I love how you major fish breeders watch each others videos and learn from them! So cool very inspirational, i hope to be up with you "big dogs" in the aquarium in the future! keep it up with the great advice that's so much!!!
This is just superb, I have been researching "indoor shrimp farming in texas" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eenva Harrowing Eradicator - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to start a shrimp farming business minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Best dwarf shrimp introduction video I have ever seen on RUclips!! Some RUclips channels are just talking bullshit, but your videos are right on point. This is very important information for new shrimp keepers to know. Good work, man!
Hi, Rob! DETAquatics gave you a super shout out this morning including a link to your website. We always appreciate your attention to detail and the information you gave here is the hardest for me to grasp. (Makes you sound really smart, too!) you manage to make it sound easy enough for almost anyone. Thanks and blessings!
Hey dude! Simply Shrimp recommended your channel. I just told him that Y’ALL are gonna be my shrimp people. Love your video format and info delivery. Hope to learn more and more from y’all. I’ll try to tune in for live questions!
great video !!! although i hate tds meters ... tds is a very vauge way to test water ... tds(total disolved solids) means anything that is in the water is counted; its not indictive of anything in particular. most shrimp keepers, keep plants in their tanks if you dose any ferts(which you should for the health of plants) the tds will go through the roof and might freak people out. meanwhile its totally fine aswell as they arent being over dosed as the plants will uptake them. you should make a vid talking about ferts and recomended plant, especally mosses ! huge fan btw. thanks for the top notch advice !
I've bred shrimp before and want to get back into it with my guppy breeding. I've always used the shrimp to eat uneaten food and it always worked wonders in keeping the tanks clean. Great video man!
This is the best video ever in history of shrimp keeping !!! A milestone!!! Probably the most onest, comprehensive, easy to understand and use video that shrimp lovers awaited for a long time. Great job Rob! Diesel Power! :)
Oh yea, right on point. It's so important to keep these guys in the recommended water parameter for them to thrive. Couldn't agreed more rob , there's still many whom doesn't get the point of it.
Fantastic video. Thank you so much! You went straight to the point and shared your knowledge with us, instead of beating around the bush like soooo many other "Shrimp Breeding" videos on RUclips. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel! Keep the vids coming coming and keep up the great work. Cheers!
Thanks Robert, what a great video with lots of excellent information. I think I'll try Tiawan B's, my well water is 4.5 GH and PH of 6.6-6.8 right out of the tap.
Great video... so glad you went into the details of the water parameters. I have seen a lot of them (videos) but I liked how you went into details of the parameters as well as how to adjust them.
Great video! I've been considering adding shrimp to my Goodeid tank and this has made me feel a lot more confident about adding shrimp successfully! Many thanks!
+Mackenzie Ferguson thank you for the comment and feedback Mackenzie! I'm glad this video is proving useful to many :) good luck with your future shrimp!
Hey, just saw Dustin's interview with you and so here I am... I am subscribing! Great interview. Now I'm interested in these shrimp! (doing the dancing man, lol)
New to the channel. Love your videos they are very informative. I have question about well water. I have a well and I am trying to keep Neocaridina shrimp. My shrimp have been living but not breeding as far as I can tell. I checked my TDS and it's all over the place. I also checked my GH and KH and the GH is around 89.5 per API test kit. KH is 71.6. In my well, the company who services the unit, adds Calcite to the well tank. It's a white pellet that is supposed to adjust the acidity of the water. Coming out of the faucet going through the calcite is around 8.0. My question is, would the calcite alter the magnesium and calcium prevent the KH and GH from stabilizing? I do have a bypass on the unit/well tank that has the calcite. Do you suggest that I bypass it and used crushed coral with a HOB filter to naturally adjust the GH and KH? I also have the Shrimp Mineral you mentioned in the video and a RO unit we use for drinking water. I am at the point where I want to go bare bottom with just well water and combine all my Neocaridina shrimp together and replace all the water in my tanks. Sorry about the long winded question.
Unfortunately I live in a state where it gets cold during some times of the year so I have to have a heater in my tank. During the spring and summer months though I turn off the heater.
Mine seem to be doing well at around 120 TDS. My tap comes at around 150. And with the driftwood and leaves, has dropped to 120 with me throwing in some crushed coral water I have sitting leaching TDS over time, so I can drip acclimating top off more water to remineralize it. I took out a few baby guppies I had in the tank and now I am seeing baby shrimp all over the tank. :)
I use filtered rain water. TDS of 3 so have to remineralize. I keep both neo's and caridina together in a ph of 6.3, gh of 2-4 kh of 0-1, TDS of 150 and they both breed fine. It's important for people to know that neo's can adapt to a wider range than caridina. So when keeping both together, go for caridina perimeters.
excellent close up image quality Rob and very informative. Definitely going to refer to this when I set my shrimp tanks up. 2 questions I do have. first you mentioned in the video you heat the room and not heaters in the tank and hinted at a reason for this but did not elaborate. I am planning on making matten filters so could i put a heater behind the sponge or should i heat the room? Lastly when setting up shrimp tanks from new I have read a few times that the tanks should be well established. Is this true? if so how many months and is there a way to establish without sacrificing shrimp? Peace, Ben
7:15 Our RO system always has a TDS of around 20. I’m trying to keep my neos happy. Would I still follow the remineralization to take the water up to 200 tds?
Great video! Neos these days are pretty darn hardy for sure. I'm currently trying to see if I have the ability to get tangerine tigers and Taiwan bees to breed in the same tank (I know they interbreed, that's actually the point of me keeping them together), so hopefully that goes well.
I don't think we need salted water anymore for the amono shrimp because I bought some cherry shrimp and there where two pin headed shrimp along with them by mistake and they grew in my tank to adult amono shrimp with no salt water. What are your thoughts on this?
I am from UK. When you talk about well water is that literally water from a well? E.g bucket rope hole in ground? Thank you and apologies for my niavity
In the u.s. there are some states that allow citizens to get water from a well profressionally attached to the water table instead of public sewage and water. I think I am partially correct atleast lol.
Can you do a video on Ghost Shrimp? I have a ton of them and the pet store doesn't give good enough information on them and I honestly can't find any good information on them here on youtube. if you have any video suggestions please share them with me! But I would actually like to see you do a video on them. :)
Hey is it okay to put multiple varieties of neocardina in one 5 gallon tank? Will they breed? Is it okay to keep them in that? Is it okay to keep a pair of neocardina shrimp in established planted bowl of measure 1.5gallon or 2: gallon?
Flip Aquatics cherry shrimp and darn near bullet proof. I've had mine for a little over a month with no deaths. Now I have shrimplets and another berried female. The cherries have continued to color up very nicely. I have never kept shrimp before these Flip Aquatic cherries.
Awesome channel. I've subscribed. Been watching all night. Recently started the shrimp hobby. I have about ten various neos. My question is regarding their behavior. Why do some ten to bend their tails toward they're head. Does this mean they're about to molt? Or just normal behavior? Also. Will my neos breed at 77-78 Fahrenheit?
Hi Rob! Thanks for the videó,help me a lot.Only thing its confusing me is: tibee.if taiwan bee needs about 100tds and other shrimp need some different, how you can keep them together to get your tibee shrimp???? Itt really like those hybrids :) thanks very much!! Rob and Mark U 2 guys are awesome, top shrimps keepers!all the Best
+denes magyar thank you so much for the comment denes! Great question. What I would do is match the parameters for the female shrimps. So if I had females tigers I would use a male Taiwan bee. He wouldn't be super happy about it but he would still breed with all the ladies. And if I had a male tiger, I would use Taiwan bee parameters to make the ladies happy
I really want to set up a shrimp tank but the place I'm living at has softened water and I was curious if the salts from the softener would a negative impact on the shrimp? I can't afford a RO water thingy (brain fart), so my only other option would be to buy distilled water and reminerilize it. I would ask during a livestream but my computer is glitchy and won't let me comment. Keep up the great work and take care.
Distilled water in total will cost more. Softened water isn't suitable for any fresh/saltwater coz it has high alkalinity and sodium concentrations. So you can try distilled water and reminarelize it for some period of time and just buy an RO unit.
+Kate B hey Kate! Great question for sure. In my experience, softened water does have a negative affect on shrimp. It's not drastic and they can do okay with it. Although, I would bypass the salt part of your system and just use straight well water or let it pass through the sediment block. Buying distilled water is always a great option although not very cost effective. Shrimp do not need crazy water changes so depending on your tank size it'll cost about $10 per month
I have water softener and tried that water for my tank, it was deadly for plants, so I've got RO unit and remineralization salts and now its going well.
Great video and great information too much for my head to take in thou 🤯 😂 I did want to get five cherry shrimp and 5 yellow ones for my community tank but someone told me if they have babies they come out not great ie:brown is this correct do you know many thanks KEEP THE GREAT VIDEOS FLOWING.....👌🏻👍🏻
this is a great video, one funny thing that happened to me is that I bought a tank without knowing anything and bought about 20 shrimp it was a shrimp only tank and they thrived without any of that mineral and ph things and I used tap water... is that normal?
+Fishy Snowman hey fishy! I would first do RO water remineralized with salty shrimp Gh + to a TDs of 100. Then I would use Ada africana. It tends to buffer the water really low
I have the following: GH/KH both at 9, TDS 190, but the kicker is 8.2 PH. I am a breeder of Moscow guppies and so forth, want to start breeding shrimp, but I don't want to buy and start an RO setup. Can I keep cherries and will they breed?
Hi, thanks for sharing what you know. I watched one of your video, I could not remember the exact video. I remember that you said forget about the GH and KH, concentrate on the TDS. Does this mean I only need a TDS tester to succesfully breed dwarf shrimps?
+AngTan Mor the video you are referring to is when I was making remineralized water. So, I knew that a certain TDs would give me the right amount of GH and KH. Gh and kh are the most important factors out of all. TDs is only useful when remineralized water or check your tank to see if it needs a water change
Bought some shrimp and one came with Ellobiopsidae. I've salt dipped it a few times and it's molted. As far as I can see it looks like it's done the job. How long should I wait before returning it into my main tank? Also just curious for fungus's and other bacteria like Vorticella, how would I go about cleansing the tank of these? Thanks
+H Ca wow that's very interesting if it killed all the ellobiopsidae. I've never had luck killing it this far. Fenbendazole does the trick on cleaning up the tank. Just do a water change a few days after dosing it
Hi Rob! I'm curious- have you ever used a floating breeder box to separate some particularly nice looking shrimp for breeding? I have a small tank with a mix of neos, and have a few blue velvets in the breeder box in hopes of getting some pretty blue babies. I don't have another tank, so I thought separating them until one is berried might work. Thoughts?
Absolutely! Marina has a really nice hang on the side breeder box that I have used in the past. It will definitely help separate them and selectively breed them.
@@LupDiesel Hey! I'm so sorry to bother you, but I've had several shrimp deaths and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Water parameters are as follows: Temp 73 -76 degrees F pH 6.8 kh 2 Gh 6.5 The kh and gh were a little higher because I added shrimp salt, so I added some r/o water to bring the gh back within range. All of the shrimp that die look like they get stuck in their exoskeletons. One of them that I'm assuming will soon die appears to be trying to molt, but can't. I feel so bad! I'm sure it's too late for that little guy, but is there anything I can do to prevent these issues? None of the new ones have molted successfully yet, but the older red cherry shrimp I had in the tank had no problems molting. Could over feeding cause this? Any ideas? I love these shrimp, I don't want to lose any more!
What type of shrimp? If they are neos then the water is too soft for them. If they are crystals, your spot on. If they are Taiwan bee shrimp then the KH could be causing issues. Send me an email: rob@flipaquatics.com with as much info about the tank as possible. I'll do my best to help.
@@LupDiesel Thank you!! Just shot you an email. I'm sure you get a ton of emails, so I'll keep combing through the internet trying to sort this out in the meantime. :) Thanks again! You guys are amazing.
I am not familiar with those shrimp terms but what are rili shrimps categorized as? I'm trying to breed the two shrimp i have but still have no idea. I'll watch the video a few times of course. This will also be my first time being shrimp. Lastly it's a 5.5 gallon tank big enough to house them? I hope you reply😁
when discussing KH/GH etc, you talk about degrees (i am assuming), could you let us know the ppm equivalent because when looking up a conversion table, there are a couple different degrees measurements.
I'm wondering why would they prefer a hard water (8 < GH < 15)? As far as I understand the main source of minerals for animals come from food intake instead of breathing ...
+Roger Nevez that is correct. But if you were use to breathing in a certain type of air (hard water), it was be bad to switch to a completely different type of air (soft water). Most shrimp are raised in hard water over in Taiwan
so my tap water TDs is like anywhere from a 110 to 125 and I have a 55gal heavy Planet tank and I have small fish the a mix of all kinds of different fancy shrimp from Pet Supply Plus and other small shops .my TDS can range from 500 to 700 and I have seen 800s is that okay..I also use fertilizer from seachem ..getting ready to get a RO unit .or I can get a Rodi unit .what do you recommend robs.. list of the video I've been waiting for you to make love you brother and that beautiful wife of yours
I have a solid plan on buying some of the Bloody Mary shrimp from you in the near future. To get ahead on the thank setup what do you recommend for those specific shrimp? I got well water PH horribly in the 8.5's, what do I need to do to get ready for them?
+Arnaldo Hernandez great questions and comment. I would start by setting up the tank to neo parameters that I mentioned in the video. Test your Gh and kh and see where you're at. Then add distilled water to get your water just right (mixing the two together)
Sweet video!!!!
Wowzer.. celeb in the house :) Thanks for stopping in brother!
+LupDiesel - Flip Aquatics when a pregnant shrimp dies do you use a tumberler for it
+wreckless Gaming yes, or at least when we can. Sometimes we don't have enough available. I'm working on making a big one now

Can you do a video on water changes? I recently did a water change on my tank and had a big die off.
I can try to make that happen for next week :)
No more than 20% of water change , better use distilled water to replace what you took out
Hello sir thanks for your sharing this vedio how to make shrimp in fresh water can't do in the back yard this
Can you do a video on Ghost Shrimp? it do making me confuse i could understand about neo caridina but if we dont get solty shrimp then what we should do
really good tips, à big thank from France !
+Jérémy MOEBS shout out to France :) thanks for the comment!
I have a PH of 6,5
And i like alot of tannins, leaf litter and wood in my tanks wich will lower it even more how do i raise it to keep shrimp?

I can never find a proper dosage for the gh / kh plus. Do you add a small amount and test over time? I have very soft tap water.
Thank you for this very informative video.
can you use spring water if you have a regular supplier and how if so?
I honestly never post things. But by far the best shrimp info I’ve found on RUclips.
Thank you Kelvin :(

this is a great video, one funny thing that happened to me is that I bought a tank without knowing anything and bought about 20 shrimp it was a shrimp only tank and they thrived without any of that mineral and ph things and I used tap water... is that normal?
Good information thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting! Glad you liked it
do they get big enough ta eat? thank ya fer the video,,,,, jist foumd yer chanel an subed
lol no they only get to 1.5"
Great video. Really good. question if I wanted to for Taiwan bees how do I get my pH 5.5. ?
Really would love the answer to this. Thx
I think he meant to say that TDS is more important than KH and GH.
Thanks. I need to learn more about TDS, GH and KH. By the way, I went ahead, took some time to check your channel.
+AngTan Mor the video you are referring to is when I was making remineralized water. So, I knew that a certain TDs would give me the right amount of GH and KH. Gh and kh are the most important factors out of all. TDs is only useful when remineralized water or check your tank to see if it needs a water change
+McMerwe Farms thanks for helping out :)
Thanks a lot for clearing that.
thanks for a good video
Good video
so how do I reach out to your team best?
i'm using purified water. is that OK too?
what's the best substrate for shrimp?
Bought some shrimp and one came with Ellobiopsidae. I've salt dipped it a few times and it's molted. As far as I can see it looks like it's done the job. How long should I wait before returning it into my main tank? Also just curious for fungus's and other bacteria like Vorticella, how would I go about cleansing the tank of these?
Thanks
+H Ca wow that's very interesting if it killed all the ellobiopsidae. I've never had luck killing it this far. Fenbendazole does the trick on cleaning up the tank. Just do a water change a few days after dosing it
Good info
@@LupDiesel Awesome. Thanks, man!
@@LupDiesel Hey! I'm so sorry to bother you, but I've had several shrimp deaths and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Water parameters are as follows:
Temp 73 -76 degrees F
pH 6.8
kh 2
Gh 6.5
The kh and gh were a little higher because I added shrimp salt, so I added some r/o water to bring the gh back within range.
Nice
I am not familiar with those shrimp terms but what are rili shrimps categorized as? I'm trying to breed the two shrimp i have but still have no idea. I'll watch the video a few times of course. This will also be my first time being shrimp. Lastly it's a 5.5 gallon tank big enough to house them?
I hope you reply😁
the shrimps are so beautiful
Thank you so much :)
how do you cycle your tanks? do you use any bottled bacteria?
+Daniel Mallia yes, I actually do. I use fluval cycle or I think they call it fluval bacteria booster. Thanks for the comment Daniel
when discussing KH/GH etc, you talk about degrees (i am assuming), could you let us know the ppm equivalent because when looking up a conversion table, there are a couple different degrees measurements.
+Aussie Fish Keeper great question and comment Aussie! I believe 1 degree is 18 ppm or roughly close to that
Thx, so its german degrees :) thought it might be but wanted to be sure.
+Aussie Fish Keeper always better to ask! Safe rather than sorry
What should be the male to female ratio??
The goal would be to get a PH of 7 or lower, what would you recommend?
+Arnaldo Hernandez I would recommend using fluval shrimp stratum and trying to get your KH down to 1-3 range
