Modern Zombie Simpsons has constant pauses that go nowhere. No jokes, no comedic timing, just awkward pausing for the sake of filling time between scenes. If this scene were done today, Burns and Smithers would stand there silently while Kissinger simply turns and leaves, then they would close the door and onto the next scene.

This whole video is a testament to the great writing of Early Simpsons, but credit is also due to those responsible for the visual timing of the animation to make quick, subtle gags like that work so well.
