- In an edition of "Kent's People", Kent Brockman tells the story of Frank Grimes, a man who "had to struggle for everything he got in life." After seeing the show, Springfield Nuclear Power Plant owner Mr. Burns is so touched that he asks Smithers to hire Grimes as his Executive Vice President.
All rights go to 20th Century Fox
I love how touched and gratified Mr. Burns is that Homer just basically copied the existing plant.
It plays to his ego. It's saying you can't do better than what Burns has already done.
Well he did add the racing stripe
@@AnEnemySpy456 Yup, it's something children can't easily understand. Homer outsmarted them!
@@dragonmaster5377 looked good as well
Burns liked Homer's design because it honored the original. The ol' interview hypothetical with a burger on the side. Why add ketchup, if its already good.
The best part is, Homer could definitely have touched those electrical wires without any injury, because he's Homer Simpson.
Dude, he ate EVERYTHING within that power plant, and nothing effected him nor his body, he's like a legit power man of the near future 😂
the idea of the whole episode was to remark the absurdity of thw whole serie
The fact they were even there completely exposed just proves Ol Grimey's point lol
the next scene would be him waking up in the hospital, as dr hibbert says something and laughs
@@wren5685 May I remind you that a man is dead... Oh, wait, I just got it!
I think what I love most about this scene is that to Burns, Homer IS a child. Plus Homer finally getting recognized for something at work and clearly being proud of himself.
I can't remember Homer Simpson ever grabbing something high voltage because he was Homer Simpson🤣
@@raven4k998I don't think that Homer is dumb enough to touch extremely high voltages without safety gloves.

But that is the point.

For no real reason this just happens to be the first time Burns doesn't treat Homer like a complete nincompoop, and it pushes Grimes over the edge. That's life, I guess.
Coolidge Dollar it honestly seems like everyone was purposely trying to piss Grimes off in my opinion lol
Precisely -- very poor luck. When I first saw this episode at age 12, I felt extremely sad about Grimes, and now as a grown adult I realize that it was all just the writers deciding to have some fun and/or be jerks to the sensitive viewers ... all while making a profound point about real life, of course.
Ever heard of the old saying : there's a time and place for everything or the even better saying : work, rest and play which homer Simpson does where frank grimes didn't so Frank's meltdown was bound to happen anyway. That's what happens when think better than other people and take life too seriously and try to sabotage others especially after Karl and Lenny explained everyone makes mistakes - karma"s a bitch
Coolidge Dollar u copycat
He was like that for when homer gained 300 pounds
This was actually pretty smart of Homer. He copied the current plant with only minor modifications, knowing Mr. Burns wouldn't really want any major changes to the plant.
It’s more that Homer lacks imagination, but for absolutely no reason at all other than the plot demands it, Burns thinks his is the best anyway. 😅
@@kisbie I mean, in the episode where Homer wanted to be like Edison, he showcased his creativity. What his ideas usually lack is practicality, or thought behind it, or to follow OSHA regulations.

Well, he is the one who "pulls a Homer"
And also he is the safety consultant so it’s makes sense the place he works in ends up being one big death trap

Homer has the brain to not touch the wires.
This is the same place that just left sulfuric acid that was concentrated enough for one vial to completely burn through the wall just sitting there for Homer to accidentally almost drink.

@Boris Poetrevski Are you really buying into his Pangaea claim?
I watched this episode when it aired and the interesting thing about coming back to revisit it over time you realize how your own perception changes. At first Frank’s zany actions are comedic, then you empathize with him, but eventually you realize that he’s let bitterness really consume him to the point where he’s being adversarial to Homer, who’s tried being nothing but friendly to him.
In a sense Lenny and Carl’s support of Homer is like a mirror image of Grimes. Lenny and Carl even talk about how they’re credentialed (as Frank is) while Homer isn’t, but that doesn’t stop them from being friends.
while Grimes is right that Homer did sort of fall upwarts all his life, Grimes ignored the real reason to why.
Which is that Homer is nice and likeable.
People want Homer in their lives since he makes it better and wants to be everyones friend.
So, they want good things to happen to him.
While Grimes is all about work.
He has no friends, because he is too goal focused to let anyone in and get close to him.
Of course no one will give him a promotion, he is an ass to everyone.
I like to think that this realization is what broke him.
Everyone hated him and not Homer.
Love and friendship isn't earned accademically or at the work place.
He wasted his life doing something he hates alone, assuming that the sheer act of doing stuff you hate and nothing else means success.
While Homer was content by explicatly not doing that.
@@frankwest5388 This. Homer provides for his family and he's a great guy to have a beer with and hang out. Even those that Homer has hated over the years, such as Flanders, Homer still showed him humanity at Flanders lowest point. When Marges sisters were in trouble, he was enjoying it but immediately saved them when he saw Marge upset.
Frank Grimes had no such humanity. He died as he lived. Nothing but bitterness in his heart for all around him.
I think what really broke my heart for Homer trying to be Frank’s friend was that he actually invited him to dinner and Frank just lost it on him when he came to the house.
@@mariafox9226 Whats making that scene worse is that Homer and his family is really trying their best to show a sense of respect for Grimes with providing the best food they can have and even dress for the occasion. What Grimes didn’t understand is that Homer is a MASTER of subtle flattery. All Burns cares about is money. Martins design worked and would ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE, which is why Burns hated it. Homers was a replica of what works for Burns now, with added facade improvements that won’t take away from what they have now. Plus, Homers co workers love it because it wouldn’t eliminate their jobs, as Burns implied in the beginning.
Yeah in he’s mind was just room for “my life sucks” and “homer is a idiot” nothing more and nothing less what a waste of energy and life.
I remember when Grimes saves Homer from drinking acid, was outraged and found it unbelievable that Homer was laughing, and since comedy comes in threes: Burns was outraged and Grimes got blamed for it all for saving Homer’s mouth and throat and possibly life. No good deed goes unpunished.
Just proves life can suck and the world can be cruel.
That’s why God condemns those who call good evil and evil good.
Homer did feel bad about it and tried to patch things up, but that just made things worse. Ultimately, the trope went both ways.
@@pyromania1018 If Homer wanted to “patch things up” he should have taken responsibility and told Mr. Burns the truth.

I love how Homer recoiled when Grimey waved his unwashed hands in his face. Homer may be a slob, he may be stupid, byt even HE wouldn't return to work without washing his hands.
We had a team member have a breakdown once. He was a hard worker like the rest of us. We all got on well in and out of work. One day, out of the blue, he smashed his keyboard down, stood up and started screaming bad about every one of us. Yelling out all the things we wanted to improve but weren't allowed to in front of the boss. There was no warning about it. He was fine and then he wasn't. Obviously, he was fired on the spot. Didn't even take his stuff. The rest of us got a telling about procedures and why they are the way they are and why we won't be changing them.
3 months later ... procedures were changed to match the ones he'd been screaming about. Credit went to the office snitch who had "been thinking about it for a while"
I can identify way too much with that. While I'd never go the full route to actually smash stuff or scream at someone my previous workplace was quite similar - we were still working with internal tools written in Flash in 2020. 2 weeks ago I got my termination letter, even tho I was considered "one of the best that came in a few years" ... maybe I should have taken 20 minute trips to the vending machine, avoiding work watching netflix, putting in minimal effort by the scheme "at least I tried" and failing simple tasks like some of my former workmates.
I love how Lenny and Carl we're supportive of Homer. It's just shows that they have loyalty and loyalty is a great personality and characteristic trait for friendship. I felt that in my heart. 😍😎💯👍
yeah and Homer beat their brains out
*were
@1:39. I agree with Lenny, "Homer beat there brains out". On the surface Martin's Nuclear Plant is the most innovative and it appears he deserved it. But remember your dealing with Mr. Burns he lacks vision and doesn't see anything wrong with the current plant. So Homer gave Mr. Burns what he wanted, a copy of the current plant with some minor modifications. Trust me you'll encounter people like this in the real world, who lack innovation and depth then you have to deliver a bad product which they think is great, but you know much better (I'm a Software Engineer).
This is both disappointing and accurate. May God have mercy upon us all.
So thats the reason why the new gmail sucks? Because of innovation? Good luck Grimes ;)
Lots of people would kill to not spend some extra money. Simple modifications are often cheaper than large ones.
That's the problem with having the ability to just buy a business if you have the money. You can be a completely lacklustre boss in necessary departments, and yet, you have everyone's lives and jobs on your hands. There was a video a while back. 'I'll show them who is boss, arsenic and old lace', you might like it, Xavior. ruclips.net/video/BIbXOn5zjko/видео.html
SirXavior like I said. Grimes was martin’s model, highly efficient and a better model but cold sterile with no heart. Homer is the barely passable model that impressed with its simplicity.
Many great products have been invented but pitched to the wrong crowd. Look at green energy as a perfect example....

Frank Grimes made the mistake of blaming Homer for all his problems, when in fact it was Mr Burns who was responsible for most all the problems at the plant (including Homer).
Grines should have known he didn't have plot armor.
I think if Homer hadn’t been the one Frank Grimes would have ended up giving up. For all his troubled past and how he came over it he was defeated so easily and ended acting like a petulant child when the grass seemed greener on the other side. He was so particular as well, like it was almost like he wanted things his way or it wasn’t happening
Its kind of terrifying how many people are trying to justify Homer in this episode. Homer is destroying Grimes - eating his pencils, barging into his office, stealing his lunch, getting him in trouble with the boss and nearly sacked - and yet people *still* claim Grimes is unhinged.
It reminds me of the recent wave of schoolyard bullies who have grown up to basically claim that the people they bullied kind of deserved it for being so annoying and ugly
@@JarmamStuff well I mean, homer doesn't mean to ruin his life, in fact he tried to be friends with him, its just that he's an idiot, he even invited him to his house and grimes still got jealous and lashed out on homer, its just that it's a realistic man put in this cartoony world, grimes could have simply just ignored him, but the thing is grimes always expect good things to happen to hard working people, which is kinda a bad mindset because employers could just take advantage of that like burns just did

Grimes‘ hatred for Homer is understandable, but in the end, it’s his own spite and envy that gets him killed. His story is a good argument for letting others be successful, even if they didn’t earn it.
Actually he just got like 3 reason to be annoyed by homer but when homer try to do something nice to him he just became a repulsive man.

Grimey was so close. If he was Homer SIMPSON and not Homer SIMP, he would have survived.
Homer was just trying to be Frank's friend. Yeah, in some episodes Homer is an absolute prick, but here he was actually being sweet, and Grimes kept throwing it back in his face.
That's partly why I can't sympathise with 'Grimey' in this episode.
Exactly, homers still an idiot and most things he does do harm even when he doesn't intend to, but here he genuinely made effort (that says a lot given his usual character) to appeal to grimey, but you cant make peace with bitterness
You obviously didn't watch the episode, throwing Frank under the bus for the acid-hole in the wall when he literally saved Homer's life? That alone is unforgivable.
@@gooel I doubt that Homer would have been able to help with Mr Burns tbh.
I never understand why people say this particular episode was the one where Homer went to being a flat-out selfish jerk. To me, that was "Homer Simpson in Kidney Trouble" from Season 10. Here, this is another "Homer means well but screws up". If any, he didn't. Grimes in my opinion was in the wrong and caused his own demise. Should have left Homer alone and did his job instead of being hell bent on destroying him/getting him fired etc. Or at least be civil in rejecting Homer's friendship offer.

I can't help but crack up at any episode of a show that features a character going out of their way to humiliate the protagonist only to fail miserably and go completely insane at the end. This is a prime example.
frank grimes was his own worst enemy...
ISetYourFaceOnFire go fuck your self k buddy
Or STDs, Frank Grimes happened to love prostitutes
I come from Another realm that was his stress reliever
ISetYourFaceOnFire pretty much
or 'Grimy' as he liked to be called
Not even Homer would be stupid enough to touch something labeled “High voltage” with his bare hands
In the new seasons he probably does.......
The difference between Frank and Homer is that Homer has figured the system out.
"..added these fins to lower wind resistance" 🤣🤣🤣
The best line was when Grimey says 'I'm better than ok- I'm Homer Simpson' and Homer says 'Ha you wish'
Homer is completely un moved or doesn't comprehend Frank's extended mockery of him, and is simply concerned for Frank's well being... which just makes him madder!
Frank Grimes life ended as it began, as Frank Grimes.
This went totally over Grimes’ head. The entire plant knows Homer is slow and they try to lift him up whenever possible.
it is more so that they all seem completely oblivious to his stupidity. Grimes was the only one who could see things clearly, and it drove him insane.
@@allstarwatt7246 he was blinded by his jealousy and bitterness tho
I love how Ralph is so slow he literally needs his Dad to tell him to get off the stage even after Mr. Burns already told him to.
When you are in a show/movie and isn’t a main character and you finally see the plot armor.
Smithers loving the doll house is overlooked 😂
"I can be lazy, too!"
How many times have I said that while driving to work during 2020 🙄
I think its cute that Wiggum calls Ralph Sweetheart hahaha
