You were right. After not getting into a graduate school program, I watched your video, followed your suggestions and was recently admitted into another graduate school program. Thank you for making this video. -Shontae Ivey
Oh my god, The way u share vital info with enthusiasm, I just felt I was speaking to one of my friend. Thank u so much and for sure gonna implement it.
I'm a little nervous and overwhelmed about writing SOP's. I hope I get into the schools I apply for fall 2023 with Dr Ann's advice. Fingers crossed! Update: I got unconditional offers to the following universities - Loughborough University University of Reading University of Leicester Aston University University of Surrey I am so grateful Dr Ann!!! Thank you so much!
Ok.... That should be in paragraph 3. I watched the first video on how to write a statement of purpose and it was so rich. Thank you for emphasizing on this one point.
This is so timely, I just completed my statement of purpose and have been thinking whether or not to edit because I didn't mention the faculty member I want to work with. Also thank you for spotlighting on the importance of applying to where you fit. I got a school in Canada but I'm reluctant to apply because the lecture I won't to work with is not taking new student. Its a daunting process honestly, but I feel I should write him to see if he might give me a chance or maybe I should look for opportunity else where.
Thanks sooo much Prof, for the time and sacrifices you make to help us succeed. Still looking forward to your video on "how to search professors with funding". Love you. ❤
Thank you for your kind words. This Chanel is a labor of love for sure. I filmed that video a while ago and lost the file. Will put this on my todo list.
What kind of a prof bullies an old woman because of who she chooses to vote for? A bigoted loser who lives in a foreign land and causes chaos in her homeland. Terrible!
Hey, Dr. Ann! Thanks so much for your videos. Your tips certainly helped when I was working on my MSSc applications. I did found a professor who I share similar research interest with, and included them in my SOP. Just got admitted to one of the top universities in Sweden.
I love your videos. I’m writing my personal statement for graduate school, and you are helping me a lot. I’m also an immigrant living in California. 😘😘😘😘
Dear Ann I'm a Mechanical Engineer student today I saw 2 of your videos and I just fall in love in how sweet how energetic you are and believe me I wished I was a student in your field to work with you do research because it sounds awesome and fun to Cooperate with you. I wish you the best
God will continue to bless you and i will surely come back to appreciate you once this whole Journey becomes successful for me. My question is how can I know what research is going on in the department?
To everyone watching this video, I purchased Dr. Ann's review for my SOP, and it was life-changing + it saved me from the stress and pressure of writing an SOP by myself. She improved my ideas, turning my essay into a competitive SOP for Drama School. I'm super grateful. I just want you to know that you must click on the link above.
Hi Ann, hope you're well! Quick question: if we are not in a health field or a field that does research per se, is it okay to not include a professor's name? I am mid-application for a MS in Analytics, and I'm unable to find anything on professors for the program doing "research". The program is basically to expand our understanding of programming languages and statistical skills to prepare us as data analysts/scientists. I'm planning to mention a few of the classes/descriptions by name instead. Is this a mistake? Thank you!
Its good to mention the classes by name. Perhaps you can also search up the class professors names on rate my professor, etc. or you can also look for more info online from the chair or admissions webinars
Hi!! I'm applying to 6 programs for my Ph.D. in Anthropology. I've been following Dr. Ann's advice and will submit my applications this upcoming week! I will update this whenever I get a reply, fingers crossed!🥲🙏
Hey Ann! These videos of yours have been so helpful to me as I tackle this. What advice would you give for someone applying to programs that are completely remote and basically prerecorded and uploaded to coursera or something like that? There are a lot more of these types of programs now, and they don't really feature any interaction with faculty or research within the department or thesis. How would someone tackle talking about the department in cases like these?
Hi Dr. Amuda i have questions to ask. So for example I'm trying to get this application in this Italian university. I wanna know what are the interests that this university has in my profession. How can I find out that?
Thank you so much Professor. I have been following your videos, and they are very helpful. Should a personal statement also include what you said in this video, or should a personal statement be just about your past and present experiences that have shaped you for the course of interest?
What about is your program does not focus on research 🥴 instead is very practicum. In the program I am going to apply they don't request to do a research in order to get the máster degree. Instead a number of ours doing intership. Btw the program is a EDM in counseling. Will it be okay to focus on other qualities of the program instead of mentioning a specific professor?
Hello Professor Ann! Please ma'am, in writing my C.V, is it right for me to use my research project experiences in undergraduate and graduate school under Research Experience section?
Thanks for the tip. I am concerned with climate change and my dream school. And my research interests is in the science and policy of climate change. Do I have to write my thesis because I don't have any right now.
what if you're not applying to a research based department but going for a professional masters say finance or business analytics. Do you still need to mention a professor
I watched your previous video on writing your SOP. It helped, and I got accepted to the schools applied to. I accepted both due to deadlines. One program has been really pushing me to complete the process. I felt pressure and accepted. However, now the other school has reached out and ready for me to start with them. I think I want the second school. Can I back out of the first?
Dr. Ann I have a BSc in engineering and I want to study master of architecture and from I have noticed, I realised that the master of Architecture program hasn’t really got research topics like MSc architecture and in this case what do I do?
Thank you so much Professor Anne. Your videos have been really helpful to me. I’ll love to know. If one has an outstanding GRE score, is it right to include it in the SOP?
Thank you so much Dr Anne. My question: Can one reach out to more than one faculty in the same department that have similar/ related areas of interest or is that bad??
Hi! I am lawyer from Venezuela trying to get into an LLM in the USA. I have no one to ask for feedback in regards to my statement of purpose. If I could send it to you, so you could review it, it would mean the world to me.
Hey Maam, I am willing to apply for fall 2023 for my Master's program. When I was doing my research, I found some universities asked for a Personal Statement( PS) alongside a Statement of Purpose. What exactly should be talked about on PS provided that SOP being academic? Also, is the diversity essay somewhat similar to the PS? And how much weightage does the GRE hold if the university has waived it off or made it optional?
Hi! I’m hoping that someone will kindly answer this. I find that I am having a problem understanding if an SOP is the same as answering those essay questions as part of the admission(like why this school or program and how this program will help you achiever your long term and short term goals) Is this the same? Because in all the unis I plan to apply to none has talked of writing an SOP but they rather essays that need to be answered I will appreciate anybody’s answer. Thank you!
Well, I see the same issue but I think, it's more or less the same. Nowadays, many universities just ask for a shorter version of SOP/essays (around 250 words) but with VERY specific questions. As far as I know, they still call it "Statement Of Purpose" though, but specific SOP. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse haha, but honestly, I am just trying to see the bright side of it, which is "writing less, less bullshit, & make sure to ANSWER the question in your writing". I think it should be beneficial for us who has a lot to offer to the university BUT are not very good at writing. Maybe they are starting to realize that not everybody is a good 1000 words story-telling writer, haha. Idk... One university might ask for 3 different essays with 3 different questions. Just gotta try our best & make sure to answer the question. Well, I am no expert, but I hope my answer helps you. I am just somebody who is currently going through the same thing. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck :)
Is it only for PhD students to mention the professor? Or students applying for graduate programs such as Master need to mention professors as well? Please reply asap I shall be very thankful to you. I am about to send my SOP in couple of days.
hey maam, I do wanna know though, sometimes in the FAQs section, the department would prompt that mentioning faculty is not mandatory, is it still a good idea to mention professors and their research of interest in the Statement?
it's surprised that your videos seems didn’t get much attention, people should really focus on the suggestions from some faculty inside the admission process. One questions, for master, if you state you want to work with some professors, does the committee will give your application to that professor? What if that professor doesn’t want to work with you? Thank you
