The 75 year old man was trying to return a police helmet he found. And the mayor said he sustained 'lacerations'. Bleeding from your ear after falling is not a laceration!! But if you see the rest of the video, everyone leaves him there and apprehends one other peaceful protester. Heartless. And then, after two officers were placed under review for this incident, the entire rest of the police force (57 officers) resigned in solidarity with their coworkers who pushed him!!!!!! Because they don't think they should be held accountable for their actions, but they're finally being held accountable, and so now they're protesting.

Seeing the old man get shoved to the ground was heartbreaking. That one of the cops went to check on him and was pulled away by his colleague is heartbreaking. That the cops cannot see why anyone would find it heartbreaking is heartbreaking.
i shared the clip of the man falling with my friends. They said "the fall was exaggerated for the press" and "what was he expecting when reaching for their belts" along with "why approach 40 riot police without thinking you'll be harmed". What do i say to this? Am I not seeing something they are? "Its just blood from the ears, nothing too bad".

No, but in all seriousness - whoever made that is a moron (I mean, obviously, since they're a conspiracy theorist). Impact with ground is technically blunt force trauma, which does not necessarily draw blood, especially if the impact is straight down and skin isn't dragged on the ground. Skin doesn't necessarily break from just impact with a surface (unless it's at a high velocity to a hard surface, like jumping off of a high-rise building and falling onto the concrete), it breaks from piercing damage or friction, like if you scrape it on the ground. If you think about most fractures, there's often no blood, the damage is internal, because our skin really isn't all that fragile (be a pretty shitty organ if it were). So there's literally no reason why his head should be bloody or where would be blood on the ground where the image pointed. Bleeding from the ears, however? That's a major sign of a basal skull fracture. Shockingly, a skull hitting the ground also makes a good amount of noise, like heard in the video. But you know, physics and medical accuracy is less exciting than a conspiracy theory, so. Have at it, ya dingdong.

The way that man fell after being pushed literally could kill him. My grandfather fell similarly at almost the exact same age, and died 2 weeks later because his body could not recover from the bruising and swelling in his brain. These police continue to commit disturbing, violent and irredeemable acts. This is exactly why we cannot stop protesting until this change happens. I am not just saying this, as I have been actively protesting with all of you out there. Unfortunately I have seen far too much racism at these protests as well. A black man was pushed to the ground for no apparent reason in front of me at a protest just a couple days ago. All because the police just charged us in order to force us back. All while we were peacefully demonstrating, and chanting "black lives matter" and "disband the police". I just hope that people grasp how big this moment in our countries history is going to be. We are going to shape the future with these protests if we continue to be organized and peaceful. As long as we continue to fight the racism and injustice. Stick together, protect each other. Don't give in to their fear mongering tactics.

57 colleagues/officers resigned in "disgust" over the treatment of their fellow officers who were "just executing orders".
These orders were though: "to be careful, protect residents and use common sense"
Not one of the orders was fulfilled. Even passing by and just looking at the man bleeding from his head without giving first aid makes the 57 as guilty as the ones who pushe that man.
It is good that they resigned, they should also be suspended and criminals like these do not belong into the police force. These man have forgotten that it is the taxpayers money, exactly those people who are exercising their first amendment that pays their salary.

He had Sanders on the show regularly and I don't remember him being singled out for mockery or criticism. I support Bernie but I didn't see Stephen as anti-Bernie. Sadly, more than 50% of registered Democrats are scared of any kind of radical reform and of Bernie's nomination allowing Trump another term. They voted for Biden, a man they rejected on multiple occasions when he was far more capable as a younger candidate. I don't think that can be laid at Colbert's door, not even partially.

Watching from Hong Kong, this is very saddening and frustrating. Although the root of our issues are different, the police brutality have manifested in similar ways. This speaks *volumes* about the difference in training. Take a good look at the entire scene (in the full video) - the cops push him, he falls backwards, hits his head and immediately goes limp. He's not "staying down", he's out cold. Slowly a puddle of blood forms under his head indicating *at least* a laceration of the skull, which should always give concerns of ICB, even more so as he is unresponsive. Even if he was an actual "threat" before, he just made the transition to "unresponsive, critical patient". Even in a mass cass incident he'd be triaged red.
Cops: One quick look, walk by, forget. You can almost *see* the "welp, not my problem anymore" on their faces.
And who are the ones who care for him? Even push through the crowd of cops to get to him, showing that they recognized the problem from a distance some of the cops probably didn't even see the man at all? It's the MP. Guys who are trained in battle field aid, crowd control and containing a situation. Guys who were sent in to "dominate the battlespace". And *they* are the ones who not only recognize the problem, but also act immediately and show basic human compassion.
As a german it's very, very wierd to see military police be the "better ones" in law enforcement °_°

I would especially highlight the detail where one cop momentarily kneels, as if to check on him, but one of his colleagues grabs him by the collar and pulls him away.
Even when one person has enough humanity to act correctly, the system steps in and stops it. This is taught behavior. This isn't the system going wrong, it's the system working exactly as intended.
The man was instantly bleeding out of his ear (and is in Serious condition in the hospital). And a first cop tries to stop, and he is hustled onward by another one-- they were going to walk on by and pretend they had nothing to do with it. You can find a longer version of the video on RUclips, the cops also tried to stop the press who were filming the incident. And yeah, we are very worried here about what you SAw and no you're not miSSing anything. However, and this speaks to another of your points, with the number of retired military brass now speaking up against trump, I am less concerned about trump's succeeding as a dictator. He will try, and he will be corrected. And yes, it feels very odd to me that the military, and possibly the intelligence community, which I've criticized vociferously over the decades, might actually protect We the People against this dictator-wannabe.

See the thing is, that's not very productive. We're still technically the strongest nation on the planet, and we've managed to alienate the majority of other people out there, so nobody is going to come rushing to our aid. Crying about shit does nothing but accept the doom of the American experiment as it's utterly failed.
It takes a strength and a bravery to be able to face down adversary with laughter and to come out on a stronger unified front. As more of us come together in laughter rather than through depression, we are able to command our thoughts better to rebel against a thoroughly toxic government.
Whether or not most of this is actually funny is besides the point -- you're right in my opinion that this probably isn't that funny. More ironic that the US citizenry fights for freedom when it's supposed to be land of the free, all that.
The point is that laughing at it does not imply making light of the issue. It shows defiance and scorn of the government's attempts to undermine the democracy.

The entire section of police resigned because those 2 guys were suspended. They claim that they "were just following orders." This is exactly what was the defense at war crimes hearings after WWII. Somehow I doubt that their orders were to push old guys down and leave them bleeding in the street.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. What these- and so many officers- have done is despicable, but it's been shown more than once that their superior officers contribute significantly to the bad behavior. I was raised to believe in the cops as blue knights. As heroes. As the good guys. I knew there were some bad, but I used to believe the good ones worked hard to get the bad ones out. It breaks my heart to see what they have become. And while deep down, I still believe SOME of them must still be good men and women, the time has come that the only thing left for a truly GOOD cop to do is to lay down his badge and refuse to be a part of it any more.
