Parking Garage Stealth Camping

- I camped for the night hidden in my SUV in a parking garage, or parkade depending on what you call them. I needed to apply for my passport and the lines are notoriously long unless you're there first thing in the morning. Let's be honest, first thing in the morning is not my friend so I decided to camp out to be there bright and early. The garage was quite hot, but the camping was nice and stealthy.

Reminds me when I first emigrated to a new country and didn't have any money so I was sleeping in my storage unit with my shipped belongings for a few weeks until I found a job, and was always paranoid about security noticing me. One morning I made my way to the bathroom for a shave before the place opened at 7.00 am, and there were two other guys in the bathroom who told me they had been doing the same thing for about 6 months. They said there was no permanent out of hours security but that mobile security always showed up around 3 am for half an hour or so. After that we would meet up in each other's units after lights went out most evenings for a chat and a game of chess.
I was homeless for a good while and decided to travel. Ended up in a mountain town an hour west of Denver and did basically the same, but in a broken down old camper trailer. A couple with an RV once asked me if I was okay and I was like yeah man just traveling in my youth. They gave me a new blanket, made me some spaghetti, and took me for a ride to a beautiful waterfall. Two years later about a month ago I began a move to a new city after having finally settled out of homelessness. I went to a local sporting event and they were sat right next to me. They didn't recognise me but I never forgot them. Stories like yours remind me of this time in my life where I was completely helpless. Thank you for the indulgence.

I've lived in my Audi A6 for the past 8 months. As long as you are respectful and make a small 'footprint', people and security kind of just leave you alone. I encourage people to try stealth camping for a week or longer - it's incredible freedom.
Freedom from what?
@@piggy310 Freedom from the confines of proper society, I assume. If anything, it is a good learning experience on how to make the best of what you have if you are in a tough situation. As an American, that's one thing I'll always be a little jealous about life in the EU. There are so many little countries with different cultures within driving/train ride distance of each other.
Where I am, you can drive for 24 hours and still be in the same region of the US. And don't even consider the train here. We don't have a large interconnected high-speed rail network, just older trains and some very limited networks in Flordia and a few other places.

This reminds me of my homeless days. I was homeless for four years. One year I spent several months camped just 10 yards deep into some woodlands directly abutting a library. There was a Planet Fitness just a couple blocks away so I'd ride my bicycle down there and take a shower at 6am. In the winter the foliage was too sparse so I moved to another, larger woodlands a bit further way.
I’m pretty convinced at this point if the police ever roll up on Steve in a stealth camp, they will ask for a selfie rather than his I.D. 😂 Great video, Steve!

I slept in a Parking Garage in St Augustine, Florida once. I was in town kinda late and since I was already parked there, I just crashed out in it. Way cheaper than looking for a motel. Worked out just fine.
If you'd pitched to TV producers a show where a neurotic man dares himself to stay overnight in places where it's semi-legal to do so, they'd have probably turned you down. Now here's Steve with 1.5+ million subscribers laughing all the way to the bank Hahahaha
You're the best, Steve! Keep 'em coming!
I installed a lot of equipment in parking garages and I can tell you one thing. They do not care if you sleep in your car. They care more about property damage, break ins, and car thieft because they have to write a report up. The owners may care if you sleep in your car, but the people getting paid to keep an eye out do not.
So glad I’ve stumbled across this channel. It’s like ‘the outdoor boys’ channel but instead of crazy cold places and the middle of nature it’s just random urban places.
Love it!!!
Steve, your videos work better than any antidepressant I have ever tried. And I've tried a lot. Please don't ever stop making these videos!
I get really happy to see you, Steve. Thanks for always being here. In honor of the man himself, I'd like to think we in the US are the "Crazy Neighbor" to you in Canada.
Camping with Steve deserves a Emmy and Oscar. Never quit, Steve!
I’ll keep filming, if you guys keep watching 😉

You can count on it! @@campingwithsteve
I thought you said from a “shower or a concert” So I’m thinking🤔 “Steve where exactly are you?”🤭
I just wanna say; I love your videos. They're always fun and inspiring. I feel like a weight is lifted from me when I watch you get into these shenanigans, and I usually learn something on top of that. As a person who's camped in many questionable places, lived out of my car, and spent months on end camping around the states, I'm really happy to have found your channel. I like your style, never stop hankerin' for a hunkerin'! Can't wait to crack a step 2 and sleep under the stars again.
Always good to see more stealth camping. Hope you’re doing well Steve!
Thanks, I am!
You make us all smile, thanks Steve!
Glad to have you back Steve!

This is adorable ❤ Steve, playing out his next weird idea to the fullest. Tension, laughs, Japanese food: we're all there with him, thinking that he should have worn a sleep mask. Blessings. Ty for sharing your weird adventure. Congrats on the new passport🎉
Love this channel...proves the point..."Sure you can do it... but why wound you want to? " At 18 i went on a 8 week motorcycle trip on a very limited budget. Slep in the strip of trees between the opposing lanes on US interstates. Lots of tiny nats and loud trucks all night. Sucked! I slept with my head inside my bedroll... not ideal in summer heat.
I love the little smirk that comes across Steve’s face when he realizes that his stealthiness passes the test.
Might be that drunk walk too
that security guard looked bored as hell! Lol. Keep them coming Steve! Another classic! Good to have you back! Recently got a tesla model 3. Seats fold down and you can fit a mattress in the back. Teslas are great because you can run climate control all night and it doesnt drain the battery much. Very cozy to to sleep in. Mine has the darkest tint there is on the Back/top/rear glass is . Nobody can see in at al when you're in the back. Even standing right next to the car. Excited to take it on some stealth adventures inspired by you of course!
Please use your passport to come to England. So many stealthy opportunities! So many step 2 opportunities! And the food is so bad that bringing a camping stove is a must anyway! Ha.
Love your work. Glad you’re back in rhythm. Your videos make my week! 🎉
I just prepared my dinner and there you have it, new Steve video! You have some great timing, my man! Cheers from Czech Republic!
Passport, sounds good and Steve's Big Adventure series. Good Luck!
Fingers crossed!
Tacoma with a SoftTopper. My two youngest boys are on travel soccer clubs and we park with the overnight merchandisers at Lowe's or Home Depot when we're able to drive. Saves us $400-500 a weekend on team accommodations during the spring and fall. Most of our winter travel is to Seattle, so we can usually stealth during the winter, too.
The more often you walked past the security guard the more he's thinking "what is that guy up to!" 😂
I was thinking that too lol
All he needed to do was edit in the ! sound effect from Metal Gear Solid.
Nah he’s just counting down the hours until he gets to go home 😂

Wife and I do the same. We upgraded to the Rav4 and got a new 22 model. We've been doing 3-4 road trips a year.
We cut plywood in sections to add extra support in the back. 4in memory foam topper we fold in half so it's quite comfy. Got window screens. Battery and fan. We watch our phones. Got a hitch and cargo carrier for our cooler and things.
We love it. Been to Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Alabama, Utah.
Next years our big one. Vegas 😊
Security guard: "There's Steve. I'll keep him safe. "
He probably knows who he is, but he gets stealth anywhere😂
"for the peace o the kingdom"
I worked security for a number of years in St.Louis. You usually could pick out the campers. I never bothered them as long as they didn't cause problems, and most didn't.
I've taken care of so many family members in my life. Walked a million miles in hospital corridors. Slept in waiting rooms and cars. Eaten so much crappy oveepriced food there. You bring back many memories. Glad yours went smoothly. Your better at it than I am.
I was thinking he'd be better off in a hospital garage. Ours are free and no one cares if you sleep in your car.
Haha I clicked and was like.....I've never seen this video before.....
🤦♀️ you just posted! 😁👍🏽🍻❤
