Woodturning - Projects That Sell - Walnut Yo-Yo
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.Год назад
In this video, I turn a classic pastime enjoyed by many. For me, it was definitely a chance to connect back to my roots. When I was a teenager, I was obsessed with a yo-yo. It was nice to revisit that time, and create my own version that I can enjoy forever. My entry into @JordanWoodwerx challenge for the month of June: #yoyochallenge2023 was turned from a piece of claro walnut and assembled wi...
Woodturning - Lego Megafigure Accessories
Просмотров 471Год назад
A few months back, I had a client reach out and ask if I could make a custom helmet and air tanks for his wooden Lego Spaceman Megafigure. I made them out of big leaf maple, and tried to replicate an actual Lego Minifigure as closely as possible. I hope that you enjoy it! This AWESOME Megafigure featured in the video is made by Radsquirrel Woodworking. In addition to the custom Lego Megafigures...
Woodturning - THE ULTIMATE Blanton's Display 🥃
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
About 3 years ago, one of my closest friends REALLY got into bourbon, especially Blanton's Bourbon. Naturally, he started collecting all of the Blanton's stoppers. He asked me then if I could make him a display, and told me that it didn't have to be anything special. But, for the last 3 years, I've been pondering just how to make a stopper display that is truly unique, and special. For those wh...
Woodturning - Claro Walnut Vase 🏺
Просмотров 2 тыс.2 года назад
During 2020, I went on a bit of a shopping spree for burls, and turning blanks that I don't run across locally very often. Most of these were very wet at the time of purchase and have been sitting coated in wax to dry. I've just been biding my time but, I thought that it was time to finally turn one of the Claro Walnut burl pieces that I had. During the turning process, it had some of the crazi...
Woodturning - Ebony and Cherry Square Oriental Box
Просмотров 53 тыс.2 года назад
The first true woodturning demonstration that I ever watched on RUclips was Jimmy Clewes' turning a square oriental box. At the time, I tried my hand at turning it and it was mildly successful. I ran across one of Jimmy's demos just the other day so, I thought it would be fun to try this project again after gaining 2 years of experience, and also add my own little flair to the design. Let me kn...
Woodturning - Cherry Crotch Calabash
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 года назад
This is my attempt at a traditional Hawaiian Calabash bowl, made from a piece of cherry that I harvested at my family farm. The wood was originally a crotch piece but, when we cut it off of the log the crotch piece split. I had some cracks and crevices that forced me to take the bowl smaller than I intended and, as a result, the proportions are not exactly what a true Hawaiian Calabash bowl sho...
Cutting Trees Makes a BIG Splash!
Просмотров 2262 года назад
Join me for a road trip to the farm for some fun with a chainsaw and some scenery along the way! We had a lot of trees that we needed to take down this autumn at the farm. Most of the trees that were harvested were already dead and harvested for firewood, while others were alive but, needed to be removed to clean up around one of our ponds. Especially one large poplar that was on the dam of the...
Woodturning - The Blue Laced "Footbowl"
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.3 года назад
This is my first video after a several month hiatus so, I thought I'd go big!! I've had this piece of red oak for over a year now and, although it was sealed soon after it had been cut, it had more cracks than I thought it would. After rough turning the bowl, I let it dry for about a month, then turned it down to it's final dimensions. Afterwards, I used powders from Alumilite and thin CA from ...
Laguna 1836 Rotisserie Build
Просмотров 4193 года назад
In this video I take the information presented by Zac Higgins in his rotisserie build video (linked below) and apply it to my Laguna 1836. It should be noted that these instructions are pretty specific to a @LagunaTools lathe since the hand wheel is already tapped with 5/8-11 thread. However, with a little ingenuity, these instructions can likely be applied to other brand lathes. All of the ite...

What is the wood ebonizing solution you use??
Hello! Thanks for watching. It’s an iron acetate solution. It’s made by dissolving #0000 steel wool in white vinegar. Wash the steel wool in water and Dawn to remove the oil film that’s present in new steel wool. After it’s dried place the steel wool in a glass jar and cover with white vinegar. The best vinegar is that designed for cleaning rather than cooking but, any vinegar will do. Leave it until all the steel wool dissolves. Make sure you either poke holes in a lid, or cover with plastic so that gasses can escape and it doesn’t explode. After a few days, when all the steel wool is dissolved, you can strain out the excess bits, rust, and funkiness from the liquid then apply to the wood. Now, this only works for woods that have a high tannin content. This video was cherry which worked better than I expected, but not nearly as well as something like oak. You can increase the tannin content of any wood though by applying a black tea solution to the wood and allow it to dry, then apply the ebonizing solution. Hope this helps!!

Beautiful and elegant. Really first class yo-yo
Thanks Wayne! I was pretty happy with how it finished! Appreciate you watching!
Really nice! I like that hardware!
Thanks Chris! Me too! I will say, that the axle is kinda slippery so it’s tough for the string to grip it. But, after using it awhile it breaks in and works pretty well!
So very good to see you again. Your yo-yo is great. I really like the kit you used. And the voice of walnut is fabulous. Super good job.
Thanks so much, Doug! It was good to have had some time to put together a video, and you’re right, that walnut is beautiful! Thanks so much for watching, my friend!
Looks great
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
