Seth, I'm blown away at just how beautiful this box is! The contrast between the top and the bottom is stunning. The ebony finial is so complimentary. Awesome craftmanship! Thanks!
Thanks so much! That really means a lot and I’m so glad you liked it! I poured my heart and soul into this one. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever made.
New to your channel and gosh it was so worth watching. You are a master of your craft and if that gorgeous box has been produced with the intention of containing a gift, forget the gift as I would rather have the box.
I'm nothing but jealous of of you precision and flowing form design on this piece and jealous of your Laguna beast you running lol Top Job SUB!!! BTW nice to see the UK woodturning Gang in the comments!!!!
Wow! The cherry is beautiful to begin with. And your design is top notch. The ebonized bottom is GORGEOUS! Your lid is spot on. And the finial is simply drop dead gorgeous. This is a brilliant piece. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Hi Mark! Thank you watching! I would love to take a class with Jimmy as well, he was a big inspiration for me when I first started turning. I’m really glad you like this one, I hope I did Jimmys original design justice! Haha!
Hi Robert. I’m quite jealous, I’m sure that was an awesome class! 😁 You’re so right, Jimmy is a great inspiration. He certainly had a big impact on me when I was first starting out!
Hi Brent! Thanks for stopping by and watching! This my first attempt at ebonizing cherry. I think it turned out well enough to give it another go sometime! 😂
Thank you so much, it has been great journey learning to make things like this, and I can’t wait for the next step! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Give it a go, Tim! I’d love to see some more square pieces from you! Also, check out the demos from Jimmy Clewes that I linked in the description. That’s where I drew my inspiration for this piece. They are super informative!
Would it be possible to see a picture of your dust collector arm/stand set up? The little bit shown on this (outstanding!) video seems like what I have been looking for. Many thanks in advance. Ivan Michigan USA
Hi Ivan! Thank you for your kind words! The setup I’m using is the one from Woodturners Wonders. I have the full track system, but you can buy just the dust collector arm by itself, without the rest of the attachments. I’d be happy to send you some pictures. Hit me up on my email. BrickhouseCraftWorks@gmail.com
What I think! For starters Jimmy Clewes is someone great to get inspiration from. What I think about this piece, it is OUTSTANDING. Two beautiful pieces of wood, beautiful lines, beautiful coloring and beautiful finish. 👍👍 What I think about your production is not so positive. The speed up video makes the process seem so frantic. 😟😟I don't need to see every cut you make. It would be more pleasing to watch if you just show the most important cuts at real speed. The sanding and finish was better. And you kept the finish labels on screen long enough for these old eyes to read them. 🙂Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe. 🙂🙂
Hi Glen, thank you so much for your kind words! I really do appreciate your criticism, both the good and the bad. It’s not always easy to keep the videos short enough that folks don’t lose interest without speeding them up but, I will definitely keep your comments in mind for my next video. Thanks so much!
@@BrickhouseCraftWorks I get the same response from others. "Have to keep the video short". I don't advocate making the video longer. Devote the same amount of time to the parts you speed up. You show the same amount of time but in real time. So instead of showing 50 cuts so fast you show 5 cuts but in real time. You just pick the parts that are most interesting and or important. OK so now I am off the soap box.
Nice work, really like the shape of the bottom piece and the finial is a work of art. What is that "Ebonizing Fluid" that you used on the bottom? BTW you have a new subscriber.
Thanks so much, I’m so glad you liked it! The ebonizing solution is called iron acetate. It’s simply steel wool that is dissolved in white vinegar. It reacts with the tannins in the wood and makes it turn dark like that. Thanks for the sub!! Same to you.
Haha! Yessir, it was inspired by Jimmy! The sanding sealer worked great, and I liked it much better than my homemade thinned down shellac. I know, I know….vacuum chuck is on the list! Lol
