I have been subbed to you for over a few yrs now and I just admire what you do and how much hard work and care that goes into everything you do. I definitely recommend a 12"x12"x18" for a baby crestie, that's what I used. Some people use a tiny carrier for a hatchling, which works well too. They're sooooo small ❤

    I got a hatchling in September and she went straight into a 45x45x60 fully bioactive tank and shes thriving, just made sure she was eating drinking and pooing, handled her everyday after a week of leaving her alone and I’ve never had a lizard act the way she does, the tamest gecko i have ever come across! :) now waiting to upgrade her to the 90x45x60 !!

  • @Frostmute19

    Woo Crested gecko fam unite! I kept Ziri in a big critter keeper to monitor her as a tiny baby (she was a couple months old). I curled in a fake vine in there to let her have cover of course so that worked well to start. I readied her big 18 X 18 X 36 tank during that time. Once she was about 6-7 months I moved her in. I made sure she had a lot of hides as well as 2 food bowls (one above the "canopy" one below. She found her food fine and found all sorts of spots to sleep. She is now 2 years old and still doing really well. The main thing is she has grown skittish of people but I think this was not due to the tank but my lack of handling for a short while. I have to get her used to me all over again but hey, its part of the deal when raising exotics.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  3 года назад +1

    I got my baby girl from a friend’s mom at 1 week old. Started in a small kritter keeper with paper towel for about 2 months then went to a 12x12x18 with repti carpet for a few months and she was bouncing around everywhere so I slapped that dude in a 18x18x24 which she’s in now at 5 months old with eco earth. She finds her food n goes all over the place! Each morning its fun to see where she’s decided to sleep for the day.

    Like that you pointed out that information about the screen on Zen Habitats enclosures. I’ve always disliked the mesh because it’s SO fine that I really wonder how UVB can pass through effectively and installing it inside looks like a pain. Didn’t know about the zinc oxide though..that’s very scary since they’re marketing toward tropical species now. 😳

    I find that fans really dry out the tank and it makes you panic when all of the water is gone in 15

    • @katheryncox2815
      @katheryncox2815 3 года назад

      I have a small fan that I use when the temperatures get really hot. What I do to prevent it from getting to dry is doing several light misting throughout the day. However, a slightly dryer tank in the day isn’t always a bad thing. Crested Geckos do better with a heavy misting at night when they are most active. You can also fill a small bowl with water as a secondary drinking source.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  3 года назад +1

      Yeah I used to have those USB desk fans and I'd put them on top - which is quite good for the air flow of the tank too, but yes you need to keep up with the misting.

  • @katheryncox2815
    @katheryncox2815 3 года назад +3

    Good morning from Canada! 🇨🇦
    I thought I might add a few things in regards to housing baby Crested Geckos. You are correct that they NEED to be in a smaller enclosure. However, it is best to wait until they are between 10-15 grams instead of months. Usually they will reach this goal by the time they are 5 months old.
    Most breeders recommend a small diy tub that is at the suggested size that you gave. New owners can also use the larger critter keepers as well. For my baby girl I had her in the Exo Terra Mini Wide (12x12x12) as a baby. I found the Mini Wide the easiest to build an interactive enclosure that she felt safe in.
    The final enclosure I have her in now is the Exo Terra Medium Tall (18x18x24). If you have a pair together you will want them to be in the Medium Tall XL (24x18x24).
    Few other important tips!
    DO NOT put live feed in your Baby Crested Geckos tank! Crickets have been know to attack a babies eyes for food when left in the enclosure for several days. Instead, put the baby in a small tub that has paper towel. The feeding enclosure will allow you to supervise.
    Refrain from giving your Gecko any live feed until you know they are eating wet food. Babies will often hold out for crickets which do not provide all the nutrients they need.
    If your baby is struggling with eating wet food; use a syringe to hand feed them. Not only does this allow for bonding time, but it lets you know that they’re eating.
    Make sure your weighing them weekly. Doing regular weigh ins on a micro scale will help you track growth milestones. You will also know when they are underweight and need a change in their feeding schedule.

    I’ve gone bigger with my juvenile Chahoua gecko Squidgy exo 60/45/90 . I had a good think about it . Looked at your videos. Comes out from nowhere when I call out Bugs & Pangea and it comes shooting out . Then runs up its favourite branch or its paracord bridge its got walkways 😁 it’s got loads of climbing areas . It’s in its element & it loves the DHP . Smudgie my crested also bug crazy sits on its coconut awaiting them . I hate it when people say they only have one brain cell and say they are clumsy hunters. My Smudgie is an epic hunter . I drop the dusted bugs twice a week onto her net and she leaps on them and never misses !

    Any way of you can get in contact with me so I can email you a picture of a crested gecko from a pet smart? The thing looks like it hasn’t been fed in a year, and I think it even might have tail rot can’t tell though

    Are you aloud to use sticks and rocks you found outside for a leopard gecko tank

      So long as the sticks arent pine or cedar, there are ways to sanitize them and make them safe.

      Make sure it's a safe wood type. ALOT of woods can be toxic. And I always bake in the oven to kill parasites and stuffs.

    What are the measurements for the stand/shelving you’re using for the exo terra enclosures?

  • @hotaruasmaria7504

    I don't recommend it for everyone, but I had a breeding pair in a custom built enclosure that is four ft long, two and a half feet wide and eight ft tall. The two went about the entire thing nightly. For a month or so. There is a constant lamp on one side keeping it around 75-80 give or take the time if day. A stable and stationary area was assigned for food which they found fairly easy and has a running source of water roughly even in height to the food source. Only reason they aren't still in it together was a leak of the water source.

    New caledonia climate = 25c in summer and 20c in winter with 30c max in summer and 17c min in winter. This is not roomtemp everywhere in the world. Maybe if it's really too hot for a few days in the summer, place a bucket of ice over the enclosure, it will cool the air around and the cold air will fall gently inside the enclosure. Beware of water droplets from condensation, put a towel under the bucket or something like that. Remove it when the temps are cool enough.

    I live in an upstairs maisonette and all our rooms are upstairs. In the summer it gets extremely hot so I put freezer blocks on top of the mesh on one side, the cool air sinks into the Terrarium and the warm air condenses on the blocks and drips into the tank. I swap them continuously as the blocks warm up (I have about ten in my freezer so I can rotate them and always have frozen ones ready). I also have an aircon for when the temps hit the nineties indoors!!. Downstairs keeps all her windows shut so all the heat from her place rises into ours :0(
