It’s actually pretty scary to consider. Volo’s words as he is defeated, would be carried out to become Cynthia’s past time in researching Sinnoh Mythology. But what makes Cynthia different however is possibly her upbringing that led her direction more benevolent. Where Cyrus on the other hand didn’t go so well. Cyllene is strict yet is kind, but that kindness most likely became lost over the years, which driven Cyrus down the path that Volo sought after. Both Cynthia and Cyrus are kinda like a mirror, I never would have thought that in a way their ideals from their ancestors would swap and clash.
not to mention they aren't direct relatives, this is many generations before modern sinnoh characters, each generation would have more and more differing personalitys
Posting this again: Volo might be the villain in PLA but he has been a big indirect help in the Giratina incident in Platinum. Volo might passed his knowledge about Giratina on his descendants. That's why Cynthia is the only character in a mainline games who called Giratina by its name which basically like a forbidden knowledge and that's why her familiarity with the Distortion World is questionable. She leads you in the portal showing you the way straight to Giratina. She even tells you that it wants to 'fight'. It feels like if it wasn't for Volo's knowledge, the world might be destroyed in Pokemon Platinum and how ironic because that's basically what he wanted.
@CJ Dinoy in addition giratina himself actually lets go of his rage and actually starts to protect the world from destruction wich i find really intresting, giratina got charecter development.
@@BlackKyurem5 Yes, you're kinda right. She researches for the information, the main question is how she is able to know about Giratina? It's kinda weird that there no other archeologists who discover it first and they are ignorant about the existence of the hidden third member of creation trio. She is the first, I guess. I still believe that she have the advantage due to their bloodline of lorekeepers. Also, Cyrus knows a lot of Sinnoh myths and did a lot of research yet he doesn't know the name of Giratina, he just calls it a shadow pokemon.
Imagine how heart breaking this is for the main character, after getting banished he immediately comes to your aid. Sure others offered help too, but Volo didn't even hesitate or think of anything else other than helping us. Just for this to happen
Let’s be honest: All of us expected something to happen with Volo. Cynthia’s ancestor being portrayed as something as simple as a merchant man was definitely suspicious.
@@rodoshehossain7400 It's so funny to me because most npcs in pokemon games are like overly friendly but something about him I noticed after a while is that he seemed off at times. It's been a while but Cynthia I remember being more sincere and not too pushy.
This makes me wonder now...Giovanni, Archie, Maxie, Ghetetis, Lysandre, Guzma, Lusimane and the Chairmen were probably the good guys in the past while Lance, Steven Stone, Alder, Leon, and Blue could have been evil.

I hope Soichiro Hoshi or Robbie Daymond does not voiced Volo if he ever makes an appearance in the anime. They both voiced Goro Akechi from Persona 5 in their respective languages.
Cynthia and cyrus are both sides of the same coin. They were made to be the opposites of each other that is why this was not unexpected but the way volo and cyline were interduced were.

I love how there's this intense scene where Volo asks if you had a dream as well, and then it gets undercut by "You got the Spooky Plate!" Which is the funniest thing ever. Imagine if the Devil gave you an item of infinite power and it was called the "Funky Plate"
It was an AWFUL switch, honestly. Like oh yes, instead of letting your Pokemon with a base Speed stat of like 30 get a hit in before dying, swap it out so that it'll be completely useless for the rest of the battle!
I mean after seeng Cynthia swap from Lucario into Togekiss during her second Rematch in BDSP after I attacked Lucario with Earthquake I honestly am not supprised to see the A.I. switch around.
@@magmarman2633 You'd have a point if switching and speed worked the same in this game as it did in others. He swapped in Roserade and attacked in the same turn, and when Spiritomb came back out, it attacked in the same turn. Basically, swapping rarely counts as a turn and speed barely has an effect on turn order (only really notice it if the opponent is double or half your speed).
So after witnessing Volo’s same thirst for wanting to meet Arceus from the shadows, Giratina finally emerges after you believe you’ve secure your victory. Proceeds to then battle you and when you think you’re done you only enrage him even more to where he powers up to his Origin Form. A 20/10 experience indeed
"No matter how many years, how many decades, how many centuries it takes me!" He's probably being hyperbolic, but imagine how cool it'd be to find Volo in the modern era, dude would be an acient battle master with even more op pokémon and knowledge of a lot more Immortality is already a thing as seen with AZ, imagine if Volo tapped into that
With Celebi, it wouldn't be farfetched for Volo to end up in the present as a major threat to life in general on par with Lysandre. Bonus points if you get to fight him and, true to him being a PG-rated expy of Seymour Guado from FFX, use GIRATINA against him ("You would oppose me as well? So be it").
I think it's more of a "Chosen One" type of deal? Like Giratina itself grants the bloodline strength, to become the strongest, to learn more about the history of the land. But why? Why does it want so badly for someone to understand why it rebelled? And why does it appear so strongly to those who wants to remake the universe? Is that the "incredible violence" it committed, trying to destroy reality as we know it, so it was banished to Unreality, where it's original form was warped into it's Altered Form? And it's Origin Form is technically the same as Dialga and Palkia's "Altered Form" (the ones we catch in DPPT/BDSP)? Does Giratina wants reality to end?
@@matthewwilliams8267 he wanted it at the start due to his anger twards arceus, he most likeley destroyed everyting once while creating anti matter then he got banished and swore to destroy the universe in his fury twards arceus for imprisoning him for what from giratinas perspective was litteraly no reason at all since all he did was make the only thing he knew how. Than later on in the platinum games giratina actively stops the destruction of the world and kidnaps cyrus. This shows that giratina at one point wanted to destroy the universe in anger but realized his error and litteraly did a 180 becoming a guardian to the universe. Giratina got best character development ive seen in a pokemon game to date.
What I love about the Volo battle, apart from the villain plot twist, is that its completely expected, but once the music starts it's like "Wait wait wait wait wait that's- you can't do that"
8:03 Giratina walking slowly forward while you were selecting your Spiritomb's attack is pretty scary. Especially when it takes the Dark Pulse to the face and transforms into Origin
Here's my take on why Giratina helped Volo: We know that Giratina was banished for its violence, but his position as the Pokemon of Anti-Matter suggests he was really creating Anti-Matter, thinking it was his purpose, but it was destroying what Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia were creating, as such Giratina was banished, this likely greatly confused Giratina which led him to becoming enraged, hence why he was helping Volo, either that or it is possible that the whole "siding with Volo" thing was actually a test to see if the Protagonist was worthy of facing Arceus, since catching him is necessary in order to challenge Arceus.
I think both if your takes are correct especially since later on giratina becomes a sort of guardian who guards the world from destruction, stopping cyrus in his attempts.
If I recall correctly, according to one of Cynthia's theories, Giratina was never actually banished--it was sent to the Distortion World to keep the balance between the two worlds, as it does in the Shaymin movie. It was it's main purpose and it does it as it was intended
@@mykittystinksbad2 Genderless or Gender Unknown, as Bulbapedia puts it, Pokemon can still use masculine/feminine pronouns depending on how characters see them. Jirachi was referred to as a male in Mystery Dungeon for example
So that's why Cynthia got Giratina in Pokemon Masters. It was all foreshadowing for this! Heck, maybe Giratina joined her because Volo was her ancestor!
Giratina might have also seen that despite the simmilarities volo and cynthia are diffrent, with cynthia being a straight up good person wich combined with the fact that giratina himself seems to have let go of his anger at arceus made him join up with cynthia.
Before the game came out, I thought Cynthia having Giratina was a reference to her major role in Platinum. After Legends came out and seeing Volo using Giratina makes lot of sense now. So Masters predicts that Cynthia's ancestor had Giratina, is very interesting.
I can’t express enough how happy I was that my team wasn’t healed going into that Giratina fight. Felt like an actual challenge and made me really think. Last time I truly thought and didn’t win with ease in a story battle was B2W2 Champion Iris.
Also Volo's ingame theme has a similar structure to Arceus: opening melody, then a long pause, then the rest of the melody comes in with more and more instruments until it loops
The generic legendary theme is already tense, but merging it with Giratina’s theme in that transition with that beautiful shadow force animation is truly nightmare inducing

I've never held more respect for a Yanmega in my life. The rest of my team (Goodra, Braviary, Typhlosion and Overqwil) were taken out by Volo's team. Giratina then destroys my Tangrowth, and I was out of revives at this point. It was one murder dragonfly versus the being of Antimatter. Yanmega manages to land a crunch, an air slash and a second crunch, taking out Giratina's first form. Then the second form starts. Giratina lands an attack, but Yanmega survives on low HP. Then, I use crunch. I had one shot left before he kills me, so I tried a Strong Style crunch, which probably still wouldn't be enough. My murder dragonfly critted.

@@magmarman2633
You'd have a point if switching and speed worked the same in this game as it did in others.
LMAO NOT GIRATINA BEING THE FAMILY PET TO THE CYNTHIA FAM THO

8:03 Giratina walking slowly forward while you were selecting your Spiritomb's attack is pretty scary. Especially when it takes the Dark Pulse to the face and transforms into Origin
Bwaahh

5:39 Even after defeating the last pokemon, there is no "Battle Decided" graphic like all other battles. Very subtle way to let us know the fight wasn't over yet.
Damn I love Volo's facial expressions, especially when Giratina appeared
Holy moly. That giratina fight was everything!!!
I'm so glad this game has something difficult enough to be considered a Superboss. This fight is great
Tbh, I wish there were Legends: Arceus references in BDSP. Cynthia mentioning Volo would've been sick.
Also, am I the only one who thinks this would work well with voice acting
they added extra stuff into the canalave library to help with quests in this game, but cynthia referencing volo would’ve been so cool!
6:48 I feel like this is the ultimate moment of betrayal. It is one thing for him to admit that he was the one tearing open the space-time rift, recklessly trying to meet Arceus and therefore wanting to fight you in order to take the plates from you. But here, he literally orders Giratina to kill you - I‘ve never felt so menaced and vulnerable in a Pokémon game. This whole scene is so well-crafted, the expressions on Volo‘s face, as well as your character‘s, are so well done. I love how your eyes shift from Giratina to Volo ever so briefly, dismissing him yet being wary of his next move, before finally taking on Giratina.
The roles really did a switch there!
That's reason why Cynthia has Girantina in Pokemon Masters EX, it references to Legends Arceus
It’s a foreshadowing, and Giratina did have conn to her though Volo.
The animation moves are sooo clean and new. I was afraid it’ll be repetitive but is not !!
With the delightful animations in this fight, and seeing every little details forshadowing Volo's betrail. It makes me think that the game itself was specificaly created and tailored for this whole battle.
No shit Sherlock jk
Honestly if everything from this game and this boss fight is an indication of where the pokemon series is going to in the future then I’m 100% all for it
6:13 Volo is directly looking at the camera. I think he is talking to us, not Rei/Akari
I feel like Volo is kinda similar to Zinnia in a sense. Aside from her never trying to replace the Hoenn region with a new world, ofc
Zinnia was being a jerk, but at least she was actually trying to SAVE the world. This dude was gonna destroy it!
@@darkraiknight386 honestly zinnia didn't trust the scientists and steven as they had little imagination about how the dimensional portal would work so i side with her as if it wasn't for her they would probably have committed dimensional genocide
@@luisfillipebeserra2108 yeah but she also doomed her own world. if it wasn't for the meteorite that team magma/aqua gave you, deoxys couldn't have been stopped.
I love how Rei looked worried at the end.
6:57
I think this moment was the closest I’ve been to being terrified in a Pokemon game. Hats off to the animators because that brief frame of Volo’s unhinged expression legit gave me goosebumps.
Ok but genuinely would have loved to hear voice acting for "Don't you feel the chill creeping through your veins? The eldritch presence icing your heart?" Shits fuckin raw
volo is both the first and last trainer you fight.
No wonder Cynthia's new sync partner in Pokemon Masters was Giratina, the devs was foreshadowing the whole time for PLA
when the piano of the theme started i just panicked.
interesting turn of ancestors
Gotta love Volo every time he nods when swapping Pokémon, and that shoulder shrug when making commands.
Can we just talk about how hot his pitch was?? XD I've never seen a Pokéball throw look so refined lolol.
You know shits about to go down when A more menacing version of Cynthia’s Encounter theme plays in the beginning of a boss fight.
Volo, the first villain to use a Lucario and a Togekiss.
And a Togepi of all Pokemon
Considering Lusamine, not only non villain can use cute Pokémon.
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 but lusamine is a women so it's pretty understandable but why the heck does this evil man trained a cute togepi?
@@WheelStart togekiss is a menace, moonblast being added to its movepool just made it more threatening
