@RcWoodturning If you do, you might want to put an o-ring or something at the widest point, to cut down the noise of it banging off the tiles when it's pulled.
I made one similar a few years ago from purple heart with a ferro rod inserted. I keep it on my work keys so i always have a flint striker handy if needed. That cherry is beautiful! I have a good bit at home and youve got me wanting to make another!

No sanding sealer or finish to protect the wood. In time, the current ones will crack and split. I always add a couple drops of CA on screws to help hold in place stronger. The tiny screws will pull out in time as well.
I've never actually used a lathe before but it seems like that rear support should be spinning so it doesn't cause friction on the work piece. It looks like it's stationary. Did I win the prize?
That wasn't the mistake, but I'll give you a win. Your right. The live center should be spinning with the wood, but it wasn't tightened up to the wood. That's why it wasn't spinning. Appreciate you watching!

I could see that being an even better seller with figured wood, but that's hard to find in small branches. Plum wood, now.... Oh, yeah! Creamy sapwood, dark heartwood. Hmmmm....and I just happen to have some long small trunks..... Cha ching! 😁 👍
Not sure the mistake you mean. Honestly what I pick up on: At the beginning you put the branch in the chuck, and then forced the angle you wanted with the tailstock. So when you take the tailstock off later things get really wobbly. I'd be inclined to, at the beginning, chuck it, and then make a tenon at the tailstock end, and then flip it around. that way later when the tailstock is pulled off, you still have the chuck enforcing the same axis you've been turning with all along. (and making it easier to sand the ends, drill them, etc...)

Some Olde Timey toilets used to have overhead tanks and you would flush them by pulling a chain. The chains would have handles something like these. That's what I was thinking of as I watched this -- though I was pretty sure "hot selling" wouldn't apply to such an item. 😁

Ya. I've never hit the chuck that I know of with the tool. There was no nick in the tool so I don't think it hit it. I do get involved in what I'm doing and go off the tool rest sometimes. I need to get better with that.
I see three mistakes in the first 40 seconds: You didn't lock the tailstock at 0:05 (that is definitely a mistake), you left the chuck key in the chuck a couple of seconds later (dangerous) and your toolrest didn't go far enough left so your tool fell off it right next to the chuck. Dangerous and unnecessary. At 6:01 you seem to have missed out facing/finishing the end that was in the tailstock, though, if it's going to get an eye screwed into it I guess it doesn't matter.
You didn't apply a finish and you didn't burnish them either. (Yes, you did sand them). Plus the second one which was still in the chuck, may have ended up with some chattering on the end (which was in the middle) because it bounces or vibrates more without a tail stock, or your third hand, holding it. Nice work! I love turning small things, they are so cute and useful, if not ornamental as well. I was told that all fruit wood from fruit trees is great for woodturning, so far in my experience, that is true... fruit wood is often free or cheap, yet classy too!

The only mistake i see is using the wrong live centre. You need to use a cup live centre because the one being used with continue to work into the end grain as you wind it forward and split the piece.

Welding wire works well but ALWAUS make handles for it never just hold the wire , one catch and fingers gone
