I want them to keep the difficulty of that fight for the next legends game, im completely fine with this side series being more difficult than main line games
The Moveset for both phases of Giratina are Aura Sphere, Earth Power, Dragon Claw and Shadow Force. Get yourself a special wall that doesn't get super effected by the STABs and it's honestly not that difficult. Blissey, Togekiss, Sylveon, Umbreon, Mantine, Snorlax can all be bulky enough to take lots of hits, so you have time to gain back the momentum. The first 4 also get access to Calm Mind, which is pretty op considering it's an Omniboost without speed in Legends Arceus(same goes for Bulk Up).
Why a special wall? It's two best moves are physical moves. Go with a flying type that has great physical defense instead, like Gliscor. It's immune to Earth Power and resists Aura Sphere, and can take several Shadow Forces or Dragon Claws. Plus it gets around Giratina's increased evasion if you use Aerial Ace, and it's STAB on Gliscor.
All of those bar Togekiss and Umbreon have ass physical defense, and Toge is not a physical wall by any means, while umbreon is hit super effectively by aura sphere.
Also, Calm Mind is only so-so against Giratina, since it only lasts 2-3 turns. Regardless of the level of your pokemon, this Giratina fight is going to last at least 7 or 8 turns, so Calm Mind will only be up for a fraction of the fight. Blissey dies to just one of Giratina's Dragon Claws, Togekiss, Mantine and Sylveon get wrecked by Shadow Force, and Umbreon and Snorlax will definitely die to an Aura Sphere. Any special wall in the game gets destroyed by either Shadow Force or Dragon Claw.
Alpharad: [defeats altered Giratina] ...and just like that, the world is saved! Giratina: [changes into origin form] Alpharad: No, no. I was wrong... The world's not saved
This is what makes Giratina's form the best. It is a direct power up, looks amazing, and perfectly fits with the lore as Giratina's origin form doubles as a connection to the devil (serpent in the garden of Eden) and betrayal of God (Arceus) Shame the other origin forms didn't follow suit with the trinity
"GIRATINA, STRIKE THEM DOWN!" The God of the Distortion World is not happy. I loved this fight. The way Giratina flatlines, the steady heartbeat picking back up, and then the piercing gaze. I also love how somewhere in the past, someone's ancestor felled a god. Love Pokemon.
I had to beat the giratina with only a deciduye cause I had no revives and I got through both stages with it deciduye now holds an even more special place in my heart. ❤️
When i fought Volo i was already nervous, my team was at 60, and i already predicted that he was gonna be tough because in the early game he had already a Gible and Togepi, but then the Cynthia theme played and i started shaking, it took me a long time to defeat him and when Giratina came i had to take a rest because i was already tired enough
When I did this fight, my main two players were my event Arceus and a Giratina from Platinum. I barely pulled through as I kept having to revive them, and wanted to end it with Arceus. After just barely defeating Giratina, I then was surprised to realize there was the second form. Not wanting to lose for the first time, I kept on, and my Arceus got annihilated. In the end, my Giratina defeated this one in a climatic final move. It wasn’t how I wanted to end it, but it was amazing regardless.
This was so hard. I went in underleveled by 1 level, and it took me about 30 attemps. I hate Volo now. But when I heard Giratina’s theme start playing the first time, well… Chills. Absolute Chills.
Man, Legends Arceus will always be one of my favorite Pokémon games because of this. Incredibly difficult fight first hitting you with the Cynthia piano, then Giratina's theme coming in with the flatline before it transforms- that stuff is *raw*
My favorite part about this fight is that Giratina *genuinely* seems to pass out here, and then through what I can only assume is the power of spite, revives itself.
I beat this fight with a fully under leveled team including a level 69 Happiny. Took me 2 days to nail the strategy down but that victory was hands down the best moment I’ve ever had in the Pokémon series
I remember thinking that Evice was a big cheater in Pokemon XD for using seven Pokemon (Shadow Lugia+a team of six). If you count Giratina's forms separately, Volo uses EIGHT, and this time you don't have a Master Ball.
Yo I'm impressed that you got to phase 3 with level 64s. I only got to phase 3 after reworking my team of level 75+ pokemon and still lost the first time lmao
@@PlumbumJelly I did it with a level 64 Samurott, 62 Zoroark, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, and a level 70 Alpha Gardevoir that I went out and caught specifically for the Spiritomb. Was a very difficult fight but honestly super fun strategizing how to beat him (also didn’t use any grit items/battle items)
Levels don't really matter all that much in this game, unless it's an overwhelming difference. The stat growth curve is way flatter than in past games so the difference between levels isn't as big That's also what makes stat boosting moves so good though, they do what levels don't. Calm Mind and Bulk Up allow you to tear Volo a new one... ...Maybe not Giratina, though-
@@PlumbumJelly I had level 70 typhlosion, sylveon, walrein, a level 80 alpha garchomp, palkia and dialga and still couldn't beat Volo and Giratina until my third attempt when I swapped out my walrein for a level 70 alpha alakazam, this fight was difficult but I hope GF and the Pokemon Company does this again
My heart dropped when this happened to me. I forgot Giratina had a second form in the original games so I was sure that there was about to be a frenzy-type battle with some eldritch abomination in the same vein as Palkia and Dialga (not to mention that I only had 3 pokemon to fight with, like some kind of moron)
Honestly I think Pokemon was only holding itself back by having ALL the adversaries that the player face adhere to the same rules as them in battle up until this era. The player has infinite prep time, inventory and unlimited retries. LET YOUR BOSSES "CHEAT" its *OKAY* thats what they're SUPPOSED to do. Thats literally what every other competent RPG series does when the stakes need to be raised. Even dumb children can adapt.
It always surprises me when people say they struggled on this fight because I went in 100% unprepared for the battle with two of my Pokemon half dead and only a few healing items (no revives) and I won with two Pokemon left. It was ABSOLUTELY nerve wracking though, most stress inducing Pokemon fight in years.
I feel the same, it's weird seeing guides and videos with strategies to win when I beat it on the first try. I only had 5 Pokemon in my team and two of them were only there for exp. Ended up being good stallers to let me revive a lot though lol. Gardevoir really came in clutch for me with the ice beam, couldn't have done this fight without her honestly. I will admit though that throughout the fight I was remembering times when I was a kid and had challenging fights against the elite four. I really wish we could do this fight again... I'd love to try it with a proper team and maybe even with Volo getting higher level Pokemon.
@@loganc.2824 that's probably why you didn't struggle, you were overleveled. i'm guessing most people were underleveled or just barely at 70 and they didn't have a level 85 pokemon. myself, my team was in the lower to mid sixties, and the small move selection wasn't in my favor. my rng also sucked because volo crit and hit every move. when i watch people play, volo misses like 10 attacks, and giratina misses 2. good fight though i honestly had so much fun getting my ass beat.
@@esdeathlove1478 I did it with a lvl 75 garchomp and a low 60s spiritomb. Both could take a few hits and Garchomp fainted once in the course of as she was out 90% of the ime. The other 4 were all around lvl 20 as I was levelling and got bored and did the post-game So my question to everyone is this: Did you actually take advantage of the games systems. EV items and Styles are both new systems and consistently I see people mostly only using the second.
I thought you were meant to catch the giratina, so I was being careful, then it turned into the next form and I thought you were meant to catch that, so I started being careful again. If I knew you could just obliterate them it would've been way easier, but not knowing that made this the hardest battle by far. Especially because you had the first 6 Mon battle in the game right beforehand, which without spoiling too much was basically the equivalent of a champion battle. And also no healing between any of this. And also the first time I had 2 eevees that I was raising the friendship of because I thought it would be a simple case of just catching the giratina with the unusually high catch rate.
This took me one try, but i was prepared, won on my first try but only one of my Pokemon was still alive, Togekiss. The Volo Fight was ok, but Giratina, Geez. I was caught offguard since when i started the fight with Giratina, i sent out my Dialga instead of my Garchomp, which Giratina proceeded to One-Shot with Shadow Force, which was lvl 70
I love to always see the reactions because no one thinks Pokemon would ever pull out the stops
Was terrifying for me, Volo took a lot of tries, then Altered form a few more, and then Origin came.

The way Giratina tilts its head back, the slow motion seconds, followed by the sudden red glint in the eye accompanied by the guitar.....
Alpharad: [defeats altered Giratina] ...and just like that, the world is saved!
Giratina: [changes into origin form]
Alpharad: No, no. I was wrong... The world's not saved
Giratina pulling off a "Fool, this isn't even my final form"
Yeah you can tell the moment the danger has REALLY kicked in when the starting synth drop of the Distortion World theme rolls up
To be fair, it's perfectly timed for you to trash talk, before Giratina's eyes flash and all your hope leaves.
The genuine WAT gets me
This is what makes Giratina's form the best. It is a direct power up, looks amazing, and perfectly fits with the lore as Giratina's origin form doubles as a connection to the devil (serpent in the garden of Eden) and betrayal of God (Arceus)
Shame the other origin forms didn't follow suit with the trinity
That's because the trio are based off of Shinto beliefs, not Judeo-Christian...
The “WHAT?!” was perfect
Bruh, his eyes lighting up and then the music starts to rev up. It’s so good
I love how battles in this game go from zero to 100 very quickly
Sinnoh may be the land of the pianos, but I'm convinced that Giratina introduced guitar riffs to the Pokemon World after this.
Now these are the kind of surprises the pokemon games need
Ribbon: Wants to go twice
Giratina:So you have chosen, death
Dude this was IMO one of the most perfect boss fights in gaming history.
No one expecting it while it was still hinted at.
Finally
8 Pokémon trainer battle
WITH EVASION JANK
With two legendaries and one pseudo legendary.
XD i love how he immedetly got bamboosled when giratina's eyes went red and he immedetly started to panic
I absolutely love the red eyes as it transforms
Giratina: YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEATEN ME, BUT THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!!
I had to beat the giratina with only a deciduye cause I had no revives and I got through both stages with it deciduye now holds an even more special place in my heart. ❤️
This belongs in a "Cut aways before disaster" comp
These reactions will never get old
“What if I placed my Minecraft bed next to yours”
“Haha just kidding”
_eyes flash red, head whips back up_
*”Unless…”*
When i fought Volo i was already nervous, my team was at 60, and i already predicted that he was gonna be tough because in the early game he had already a Gible and Togepi, but then the Cynthia theme played and i started shaking, it took me a long time to defeat him and when Giratina came i had to take a rest because i was already tired enough
When the Devil says, “YOU CANT KILL MORTAL!!!!!”
The amount of shock you hear of his voice truly shows that Pokémon legends Arceus is something different.
This battle just came down to spamming max potions on my Goodra, since I was not expecting an actual battle.
Goodra actually carried my ass so hard during this battle lmao. I nearly ran out of Shelter PP by the end of it
the “WHAT” gets me every time
This was so hard. I went in underleveled by 1 level, and it took me about 30 attemps. I hate Volo now.
But when I heard Giratina’s theme start playing the first time, well…
Chills.
Absolute Chills.
Man, Legends Arceus will always be one of my favorite Pokémon games because of this. Incredibly difficult fight first hitting you with the Cynthia piano, then Giratina's theme coming in with the flatline before it transforms- that stuff is *raw*
I believe giratina had the wild might bonus (+50% all stats),
On top of the spammable priority move that boosts evasion.
The theme fits so hard the moment giratina goes on phase 2
We all did..
Uh... What beef does mini Chansey have against the deity of the Distortion World?
My face when a new phase is actually surprising for once
I remember thinking that Evice was a big cheater in Pokemon XD for using seven Pokemon (Shadow Lugia+a team of six). If you count Giratina's forms separately, Volo uses EIGHT, and this time you don't have a Master Ball.
This time you can’t even throw a pokeball, you HAVE to fight to kill, capture is not an option
But Evice was Colosseum, not XD. Greevil was the villain in the latter.
@@Amo-v27 I realized that a few days after I posted the comment, but was too lazy to go back and change it
Legitimately just a really stressful fight.
Honestly, if you didnt react like that when Giratina did the woke eyes meme and then transformed, than you knew what was coming beforehand
The amount of twists in this fight is comical, starts off with Cynthia’s iconic theme, then he brings out giratina, AND THEN A SECOND PHASE
My reaction
Except imagine being lvl 64
The stat growth curve is way flatter than in past games so the difference between levels isn't as big
That's also what makes stat boosting moves so good though, they do what levels don't. Calm Mind and Bulk Up allow you to tear Volo a new one...
...Maybe not Giratina, though-
@@PlumbumJelly I had level 70 typhlosion, sylveon, walrein, a level 80 alpha garchomp, palkia and dialga and still couldn't beat Volo and Giratina until my third attempt when I swapped out my walrein for a level 70 alpha alakazam, this fight was difficult but I hope GF and the Pokemon Company does this again
this 3 wave battle was harder than Cynthia
My heart dropped when this happened to me. I forgot Giratina had a second form in the original games so I was sure that there was about to be a frenzy-type battle with some eldritch abomination in the same vein as Palkia and Dialga (not to mention that I only had 3 pokemon to fight with, like some kind of moron)
Lmaooooooooo
Giratina: *"Welcome to phase 2"*
I think in all honesty we all forgot he has a 2nd form and in this game we had little pokemon trainer battles, So ergo this catches everyone offguard
yfw, in a way, it DID have Sturdy, but this time you didn't want it to
Honestly I think Pokemon was only holding itself back by having ALL the adversaries that the player face adhere to the same rules as them in battle up until this era.
The player has infinite prep time, inventory and unlimited retries. LET YOUR BOSSES "CHEAT" its *OKAY* thats what they're SUPPOSED to do. Thats literally what every other competent RPG series does when the stakes need to be raised. Even dumb children can adapt.
I love how alpharad called himself alpharad in a third person
@@megunide519 For sure, my heart was beating the whole time. My over leveled alpha Garchomp was the MVP, without him I would’ve gotten clobbered.
The other 4 were all around lvl 20 as I was levelling and got bored and did the post-game
So my question to everyone is this: Did you actually take advantage of the games systems. EV items and Styles are both new systems and consistently I see people mostly only using the second.
Such a surprise phase though
I thought you were meant to catch the giratina, so I was being careful, then it turned into the next form and I thought you were meant to catch that, so I started being careful again. If I knew you could just obliterate them it would've been way easier, but not knowing that made this the hardest battle by far. Especially because you had the first 6 Mon battle in the game right beforehand, which without spoiling too much was basically the equivalent of a champion battle. And also no healing between any of this. And also the first time I had 2 eevees that I was raising the friendship of because I thought it would be a simple case of just catching the giratina with the unusually high catch rate.
I fought so hard to defeat Giratina THEN HE JUST TRANSFORMS I quit the game for a solid Y E A R
This took me one try, but i was prepared, won on my first try but only one of my Pokemon was still alive, Togekiss. The Volo Fight was ok, but Giratina, Geez. I was caught offguard since when i started the fight with Giratina, i sent out my Dialga instead of my Garchomp, which Giratina proceeded to One-Shot with Shadow Force, which was lvl 70
the music becoming calm and then having a stronger tone with the giratina's transformation caught me off guard
