You make good points Eric. A rotating unbalanced mass doesn't make much sense without the addition of a better support system maybe a closed bearing vs plastic on plastic at center support. Could see centrifugal force eventually wreaking havoc. I like Orbitclean in concept but it looks like Electrolux needs to reengineer this, maybe two small orbit sprayer on each end vs one large on one end.
Scott Lloyd I was thinking the same thing but ordered the arm. I think I mentioned wanting to try something like that in the video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video. It’s great to know that I’m not the only one having this problem. The metal piece on mine is actually loose and it’s got stuck and started burning the bottom of my dishes on the bottom rack and it’s completely broken. I don’t even know what to do with it. I was thinking do I have to get a new part or just replaced the whole dishwasher? I wanted to say heck with it, but I’m gonna try to do this instead and hopefully it works
I had the same problem as Graham Jones below - I have a newer model (FGIP2468UF) and there doesn't seem to be a replacement arm that fits the lower arm mount on our dishwasher. I did find a fix though - make sure your dishwasher is level! Take the lower spray arm and mount out of the dishwasher (along with the lower dish rack), and place a small level directly in the center above the drain. My dishwasher was higher in the front due to my not seating it properly the last time I took it out to work on a clogged drain hose, so the spray arm was fighting gravity trying to rotate all the way around. Once I leveled it the arm spun freely! It helps if you have a metal bowl that you can put in one corner of the lower dishwasher rack so you can hear the spray arm rotating around and hitting it.
I had the exact same problem. Same dishwasher, spray arm getting stuck. The dishes in the back were getting clean, but the ones on front stayed dirty. I didn't know you could replace the fancy (bad design) spray arm with a normal one. I tried to add weight to the back of the old one to try to balance it, but it still wasn't working well, so I followed your advise and popped on a new one from Amazon. The machine is working as good as new now.
The blue part that came built in my washer actually melted mid cycle. Called Frigidaire and they basically go hire someone to fix it. Then I came across your video, needless to say the new replacement part is on its way. Thank you so much.
I'd swear you're in my house. Fridge to the left of the dishwasher. Sliding doors further left on adjacent wall. Great video. Same issue. ordering that other spray arm. Tired of clean dishes in only one quadrant of the unit. I'd also note the bottom door gasket section isn't the easiest to find. I had to pull the door cover off because I couldn't get it to seat. Floor is messed up by my dishwasher now because of the water leakage from the gasket not seating properly.
@@spencer8857 good to know. Hopefully the arm fixes it for you! Good luck. I made this video years ago just because I’ve been helped so much by other videos. I’m glad it helped. Follow up and let me know if it does the trick?
Brilliant Eric. Thank you. The blue wheel weights 5.2 ounces dry - I would assume while it is running it weights more because it is full of water. A package of 48 1/2 ounce adhesive tire weights cost $9 at Harbor Freight, more than enough to do several dishwashers and about $20 less expensive than the replacement arm on Amazon. The *very* approximate weight of the water the blue wheel holds is 1.2 to 1.5 ounces. For the purpose of describing how approximate this is the methodology I used to arrive at that figure: I taped up the holes in the blue wheel, put it on an electronic scale and zeroed (tare) the scare to this dry weight. Then I slowly poured water into the wheel until it was full. My course of action now is to head to harbor freight and buy the package of adhesive tire weights. I will apply 6.5 ounces as a counterweight to the blue wheel.
@@mortgagemanmn My local harbor freight was closed yesterday, so I didn't get the weights yet. I will let you know. I noticed there is a gap between where the blue disc and the grey arm connect. These two parts have about a 1/16 inch gap between them where water (pressure) can escape. There should be a nylon washer here but there isn't. Before re-assembling yesterday to do a load of dirty dishes, I made a small plastic gasket to fill most of this space. My load of dishes came out clean - but there are other factors too. I made sure running the dishwasher didn't coincide with other things that would lower pressure such as laundry, sprinklers, or showers.
That’s good too! That was another thought I had I just didn’t know exactly how to do it. Glad it worked for you though! It’s too bad they couldn’t just make a dishwasher that works as expected.
We have a similar Gallery dishwasher, model FGID2468UF1A and the tube that snaps into the bottom is narrower. So unfortunately your alternative lower arm will probably not fit. Therefore I'm stuck purchasing a 2nd blue spinner in the last 6 months. Thanks for the video
This a 4yr old video but thanks. I'm hoping this work. I was about to order a new motor. My dishes dont be clean after was on bottom rack. Everything else work. Heater fan sump pump and water valve. Will order this and hop for the best..
I have the same dishwasher. Mine started leaking at the corners at the bottom of the door, so I replaced the bottom door seal and also the regular door seal. Then it kept leaking as before, so I tried replacing my bottom sprayer like you suggested, and now it appears to have fixed the leaking problem. I think the old bottom sprayer wasn't spraying correctly and caused the water to be flung at a hard pressure onto the door thus causing it to leak at the bottom of the door. The bottom sprayer on this model is a poor design. Good catch and great video.
Hi Eric , Wow this was driving me crazy I just got this dishwasher about 6 months ago and was having the same problem I ordered the piece and bingo my dishwasher is cleaning Can’t thank you enough for doing this video!!
ours is similar but the blue part is rectangle - not circular... i removed it to clean out the grey mesh filters below the lower washer arm and reinstalled it. i noticed dirty dishes and that that lower arm was off center. i have reinstalled (by clicking it into place) but instead of calling for "warranty service" - i might go with your idea. we too have low water pressure and the hot water tank is on the other side of the house so i'm sure that's wasting water... thanks for this video!
I had a similar issue (lower spray arm not turning, thus dirty dishes) In my case the solution was to replace the lower spray arm support. While it seemed reasonably sturdy, the plastic indents on the inside of the support had worn down just enough to prevent sufficiently sturdy support for the lower arm. (Needs to be particularly square due to off-balance design of original arm.) So, check the condition of the inside of your lower spray arm support. (Part #62 on parts store diagram) That plastic interfaces with the plastic protrusions at the top of the pump cover (#10) to keep the support rigid. If it’s not rigid enough it won’t spin and dishes won’t be as clean as they should get
Interesting. In my case I tried a brand new one and it didn’t change. Hopefully yours works now. If not try a new old fashioned spray arm and it should work!
