I know absolutely nothing about repairing engines. My lawn mower stopped working and I wanted to see if I could figure it out before taking it for repair. I followed everything step by step and it works now!!!!!!! Thank you so much! I feel so proud of myself today lol
I pick up the same model lawnmower-mulcher for 25.00 it was missing the air filter cover and the blade was bent. First thing I done was put a good spare blade on it changed the adapter and got a air filter cover from my parts lawnmower and put a new filter on it and plug. Fired over good compression. So I took off the carburetor and gas tank and cleaned them really well. It started right up but it had a little noise from the spare blade. So I bought a new steel gator mulching blade. It runs perfect for 50.00 into it. These new models Briggs have a bad design. Maintain the mower regularly pull the carburetor and tank and front wheels they like to get dirt and debris in the gears. Very great video workmanship and communication. Keep up the great work
I never worked on a machine in my life, and I had no clue on how to fix my lawnmower. After following your step-by-step instructions, and two pulls my lawnmower is back running. It hasn't run for almost 2 years. Thank you so much for saving us money and teaching us the tricks of the trade.
Watched this last weekend after going by friends house and verifying spark etc... never seen a plastic carb. But pulled it apart and the jets and holes didn’t look clogged but I ran some wire through it all.! It is a 2014. Fired up after second pull. Thanks a million!!!
I picked one up at a yard sale $45 bucks and did a tune up before starting, had been sitting 10 years or so, I added Lucas injector cleaner to clean the jets and any other internal components, runs like a charm I love it!!
Lefty 5/15/21 Thank You Hank, Watched you today and I was able to fix my TB200 Troy-Built that would start then stop. The mower had sit all winter. Found one small hole blocked, cleaned it, put it backed together and started right up. Easy video to fallow. Saved me lots of money!!
This was immensely helpful. Thank you for posting this video. Mine wouldn't stay started after it did start. So watched your video and then just cleaned it myself. Started right up first pull.
Worked!! Watched this 2xs and did it step by step on my troybilt. Started right up and sounded brand-new. Never stuttered or anything. This after 2 weekends of it running for 30 seconds at a time. Cannot thank you enough!
Got this exact mower for free. A buddy of mine pulled it out of a shed from a clean out. it wouldn't start so I followed this video and now the mower is purring like a kitten. great video, super helpful. Thanks!
Thanks Hank! Just did my first carb rebuild. Neighbor threw out a nice self propelled mower that didn’t run. Cleaned the jets and reinstalled the welch plug that had come loose and boom! Running perfectly
Thank you so much..My Troybuilt 3 years old always started on 1st or 2nd pull..Started mowing lawn and it simply died...Got new air filter put starting fluid in the carb...Same thing starts 2 sec later it died..I did what your are doing a few years back on my craftsman..I just needed a refresher course and yours is perfect. Back outside I go.. Thank ya much!
Thanks you got mine running. I've had mine for about 4 years now and every spring I have had to take it in to get it worked on with this same issue. This year I decided I'd try to do it myself and found out I've WASTED so much money. Also love those Bosch impacts. I have a set also and they're not so powerful you can accidentally strip something yet still strong enough to accomplish just about everything.
I have been out of mower repair for a few years and this got me up to speed real quick, it`s the little tricks and tips that help ya through. After having done the preliminaries I narrowed down my search to the carb and then I saw your video and viola. 10 minutes later the little heap of metal fired up and away it went. Thank you
Thank you much for this video and all your time and effort, just bought a used one just like this and after following all your instructions it came back to life, I wish you the very best and thank you again
This video was very helpful. After a few pauses and rewinds I got the carb pulled off cleaned and reinstalled. Pulled the cord and the mower started on the first pull. Thanks for posting this video.
PERFECT!!! Mine would not start and I AM NOT an engine repair guy. Followed this step by step and it started first pull. BTW also changed my air filter and the mower runs great - The Briggs and Stratton filter from Lowes fit it perfect.
Amazing fix , glad I found your video now to work on mine that I was about to take to the repair man but I think I can do this thanks a lot a new subscriber from now on greetings from Edinburg Tx
Thanks a bunch partner. Mine wasn’t clogged in those areas (at least far as I could tell) - still tried to clean them some. Cleaned out a fair amount of dust clumps and what now, reassembled and thank God it actually works again! I’m wondering if I was too rough with it and knocked something a little loose, and when I put it back together maybe that fixed the issue. Only writing this for someone else that might be in the same shoes. - that carberator looks somewhat susceptible to getting knocked off. I’ll say no more
Many thanks for this! My mower isn't even a year old, not properly winterized, but I'm hoping this isn't necessary, and glad you have this video up in case I need to do more.
thank you, I got one brand new exactly like this one someone bought it , used it once and left it in the shed for some years (since 2012 lol)...anyways I am in the process of cleaning the carburetor..your video has been very helpful, thank you ,thank you, thank you!
Wasn't sure why mine wouldn't start after changing spark plug and air filter. I'll clean out the carburetor and hope that helps. Thank you for the video
Holy cow that was a fantastic find. Way newer than my mower. Great fix. Those plastic carbs look like they might be easier to work on then the regular metal ones. Thanks for the video.
Tried this but still won't start. I didn't notice any white plastic donut piece in mine that you mention at 7:10 in the video. Mine will start but only rough and with the air filter holder unattached. It also will blow an oily gas mixture out the breather hose. With the air filter piece attached, it won't start.
I just found a TB360! Barley used an I assumed the same thing just tossed out cause it won't start so now I just need to find that small issue! An she should be brand new!
My Troybuilt T200… stop running.. I followed ur directions and instructions it still will not crank…. It’s only 2 yrs old… any other suggestions… what size socket did u use to take out bolts on carburetor
Thank you thank you thank you Saved me a lot of time and money. Awesome thanks. I followed the video because my mower would not start and I did what u did and it worked !!! Thanks a million. Here's alike and follow
What is that metal wire at 2:23 after you take the top cover off because I sure did not reinstall mine that way. That could be my problem. It has the loop facing down.
I have a brand new one and it already stalls. Explain that one to me? Has oil and gas. Ran for half of my yard and now won’t start. I have a TB210B model.
Thank you very much, this is really helpful i followed your video step by step even.pause and rewind just to make sure i got right until the end as soon as i pulled that string 😀 😄 😊 Wow! like i said thank you😇
Hank, I just used a 31-9334 ignition module to fix a no spark issue with an older briggs edger, runs great now 👌. Just trying to get the kill switch part to work? I wouldn’t think kill switch would need to be modified. Even was thinking of using a metal kill tab to the plug.
If there isn’t one running off of the coil you will have to make one. Easiest way is a strip of metal under one of the head bolts so it hovers over the plug.
just grabbed one very similar to this one TB330 off the side of the road, missing the bagger. oil looks good, gas looks good but doesnt start. gonna tinker with it in the morning and see what the issue is, i automatically assume its carb issues.
My TB230 took a poop 💩 I was hoping that you could help me please trouble shoot it. I suction the fuel out and changed the oil. My reason for changing the oil I seen very small amount of water mix milkshake. Not a lot at all. I used 10-30 to flush it after draining the old oil. I used Full synthetic SAE 30 & 10W-30. I use it in both of my Troy Built Briggs. I went to start the lawnmower and it blew bluish smoke out of the exhaust. I released the break handle asap. I checked the oil and it looks great and fresh. I removed the air filter cover I did see some oil in the bottom carburetor hole. I removed the carburetor and fuel tank and cleaned very well and dried both free of moisture. I resembled. I just knew that it was going to start because I do great work. It didn't start. I scratched my head thinking what's the corporate. I checked the spark plug at the beginning and it did have oil on it fouled out. I put the plug back in. After rebuilding I removed the plug and pulled the draw cord for air lock and to see if any oil would come out of the spark plug dwell. Yes oil did slowly drip not much and very little spot's of oil came out. I got all the oil out and no more oil gets on the spark plug. Still didn't start. So I asked myself if the ignition coil was sending spark to the plug. So I bought a ignition coil & spark plug tester. I seen it light up red as I'm pulling the draw cord. Still no start. I know that it has compression. My thoughts when I drained the oil I didn't pull the draw cord to T.D.C. Top Dead Center and oil passed with what very little fuel that was in the tank. I don't see a bad ignition coil being the reason that it blew bluish smoke out of the exhaust. I've been reading and under the flywheel is a flapper that's supposed to keep oil from passing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You took the white jet assembly out and took that apart and cleaned it right? That’s where these foul up. Make sure ground for Blade control cable contacts the arm properly at the engine. The blade cable is supposed to pull it back and unground the coil.

Just what I needed. My carb jets looked pretty clean, but I squirted ‘em out anyway. I think it was probably stale gas in the carb. Started first pull!! I feel empowered hahaha 😂
Hi I found one of these today in the same condition and i have already taken the carb apart and put it together but I noticed the pin that holds the float does not stay in or easily falls out. What is the hex plug on the bottom of the carburetor cup for (@8:34)? Sounds like you can turn it with an Allen wrench to drain fuel from the carb.?
yea thats all its for is draining the carburetor out.

There is the sparkplug wire and then towards the rear on the coil there is a ground. Yea both need to be installed.

Excellent demonstration, thanks! 👍👍. Is Briggs going to plastic carbs on all their engines?
It's on all their newer OHV engines made after 2013.
It just seems like it.
I get the idea, but they are horrible.
The old stuff is great
Correct. All newer engines have these carbs. The higher end pro models have all metal carbs but they are basically a larger Honda clone.
