Cutting the "it's raining again" gag is criminal. It's what ties the whole scene together.
It's a good line, but nowhere near as bad as Barnie's "ah! Now there's the inflated sense of self esteem"

One of the funniest moments in that episode. The idea that Homer builds a time machine from a broken toaster, travels back in time and steps on a mosquito, and then, he's having to travel back and forth through time to fix the mistakes he made over and over again. The best part is the moment he finds a perfect universe, one that has his sisters-in-law dead, he lives in a mansion, his kids are well behaved, but he's faced with the idea that there's no donuts. If only he waited just a little while longer to see that it started raining donuts....
All in all, it's just really terrible timing.
I just got on here to say the same thing! They took the punchline out!! Like how sometimes Disneys crop cuts in on jokes

Nah, I'm from Finland and I remember the case referenced numerous times in different outlets in the 90s and it was a big deal back then and probably even more so in the 80s. I remember watching some movie about it as well or a similar story at least. A sad story and R.I.P. to the little feller either way.

I love how when Homer's eyes narrow at Burns's note, his kids look petrified! Every Dad has that snapping moment and calmly asks his family to leave for a moment 😂

Springfield is a character in this story just as much as the Simpsons are. The series could switch focus to Flanders or Nelson. Allow some other characters be the main would reignite this show. The City of Springfield as Nelson experiences would be entertaining.
The 22 Short Films episode was a surrogate pilot for a spin-off series where the focus would widen out to Springfield as a whole. For some reason we didn’t get that, but we did get The Cleveland Show.
