- In this video I turned a small lidded box. The finial was done with the Joyner off-center jig and is out of Monkeypod wood.

Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We also do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning.

Gorgeous! Love the finial as well, turned out beautiful! This is the first time I've seen monkeypod turned, tuned out stunning! Great job Carl! It's always nice to show us sometimes it doesn't come out perfect the first time. :) Also, I have to laugh every time you have to explain the mustard! LOL

Merry Christmas to you and Robin. Great piece and thanks for showing the first two attempts as it will make me feel better the next time my piece explodes on the lathe. Love the finial, currently turning some finials for Christmas ornaments (I know I’m late) will try an off center finial using my Joyner.
Lastly, you donated some items to Wood Turners of North Texas at SWAT and I was the lucky one to take them home, thanks for supporting our club.

I always enjoy your videos and often watch them several times - so I may have already commented on this video. Do you let fellow turners visit your studio? If so, where is it? I am planning a trip to Lebanon, Oregon this summer to stay with a friend. Are there any workshops or seminars in Oregon this summer that I could plan my trip around ? You are a great source of inspiration, thank you for sharing your expertise.

Awesome box Carl. Love that maple burl and the shape. I really like the finial and the technique you used to shape it. Appreciate the perseverance it took to get a good box -- I guess that's one of the limiting factors with burl, running into punky spots. Merry Christmas to you, Robin, and your family.
