Really enjoyed seeing this unexpected video on your channel! Something that I think could have been covered a bit more by Hugo, just to give a full picture to viewers who are not in the aquarium hobby - many of his high value shrimp seem to be caridina shrimp, not neocaridina, and caridina shrimp are more sensitive to water parameters and can be more difficult to keep as they have more specific water requirements. The reverse osmosis system he uses wasn't mentioned in the cost breakdown but would probably be necessary unless you are lucky to live in an area where the tap water matches caridina shrimps needs. The learning curve behind water parameters can be quite steep and if someone was to try to get straight into breeding caridina shrimp for profit without doing sufficient research they'd likely end up with a bunch of expensive dead shrimp! Shipping shrimp that are sold can also be tricky and pricy, I'm not sure if that was factored into the profits and costs discussed. The cost of setting up a new tank seems a bit high to me (or at least for my area). The filtration system would cost $30-35 max (including pump, tubing, and sponge). The tank would cost $25-30 (the reason that used tank was $50 is because it's rimless, rimmed tanks are far cheaper). The food and substrate will cost the amount listed ime. The R/O system isn't included in the pricing list, which would usually be the most expensive item, being between $100-200
Where in the world did you come up with these prices?! An air pump and sponge filter can be purchased new from a box store for $20. A tank can be on sale for $10, maybe $50 for a 20L not on sale. And rocks for $50?? That gravel is $3 a bag at Walmart!
7:30 Small correction: The sponge filter has nothing to do with pH, it is a breeding ground for the bacteria, that turn toxic waste products from the shrimp into less toxic Nitrate.
I'm not an expert and mostly know marine but causing surface agitation or bubbles in the tank is oxygen exchange, which will raise the pH so he's right in saying what he did.
@@toby3916 You are partially right. Surface exchange can increase pH. But this is not because of Oxygenation. Molecular Oxygen has no impacton pH. CO2 does. I breed caridina shrimps and do sell some on Band. You have to do some actual research if you want to get into this hobby or you will end up killing expensive shrimps and waste money. @@abrqzx There is actually a market for culled shrimp. Different neocaradina together in one tank is sold as "skittles". Usually, the lower-quality culled shrimp.
5$ for a "red cherry"??? those are beginner shrimp... costing about 1,20 to 2,- € here... are the prizes that high in the US? The other variants are that expensive and rare... but the simple red cherries... they have to be a really great line of breed.

Super interested in this. Not even for the selling aspect. But just having an aquarium for the kids. Do you think if to many were produced you could sell on fb marketplace?
why suck on the hose when you can put your thumb on one end and the other end in the tank as deep as possible. start to pull that end of the hose out until the water in the tube is over the edge and lower than the water line, then release thumb.
Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo.
I don’t get it.. I’ve been watching a lot of videos of breeders that say they have this hustle selling fish and shrimps, maybe the market in UK is not as good as America but is so hard to sell. And this prices are astronomical but that’s most videos . Is it just me that feels this way ? I don’t really see people talking about the real struggles of selling and getting a decent price for them . I’m not saying breeding fish or shrimps is easy , but for me at least the hardest part is selling.

Bro I’m not gonna lie I’ve always wanted to breed shrimp and I think they’re really cool.
Then why don’t do it?
I was surprised when I saw this pop up on my feed and had to double check the name. I sometimes watched you crypto/finance content and was not expecting to see a video like this. I appreciate you making the video and showing a side hustle like this!
we're branching out!
Don’t suck on it.
Just put more hose in the water close the tip outside of the tank and then pull of the water up with pressure once you move your finger gravity will take over 4:31
Shrimp - performs a natural camouflage adaptation with pretty colors
Humans - $$$
6:23 "its more like an aquarium at this point" nah girl chill your house plants are everywhere.
Those tank costs were :: exorbitant:: a sponge filter and air pump isn't even 20 or 25 combined on Amazon.
Actually india is so cheap that i medium size tank with curved glass costs over 45 to 50 bucks 😅
I find incomes based off of pets, feeders, and plants in your home so interesting.
The cost is sooo offf! Not even over $100 and you’ll get all of those things.
Fish tank 10gal $10-$20 petco normally always 50% off
Filter $4-$5 amazon
Air pump $10 Petco
Rocks : $8-$15 Petco
Food $4-$5 petco
Prove me wrong please. I breed fish
You don't need an aquarium for breeding shrimp, i use $10 plastic tubs from Walmart. I have definitely spent A LOT of money on my planted display tanks, but if it's just for breeding, you don't need fancy.
Making $5000 a month and don’t have a $20 proper water siphon…just suck on it! Pure gold…
People actually pay that much for shrimp? I'm in the wrong business!
The issue is there is very little demand. People do not those super expensive shrimp, but It's rare for sure
"I sell them on BAND app" is a totally unsatisfactory answer.
Looks and smells like an MLM - but shrimp instead of yoga pants.
Also, shocking lack of specifics "I could make thousands on some of those tanks - depending."
I breed caridina shrimps and do sell some on Band. You have to do some actual research if you want to get into this hobby or you will end up killing expensive shrimps and waste money. You will most definitely not be making $6000 a month from breeding shrimp. It's not to say you can't but odds are you won't. It's not a great video to use to listen to.
I got a few cherry shrimp from a friend. Now I have alot of cherry shrimp.
As long as you cull them correctly and respectfully, then this is a nice business.
Some of the culled shrimps are food for the bigger fishes lol
@@abrqzx There is actually a market for culled shrimp. Different neocaradina together in one tank is sold as "skittles". Usually, the lower-quality culled shrimp.
Got the purpose of sponge filter and substrate reversed... Filter keeps it clean and the substrate regulates pH.
5$ for a "red cherry"??? those are beginner shrimp... costing about 1,20 to 2,- € here... are the prizes that high in the US? The other variants are that expensive and rare... but the simple red cherries... they have to be a really great line of breed.
Nice video was cool to see the shout out
Water change- once you start siphoning water just put your thumb over the opening and you don’t have to rush to get the tube in the bucket
those prices are not correct, or else your paying extreme overprice in the US, the most expensive ones he has go for 15-20 dollars in denmark.
Maybe if you can find people who have nothing better to spend their money on . Im not spending $700 on a shrimp 😂
Love shrimp in tanks. They're good at cleaning up after other fish too, way more than just oranmental!
I don’t know where you get all these prices from but they’re way too high lol 40$ for an air pump? Is it gold plated?
in the US neocardina cherry shrimp go for $3-6 each
interesting. Pls make more videos about this it think it really opens ur mind to many possibilities of what you can make in this world!
These prices are way off or is it like that in America?
Thank you for making videos like these, do be enjoying to learn new things. Never thought theres such thing as shrimp breeding, hahhaha Thank you Humphrey!!
I like this content! If you can, do more of them!
Inspired me I'm working on breeding my flowerhorn.
What did he say after 9:27? Really weird cuts in this video..
Awesome video. I love shrimp too!!
in the UK all of these shrimp cost the same as any caridina shrimp... 5 pounds a piece or thereabouts.
Makes 5k$ a month on side hustle...lives in small ass apartment. You're not fooling anyone...
Super interested in this. Not even for the selling aspect. But just having an aquarium for the kids. Do you think if to many were produced you could sell on fb marketplace?
Yes they can sell that
Bro US is soo expensive!! 170-200 dollors for that set up ? I live in India and to set up the same in here it costs us around 80-90 dollors max 💯
Do I 100% need a sponge filter? Or would a regular filter work??
You can use any filter but put a pre-sponge on the intake so it doesn’t suck up the hatchlings.
why suck on the hose when you can put your thumb on one end and the other end in the tank as deep as possible. start to pull that end of the hose out until the water in the tube is over the edge and lower than the water line, then release thumb.
That and he’s obviously not selling 5k worth of shrimp a month with that dinky setup or he’s just G’in noobs 😂
@@samsterretsmas might be selling 5k in Zimbabwe dollars
Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo.
Thanks for sharing this is a crazy niche
I don’t get it.. I’ve been watching a lot of videos of breeders that say they have this hustle selling fish and shrimps, maybe the market in UK is not as good as America but is so hard to sell. And this prices are astronomical but that’s most videos .
Is it just me that feels this way ?
I don’t really see people talking about the real struggles of selling and getting a decent price for them .
I’m not saying breeding fish or shrimps is easy , but for me at least the hardest part is selling.
I love the heavy breathing, gets me all hot and steamy 😂
what are those photos on the fridge in time 1:06 my man
I want to know who to market the product to after you have the supply. 🤷♂️
Living in New Orleans, I thought you were going to do a video on commercial shrimp boats 😂
This guy just shared another mans hose 😂 wow 😂😅
Selling thousands of shrimp per month is not a side hustle. That's a full time job.
Whaaaaaaaaat??? I paid 20 bucks for a 20 gallon long at petco!! Wtffff that's a 10 gallon for 50???? Seriously?!?! Hell f-ing no!!! I'd understand if it was rimless but still omgggg
They’re selling a rimless 10 for 25 rn
Is this actually viable to make this much? Is that 5k revenue or profit? If it's revenue there's gotta be like 3k in expenses
Literally all the shrimp are around 10x as cheap here in the Netherlands
Here in the Philippines, shrimp is only $1 or less each 🤣
How much are the monthly expenses running a set up like this I wonder?
I was thinking of breeding my shrimp. Great side hustle. But man can you imagine an earthquake and his apartment get flooded.
I breed shrimps for fun and never thought of selling them. It's a hobby and it supposed to be enjoyable. You shouldn't buy them if you only want to make money on selling them and in fact it's not easy to breed them and you most likely fail if you don't know anything about shrimp
i agree its weird for humans to profit of a natural life cycle of another animal
What do you do with all the babies if you're breeding but not selling? keep getting more tanks?
Actually nvm I see your videos, tons of tanks 👍 cool hobby!
How many can fit in 1 aquarium
Got that sponge filter/substrate uses mixed a bit lol.
audio is kinda low, had to fully power my pc in order to understand
I just left 6th ave … u gotta be careful there they be having illegal fish … I seen sturgeon in there today 💯🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
omg i shop at that fish store too!!!
