I have a heavily planted tank with Taiwan bees, Thai micro crabs, green babaulti shrimp, amanos, and I just added a few blue neos. I love watching the tank!
I have a black panda/ king kong shrimp, they started off as panda shrimp and i basicly took out the darkest ones in a separate take and now they are all black. The temp where i live has warmed up and in the last 2 weeks the tank has been going crazy ! I think there is around 100 in there now and i have now counted about 18 berried !
Yes it would be pretty easy to share the journey you've taken with the shrimp in question and maybe close with odd bits of information about the tank for those curious. But the first 7 minutes isn't specifically about the shrimp. The 5 minutes about shrimp though were good info.
Seeing all those shrimp just reminds me of when my little snails decided to mate and I went from 5 snails to easily 500. Boy did they clean the tank though!
I started with two snails and ended up with sooo many! Whenever I prune the plants, I put the cuttings in a bucket of water because I can pick out snails months later that were probably eggs at the time of pruning. The only problem is that they poop so much that after a water change, the gravel gets covered in snail castings within 12 hours, and they don''t seem to be touching my hair algae.
@@aarongonzalez4458 get shrimp, pleco, or snails. they help so much with water changes in the long run. @julius time is incorrect. why clean it yourself when you can have an animal that benefits from cleaning it for you.
I threw just two red cherries in to my main tank after the great Betta massacre of '17. Three months later I had around one-hundred. Even with the odd one or two getting caught by my rainbows (if it moves it's food) they still breed like crazy and carpet the substrate at night. I call them water bunnies.
the Betta massacre of '17....lol. Ive been worried myself about reproduction and was going to introduce a Betta but I didnt want them all to die. Im probably pushing 100 in 2 months with 2 females already visibly pregnant again and they, the Red Cherry Shrimp, are my first inhabitants added for algae control. I know I know nutrients.....but they are handy. Its ending up turning into a shrimp only tank. I have read though that the numbers will grow to a critical mass and then supposedly the shrimp will stop breeding but Im not sure how true that is and it doesnt fully make sense to me. Time to experiment! Of course by that I mean do absolutely nothing and see how many the tank ends up holding. I have plenty other inactive tanks I can set up if it gets out of control etc.
i have a single ghost shrimp and i love him. i got him by accident when he swam into the bag when i was buying fish and the person never noticed and i only noticed on the way home.
The same thing happened to me with a Dwarf rainbow fish, when I was getting ghost shrimp... I named him hitchhiker... He is very aggressive to the other fish and I only have one tank so I don't know what to do
Hello I’m new to having shrimp, I just got three ghost shrimp yesterday. I bought them each for 59 cent at Petco in Charleston, West Virginia. This video is helping me a lot! and I can’t wait for them to breed!

This is why I love shrimp. A hundred bucks' worth of investment up front, and you have a lifetime supply of the little adorable bastards as long as you do a water change once in a while. Mike, you should've mashed that string algae into a spherical shape and called it a "Marimo Moss Ball."
They detangle back though. I know because i tried turing them into a marimo but they look nothing like a legit one (they start growing horizontally in rolls rather than out vertically from a core), and they eventually unravel overtime especially if you have stuff knocking it around
If you want to prevent algae in these tanks, stick some guppy grass in there. A two golf ball size clump can reduce nitrates from ~40 ppm to 5 ppm in 48 hours in a 55 gallon. And phosphate to near zero. I have it in all of my aquariums (including high tech showcase)
I haven't touched this aquarium other than to grab handfuls of guppy grass and cherry and crystal red shrimp to sell in weeks. Haven't done a water change in ~4 weeks or even cleaned the glass. The shrimp are reproducing like crazy. I recently changed the light and the guppy grass is a bit washed out today but it's' growing like crazy. Doubled in mass in 2 weeks. The parameters are amusingly pristine. @@bcol127 I was worried about that so I delayed putting it in my high tech showcase tank for months while I tried other tactics. Old post but still worth a reply, especially if someone wants to know. Snails are recommended with shrimp, helps them be healthier, I've not heard trumpet snails being a problem either.
One thing I would add is to know what your city water is treated with, chlorine or chloramine. I use an RO system, and if my city water was just chlorine, I could let the RO sit for a day or 2 to let the chlorine evaporate and then just add the GH/KH+, but my city uses chloromaine and this does not evaporate and is not removed with an RO system, so I typically do the following before a water change. Add Prime to the RO water and let it sit for 10min to 24hr. I add a heater and get the temp to match the tank. This also gives you a better TDS reading vs cold water. I then add GH/KH+ and TDS to the desired parameter.
Thanks for the video. I have been considering a Shrimp tank and this sparks my desire for it even more. Though you make it seem simple, it is consistency as you mentioned in keeping things HEALTHY!! Thanks for being a Great Hobbyist and sharing your knowledge!

What kind of rocks can we use with shrimp? I was given some ohko stone(also known as dragon rock) and I can't really find any info if it safe to use or if it will mess with the water parameters
Don't worry about it messing it up Ohko stone is inert. It's completely fine to use with any shrimp and acts as a shrimp hiding spot and breeding ground. Seiryu stone is the one that makes the water more acidic

What do you feed your shrimpies? I seem to be having issues finding the right food for them. Im iffy about the Hikari feed due to it apparently having trace amounts of copper in it but.. im not sure if its harming them or not , the other i tried that so call japanese feed but it clouded the water bad and that was just one pellet!!! they seem to really love the fancy fish food I gave them and dont seem to like the plecowafers too much so im open to all ideas of feeding
Go to 7:03 for the breeding information.
@@DownWithComcast ok thanks I was given like 2 pounds of it and wasn't sure if it was inert or not.
@@victorg7036 np man just trying to help
Is oxygen surface agitation required? A bubbler. Looks like you dont have one
