This is the same place that just left sulfuric acid that was concentrated enough for one vial to completely burn through the wall just sitting there for Homer to accidentally almost drink.
I watched this episode when it aired and the interesting thing about coming back to revisit it over time you realize how your own perception changes. At first Frank’s zany actions are comedic, then you empathize with him, but eventually you realize that he’s let bitterness really consume him to the point where he’s being adversarial to Homer, who’s tried being nothing but friendly to him. In a sense Lenny and Carl’s support of Homer is like a mirror image of Grimes. Lenny and Carl even talk about how they’re credentialed (as Frank is) while Homer isn’t, but that doesn’t stop them from being friends.
while Grimes is right that Homer did sort of fall upwarts all his life, Grimes ignored the real reason to why. Which is that Homer is nice and likeable. People want Homer in their lives since he makes it better and wants to be everyones friend. So, they want good things to happen to him. While Grimes is all about work. He has no friends, because he is too goal focused to let anyone in and get close to him. Of course no one will give him a promotion, he is an ass to everyone. I like to think that this realization is what broke him. Everyone hated him and not Homer. Love and friendship isn't earned accademically or at the work place. He wasted his life doing something he hates alone, assuming that the sheer act of doing stuff you hate and nothing else means success. While Homer was content by explicatly not doing that.
@@frankwest5388 This. Homer provides for his family and he's a great guy to have a beer with and hang out. Even those that Homer has hated over the years, such as Flanders, Homer still showed him humanity at Flanders lowest point. When Marges sisters were in trouble, he was enjoying it but immediately saved them when he saw Marge upset. Frank Grimes had no such humanity. He died as he lived. Nothing but bitterness in his heart for all around him.
I think what really broke my heart for Homer trying to be Frank’s friend was that he actually invited him to dinner and Frank just lost it on him when he came to the house.
@@mariafox9226 Whats making that scene worse is that Homer and his family is really trying their best to show a sense of respect for Grimes with providing the best food they can have and even dress for the occasion. Ironically he was smart here to Fans making sure the towers don't fall over. Meltdown or spill preventative. Shows maybe homer is smart when he wants to be. He's just lazy. (Heck look @ earlier episodes he legit works hard and is serious minus the donut eating)
@@robinhyperlord9053 Thats wrong though. The reason Grimes' lot in life is because hes not valuing the right things. Homer met Marge and made an effort to court her, he sacrificed a lot for her and the kids all while being the child of a motherless home with an unloving father. Homer put himself out there and his attitude, when he decides to stop being lazy, is very endearing to a lot of other characters. Frank on the other hand is bitter, hes bitter of everyone who isnt him and didnt work as hard as him. He isolates himself and upon learning of Homer's good fortune decides to bully and ridicule him instead of learning how he can live better. Grimes had a horrible lot in life, but decided to be horrible because of it.
@@apollo-3744 but Grimes never had ANYTHING in life. No one ever cared about him, no one showed him love or helped him. People always forget how much Homer sacrifice and sacrificed. He has the most demoralizing motivational poster in his office/workspace that Burns specifically placed to remind Homer who belongs to
As a child I loved this episode. I loved how Homer wound him up without even trying. As an adult, Frank Grimes is the most relatable tv character ever.
@@meyague Grimey is the polar opposite of Homer. He works hard, and applies himself. He’s had to overcome adversity at every stage in his life with little to no reward or recognition and when he sees Homer breezing through life his frustration boils over. In that sense, his envy is justified. It’s not Homer’s fault, but Grimey is powerless so that’s where he directs his anger. This is why I think he’s so relatable.
I remember when Grimes saves Homer from drinking acid, was outraged and found it unbelievable that Homer was laughing, and since comedy comes in threes: Burns was outraged and Grimes got blamed for it all for saving Homer’s mouth and throat and possibly life. No good deed goes unpunished.
I like how homer showed concern for grimey, even though grimey CHOSE to throw everything he worked hard to accomplish in favor of his obsessive hatred and petty jealousy.
Yep that’s only thing can be real for grimes and I still don’t understand why the people is a real person in a cartoon world because he is a cartoon character
@1:39. I agree with Lenny, "Homer beat there brains out". On the surface Martin's Nuclear Plant is the most innovative and it appears he deserved it. But remember your dealing with Mr. Burns he lacks vision and doesn't see anything wrong with the current plant. So Homer gave Mr. Burns what he wanted, a copy of the current plant with some minor modifications. Trust me you'll encounter people like this in the real world, who lack innovation and depth then you have to deliver a bad product which they think is great, but you know much better (I'm a Software Engineer).
That's the problem with having the ability to just buy a business if you have the money. You can be a completely lacklustre boss in necessary departments, and yet, you have everyone's lives and jobs on your hands. There was a video a while back. 'I'll show them who is boss, arsenic and old lace', you might like it, Xavior. ruclips.net/video/BIbXOn5zjko/видео.html
SirXavior like I said. Grimes was martin’s model, highly efficient and a better model but cold sterile with no heart. Homer is the barely passable model that impressed with its simplicity. Many great products have been invented but pitched to the wrong crowd. Look at green energy as a perfect example....
We had a team member have a breakdown once. He was a hard worker like the rest of us. We all got on well in and out of work. One day, out of the blue, he smashed his keyboard down, stood up and started screaming bad about every one of us. Yelling out all the things we wanted to improve but weren't allowed to in front of the boss. There was no warning about it. He was fine and then he wasn't. Obviously, he was fired on the spot. Didn't even take his stuff. The rest of us got a telling about procedures and why they are the way they are and why we won't be changing them. 3 months later ... procedures were changed to match the ones he'd been screaming about. Credit went to the office snitch who had "been thinking about it for a while"
I can identify way too much with that. While I'd never go the full route to actually smash stuff or scream at someone my previous workplace was quite similar - we were still working with internal tools written in Flash in 2020. 2 weeks ago I got my termination letter, even tho I was considered "one of the best that came in a few years" ... maybe I should have taken 20 minute trips to the vending machine, avoiding work watching netflix, putting in minimal effort by the scheme "at least I tried" and failing simple tasks like some of my former workmates.
The whole point is that he's like a real life person put into a cartoon show with cartoon logic. I can't blame him for losing his sanity, most would if they were put into such an irrational world.
While Homer did unintentionally annoy the crap out of Grimes and got him in trouble (though Grimes practically saved his life), yeah...Grimes should of leave things well alone when he's starting to get the picture no one really sees Homer as a moron who doesn't deserve such lucky breaks in life. Instead he tried to prove a point that went nowhere and reacted badly to it. Worst thing was that Homer was genuinely trying to be friends with him or at least make some peace with Grimes after pissing him off. So...Grimes ended up causing his own demise. You feel bad for the guy being an unlucky son of a bitch but he was growing spiteful towards Homer who really wasn't trying to be a dick and it ends badly. .......Really does not help Homer literally forgot that he died years later...In front of the man's son.
There are tons of situations like that. You have many underskilled workers in high positions but they survive in their shortcomings because everyone loves a clown/someone who makes them smile.
I love how Lenny and Carl we're supportive of Homer. It's just shows that they have loyalty and loyalty is a great personality and characteristic trait for friendship. I felt that in my heart. 😍😎💯👍
"I'm Homer Simpson!" "Hehe you wish!" Lmao that comment definitely pushed Franks nerves even more and Homer has no idea XD Genuinely burst out laughing at that one lol
What Grimes didn’t understand is that Homer is a MASTER of subtle flattery. All Burns cares about is money. Martins design worked and would ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE, which is why Burns hated it. Homers was a replica of what works for Burns now, with added facade improvements that won’t take away from what they have now. Plus, Homers co workers love it because it wouldn’t eliminate their jobs, as Burns implied in the beginning.
When Grimes eats the donuts Homer's expression fluctuates between happy he's letting loose and upset donuts are being eaten by somebody else. Love the unique details and gags that only work in animation.
2:17, even Homer thinks going back to work without washing his hands is gross. Also, wow, Homer actually expressed concern for Frank after he lost his mind. Even though Homer is supposed to have his obnoxious tendencies cranked up in this episode, he still proves to be a better man than Frank.
The moral of this episode, as one of the writers puts it, is that sometimes you just can’t win. Frank Grimes’s disdain and even jealousy of Homer was his undoing. Even though he was right about Homer, Frank would have been better off just quitting the plant and just moving on. Instead, he became obsessed with discrediting Homer to the point that it eventually drove him mad.
What makes this scene even darker I think is that Frank Grimes knew he was gonna die. Once he snaps at 1:45 he's come to the realization that it is better to be dead than live with his worst enemy being adored. Once he saw the high voltage wires, he knew he was going to die and he was at peace with it. In fact the last frame we seem of Frank Grimes touching the wires is him smiling.
@@snnnaaaaaakeeeee4470 Didn't he grab that by accident when trying to eat his lunch? Probably easier to do than accidentally touching the high voltage thing

It's just Grimes was too hell bent on see this as a mockery rather than a respectful act.
I find it difficult to believe that Lenny Leonard has a masters in anything. He's written to be a very average blue collar drinking buddy of Homer and who lives in a rickety wooden house and eats tinned food for dinner.

Homer was pretty smart here actually. He knew how to play the system because Mr. Burns doesn't want any change in his power plant.

Ironically he was smart here to Fans making sure the towers don't fall over. Meltdown or spill preventative. Shows maybe homer is smart when he wants to be. He's just lazy. (Heck look @ earlier episodes he legit works hard and is serious minus the donut eating)
This part used to creep me out 'cause Frank was 100% accurate.
Frank is the ONLY good Simpsons character.

The real point?
@@apollo-3744 but Grimes never had ANYTHING in life. No one ever cared about him, no one showed him love or helped him. no he isn't. Grimes was envious and entitled
Problem is he blames all his problems on Homer when Mr Burns is the boss who doesn't pay him well or appreciate his hard work.

This is both disappointing and accurate. May God have mercy upon us all.
So thats the reason why the new gmail sucks? Because of innovation? Good luck Grimes ;)
Lots of people would kill to not spend some extra money. Simple modifications are often cheaper than large ones.

What Grimes didn’t understand is that Homer is a MASTER of subtle flattery. All Burns cares about is money. Martins design worked and would ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE, which is why Burns hated it. Frank Grimes’s disdain and even jealousy of Homer was his undoing. Even though he was right about Homer, Frank would have been better off just quitting the plant and just moving on.
Instead, he became obsessed with discrediting Homer to the point that it eventually drove him mad.

Seasons 3 to 8 was *defiantly* Homer's power plant.
What makes this scene even darker I think is that Frank Grimes knew he was gonna die. Once he snaps at 1:45 he's come to the realization that it is better to be dead than live with his worst enemy being adored.
