I love the creamy lume. It's not even really fauxtina, but a color choice. The black is like a black & tan beer. I love the pop of color from the reddish orange second hand. These can already be had at a pretty good discount, though we're not getting those over produced grey market $100 Seikos back. I'd rather have the improvements anyway. These are right on the edge of my 38mm+ preferred sizing, so I would want to try one on first before committing. It would be cool if an aftermarket sapphire crystal became available. That would be my #1 upgrade to make. Overall, nice work Seiko.
The old one is a myth and myths live from the unknown...what hasn't changed is the value proposition: a solid workhorse, reasonably priced and always a conversation starter...
I had a seiko turtle and within a couple weeks I had a big gash in the crystal from bumping it into a door frame. It definitely scratches and it’s not very difficult to do
They ruined it with the terrible colourways. Drop the faux patina, unmatched chapter ring, red second hand and give it the sunburst dials from the previous gen and I'll buy one straight away.
I was considering swapping my watch (the old) into the new case and doing a sapphire upgrade. A sapphire is already out same one that fits those seiko 5 field watches 30mm
Chill , you don’t need to buy one straight away, there will be so many variants / colour ways. Just look at the 5kx releases. Infact wait 1 year and buy it for 30/40% off
I bought the "silver" (more champagne to my eye) version from the big A site for substantially less than the list price. The original model was a non-starter for me because I'm very time oriented and a non-hacking watch just won't work for my OCD... having no control on where the second hand is pointing on the minute. I have a 6 1/2 inch wrist and this watch look terrific on it. At under $300 which is what I paid, no regrets at all.
Sapphire crystals are overrated .Call me crazy but if I bash my watch on the reef or some d-bag’s designer grill, I don’t want my watch crystal to crack or shatter.Sapphire crystals are aesthetically pleasing but ill-fitted to the watch of a man who lives in,on, through the water on a regular basis. I prefer the watch to continue to run after a rough moment or encounter, not become inert or anything but functional.Seiko has used hardlex for good reason-it doesn’t yield.
Red second-hand makes it look expensive. I don’t see why watchmakers don’t concentrate on their colors. I’d like a black face with yellow hour-minute hands and blue hour markers. 👍😊
I own both this watch but the black dial version, and an SNXS79… love both equally, don’t care about the older 7S movement, only change I made to the SNXS was put it on a jubilee with fitted end links.
I really like it. I'm gonna pick one up when they inevitably end up half price somewhere in a sale. Will use the hardlex til it picks up a its first scratch then swap it out for a double dome sapphire. Case is a major upgrade from the old one and the NH35 is a great movement at that price point. Ive been able to regulate a San Martin with one to pretty much +/-0spd
@@urbaninjas If the amplitude is in order a descent watch maker can dial it in to a very high accuracy. I have a field master ( land turtle ) with an 4R35 in it and it runs around 2 seconds per day.
I first thought these were overpriced but I watched in interesting take on Seiko prices from Marc at Long Island watch RE inflation etc. I think the original snxs was around 180 RRP. But that must be 10-15 years ago? Not sure when they came out. But in today’s prices it’s about the same as the new ones. So we can’t really expect sapphire Crystal (obviously you will on a micro brand). I think waiting for the price drop like everyone says is the best bet.
Old Seiko 5s were junk. The movement was antiquated and the bracelets trash. Not worth buying. These are so much better. To all complaining about the price. Just be patient. These will come down in price just like all the other new seiko 5s
new vs. old here is maybe somewhat comparing apples and oranges: the old style was the kind of dress watch you can wear to a funeral, the new one is retroXmodern+sporty. I like how the new ones are less solomn and more spunky. I would not wear a blaze orange second hand to a funeral, but I do not attend funerals every day (nor do I want to be reminded of them). I'd say the new one is not a replacement for an expensive funeral-watch, but that the new one is better for being not that (a very subjective every-day style opinion).
It's a great looking watch, but Seiko really should give it a sapphire crystal. For the price Seiko should include more. Don't be a sucker and buy this watch at full price!
That’s idiotic argument, this watch is still entry level Seiko and price is not big, infact price is just right considering inflation,300$ is in adjusted inflation of over 10years exactly 120$.You can’t even compare this watch with let say any micro brand with saphire crystal or ceramic bezel beacuse unlike like Seiko which is huge conglomerate micro brand doesnt offer any service, distribution,AD,warranty or any long term testing of watch parts or any design cost(cuz manny micro brands just copy Seiko historical references is some form or variation).
@@dado380 Exactly. I'm really tired of people constantly comparing Seiko unfavourably to micro brands without considering all of the multiple factors/variables etc. They act like choosing a micro brand over Seiko is somehow more discerning, but the vast majority of ones I've seen look much cheaper/inferior than comparable Seiko's, and the durability/longevity of these watches has yet to be proven. Overall, I'd say micro brands are a much bigger risk from a consumer point of view, and I have zero interest in them because of this as well as their inferior design language.
Very happy to see the ~textured metal center-bar on the reflective hands against a dark dial for legibility (polished hands simply disappear). There must be a way to balance legibility and fashion: A mix of brushed and white or textured-metal (effectiely white until you look at it under a magnifier) might be ideal for visibility, but maybe people want some polish for aesthetics. Hopefully this combination is a good balance. Can anyone who has this watch report?
Yes the watch used to be called the $100 Rolex killer this is the new version of it and I said in the video it's no longer $100. You got to watch the video
Despite all the construction upgrades, the dial just looks worse so it's a hard pass. The colorways are ugly, the contrasting chapter ring and orange accent completely strip the watch of its original class. I would much rather buy an original SNXS79 and upgrade the movement, the caseback and the bracelet with aftermarket parts for less money than this new Seiko release.

Right! They "forgot" to fix the craplex crystal! 😂 Honestly, would I open my wallet for such a poorly specced watch because some find it cool? Definitely not!!
It slipped their minds! lol but for real Seiko should update their outdated strategy, which seems designed to push customers toward their higher-priced models. The production cost difference between sapphire and Hardlex is negligible, especially since Seiko manufactures them in-house.

I think I prefer the old one. How some there are so few seiko 5s now which are all very similar. The old seiko 5 collection is huge.
The old one has a more classic look, which I prefer.
I like the Kanji day wheel.
The old one is a myth and myths live from the unknown...what hasn't changed is the value proposition: a solid workhorse, reasonably priced and always a conversation starter...
There is nothing wrong with hardlex. It can't shatter and try scratching it.
I scratched the hardlex back on my Alpinist and I wasn't even trying. Admittedly, Uncle Straps need to fillet their edges better.
I had a seiko turtle and within a couple weeks I had a big gash in the crystal from bumping it into a door frame. It definitely scratches and it’s not very difficult to do
O no it scratches I promise you, horrible but it's still better that regular mineral I guess 🤷♂️
I prefer the previous SNXS version. This new dial looks a little bit cheap.

I really like the contrasting chapter rings on these as it gives them a unique updated look. I prefer the champagne dial.
I like the champagne best this gen as well
Anche a me piaceva, poi dal vivo ho deciso sul nero
The old SNXS79 on an uncle seiko President bracelet will always be better than this in my eyes. This looks too playful for my liking
Looks kind of hybridized with a SARB035.

Its a good watch, but even with the upgrades a Rolex killer. Nah not close lol. I dropped a LS6 in my 1990 civic its a Ferrari killer. OK lol.
The older one without all the upgrades was nick named the 100 dollar Rolex killer
I think it looks fire, more refined than the model before.
yes
Yeah it looks vintage and modern at the same time. A nice upgrade
In one word, Seiko has done a good job, these 10 bars are magnificent, durable and economical, I think everyone should have them.❤
Red second-hand makes it look expensive. I don’t see why watchmakers don’t concentrate on their colors. I’d like a black face with yellow hour-minute hands and blue hour markers. 👍😊
For 250 usd its a really good deal. Better than most homage chinese brand
Sapphire … my 275 seiko quartz day date has it. Now that’s daily driver :-)

Frens, I need a replacement butterfly clasp for my Alpinist 1959 Mystic Forest. Looks like Hard Edge series would fit. Where parts?

And the funny thing is. The movement inside can be dialed in to be as accurate as the Rolex one.
Yeah, sure. And I bet nobody can tell the difference between your Honda Civic and a Porsche too, right?

The dial color selection is not the best. I liked the old series better. Maybe other colors will come
