Thanks for watching. This mower was put up for the winter and now it won't stay running. If you haven't figured out that its more than likely the carb but the reason is the gas. - Авто/Мото
Thanks so much for this video. Our mower of 5 years and never missed a beat refused to start this morning. Same symptoms as this video and same engine. I cleaned the filter and the spark plug to no avail. I rang our friendly mower / small engine repair centre who told me that they are booked out for six weeks but he will give me $50 trade in on my mower for a new mower ..... I declined and came here. Two hours later the mower is running again. Thanks again.
nice work, and thank you for watching
My mower died. I've never took a carburetor apart in my life. Followed your guide, cleaned it out, and the mower fired back up. Thanks!
no problem and great work!
I have to agree with others
I watched this video once and went out and fixed my mower without having to go back and review the video.
This is one of the most perfect videos on RUclips.
thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it
I have used ethanol gas in all my mowers, my weed eater and my pressure washer. When I put them up for the winter, I let them run until they run completely dry and have never had a problem starting them in the spring.
that's the best way to do it.
Thanks for the help my lawnmower is alive again
Thanks for this video! My mower had stopped working so i bought another one and eventually that one stopped working as well, and decided instead of buying ANOTHER mower Lets learn how to fix it! and now they are all working great!
nice work STREETRACER4U and thanks for the comment.
8bd8dnvlllllkl I'll 8vid up
Does this apply to a riding mower as well?
I was told humidy can effect mower, but I live where there is humidity. If a mower can't take humidity, I can't move to a dry area. I'm so sick of mowing 2/3 of my tiny back yard and it dies every time. I can never finish mowing it. I'm at the point I want to rip up the grass. I'm so over it
@@2Ryledhonestly your best bet could be an electric mower due to your humidity issue
I bought a used mower with this exact engine last year. Fired right up when I went to buy it. Brought it home and a week or two later it wouldn't start. I found this video and although I am not mechanically inclined, I've never taken any part of a lawn mower apart and was scared shitless, I followed your video step by step and low and behold it fired right up! Thanks! I even ran it dry this past November and it's been in the garage all winter. Put gas in it and again it won't start. Fortunately, I saved this video and I'm going to do this again and hopefully it takes care of the problem. Great video and I especially love the way you describe what you're doing and take your time showing all the steps.
thank you and good luck with it!
Out of all the videos I watched, this was the best one. After I turned the video off I didn't have to come back because I knew what to do. And now my lawnmower works again. Thank you so much for an EXCELLENT JOB explaining how to do this. 👍🏾👍🏾 Two Thumbs Up
Glad you enjoyed it Erin Morales!
Excellent video. I fixed my mother’s mower following the steps shown in the video. The mower would run on the gas provided through the primer and would then just die. After cleaning out the carburetor, the mower now continues to run once started. Thanks!
no problem Paul Graham
The
How to idle up this B&S engine?
I need to know about one of the new snapper that has a funny-looking carburetion or fuel injection whatever it is
I did what you showed step by step (except i did not have a gas hose clamp and made a mess) and mower started on third pull and now runs real well. Thank You
no problem
This was very helpful today. Got my B&S running well after a carb clean. Use only marine gas on all my mowers, trimmers, etc !
Glad it helped
Thanks mate! This video basically helped me fix my Victa Ultra light lawn mower that a friend gave to me. It hadn't been turned on for 2 years and I spend all day trying to start it. It was starting then stalling. Ended up need to put a small wire and clean the carburettor and that actually fixed it. Thanks so much!
Glad it helped
nice job.
all done with no arrogant attitude ...like the 90+ percent of instructional videos
thank you for your time
I watched 3 other videos and I’m glad I watched yours. The trick was the small wire into the main jet! It works perfectly now. Thank you!
no problem and thank you Hector Ramos.
one of the best informative videos i’ve seen. Bought a new mower last year, worked great. left it outside under a shed for the winter (learned lesson) and when i went to use it this year it’d crank first pull, but die a second later. i noticed i could keep it running if i continually pressed the prime bulb. I now know where it’s clogged and feel confident i’ll be mowing again tomorrow. thank you!
thank you Timothy Dickson.
You can clean the jet by contantly pushing the choke until the gunk is forced out of the jet
Thank you from Devon in the UK. Just sorted my sister's lawn mower after a couple of years of standing. Exactly the same block. My nephew isn't so happy as he's now mowing the lawn.
you're welcome Sue Cade and thank you for your time.
Thank you very much. This was the exact engine model I was needing help with and the exact information i needed to repair my mower. Started right up and finished the lawn.
You are welcome!
Excellent narration. You asked what gas and circumstances people would use in their small engines. I have always used Ethanol gas in them with no fuel system troubles. At the end of mowing season I empty gas from the tanks then run them until they die. I have had no trouble with this method. As an extra precaution I change engine oil while the machine is still hot. I don't want the old oil containing contaminates and gasses to sit in there all winter.
excellent method
Thank you so much!!!!! I had pulled off the carb but didn’t know about the valves sure enough one was clogged thanks works great now.
Bought a yard works/ Biggs Stratton mower last year not even one year old😢
You're welcome!
Once accidentally used ethanol, I thought I would seize the engine; luckily it didn't. Suffice to say I always use ethanol free petrol / gas. Thanks for the top shelf video. Cheers.
thank you Anthony Solinas.
@@HomeGaragechannel I have 2 cracks in my air snorkel leading from the ignition. I'm hoping simple electrical 'gaffer' tape will do the job, avoid going to the repairer.
good luck to you. Hopefully it works.
I was given a mower that didn't run, with the same problem this had. I believe the person who gave it to me used ethanol gas and that was why it never ran well even when new. Runs great now with non-ethanol fuel. This is an outstanding video because it was the identical application to what was needed.
thank you Ka3Ty for the comment, I appreciate it.
Thanks for the help I was able to fix my lawn mower because of you. Your knowledge is now my knowledge and so onward
nice work, and you should be thanking yourself, you did all the hard work!
Never thought I’d do something like this but the video was very straightforward, easy to understand and you got my mower working again which saved me money and brought me a very accomplished feeling! Thanks!!
Glad it helped
Very clear concise straight to it style was extremely helpful and delightful. Fixed my problem when other videos fell short. Keep them coming.
good work and thank you
Just fixed my lawnmower yesterday following your steps. Thank you 🙏
Glad it helped
Just fixed my mower thanks to this video. Thank you
Glad I could help
I got my yard cut, but, had a little problem, I noticed, I had to pump prime Buble, every time I restart, or it run real slow then die, checked gas cap, and reprimed it, then motter runs fine, I did most of all this maintenance, was easy to work on, carb. came off real easy. So I cleaned it all up, put it back together, and learned a lot more on the motor, I was fixing to dump a bran new mower lol, but now I might put a harber freight engine on it, cause it be a stronger mower, idk yet, it cut the yard, and did great, thanks for video, this grass catcher on the murry, does a good job, better than my husky Varna lol, grass comes out the sides, and top,but not on the murry. Shalom,
Thank you for the comment. Yes I would suggest the harbor freight replacement engine as they are very good engines.
Excellent video. Not only does my mower now start and run, it now runs smoothly without "hunting". Cheers
thank you Mick from Oxford and you did an excellent job fixing it.
Tip: I found that a dental pik (one with bristles) works great for cleaning out the jets. The wire is just tiny enough to fit in the jets and the bristles clean them out good.
I bought a pack of 10 at Dollar Tree for $1.25, and they come in handy for small jobs!
Great tip!
Thank you sooo much! I just just finished mine. Your video save me 100 bucks! Thank you
Glad I could help!
Thanks, for that video look at your video yesterday, perform the task today and it runs like a champ.👍
Great to hear!
I use high test in all my motorized products after problems with a whipper snipper one spring and the technician explained the ethanol troubles with storage.....never an issue since.
best advice ever
Had to shuffle through way to many videos to find this one. Followed your steps and now my mower runs great :)
Glad it helped!
Outstanding instructional video! I followed the video step by step and my mower was running again in 45mins! Thank you!! 👍
Glad it helped!

Thanks alot! A neighbor gave me a "broken" lawn mower. I've sat on fixing it for about a year now and made due with an electric . Following your simple steps has the lawn mower running for more than a minute at a time lol. Now I see it's blowing a mild amount of white smoke I'll troubleshoot that using your videos after this thunderstorm passes😅
have you check the oil level? remember to wipe the dipstick clean first before sticking it back in for the reading. It might be overfilled
Home Garage It was overfilled. I drained it, put a new filter on and runs like new. Thanks!
thank you so much, I just got a free mower that didn't run, the exact same B&S engine with the plastic carb, followed your excellent instruction, that baby is purring like a kitten!
Glad it helped and you did a great job getting it working again.
Always thoroughly enjoy your videos, their always so well done. You are most definitely a natural with the video camera, sound' and presentation. I have a small Murray myself with the same issue that I need to fix. This will help me get it done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
thank you very much for the compliment and good luck
Very good education, good pictures and the right pace for us non-americans
Thank you Per Brunkwall.
Thank you for posting! Last yr I had the same thing and paid to get fixed. This time around I was able to resolve thanks to you!
You're welcome!
Excellent video. Saved me from needless buying a new mower.
Glad I could help
Ethanol free gas and full tank of fuel with stabilizer for storage. Has worked for me for many years with no problems. Tried your way once, and left me rebuilding the carb in spring due to condensation.
Sorry it didn't work out
@@HomeGaragechannel hey no biggie, that's why there are different ways of doing things. What works for one may not work for another. I still like watching your videos!
@@dm7097 I appreciate it thanks a lot.
Thanks for the tutorial video. That's exactly what my mower is doing now. I'll clean the carb tomorrow. Thanks.
no problem.
Exactly what I needed to fix my mower this weekend. I actually saw what you mean as many holes were plugged up with crud in my carborater. Works 100%.
excellent work. Thank you TodahBird
I picked up a mower yesterday with the same story… ran last year, put up for the winter and then wouldn’t stay cranked.
There are some slight variations that exist with this type of carburetor. Mine had two brass jets on the bottom; the one with the o-ring around it was the culprit and I thought I would never get it cleared. Even my 26 AWG wire wouldn’t go through the jet. I finally blew it out with my air hose (air compressor was NOT fully charged).
Also, where your example had white ring and the black O-ring, ours has only a red O-ring. I called a local shop looking for the white ring and he said if mine had the red O-ring, that was all that was required.
I got all the ethanol fuel out of the tank and replaced it with ethanol-free. I reassembled it all and primed it 10 pumps. The mower fired right up and mowed my front lawn.
very nice work! your persistence payed off.
Thanks , nicely done . Will try this. I too saw a tiny brown (maybe) spec fall out when the jet was cleared. I use straight ethanol free gas. Heard the ethanol shellacs up . I used to use stabilizer with the ethanol gas for chain saws and mowers but can now get ethanol free locally .. Hoping i can fix my mower, nearly new. Great to hear the cardinal singing in the background!
thank you Wendy Dwyer and good luck
Very helpful video. Just got my lawnmower running. Thanks
no problem and thank you Shane Jones
Awesome clear concise details, fixed my mower first go - you’re a legend👍

Thanks for posting this. It’s really well filmed and explained. I found this video very helpful. Thanks again *(from the UK!)

i know it's quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Joshua Zachary flixportal :D
@Kamden Abel Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it!!
@Joshua Zachary you are welcome =)
I use the local ethanol regular gasoline (Shell) and as long as I run my similar mower every 2 weeks or so, no problem. Mid-Atlantic region. Maybe your locale has a lot higher humidity than mine.
BTW, I found it a good idea to lube the rubber “O” rings on that white plastic jet holder with a thin smear of vaseline and also the cup that it slides into. One time I had the “O” rings roll up and then lift the jet holder out of its cup while or after I assembled it. Engine ran very rich because gasoline was bypassing the jet holder. Fixed it with the vaseline. Thanks for your clear video.
thanks , and nice advice, I'll have to use it too, thank you Dog Man.
What is the jet holder?
Had the EXACT same problem with my mower (same engine)...yep, took the carb off and cleared the jets!! Bingo!
Great vid and, thanks!
no problem and thank you too
Put stable in it near end of season also did same with motorcycle never any issues as the stable also goes through carb. I have also at times sprayed carb and choke cleaner into tank during use. You can also switch to normal gas as well toward end of season. My stuff sat 4 to 6 months during winter. I always had battery issues so I added plugs and got trickle chargers
very thorough, Nice work
You have an excellent narration talent. Great video!
Thank you kindly!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you for the comment!
Thank you for the video. It helped me fix the issue with my mower. The center tube on the main jet was slightly plugged just after sitting a few months.
Glad it helped
Thanks for posting. Everything works great now.
Thanks and no problem
Great video! Saves money and hassle of finding a shop for repairs. Getting my hands dirty. :) Thank you.
Glad to help
Great video, thank you. Just fixed mine in no time.
no problem and you did a great job fixing it.
Thank you! The title described my situation, I followed your instructions and it worked!!!
Glad it helped!
Very good demonstration. Thanks for the video. God bless you
Thank you too
Did anyone realize that he clamped the gasoline hose going from the gas tank to the carburetor and removed the wrong end of the hose and whatever little gasoline was there leaked out? :) After clamping the hose you release the hose at the carburetor end and not the gas tank end. No worries. Good job on the video!
It was to keep the gas in the carb so we can examine it for water, which there was some in it.
Very good video!!! Diy home owners can follow along very easily!👌👍👍👍
Thanks a lot 😊
Narratiion was on point. Great info and visualization. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this video! I have a Murray purchased new last year (looks very similar except there is no prime) and it ran well for a while today, the first time firing it up this year. I got 2 tanks through it fine. Then all of a sudden it started acting funny, getting weaker, then would only start and run for a second before cutting out. It still had 1/4 tank or so... but I refilled the tank and it started running again for a couple of minutes, then started cutting out and again will only run for a second... I used old gas leftover from last year... so likely it's water bubble. We will see tomorrow!
no problem and good luck with it
Thank you! It was a water bubble. Once i drained the carburetor bowl and put fresh fuel in it, she ran like a dream
Followed it to a tee. Runs great. BIG Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you, worked as you described.Easy to follow.
Glad it helped
Thank you for the video, I was able to fix my 7 year old mower within an hour with this.
Excellent and you did a great job, fixing too. thank you Gary E.
Great video that's that's teaching so many push mowers are thrown away every summer because of little things water in the gas
Great point!
Thanks you really helped me. It's working now. Took a good number of pulls(25) after draining the old gas and replacing the spark plug
glad it worked out in the end
This video did it for me. Lawn mower wouldn’t turn on at all at first. I would add starter fluid to carb and start and die right away. Same little hole was plugged for me. Used a pick and cleared it. Started right up after.
I'm glad it worked for you.
Great video, saved my bacon when I had extra parts falling out on me.
thank you Adam Acker
I always winterize my mower. One spring it would run for a bit, then stop. Found out that some grass bits, that had gotten into the tank, moved into the carb float bowl. Too big to go through the jet but large enough to block it. Drained the bowl, cleaned it and it fired right up.
hey nice work
Great video I was able to fix my mower myself proud of myself your the man......
Glad I could help
This video was very helpful to me really do appreciate your video. Thanks
no problem and thank you
Thanks, good look at the back of the carb and how rubber and plastic o rings go in the back of carb to intake.
thank you Carl Hardy
100% fixed my Briggs 500E engine! Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Great video. Not cleaning the areas around the carb that you are working on is not good. I've seen this on a few of your videos. Using ethanol free gas is a must and always use fresh gas as part of your repair! Good job!!!
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
I was thinking the same thing.
Very good video. Was trying to avoid taking a carb off my tiller but I’ll try. We only use ethanol free fuel in everything we own. Thanks!
no problem and good luck
Thank you now I know where the fuel filter is and I can try to fix my lawn mower
no problem
Exelent video i was doing something wrong and you teaching me the wright way thanks
no problem and thank you Robert Ontiveros
I used to run ethanol gas until I got a gut full of vapor-locking and then switched to non-ethanol and have been there ever since. Everything just runs better and I never have any trouble starting at the beginning of the season even though I do NOT use any kind of stabiliser. I never drain a tank unless whatever it is is going to be down for a long time as in a year or two. But all my stuff is old and is a lot more forgiving than newer stuff. Good fix and I'm going to take the primer back off the electric start and lay the compressor to it and also charge the battery with a GOOD charger instead of the wannabe things that comes with it. Thanks and Blessings!
if it works for you, I would keep doing it your way! Thank you Lewie McNeely
@@HomeGaragechannel U 2!
Nice work. It almost looks like when you unclog that jet a little piece of something falls out. You can actually see it hit the bench faintly in the background. Keep up the great work.
wow now I'm going to have to watch it again
I love Star Trek. Thanks for the comment.
Hey great video.I run all high test gas in all my lawn equipment.Low test ethanol gas goes bad much quicker. Thx for video
Great point!
Thank you! Excellent video!

Thank you, works perfectly now. I do appreciate your video, really big help thank you again

Once again, cleaning the jet worked. You just like pressing primer bulbs. I use non-ethanol premium with fuel stabilizer for the mower. Never had a problem keeping it running.
It could be a fetish or OCD but primer bulbs are nice to push.

I know this is an old post but just watched it. I use 10% at the start of each year, just to help clean out any varnish that may have built up. Usually just 1 gallon for both mower and gas edger. I then swap to non-Ethonal the rest of the year. I store them in the shed for the winter. Before I got the shed, I stored outside but covered with Grill covers cause they hold up better the tarps.
thats a very good approach
Great fix 👍 I use ethanol free fuel in all my equipment year round.
