Thanks for watching. This Husqvarna mower had a very strange modification on that baffled me. The problem was that it would start and run but after a single pass it dies. Did we really need this mod or is someone just being extra cautious.

I would've left the carb alone like you did and worked with the dashpot. Looked like someone ground off part of the mount so it could be moved back to open the choke disc further. Maybe the choke was staying closed too much and loading the engine up. That's my 2 cents and you did a fine job. A-PLUS! Blessings!

I have a helpful hint for about the easiest way to drain gas from your mower. Use the hoses that fill kerosene heaters. Just have it going in the opposite direction. Instead of putting it in the tank, you can turn that hose around and remove it from the tank with just a squeeze of the bulb. Easy as pie sweety.

I'm not the entire way through the video, but check the fuel lines, needle seat, and coil. Compression is somewhat low on that engine judging from the sound and how long the hot start took. Check the valve adjustments. Mostly a well worn 15ish year old mower that's not far from retirement.

I'm not sure, but I would never say no to a carb clean. They cause all sorts of havoc if clogged. But I wonder too about the coil. Sometimes when they start to fail it's when its heated up. 2 minutes would do that. When it was running it sounded pretty good. So I would check the coil.

There was likely a problem with the carburetor at some point and they added the manual lever to alleviate that problem and then just decided to leave it so they would have manual control.

No,if the carburettor ain't broken then don't fix it.
One cause of hard starting when hot with the old Briggs and Stratton Choke O matic carburettors on my mower was a loss of engine compression, even though the engine ran with 75 PSI of compression,it took 6 pulls to start it when it was cold instead of 2 or 3,when it was hot & shut off for 10 minutes it was either very difficult to start or it wouldn't start when the Choke butterfly was closed.
The carburettor diaphragm which operates the choke override system was brand new as well, with new piston rings fitted it read at 92 PSI of compression once they bedded in,the engine starts much easier now whether it's hot or cold !

You may of checked the oil level first offline, just in case it was low.
The modification wasn’t too good to begin with, you noticed the slack on the arm and adjusted it so the vacuum improved.
If it stopped after a few minutes obviously not carby then if vacuum was fine and it still stopped.
I’ve had a faulty spark plug do that and it’s was new out of packet, otherwise an an alternative is the mower gets hot the coil could be weak and close to being replaced, knowing that a good coil would read on the multi meter in the 9s but a poor coil would be in the bad 12.5 ish, as an extreme case it is possible.

I just finished a Toro recycler that somehow had a cracked tank at the center seam. It was filthy all over and kept shutting off even though the gas was below the crack. Every piece that comes off will look brand new before it goes back on or if needs cleaning. I could never reassemble anything leaving it under the conditions I saw in this video. There's your heat. At the very least, get a brush and a blower. A few shots of carb cleaner does very well too. I just can't.

I have a year old Husqvarna rear wheel self-propelled mower with the Honda engine and went to mow with it today and I noticed it started running a little rough, coughing a little and quit running. It took me about a minute to get it started back up and then it quit on me within about 15 seconds. Took about 30 seconds to restart it and same thing again so I put it in the garage and mowed with our Snapper rear engine Hi-Vac rider. • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

In this case it was that weird bypass thing that was causing it to choke and die. That's why it was removed. Have you tried replacing the fuel line itself? It may have collapsed internally and is restricting fuel flow.

well during my testing it never happened to me. I basically put the mower back together minus the extra stuff the put on it. If were you, I'd take off the fuel cap, spray carb cleaner into the 4 little holes on the underside of the cap and then use compressed air to clean out the holes. The holes are part of the venting system and if they're clogged with dirt then it'll cause the engine to starve of fuel after a couple of minutes of running.
