I have this exact same mower that was having this exact same issue and I solved it in 30 seconds...and this guy could have done the same thing. Modern gas has a fairly high detergent content and doesn’t usually gum up these little carbs much unless they’ve really been sitting a LONG time. All this guy had was a sticky needle valve-you could tell because it hung up before falling out. Sometimes the float can stick a little as well. Before you go taking anything off and start tearing apart the carburetor unnecessarily simply take a screwdriver handle and give the bottom of the carb bowl a few firm taps. This usually is enough to jar the float and/or needle valve loose. I did this and it started right up. Work smart, not hard. To prevent future issues put about an ounce of Seafoam in with the gas. Problem solved.

Craftsman made some of the worst push mowers I’ve ever seen! (junk). I bought mine brand new many years ago and got one full season of mowing out of it. First of all I take care of my equipment, I cleaned the mower after every use. It still looks new but haven’t run for years now. I took it apart twice got it running and was able to mow a couple of times before it started acting up again. This time I took it to a lawnmower repair man. He looked at it and I last it with him. Two days later he called and said it was ready to go. I picked it up and went home and tried to mow , the same issue not working right. Took it back and he did something,I don’t know what? That mower still don’t run , I mean it would start but that’s it. (JUNK) I had a riding mower and it lasted for twenty two yrs. So buyer beware there push mowers are junk and it was around$400.00.
I should have bought the mower I had to prime. This is BS! This video I will save for my son to fix. Thinking your getting the most for your money. Read the fine print. I'm so done. Two hours later: I got it started without the breakdown. I cleaned the filter vacuumed the filter area, drained the gas out and kicked and shooked it. Came back two hours later and it started. Hallelujah!
Have this model and a 10+ year old craftsman. The 10 year old one sits in the back yard all winter and starts every spring without anything. The new one, doesn't start at all and its spotless. POS.
Magneto clearance! Got one for free. Seemed pull start was normal. Fresh fuel. Would gradually start with multiple pulls but even then it would stumble on very low rpm for several seconds then get going. Once it started, it ran good. Spark was good. Compression good. Very dirty filter. Carb had been molested so I bought a replacement. Same prob. Checked valve lash and adjusted. Same prob. Decided to take engine cover off to see if there was a problem in there. Noticed the magneto looked too close to the flywheel. Used the business card trick to adjust. Fired right up. I guess the incorrect magneto clearance was from the factory.
What type of fuel are yall using tho? I have the same mower i bought brand new from lowes 6 years ago and it still starts by the 2nd pull if not on the 1st!!!! I use nothing but ethanol free unleaded fuel
I'm torn on landscape vs portrait mode when I make these vids now. When I look at the metrics for my viewership, so many views come from mobile phones, that I've begun to film more and more in portrait because people are using their phones to watch when they are working on their mowers. Landscape shows more detail, but since youtube supports the larger portrait mode now , I've begun to abandon landscape. Sorry 😐
Thanks for the awesome video !! Was able to clean and flush out my Florida flood mower from hurricane Idalia and brake down and clean the carb. Works great now. I told my wife see, all these video's I watch on RUclips university pay off. LOL. Signed, wish I was a small engine mechanic. LOL Thanks from Weeki wachee Fl.
Great video! Got the same mower. Last of last year's mowing season, it would start first pull every time. Sat in the garage over winter, first time trying to start today, and it wouldn't. Spraying starter gets it to turn over but it won't keep running. So, something in the carb, likely. So, what it the PREVENTATIVE takeover that might avoid this - is it draining the gas before storage? Using only non-ethanol gas? What? Thanks!
I think the best prevention you can do is to store it inside somewhere if you can, and drain all the gas out. If you can't drain the gas or don't want to, run ethanol free gas in these things. It's the ethanol especially when mixed with just a little bit of moisture, that causes all the stuff to build up in these carbs
Thanks much for your response. Did the cleanout procedure in the video. Mower is like new. Would not start afterward. BEFORE the cleanout, using starter fluid got it to turn over but it quickly shut off. Did the cleanout (no obvious dirt or sediment in carb), but no start afterward, tried starter again, and this time nothing at all. Last of last season, it worked PERFECT, started within 1-2 pulls. Also, drained all the fuel out, filled back with ethanol-free, and installed a new sparkplug. Nothing. Weird. Very frustrating. BTW, this model has no primer button. I even tried the trick of tilting the mower on left to help gas flow into the carb - no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Amazing video! Thanks for the step by step process. Greatly detailed and an amazing walkthrough. Totally gave me the know how and I was able to fix the mower right away. Thankyou!!!!!
This is the worse design ever, I have a mower that has seen Lee's then 3 hours of use and I have to do this every time I want to mow the lawn, it's less then a year old, as much as I want to buy American it seems we as a nation are no longer smart enough to make a working mower
These carbs are so prone to clogging up it is inexcusable. I blame the gas we use nowadays as much as the design. Use some stabil or seafoam in your tank and it should prevent some of the issues you are having.
@@jcx2bby was talking to my landlord about this just now. He mentioned the fuel these days. Blame it on the democratic party with their "green energy" ideology he said. Our fuel back then never did this crap. He says its absolute sabotage and the fuel we use slowly kills and destroys our engine.

Great video! Thanks for making it. I had an opportunity to buy this mower (used only 4 times) for $30. After watching I realized its a piece of junk. Even if I fixed it by watching your video, chances are it would just break again in 2-3 months. :-)
This is a great video, and is very informative. However, the first thing I would recommend to start with is just spraying a little more starting fluid in upon initial check. My buddies wouldn’t start and had only been used one Indiana summer. I was totally prepared to take this apart and clean all the ports etc, but before I did I tried having the wife pull it while I sprayed the starting fluid. Once I got it started and it ran off the spray for 2 seconds, it was fine. Again, the video is great, but potentially save yourself some work and try this first.

Sorry I didn't see this comment when you posted. Sometimes RUclips notifications don't work well. I am sure you figured this out by now, but my guess would be that the mower was run without oil and possibly ground the camshaft lobes flat, which is why you don't see movement on the valves. What could my issue be ... my mower is making a clanking noise and it's smoking... itll cut my yard for so long then shut off and won't recrank... and if it does crank up it'll run for so long before it spit oil out the exhaust tip and air filter
Well first thing I'd check is to see if it has too much oil in it. That can cause those issues. Otherwise you could have internal engine damage like bad piston rings and valves. It is hard to say.
These carbs on these mowers drive me nuts. I have to filter any fuel I put into mine. Gas station fuel will have little tiny flakes of rust that will clog those jets up in that white piece. I ran mine completely out of fuel for winter and I went to start it today with fresh fuel and it's still clogged up for the 3rd year in a row
Incredible this guy doesn't know what he's doing the majority of the time is a clogged main jet that small little hole on top of the main jet needs to be cleared just poke it first with a thin wire then blast it with carb cleaner and also the three holes in bottom of the main jet you can use some air after to clean the main jet even more if that doesn't work buy a new main jet and that should solve the problem and also put fresh gas.
Mike, why did this video make you think I don't know what I'm doing? I saw the other comment about the gas tank...was that why? Because I do it differently than you prefer?

My brother, I just bought a Craftsman m110 from marketplace and in the description were no issues with the motor, however, when I went to pick it up I found out that it has set for 2 years and it wouldn't crank up. So the husband told me instead of $100 give him $75 for the more in that I will have to get it serviced... Well I'm so proud to say that for the first time in my life I followed RUclips and had taken the carburetor apart and got it started by the grace of God myself! 🤗 I thank you so much for your layman termed video and may God bless you further in your knowledge! 🤗
Thank you Donald, I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment. Congrats on the fix!
I’m in this boat
Usually I don’t comment on any video. But you really save me , this instruction it so details that 5 years can do it 😅. Thank you so much!
@@nas1232100 thank you for taking the time to comment!
Reminds me of my first marriage. Everything was going so well until the abrupt unexplained ending.
I refer to this guide every 1.5 yrs to fix my lawn mower probably saved me ~$250 so far.
I just bought and am told, theres a solution you need to buy to prevent the gas from gumming up after sitting
this thing has been giving me a headache for a week or so I took everything apart cleaned the carb multiple times and nothing. I lifted the back of it and manually turned the blades with my hands a few times and BOOM starts right up. Hope this helps!
Thank you for the time you put into making this video on the next one. Take me about a half an hour start to finish and in the end the lawn mower started on the first pull. Liked the video and subscribe as well
Craftsman made some of the worst push mowers I’ve ever seen!
The carburetors on these models are garbage. Straight trash. And couple that with ethanol gas and you have a losing proposition
Hallelujah!
Understood
Have this model and a 10+ year old craftsman. The 10 year old one sits in the back yard all winter and starts every spring without anything. The new one, doesn't start at all and its spotless. POS.
Yup. Sadly I can see this.
Yes it does happen sometimes. ruclips.net/video/lzCgcI0YDYw/видео.html
What type of fuel are yall using tho? I have the same mower i bought brand new from lowes 6 years ago and it still starts by the 2nd pull if not on the 1st!!!! I use nothing but ethanol free unleaded fuel
The ethanol is the issue. But it is impractical to buy large quantities of it if you have a lot of ground
Nice. great info, clear guide of what is up. But please... horizonal landscape mode please.. .... please.
Sorry 😐
Hey thanks man! You’re great at being descriptive and explaining what/why you are doing things. Time to go clean mine up and see if it works 🤞
Thank you Vincent, I truly appreciate that feedback. Good luck with your repairs.
Great job Frank! Thanks for the feedback and congrats on the fix
Outstanding, glad to hear this!
not a good mower. sadly :( mine does the same thing and it's not even that old
Terrible carb design. Concur
Thanks. My lawnmower did not run and now my grass is cut.
Sweet!
Thank you. This helped me fix my POS mower
You are welcome and congrats
Thanks so much, mine is fairly new but had the same problem. Followed your video and it worked the first time! I was so relieved, cheers!
Great to hear!
@@demonlordomegaacepilot7090 the ethanol wreaks havoc on the little carbs.
@@jcx2bby thats the thing wasnt using ethanol was using unleaded fuel with fuel treatment. Havent used the lawn moore since winter we start it up. Sure enough doesnt start. Note: however she had same problem you had after putting it together. So labdlord covered the suction hole and covered and opened it with his bare hands. That how we got last part to work. I swear these little small holes do not help for easy maintenace.

That second linkage is for the automatic choke. The Other end runs to the muffler. As the muffler heats up the bimetallic element pushes the linkage and opens the choke.
Worked like a charm thanks for the information!
Great!
Right out of the box and it won’t start! This mower is garbage.
It's how they all are now. Cheaply made and require a slight mechanical touch to keep going.
Similar story but mine wouldn’t start anymore after mowing the yard once
Excellent it work just like you said did exactly how you said and when I pried the lil middle piece loose them 3 lil holes 2 of them was stopped up. I believe from the manufacture cause its brand new and like the holes was not all the way open on 2 of them stuck the needle on both sides I was able to blow threw felt all 3 holes air came threw put everthing back together and walla pulled a few times it caught and been mowing my half of acre lol thanks
Good job Chris! A little knowledge and work goes a long way. Thanks for taking the time to comment
Thanks for showing me how to clean the m110 craftsman mower. The carburetor was very dirty. Your video was very helpful.
BEFORE you do this: mine wouldn't crank, watched this video, and then sprayed WD-40 in the top gril and cranked it like 4 times and it worked. So try that first.
Great video! Thanks for making it. I had an opportunity to buy this mower (used only 4 times) for $30. After watching I realized its a piece of junk. Even if I fixed it by watching your video, chances are it would just break again in 2-3 months. :-)
They're not well made.
WHEN I PULL mine, it just back fire a little bit, but wont start... same model... i already cleaned the carburetor and it still the same.
In other words if you use this mower 3 times you have to become a small engine mechanic
Yeah this mower has a terrible reputation. It is not well designed.
@@jcx2bby i have a brand new mower for sell may not start 🤣
@@drumhailer547 lol
This is a great video, and is very informative. However, the first thing I would recommend to start with is just spraying a little more starting fluid in upon initial check. My buddies wouldn’t start and had only been used one Indiana summer. I was totally prepared to take this apart and clean all the ports etc, but before I did I tried having the wife pull it while I sprayed the starting fluid. Once I got it started and it ran off the spray for 2 seconds, it was fine. Again, the video is great, but potentially save yourself some work and try this first.
Absolutely, great tip!
I’ve never taken anything apart in my life. Followed this video, and got my lawnmower running again. Great video bro. Much thanks.
Thank you kind viewer. Glad to have been able to help.
Those B&S motors with the plastic carburetor, like that, don't have fuel filters. Uh, LOL! When I cleaned out my carburetor I found debris in the Jet Module, and a lot of debris at the bottom of the fuel bowl, right next to the primary jet. It's like they were made to support the service industry, LOL!
It's all collusion at the corporate level, to make a design this bad. Lol
This guy's video very thorough watched followed it and mine started right up after doing this.
Awesome Mike!
You don't really need remove the hose just remove the gas tank and then remove the carb with the gas tank together and you won't have no gas spills
Most of the time they don't need cleaned when they are new. Moister builds up in the bowl and it will run for for a second on a pull and stop.
You got my lawn mowed with this video. Thanks a ton. I guess letting this kind of mower sit will likely result in failure to start unless cleaned
Thanks for commenting James. Yes, it appears that even one winter of sitting plays havoc on these carburetors. It's sad.
Thanks My M220 and my old 725 are up and running with single pull. Key was at 17:09 and cleaning that middle tube.
Nice! Congrats!
Fan-effin-TASTIC. Followed step by step til' I got to the carb(since you said the bowl it sat in seemed to be the problem). Then reassembled it! Boom, works!! A neighbor was going to throw this away, I asked if I can have it. I feel bad that it was this easy to fix but they already had a new one so 🤷🏾
Awesome! Congrats on keeping this one out of the landfill. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Just used your video and I fixed my mower! I am not handy, so thanks for making this easy for me
Awesome sauce! Thanks for taking the time to come in
Just a great video overall, super helpful. Followed your step-by-step instructions and my lawn mower cranked up on the first pull thanks again.
Thank you!
Im working on one at the moment...it's freaken NEW..The damn filter clean...clean ..clean
the carb to this is POS. ...on purpose. ( instead of just having a tube in the
center like other carbs ..)So people will buy more lawn mowers.
Same exact problem right now after winter smh. Im not going to try and fix this ima mess something up
@@hotwheelsmustang1662 try draining the bad fuel out of it...first. it's just a POS all plastic CARB...easy start my ARSS. Plastic gets BRITTLE in COLD weather...You're better off putting old style car on it..so you can adjust the HI and LOW. I clean a $500 mower i got for FREE. Drain the fuel.lmao
@@oneeyemonster3262 thanks for the reply. Mine had sat for approximately 5 months during winter. I literally tried for about 30min this morning would start and die quick. I gave up for about 2 hrs came back and after about 10 tries it turned on and stayed on. I was able to do my yard just fine after that
@@hotwheelsmustang1662 ..As long as it works. I flushed one of those carb 5 times. Cleaned the jets...ect. it WOULNDT stay running. ...but I could spray fuel or carb cleaner into the intake ( less the carb). The engine would run.
It's not the engine itself...it's just that CARB design
There;s nothing to adjust on it..Just keep an eye out for used mowers for $10-$20..Most of the time it's just the CARB and dirty plug..Most of the engine has less than 20-50 hours running time.lol ( even thou they're older or just SAT. Some guy gave me 3 each mowers for FREE..I got them all to start/run. Took it to good well..ect

My last B+S motor was never cleaned and lasted over a decade. This piece of crap is brand new and needs to have the carb cleaned every month What a joke. Great video BTW.
Thanks for the comment. Your experience mirrors mine and so many others. It's a shame what ethanol and cheap components have done to a once great name in engines.
Thanks, man. I am a small engine noob. The details like socket size were amazing. I did everything like you showed and it wouldn't srart until the sixth pull. Exactly what you showed in the video. Thanks, again
You are welcome Bart. Truly glad to help and thanks for the positive feedback.
Great video big guy! I wanted to try one last ditch effort before I started breaking everything down and cleaning it. I bought a $6 bottle of mechanic in a bottle. Emptied the old fuel and mixed with some fresh fuel. Sprayed with staring fluid like you recommended and it has been running ever since. Thanks!

i have a one year old mower like yours that was low on oil and slightly locked up, but i got it unlocked easily. the valves are not moving at all when i turn the blades. but the valves moves when i push on them at the spring part. when i pull the rope there is no compression, only a ticking sound. does not start with starting fluid. i dont know what im doing but im learning as i go. is there any hope for this mower? ty
Sorry I didn't see this comment when you posted. Sometimes RUclips notifications don't work well. I am sure you figured this out by now, but my guess would be that the mower was run without oil and possibly ground the camshaft lobes flat, which is why you don't see movement on the valves. Update us, if you can. Thank you.
Just wanted to see how the progress on the fix for the m270 cracked handle assembly is did you get the parts shipped out to repair it yet
Unfortunately no. Still waiting and I fear it is not going to arrive. Sad situation.

Thanks for the detailed video! Got my pos craftsmen back in the game!
Yes!
Hope I’m not the only one that blew on it like he did. Got it running immediately after watching this! Bless you. Sucks this is happening to so many people.
Guarantee that many have checked their floats with a mouth compressor haha. Thanks for taking the time to comment
I hear you. They're junk
Sure wish I saw this before buying the damn thing. Going through it not starting now after buying it last fall and using it 4 times , sat in my in closed patio over the winter and now it won’t start.
I need to make an update video showing the necessity of using Seafoam when storing fuel in these tanks. The ethanol really clogs things up
Thank you sir for posting this. It ended up being the same issue you had. This helped give me the confidence to complete the job and fixed my mower. Keep up the good work!
Nice mike! Congrats on getting it going.
Sure enough it was the calcium looking build up on little holes of the carburetor piece. Thank you!!
Outstanding! Congrats on the success!
Just got sane mower used about 3 times and now is leaking oil from the Air Filter and a bit from the front valve cover
Sounds like there's way too much oil in it
