- How to breed cherry shrimp and crystal reds are among the most asked questions we receive. In today video, we break down the most important factor when breeding shrimp like cherry shrimp and crystal reds. If you can get this one thing right from the beginning, it will save you a lot of hardship as a shrimp keeper.
I also discuss what GH, KH, TDS and PH are and how they relate to breeding freshwater shrimp. If you have any questions, join me for a live stream every Sunday @ 6:30 est. or Wednesday at 2:30 est. - Животные
Sweet video!!!!
Wowzer.. celeb in the house :) Thanks for stopping in brother!
+LupDiesel - Flip Aquatics when a pregnant shrimp dies do you use a tumberler for it
+wreckless Gaming yes, or at least when we can. Sometimes we don't have enough available. I'm working on making a big one now
I love how you major fish breeders watch each others videos and learn from them! So cool very inspirational, i hope to be up with you "big dogs" in the aquarium in the future! keep it up with the great advice that's so much!!!
This is just superb, I have been researching "indoor shrimp farming in texas" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eenva Harrowing Eradicator - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to start a shrimp farming business minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
is it just me or does anyone else think shrimp are adorable
And yummy. 😂
I think they're cute and so does my brother! If my shrimp have babies I'll give him some
Watched the video twice dude. Allot of info, trying my best to be sponge! Great job!
+McMerwe Farms thank you so much for that my friend :) I appreciate your comments and support! See you in the live stream today?
Best dwarf shrimp introduction video I have ever seen on RUclips!! Some RUclips channels are just talking bullshit, but your videos are right on point. This is very important information for new shrimp keepers to know. Good work, man!
Ya, he made allot of effort with this one!
great video !!! although i hate tds meters ... tds is a very vauge way to test water ... tds(total disolved solids) means anything that is in the water is counted; its not indictive of anything in particular. most shrimp keepers, keep plants in their tanks if you dose any ferts(which you should for the health of plants) the tds will go through the roof and might freak people out. meanwhile its totally fine aswell as they arent being over dosed as the plants will uptake them. you should make a vid talking about ferts and recomended plant, especally mosses ! huge fan btw. thanks for the top notch advice !
I've bred shrimp before and want to get back into it with my guppy breeding. I've always used the shrimp to eat uneaten food and it always worked wonders in keeping the tanks clean. Great video man!
Home Aquatics thanks for the comment my friend! I enjoy your videos :) keep them coming! let me know if you need some shrimp
I actually do! Whats your website again?
Home Aquatics awesome! www.flipaquatics.com
Hi, Rob! DETAquatics gave you a super shout out this morning including a link to your website. We always appreciate your attention to detail and the information you gave here is the hardest for me to grasp. (Makes you sound really smart, too!) you manage to make it sound easy enough for almost anyone. Thanks and blessings!
Just received my 10 cherry shrimp . I am very pleased
Fantastic info, thanks! Got a feeder ghost shrimp tank going and trying to make the environment more pleasant for them.
my tap water is 500+ tds, its actually kind of bad.
You might want to get an rodi unit
thank you. This was just what I needed. Going to get ready and order 5 black Rose pretty soon.
Unfortunately I live in a state where it gets cold during some times of the year so I have to have a heater in my tank. During the spring and summer months though I turn off the heater.
New to the channel. Love your videos they are very informative. I have question about well water. I have a well and I am trying to keep Neocaridina shrimp. My shrimp have been living but not breeding as far as I can tell. I checked my TDS and it's all over the place. I also checked my GH and KH and the GH is around 89.5 per API test kit. KH is 71.6. In my well, the company who services the unit, adds Calcite to the well tank. It's a white pellet that is supposed to adjust the acidity of the water. Coming out of the faucet going through the calcite is around 8.0. My question is, would the calcite alter the magnesium and calcium prevent the KH and GH from stabilizing? I do have a bypass on the unit/well tank that has the calcite. Do you suggest that I bypass it and used crushed coral with a HOB filter to naturally adjust the GH and KH? I also have the Shrimp Mineral you mentioned in the video and a RO unit we use for drinking water. I am at the point where I want to go bare bottom with just well water and combine all my Neocaridina shrimp together and replace all the water in my tanks. Sorry about the long winded question.
Can you do a video on Ghost Shrimp? I have a ton of them and the pet store doesn't give good enough information on them and I honestly can't find any good information on them here on youtube. if you have any video suggestions please share them with me! But I would actually like to see you do a video on them. :)
7:15 Our RO system always has a TDS of around 20. I’m trying to keep my neos happy. Would I still follow the remineralization to take the water up to 200 tds?
... a 200 TDS, a GH of 15 and a KH of 7-8 DGH ?!
Preparing R.O. water with Saltyshrimp and a 200 TDS gives me a GH somewhere between 6 -8 degrees. Adding carbonates in addition to reach a KH of 7-8, means that the TDS goes far beyond of 200. And what about the ph value of 7 -7.2 and a KH of 7-8 ? The ph would be somewhere between 8.2 - 8.4. ! Are you sure of what you´re saying ?
This is just superb, I have been researching "how long does it take to grow shrimp?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eenva Harrowing Eradicator - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to start a shrimp farming business without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got great success with it.
Hey is it okay to put multiple varieties of neocardina in one 5 gallon tank? Will they breed? Is it okay to keep them in that? Is it okay to keep a pair of neocardina shrimp in established planted bowl of measure 1.5gallon or 2: gallon?
Great Video with great Information to have on hand. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge with us!

Why my cherry shrimps get the ring of the death and die? I have a Gh of 9, a KH of 8, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 2, Ph of 7.5
200 TDS tap water? May as well drink from a puddle.... Mine is 20..
I buy 0 TDS water an re mineralize to 250 TDS that gives me 4 KH 10 GH
Thanks Robert, what a great video with lots of excellent information. I think I'll try Tiawan B's, my well water is 4.5 GH and PH of 6.6-6.8 right out of the tap.
Oh yea, right on point. It's so important to keep these guys in the recommended water parameter for them to thrive.
Couldn't agreed more rob , there's still many whom doesn't get the point of it.
Hello sir thanks for your sharing this vedio how to make shrimp in fresh water can't do in the back yard this
I just bought a fish tank I was going to use it for fish but go intrested in shrimp was woundering do the shimp need to have the water cycle ?
I don't think we need salted water anymore for the amono shrimp because I bought some cherry shrimp and there where two pin headed shrimp along with them by mistake and they grew in my tank to adult amono shrimp with no salt water. What are your thoughts on this?
Hi rob im just confused why my water ph is 8.3 where the tds is abt 150ppm
I have a PH of 6,5
And i like alot of tannins, leaf litter and wood in my tanks wich will lower it even more how do i raise it to keep shrimp?
it do making me confuse i could understand about neo caridina but if we dont get solty shrimp then what we should do
Finally...actual parameter numbers! Thank you so much!
Your videos always make me feel a lot more confident about keeping shrimp... Doing this right so far! Whew : )
I am from UK. When you talk about well water is that literally water from a well? E.g bucket rope hole in ground? Thank you and apologies for my niavity
In the u.s. there are some states that allow citizens to get water from a well profressionally attached to the water table instead of public sewage and water. I think I am partially correct atleast lol.
What should be the male to female ratio??
What test strips do you use? Thanks for the video.
Can river shrimp breed in aquarium?????
Do they grow like 6inches more?
👍🏾
I’m getting ready to dive into shrimp from a friend and I’m so glad to have you as a trusted resource for information.
Thank you Diva :) I'm here to help!
wow
Nice
Great video! Neos these days are pretty darn hardy for sure. I'm currently trying to see if I have the ability to get tangerine tigers and Taiwan bees to breed in the same tank (I know they interbreed, that's actually the point of me keeping them together), so hopefully that goes well.
Well make sure to do some videos on it! Hopefully you get some pretty amazing shrimp out of them. Thanks for watching!~
I definitely will and yeah that's the hope! I've heard you can get a Yellow King Kong (or something like them) from it, but we'll see.
do they get big enough ta eat? thank ya fer the video,,,,, jist foumd yer chanel an subed
lol no they only get to 1.5"
💕 🦐💕
Why my shrimps drop their eggs?
By far one of the most informative videos I gave watched yet on RUclips! Thank you.
HopArt Studio thank you so much for saying that :) I really appreciate the feedback! thanks for watching
so how do I reach out to your team best?
good but so so so adds...
I have a shrimp in my pants
Got lucky where $1 can buy me 5 red cherry shrimps
Lucky!! I just bought some and it's $4 for one shrimp smh
Hey dude! Simply Shrimp recommended your channel. I just told him that Y’ALL are gonna be my shrimp people. Love your video format and info delivery. Hope to learn more and more from y’all. I’ll try to tune in for live questions!
Can you do a video on water changes? I recently did a water change on my tank and had a big die off.
I can try to make that happen for next week :)
No more than 20% of water change , better use distilled water to replace what you took out
Mine seem to be doing well at around 120 TDS. My tap comes at around 150. And with the driftwood and leaves, has dropped to 120 with me throwing in some crushed coral water I have sitting leaching TDS over time, so I can drip acclimating top off more water to remineralize it. I took out a few baby guppies I had in the tank and now I am seeing baby shrimp all over the tank. :)
I have the following: GH/KH both at 9, TDS 190, but the kicker is 8.2 PH. I am a breeder of Moscow guppies and so forth, want to start breeding shrimp, but I don't want to buy and start an RO setup. Can I keep cherries and will they breed?
So much good info! Thanks Rob. Excellent video.
The Fish Nerd thank you my friend :) PS. the logo looks great!! loving that you made it bigger
Thanks! I'm trying to get this branding thing figured out. Lol
Thanks for the reply. There's lots of floating plans, driftwood and huge rock.
so my tap water TDs is like anywhere from a 110 to 125 and I have a 55gal heavy Planet tank and I have small fish the a mix of all kinds of different fancy shrimp from Pet Supply Plus and other small shops .my TDS can range from 500 to 700 and I have seen 800s is that okay..I also use fertilizer from seachem ..getting ready to get a RO unit .or I can get a Rodi unit .what do you recommend robs.. list of the video I've been waiting for you to make love you brother and that beautiful wife of yours
3 years ago some Cherries apparently came in as tiny hitchhikers on some moss. In a few months I had tons. i.imgur.com/zmOXxFP.jpg i.imgur.com/VB1GtfR.jpg But now I worry about them inbreeding and weakening. Should I add some more? I would want to get really, really good ones- not culls. Your shrimp are so beautiful. Thanks!
really good tips, à big thank from France !
+Jérémy MOEBS shout out to France :) thanks for the comment!
Thanks for sharing, by far the easiest How To to understand and tools provided.
Great video and great information too much for my head to take in thou 🤯 😂 I did want to get five cherry shrimp and 5 yellow ones for my community tank but someone told me if they have babies they come out not great ie:brown is this correct do you know many thanks KEEP THE GREAT VIDEOS FLOWING.....👌🏻👍🏻
So what is the most important factor??? is it water quality??? Where does he say - "The most important factor is...."
That's very cool :) great video Rob!
I'm surprised that the neos can handle a GH of 15. I've read online that anything above a GH of 10 can cause molting issues. Then again, it could be a combination of high GH and high temperatures, since you guys keep your shrimp pretty cool.
Awesome channel. I've subscribed. Been watching all night. Recently started the shrimp hobby. I have about ten various neos. My question is regarding their behavior. Why do some ten to bend their tails toward they're head. Does this mean they're about to molt? Or just normal behavior? Also. Will my neos breed at 77-78 Fahrenheit?
I use filtered rain water. TDS of 3 so have to remineralize. I keep both neo's and caridina together in a ph of 6.3, gh of 2-4 kh of 0-1, TDS of 150 and they both breed fine. It's important for people to know that neo's can adapt to a wider range than caridina. So when keeping both together, go for caridina perimeters.
I am not familiar with those shrimp terms but what are rili shrimps categorized as? I'm trying to breed the two shrimp i have but still have no idea. I'll watch the video a few times of course. This will also be my first time being shrimp. Lastly it's a 5.5 gallon tank big enough to house them?
I hope you reply😁
Short version - good water oyster shell temp in mid to low 70s.
You really have some very beautiful shrimps.
Hey, just saw Dustin's interview with you and so here I am... I am subscribing! Great interview. Now I'm interested in these shrimp! (doing the dancing man, lol)
Can you hit me up on Facebook. I want to order some Crystal reds. Timm. Smile. hoping to hear from you.
Shouldn't plant fertilizers and genus specific feeds contain all the elements including minerals those plants and animals require?
my shrimps breed like rabbits 🤣 omg. i have a 60L aquarium and at one point i had 100 or so shrimps. so bought 3 assassins snails. the numbers stay around 60 now.
Hi Rob, what brand of stick pellets you feed your crystal shrimp on 13:58? and Where to buy it? Thank you
I can never find a proper dosage for the gh / kh plus. Do you add a small amount and test over time? I have very soft tap water.
Thank you for that information. Especially on water parameters. Saved me some serious grief. :-)
This is the best video ever in history of shrimp keeping !!! A milestone!!! Probably the most onest, comprehensive, easy to understand and use video that shrimp lovers awaited for a long time. Great job Rob! Diesel Power! :)
excellent close up image quality Rob and very informative. Definitely going to refer to this when I set my shrimp tanks up. 2 questions I do have. first you mentioned in the video you heat the room and not heaters in the tank and hinted at a reason for this but did not elaborate. I am planning on making matten filters so could i put a heater behind the sponge or should i heat the room? Lastly when setting up shrimp tanks from new I have read a few times that the tanks should be well established. Is this true? if so how many months and is there a way to establish without sacrificing shrimp? Peace, Ben
How to i order shrimp in Canada 🇨🇦
why u look so cute boo boo
Just got into shrimp and got 25 cherry shrimp for my 30gallon. I regret not getting them a lot sooner. My question for you is I have a sponge filter and a Rena xp2 that's directed towards to surface. It creates a lot of current and is that too much current for the shrimps? I have mine at 75degrees. Thanks
I'm not sure how much flow the rena puts out but I wouldn't think so. As long as the shrimp have some dead spaces like under a rock, they will be fine
Fantastic video. Thank you so much! You went straight to the point and shared your knowledge with us, instead of beating around the bush like soooo many other "Shrimp Breeding" videos on RUclips. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel! Keep the vids coming coming and keep up the great work. Cheers!
great video dude, very informative and the shrimp look amazing :) keep up the awesomeness
What is the best shrimp u carry for beginners I have tap water I keep cichlids but want to start a shrimp tank
I learned the "Assassin snails kill shrimp" the bad way. Planted 10 gal with pond snails, shrimps, a Betta and a assassin snail. Turns out the Betta was hunting pond snails to a point the Assassin decided it could take on shrimps while they molt. Assassin snail moved to his own tank with pond snails. Problem solved.
this is a great video, one funny thing that happened to me is that I bought a tank without knowing anything and bought about 20 shrimp it was a shrimp only tank and they thrived without any of that mineral and ph things and I used tap water... is that normal?
when discussing KH/GH etc, you talk about degrees (i am assuming), could you let us know the ppm equivalent because when looking up a conversion table, there are a couple different degrees measurements.
+Aussie Fish Keeper great question and comment Aussie! I believe 1 degree is 18 ppm or roughly close to that
Thx, so its german degrees :) thought it might be but wanted to be sure.
+Aussie Fish Keeper always better to ask! Safe rather than sorry
You give me confidence to get to breeding freshwater shrimp
Thanks for the great video
Flip Aquatics cherry shrimp and darn near bullet proof. I've had mine for a little over a month with no deaths. Now I have shrimplets and another berried female. The cherries have continued to color up very nicely. I have never kept shrimp before these Flip Aquatic cherries.
Thank you Lumpy!! haha Glad you're loving the shrimp and they are doing well for you
Great video... so glad you went into the details of the water parameters. I have seen a lot of them (videos) but I liked how you went into details of the parameters as well as how to adjust them.
Excellent video!!! Thank you.
can you use spring water if you have a regular supplier and how if so?
Great video. Really good. question if I wanted to for Taiwan bees how do I get my pH 5.5. ?
Really would love the answer to this. Thx
+Fishy Snowman hey fishy! I would first do RO water remineralized with salty shrimp Gh + to a TDs of 100. Then I would use Ada africana. It tends to buffer the water really low
Very informative! I'd like to start a separate shrimp tank in future
Just what I was thinking about! Great Video Rob! You must be a mind reader 😉
i'm using purified water. is that OK too?
really informative thank you. What are you using as your substrate?
Could you make a video about green jade shrimp
Great video new sub
