Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We also do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning.
Carl, sei un grande. continua sempre così. grazie
Grazie molte!
👍👍👍
Poor Robin 🥹 still not feeling well but being a great camera woman!
Thanks Mark!! ❤️
Very nice! What size beading tool are you using for this particular project?
Thank you!! It's the 3/16"
That's a beautiful pendant! Thanks for demonstrating the jig - very cool.
Thank you very much!!
Wow! That turned out awesome! And those pictures of the others..insane! Can’t wait to use mine. #belikecarl
Thank you brother!! The only limit is your imagination!
Carl this turned out beautiful!! That heading tool looks much different than the ones I'm use to seeing. What size is that one? Another stunning piece for real!
Thank you buddy!! It's a D-Way 3/16" It's my favorite one!
@@CarlJacobson thanks! I was looking at getting the two tool set. What other size would you recommend?
Awesome video Carl!!! Now that I have seen the jig in use, I can see the endless possibilities!!! Super cool.
Thank you brother!! It really is awesome!
Beautiful pendant Carl! That’s quite an awesome jig!
Thank you very much Seth! It really is cool!!
Have you ever heard of a "Saueracker Shell"? It's a similar technique but produces a much more interesting pattern. I've turned quite a few myself but unfortunately little information exists online about them.
I've never turned one, but a friend of mine turned one a long time ago. Here's a link if you haven't seen it, ruclips.net/video/QuMjAVsQuGE/видео.html
very cool little jig ya got's there Carl............BLESS YOU Robin :D
lo Thank you Jamie!! It's a great jig!!
Great video, the necklace with earings would make a great Christmas present.Where can I purchase an offset Mandrel.
Thank you!! Here's the link to the jig, and the mandrel comes with it. nilesbottlestoppers.com/product/joyner-off-set-complete-kit/
The one issue I have with mrs. niles' jig is that it ain't safe to use if you have a midi or mini lathe. your robust beastie is good as it weighs what 700 or 800 pounds. using it on a 100 pound midi is just asking for trouble personally. I had one some 8 or so years ago, sold it before I actually used it. tested it out and it shook the (Expletive!) outta my lathe and I had it bolted down to a 250 pound bench too.
I'm not sure what you were turning, but it sounds pretty heavy. She's sold hundreds of these to people with small lathes, and you're the first person that has said there was a problem. This jig is for pendants, bottle stoppers, and small boxes etc. We had someone demonstrating them at the last show on a Jet mini lathe just on a stand with no problems.
bless you!
That is so pretty!! I hope you and Robin feel better soon!!!
She's definately sneezing better 😁
Thank you!!
Thank you!!
What tool are you using when you make the bead cut?
It's a D-Way beading tool
I have the older model. I like the upgraded version
The older model is still really cool, but this gives you a few more options.
HI carl u r good infact very good.
Thank you so much!!!
Great job. Thanks
Thank you Doug!!
Brilliant Carl.
I have just bout the Robert Sorby Eccentric Chuck System so looking forward to trying something like this one it when I can pick it up from a friend of mine.
Great video carl.
Take care.
Cheers, Huw
Thank you buddy! That's great and you're going to love it! Have a good one!
Carl! Awesome as always. Do you have a link to buy the off centre plate and bottle stopper mandrel please? Never seen them here in the UK 🇬🇧 hugs to Robin xx
Thank you so much Claire!! ❤
Here's a link :) nilesbottlestoppers.com/product-category/off-center-jig/
Thanks for the demo! I need to use that jig more! Pendants look killer! Hope you guys are feeling gooder! 😃
Thank you brother! Have fun with it!
That's really nice, Carl. I'm glad to see you back to doing your eccentric (get it? eccentric double meaning?) turnings again.
Bill
lol Thank you Bill!!
Very nice, I’ll need to add that jig and the beading tool to my “need to buy” list. BTW, we spoke at SWAT about chucks and I did take your advice. Thanks, Hope you two get to feeling better sooner.
Thank you Jerry!! I'm glad I could help, you're going to love the chuck!
Shopping list: Niles offset jig, beading tool, and double sided tape. Great ideas Carl, and welcome to Texas we have four seasons, cedar, ragweed, grass, and hay fever.😏
LOL Thank you Don!!
Hi Carl Great demo! I'm assuming you can use the Niles tapered mandrel in this operation. Did I also correctly that everything you need to this pendant comes with the jig.
Thank you very much Charles!! Yes everything comes in the kit, including the mandrel. The jig mandrel doesn't have the flute cut in it, so there's less chance of cross threading the jig.
Great idea with the beading tool. I'll be using the Easy Wood beading cutters when I try this. Thanks
Thank you! It's a fun project.
If you drilled out the mounting hole using a brad-point bit before shaping the area around the hole, you could probably minimize the amount of sanding that you have to do while also managing the thickness of the wood immediately surrounding the hole.
I've made lots of these - they make great zipper pulls for sweaters and fleece jackets.
Great tip! Thanks!
Hola Carl! Gracias por compartir tan excelente trabajo! Felicitaciones! Un abrazo!
Germán, Montevideo, Uruguay.
¡Muchas gracias!
Looks good Carl. I bought that jig from Ruth several years ago but haven't used it much. If it's the same jig Ruth was selling years ago there is an excel spreadsheet program out there that will let you input the holes you are thinking of using, size of pendant and it will draw the the finished pendant for you. Saves guesswork as to what the finished pendant will look like. It also works with the open office spreadsheet and it's free for those who don't want to pay the big bucks Microsoft wants. Also works on my android tablet.
Thank you Rick!! With the link I put in the description the PDFs are on that page, but I should of mentioned that in the video! Yes it's the same jig Ruth has been selling :)
Loved your video. Thank you for the goose stopper that is what I am going to try and make first I have the stopper on display with Mike Mahoney plater and Stuart Batty’s bowl and Tod Raines miniature dish
Thank you Rick! It was nice seeing you at the show!
Excellent video Carl! Hope that you guys feel better soon! Be well & stay safe! Have a terrific weekend! 👍👍
Thank you so much Steve!! Have a good weekend :)
Great demo and beautiful pendant, Carl! Enjoying the new camera work, also.
Thank you so much Jay!! It's the same camera work, (Robin does all the filming) but maybe a different style? This video we wanted to show the whole prosses.
I've seen the offset fixture before but not demonstrated this well. It's now on my definitely needed list. 👍👍Thank you for sharing. Get well soon. 🙂🙂
Thank you so much Glen!! You're going to love it!

Thank you Val ❤ We're getting better :) Take care!!
Cool pendant looks beautiful . I got your gift a week and a half ago I sent you an email just wanted to thank you again I love. Feel better guys take care .
Thank you so much Glen! I'm glad it got there safe and you love it :) I saw the email but we were in pretty bad shape :( We're getting back to normal now though! Take care buddy!!
I love the fact it has some sort of fractal style to it, like a seashell made of burl. Is it my imagination or did I see a psychedelic Death Star in the other ones you did? Glad you're both back making videos!
Thank you so much Alex!! lol Maybe? Those are from our gallery on the Niles website.
Lots of possibilities with this. Haven’t had a chance to use mine yet, but looking forward to doing so. Hope you and Robin get to feeling better soon
Thank you so much Mark! Have fun!
Nice video Carl. One could do a lot of cool patterns with that jig. You two get to feeling better and thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Mark!!
Thanks for sharing this Carl. These are pretty cool and just another reason why we don't have scrap wood.
Thank you Jimmy!! I agree 100%

That's a nice little gadget! I may have to order one. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Jim!! It's a great little jig!
Pretty neat Carl. More toys for the lathe and more things to do with wood scraps. Well done.
Thank you Jack!! Definitely a lot of fun!
Something like this makes me rethink whether I want to invest in a lathe, I reckon even with a mini lathe this would work a treat
You can do a lot with a mini lathe, it's a lot of fun!! I had one for years!
beautifully done .. cheers Tim
Thank you Tim! Cheers!
Thanks! That's an awesome jig!
Thank you Lewis!! It really is :)
