@@asfandyaralam7180 yeah man. Vertex weights basically tell the mesh which bone will move that part of it. I recommend Royal Skies LLC youtube channel. He has a full character course broken up into very short but concise videos.
Thanks bud, my rig did not like the hair and the teeth, still I can't find the teeth bones, but that's alright I just gave the bottom one to the jaw and the top one to the head
Great tutorial, but.....0:55 They are on layer 29, clicks casually on non-labeled/numbered field in a huge row of dots, (expecting everyone else to count them every time), simple... XD
Hey Razor Shark! Thanks for watching. No need to count the dots. When you hover over a layer dot there is a popover that tells you what layer it is. Pause the video at 0:55 and you will see at the end of the text in the popover it says bpy.data.armatures["rig"].layers[29]. The number of each layer is in between the brackets for every dot! Keep in mind the layer numbering is based on a zero index so the first layer is layer zero, the second is layer one etc.
@@benjamincavanagh6234 in the newer blender versions the layers are not visualized the same way as the video here. There is a list of bone layers and you go to the armature properties I belive it was (a green stickman icon). And then there is a list with the names of the bone layers and an eye icon to toggle their visibility
Sorry you are having trouble. I just tried to do this a number of times and could not replicate the issue. I am using Blender 3.0. If you have not already, try selecting your armature in the outliner instead of the viewport, putting it in pose mode and then selecting your mesh. Thanks for watching!
@@GetGoodwithVince I found another work around. click armature in pose mode, switch to object mode and shift click mesh, then switch to weight paint mode and control click the bone you want to weight paint. funny thing is i use blender 3.0 as well. this is exactly what pisses me off about blender. the fact that i can replicate everything step for step, version for version with someone else and get a completely different result. this is why 90% of tutorials out there don't work. I know I sound salty but for good reason.

@@GetGoodwithVince I tried both methods but when I get to weight paint mode I can't select which bone I want to see the weight of. Glad someone made this video. It took me far to long by myself to figure it how to weight paint a riggify rig last year
What does weigh paint do to a rigged mesh???
Can you please recommend me a video that explains this?

@@asfandyaralam7180 pretty much, manually weight painting can smooth out weird deformations that automatic weights can cause
I WATCHED A HUNDRED TUTORIALS... YOUR WERE THE ONLY ONE THAT HELPED ME.... THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
you are a legend! this was exactly what i needed
now you need to make visible "DEF" in Data -> Bone Collections of your rig
THANK YOU. I HAVE WASTED DAYS ON THISSSSSSSSSSS. YAAAAAAAARRHHH.
@@Myself........ np bro
Thanks bro! I used to be scrolling through the vertex groups every time. It was time consuming. Now you saved my time
Thank you, Ive been trying to figure this out forever.
Note: as of blender 4.0+, it's now ctrl+shift+click to select bone in weight paint mode, not ctrl+click
YOURE A LIFE SAVER
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed!
This is way too mysterious currently in Blender in my opinion. I looked around forever for this, thank you =)
I agree! Glad this helped.
thank you for this!
I owe you one, I couldn't remember how it was it, thanks
When i do this and select the bone. The weight paint doesn't show.
Thanks alot for this video, I was really struggling......
amazing knowledge, thank you!
that 'lock object mode' had me glitched out for agessss omy! thanks!

Thanks a bunch! I forgot about that lock object mode.
thank you for this
Quick and to the point, thanks mate!
I cannot find the layers in the Object Data Properties section and can't enable layer 29 because of this. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

they are actually on layer 30, not 29
Thank you so much
