjoy your videos. Keep them coming!!
@@lawrencecarroll2031I've had situations before where the smallest speck of dirt on the needle or the seat will cause it to leak and overflow...the needle was not seating fully into the seat because of the speck of dirt and it was slowly but surely flooding....
@@macknumber9 Thanks for your input. Believe it or not, it was actually the brake cable causing it to internittently start or not. I had freed it up after being frozen with rust. However it would pull the cable back far enough every time. With a new (used) cable, it started and ran fine.
@@lawrencecarroll2031 you mentioned that it was flooding
Where can buy the jets online? Do you mind providing me with a link please
The link is in the video description. Thanks, and good luck!
Shine a light on the area that you're filming so we can see what's going on
Í didn't have good power drill and my mower doesn't have the pump but similar there
It’s because he’s explaining how to do it
Hey, thanks for the vid! How good are those plastic carbs compared to the standard, metal ones? Looks fairly easy to clean. What brands of lawnmowers do you usually see them on. 👍👍
These Briggs & Stratton engines with the plastic carburetor are all over the place....mowers, power washers, brush mowers....literally everywhere.
Where do you order the jet?
Amazon. See link in video description.
It's on Amazon and in my cart as of finishing this video. I'm going to try the spray first and hopefully not have to order the jet, but I'm ready for it if need be. 😅
I think my engine might be locked up trying to manually turn the blades underneath
Can someone explain the reasoning behind this?
I got the m320 last summer and its been kept indoors all autumn and winter and it already wont start
it won't start cleani The carb replaced the filter and spark plug and the gas still won't start. what else can I this is a JONH DEER JS63H WALKING MOWER, WHAT ALSE CAN'T I TRY? Buck
Try this link. In this video I work on a John Deere JS63, like you have...ruclips.net/video/afjn9HKLiZQ/видео.html
I replaced the carburetor with a new one and the air filter, it started and ran for about 2 minutes and is back to square one again, won’t start. The only thing not changed is the spark plug so I’m stomped! It’s a Craftsman self-propelled. Loved the video BTW!😃
Well, I mean, it could be the spark plug....
I just did this to my troy bilt TB110 and it still won't start
Seems like this took more than 10 minutes?
😂😂
Think I watched this video about 12 months ago.
What if the mower is locked up and won't even turn
Good sir, I can't get the top hood off. You said there's a clip and I can't find it.
Had to fight it and finally got it. I didn't want to break it 😅
Great. I hope you can get your mower back up and running!
@@Buckwsrguess what I just did!!!! 🎉 It's fixed, and I can't thank you enough for making this post 😊
@@sologmomma2494 Great job!
I can't stand these plastic carburetor. Metal is a much better option. Keep up the good work. 😊👍🏿 #stihlpower #stihlisyourdaddy #stihlrunstheyard
I cleaned the filter. Bought a new spark plug. Clean the main jet. And still nothing. Any more ideas???? Anyone???? And to make it worse I have two non working lawn mowers.
So naturally i tried this and failed lol. But as i popped the carburetor out, two pieces came loose: a thin metal rod (which i am assuming is the piece to connect the main jet line to the outer shielding... but then another piece; a small nail like component. The top was the same white plastic as the main jet line and then bottom had a white point tip, the same black as the cover. I accidentally forgot to put that piece in originally, but tue mower started fine, but gas leaked out the carburetor. When i attempted to insert it underneath that outer shield, the mower wouldnt start, but gas wouldnt leak. Anybody encounter this?
UPDATE:
float needle valve that allows the flow of gas into the carb. Very important and goes inside the float and placed carefully into the hole underneath the float. Mower works like a champ now.....until the blade fell off and now I need to buy a 16mm bolt replacement 😂
Good job getting it back up and running!
@@Buckwsr thank you this video helped a lot!
Those plastic ones are easy dude
"Crapsman"
I use Ethanol free gas
I use fresh gas with stabilizer.
I never leave gas in the mower after each season.
I change the air filter as needed
I change the spark plug as needed I replace the carburetor every year.
Every year the damn mower won't start.
Sick of replacing the carburetor every damn year!
Why should I have to replace my Carburetor every freakin' year?!
You put fresh gas in the gas tank, but the carburetor bowl still has last years old gas in it.
Although even if I or you were to make the repairs you were showing with the carb and all... Wwaaayyyy past ten mins bruh..... and no I didn't for some reason, took it to the junkyard... I get it I say the same shit about cars " bro I can do that in ten!!" I've done them for so long... although even the exaggeration of the time I use as well, be well my friend
That didn’t seem like 10 minutes… unless you have spare freaken CARBURETOR handy
Step 1) wear gloves
Wwwaaaayyyyyyyyy past the ten minute mark bruh!!!
It's a 10-,minute fix. I can do it in my sleep. Obviously, explaining and demonstrating the process on video takes a little longer. More importantly, did you get your mower back up and running?
These mowers are garbage I have one also. I wish I never gave away my 20 year old one
Just skip the craftsman lawnmower all together. They will wonder why no
one is buying tis crapy brand sooner or later?
These lawnmowers a trash
