Hello my friend. A piece of wood that you accidentally saw on the road. And it turned into a magnificent work of art. The patterns of this tree are beautiful, but I don't know the type. You've done a very nice sanding process. And the result turned out to be really good. It's a great bowl. I admire your skills. Congratulations. See you. Stay healthy and happy. Big greetings.
Haha! I’m glad someone did! I was quite irritated with myself! If you notice, I ALMOST turned the lathe on before deciding to check it by hand first. Thank goodness I didn’t cause it would have been completely destroyed! Thanks for watching Dave!
Thanks David! I really appreciate it! I subbed to you too after watching the Makers Podcast tonight where Jake gave you a shout out! Thanks for the sub, man!
I really like the "character" it has. You did great Seth! Good entry for the challenge. Thanks for sharing your creativity with me again. Stay safe, Vickie
Hi - you are right - it had a lot of defect but those holes almost look like ornaments added to that bowl on purse. That FOG would have rotten by the road - now it is a bowl. Great job!
Thanks for sharing and for visiting my channel.. Returning Support with Full View and Like.. Hope your week is going well.. That depth gauge is a cool tool to have.. I didn't even think to scrap out all the holes in my buggy bowl lol.. Nice work..
It was my pleasure, Allen! I appreciate you visiting my channel as well! You know, that depth gauge has been such an excellent tool but, I keep forgetting to use it!! 🤦🏻♂️🤣 Thanks for watching buddy!
LOL, thanks Tim! Yeah, it was more than frustrating, that's for sure! But, thankfully I was able to save it for the most part. Thanks for watching man!
Thanks Jiggsy! I'm really glad that you liked it! It was definitely a tough one but, I agree, the bug holes definitely give it plenty of character! Thanks for watching man!
Stunning bowl Seth, hearing you sigh (at that critical moment) was felt here. Know the pain well 😢 However, the end result is stunning. You shaped it well, you gave it a great thickness and the finish makes the colours and grain really stand out. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍
Thank you Brent! At first I was concerned about going so thin, afraid the bug holes would end up cracking. But, it worked out rather well! Thanks for watching!
Hi Ray! Thanks for watching! Initially I thought I’d pitch the rest of that log but, I do have a longer piece that would serve well as a goblet! Great idea!
Hahaha! Thanks Emmett, that really means a lot man! Yeah, it was definitely a disappointing moment! But, I think it still turned out ok after a little sanding! Thanks for watching brother!
Nicely done. Wondered how you’d deal with the boo-boo. Worked out well the way you did it. I also agreed with cleaning out the big trails, either all full or all empty. Good job on this challenge.
Thank you Doug! Yeah it was a tad disappointing, especially when I couldn’t find the piece that broke off. 😂 After it was all sanded up though, couldn’t hardly tell. Really appreciate your kind words! They mean a lot!
That piece of wood looks like Oak to me but it doesn't matter. The bugholes make the character; a worthy candidate for the challenge. You really went the extra mile on this one. Personally I would have left the recess in there. Quite risky to take it out on such a punky piece, and the bottom was already pretty thin. It also adds some extra weight to the bottom which is good for stability. But this was your piece and it came out great.
Thank you Leo! I don’t think it was oak because it sure didn’t smell like oak to me but, as you said, it doesn’t really matter. 😂 Yeah, I struggled with whether to make a tenon or a mortise, but decided on the mortise because the tenon would have had bug hole sawdust and I was afraid of it. I would have normally left the mortise as well but, since I’d gotten that jig, I felt confident I had plenty of material left to turn away. I appreciate you watching and taking time to comment, as well as your kind words!
Great piece! I hate breaking off the rim on the tool rest! I'm thinking I wish I would of went with that package from WW to hold sanding port....I saw it was on sale....
😂 Yeah, it sucked! If you notice though, I averted complete disaster because I ALMOST turned the lathe on and thought, “nah, I’d better check this first”....*crunch* I really like the sanding holder, and this was the first time I’d really used the depth gauge to any extent. Both of them I think are worth the investment.
Hey Japie! Glad you liked it! I’m not on IG, but please reach out to me on email! I’d love to do a sticker swap with you! BrickhouseCraftWorks@gmail.com

Great find Seth, I like the thinness, it really sets off the piece
Thank you Brent! At first I was concerned about going so thin, afraid the bug holes would end up cracking. But, it worked out rather well!
Thanks for watching!
Looks beautiful! I wonder if some elevation would also work? A goblet? The patterning is wonderful to look at. All the best. Ray

Hoping things slow down some around here so I can get back to filming again.
Fabulous! You took that down much thinner then I would dare go. I feel your pain on the cracked edge. 😞 BUT looks good in the end, regardless.
Thank you Jay! Yeah, it was disappointing, thankfully it all buffed out! 😂
Appreciate you watching!
