I get that in the wild they'd take whatever walks by and would naturally get a ton of variety, making that the best-case scenario; however, I know that crickets are the easiest for me to get and care for. Also, if I had a bunch of different lizards I'd be more willing to keep multiple insects, just not 15 different bugs for 1 gecko, you know? 2. Would I need to provide extra supplements in the gecko's foods? I know leopard geckos need extra calcium and that you can dust their crickets with calcium powder, is there anything like that for cresteds? The only gecko food brand I can readily find is Pangea, and from what I've been hearing I'd need to provide UV light for the gecko, right? 3. Are cresteds easily bothered by outside noise? Also, would they be bothered by cats? I live in a loud house with my room being the quietest room and also where I'd want to keep the gecko. Since it's relatively quiet my cats also like to hang out there, too. NOTE, I'm not saying I'd let my cats come in contact with the gecko. hey, i feel horrible. My brother has this gecko but never takes care of it, it hadnt been fed in a while so i fed it paste and found a tiny tiny spider and put it in too because i thought why not. I then learned to NEVER feed them wild insects especially house spiders because theyre notorious for having parasites, what do i do
If crested geckos dont need insects I will consider getting one because I have a big phobia for insects, mostly spiders but I don't wanna deal with any insect really especially not have them in my home like what if they escape and get everywhere. 😳 My favorite is leopard gecko though but they only eat insects apparently
@Shockwave Bot Not necessarily true. Geckos of the genus Rhacodactylus often don’t need live insects. Some flat out refuse them if they are healthy. The truth is that modern food powders and supplements contain most of what they need.
Great video!!! It bugs me so bad when people say they don't need insects, if they didn't need them then they wouldn't eat them lol. I at first thought they didn't need them due to care guides I read, and I would only offer my first crestie bugs maybe once a month as a treat. In the end I ended up with a year old gecko that only weighed 8 grams. Once I started giving him insects a couple times a week he doubled his weight in the first few weeks I started offering them to him at that rate. Now he's a wapping 55 grams at three years old:) It's really good that you're putting this out there so first time owners don't make the same mistake I did!
That doesn't sound normal, my old crestie was fed just pangea and was a healthy 50 grams. She died at 4 years old though due to i think a heat and UV issue, but she was perfectly fine on just pangea. We are feeding our second gecko insects too though.
Great info! I always learn something new from you. Your the only person I can find that goes in depth about cresteds. Thanks so much for all of the advice 😄
Not desert lizard. Plus that can be hard not only to find and make sure they arnt posioness but also where to buy them. But that's just my opinion, I kill all my plants but I did personally try find plants for my girls and it wasn't easy
Dee Tomkinson but true. You want gecko safe plants. And you want to make sure they weren’t grown with chemicals. But Leo’s are a desert gecko. That’s a fact.
I've found that all my NC geckos (cresteds and gargoyles) relish insects when they are young, but when they reach adulthood they ignore/refuse them. Right now I have a tub full of Dubia roaches that nobody wants.
Neither of mine will eat insects unless I cut part of the abdomen and let them taste the juices 🤢 Also I believe what you said about younger geckos being more interested in insects. I’ve heard that lots Pangea with insects uses black soldier fly larvae :)
Freckle will ONLY eat gut loaded crickets, or dubia roaches, which are fed on pangea, rapashy and dusted. She will just barely lick CGD goop if it's waved under her nose. She wasnt putting on weight and becoming skeletal, until one day, she decided to eat a bleeding cricket (a tip I got elsewhere). Since then, she's gone live food mad. Im wondering if putting goop onto fake flowers might entice her?
I hate feeding mine crickets because it makes their terrarium smell like toxic waste, and keeping crickets is a huge pain. But both my geckos love them. I've just started offering black soldier fly larvae. Not sure if they're being eaten or not though.
Where did you source the information about the gut content of wild crested geckos? I would love to read more about this. I love your videos they are very educational and interesting, keep up the good work!
I have 3 that eat pangea only and 3 that eat a mix of pangea and insects and the ones that eat insects seem alot more alert and alive and I wouldn't say agresive but they will jump at me when I mist their enclosure down while the pangea eaters are way more chill.
You are my favorite youtuber I got a leopard gecko 3 months ago and I didn't notice but she was really sick now thanks to your amazing videos and info she is healthy with a fat tail and I just want to thank you so much and P.S diago is soooo cute is he a special breed
I have found that my Crested Gecko far prefers to eat insects over CGD. I would encourage all Crested Gecko owners to offer several kinds of live, gutloaded and dusted insects to their Crestie’s diet as regularly as possible, so long as they have access to CGD to supplement their diet, and a UV source.
Thanks so much for this, this is really helpful! Originally I was thinking of getting a crestie first and not getting a leo for awhile, so I wasn't terribly keen on buying feeders if the crestie ended up not liking them or didn't eat them very much, but now I have a leo so I know that when I get a crestie I'll have feeder insects readily available for him/her to try.
I’ve been having good success feeding my gecko gut loaded insects that I feed a range of fruits and veggies, aswell as meat and grain, and offering fruit that is fully ripe/mushy about to go bad as I found they prefer mushy fruit that has a strong sugar odour, aswell as when I feed feeder insects I put them directly into the tank to encourage natural hunting behaviours, I love seeing everyone’s different ways of feeding their geckos, because in my opinion all animals can be just as picky as humans when it comes to food, what one likes to eat one may not:)
Just got a juvenile crested. Feeding it a variety of powdered diets of Pangea and Repashy. Also, giving several small mealworms (calcium dusted) in a dish each week that it has no problem finding. Do not want to deal with crickets, smelly and can easily escape. When it grows a bit, I will offer wax worms and maybe calciworms (soldier fly). From my research, Crested Geckos in the wild eat plenty of insects as well as soft rotting fruit, depending on the season. Mealworms are just easier than crickets.
My crestie loved crickets and wax worms when he was a juvie... But now that he's all grown up, he isn't interested in insects at all I've tried and tried. . And finally gave up . like yours, mine LOVES mango and watermelon gecko food. So... I guess that's what I'll continue to give him
I got my cresty as a juvenile and I was told he ate crickets as well as the powder diet, but he has refused to eat crickets (and any other insects I have offered) in the 6 months I have had him. I feel so bad but I guess the person who gave him to me lied about feeding him anything other than the powder...
I also have a created gecko and when we first got him he ate crickets and really liked them but now if I try to feed him he doesn’t eat it but usually when I check later the cricket is gone it may have hidden away or died somewhere
Could you please tell me the amount of crickets I should feed my baby crested gecko and how much calcium? I gave her 7-8 tonight with a pinch of calcium in the bag petco gave me and shook it up. What other insects can I give her? I don’t want to do roaches. I have a sever problem with them. I also give her the repashy powder diet every night.
I feed my crestie repashy , and i tried her with crickets but she just didnt want to know. Should i try with mealworms. Im from cheltenham and my local stores only sell crickets and mealworms and waxworms.
My gecko isn’t eating any powder mixes but he does eat small fruits is that heathy (I do also feed around 5 crickets a day with monthly cleans and sprays morning and night
my crested gecko (who i got from a breeder) does not eat out of his bowls and doesn't really care about his food. He doesn't even acknowledge crickets and sometimes his food. He doesn't go crazy over food either. Surpisingly he doesn't like the watermelon flavor.
My 3 year old Crestie refuses to eat Bugs, so i feed him the Pangea bug mix once in a while. I have a theroy: i think cresties in captivity like the fruit mixes because they are sweeter and they stop eating bugs when they are older because they dont need it, and the fruit tastes better
The only reason I haven’t started feeding crickets yet is because I’ve seen some things like how they can get parasites from feeder insects so I’d like to know more but it’s a bit hard for me to find more info any tips please?
The Pangea fruit mix with insects contain black soldier fly larvae. I don't offer live food and people give me crap about it. Athena, my crestie who was born on August 2nd this year loves all the food I give her anyway. I just watched the entire video and I never heard you say that they do need live food. I give her powdered food that has insects in it and I have heard that's all right. Is it all right?
My crested gecko doesn’t eat his Pangea or repashy as I have seen he only takes bugs he’s like 2 years old and only weigh 16 grams last time I checked I’m getting a bit worried
I left a wax worm in my cresties enclosure and he keeps staring it from the other side of the viv the wax worm is under this bridge so hopefully my crestie can find it.
how many times do you feed insects a week to your crested gecko, how much of the said insect, and what insects can you feed. I'm not gonna feed crickets as they smell, make noise, can die off easily, and can easily escape. I know dubia roaches are good, they don't smell, no noise, don't jump and aren't fast, and are super hardy and easy. How about worms, i hear they don't digest them well. Thanks for any help.
Steve Raquel I have a crested gecko and I put food in for her everyday, when she's full she'll stop eating it. But if you don't want to do that I'd say 4 days a week
@@dapperdino6044 It depends on the diet and crestie. My current crestie eats mainly insects, i put pangea in every other day but I don't think he ever touches it, I never see him eating it but maybe he eats small amounts. My gargoyle wont eat insects but will happily eat pangea so i put it in everyday and try and offer some kind of real fruit half cut up so it doesn't have to chew at the fruit too much. They would normally eat rotting fruit fallen from the tree so you can't just put a berry in there and expect him to bite it. Maybe 3 or 4 times a week i add something into the gargoyles tank so it ends up taking more effort and time. I am told (and its even mentioned in this video) that gargoyles often eat insects but nope not this guy. Each individual lizard has its own needs and its our job to figure out what they are. Oh also I think they have seasonal diets, so some seasons cresties want insects more some seasons they want fruit.
the reason why we give crested geckos a diff ratios in their diet than they would eat in the wild is because the live differently in captivity than they do in the wild. they are far more active in the wild since the have entire trees to travel through and they have to run away from predators more hence they would need more protein in their diet. This is the same case with some zoo animals. caretakers don't feed them exactly what they would eat in the wild bc they either aren't as active or that they're a lot less skittish than they would be otherwise, so they dont expend that much energy.
I’m completely blind. So I had started feeding my gecko the diet with insect in it, and he doesn’t like it. He much prefers the other diet. If I’m going to supplement with insects, I really don’t want to put something in there that will be flighty or might bite him. Especially since I can’t see. What would be a good idea? Wax worms or some thing? I cooked up a little egg in the microwave and have put that in a separate dish for him tonight. Along with his regular food.
I've tried offering my crestie worms and crickets and he literally couldn't care less about them! Ive used little bug tongs and put them in a container with the bugs and he doesn't even look at them. He is still a baby so maybe he's scared of them?
My crested gecko goes crazy for crickets and I've only recently started feeding him them cause the breeder I got him from said they don't need insects and not to feed them, but then I read and heard lots of people saying it's really good to offer insects and I'm so glad I did, he's so much happier and enjoys his crickets cause doesn't like the Pangea too much and just kind of eats it to survive!😂😂 So it's nice to give him something he likes once a week or so!💜💜
Thank you sooo much. Crickets helped bulk up my crested but now she barely eats them so I'm left with abunch of loud ones untill I deal with them. I'm certainly switching up Repashy for pangea hoping it goes well.
Mine just wont eat insects, from hatch he has been offered insects and just isnt bothered by them, I supplement the lack of insects with the powders that include insects in them, but continue to offer insects just incase (my friend breeds locusts and roaches so I get some babies).
So I really want a gecko, but my mom doesn't want any insects in the house. Can I feed a gecko (when I get one ofc) with just this mixed insect-fruit powder?
Maybe you can tell you're mom she does not need to feed the crested gecko but you will. And did you know humanbeings also eat insect? That is Okay tho it Gives alot of proteine and calcium, like butter, milk like a lot of stuff! But just Insect-fruit powder is also totally fine!
Your gecko will be fine on repashy or pangea. I feed live to some of my geckos but I have others who just are not interested. I have bred cresties for almost 10years and breed between 60-80 per year snd never had an issue. Repashy is what you should go for of possible. It is designed as an all in diet for all Cresties of all ages and Allen out his name to it:-) Don't get me wrong, ideally you would give the odd insect but isn't going to damage the animal if you don't. It may grow slower it may not get as large but there will be not heath knocks if you don't providing you use a good quality CGD:-)
I'm a new Leopard Gecko owner. I need to know if I can move my Leo to a used reptile tank. I'm afraid he'll be able to smell the Ball Python snake that used to live in it!! How can I totally disinfect it ??
how do I know if my crestie is underweight? she’s only about 3 1/2 months old and is as long as my pointer finger, including her tail. She seems a bit skinny and her width of her body is about the size of my pinky. I have thin fingers. I plan to get crickets and mealworms this week. She really doesn’t seem to have gained much weight since I got her so I’m constantly seeing if she’s eating.
I just got one last weekend, rescued from a pet store chain. He's tiny, and girl said he was hard to feed, so push his nose in his fruit mush and he'll lick it of his face, obviously, then eat up. I tried it and felt bad. It stressed him out and he would just run away from food. These evening I mixed it and out it on my finger, he licked some, so I kept trying, but I have things to do n he wasn't taking much. I borrowed a mealworm from my daughter's leopard gecko we also just got, he's from an expo and a lot healthier it seems. He doesn't eat much yet either. Dipping a mealworm in the watermelon flavored mix was the trick. Worm wasn't there 30seconds before Pumpernickel was finally munching. Honestly, he's gonna get big, if he keeps eating like that. My goal is to make it a treat, but if that's all he'll eat...I want him healthy and he knows what he likes. Haha

I have had my crested gecko for 8 weeks now .she was just on powder food coz the lady did not know what she was doing .paid £10 for the gecko and full set up .now feeding small insects and a good mix of food .she is so happy now and full of life .thanks to all your vids .saving up for a big new tank now .happy days for sticky ..love all your vids so much help 😊
hey, i feel horrible. My brother has this gecko but never takes care of it, it hadnt been fed in a while so i fed it paste and found a tiny tiny spider and put it in too because i thought why not. I then learned to NEVER feed them wild insects especially house spiders because theyre notorious for having parasites, what do i do
I would totally join your patreon but I’ve been trying to save for all the things I need to keep a gecko healthy. Wish me luck!
So close to 100k!
Good Luck!
Good video keep up the good work 👌🏼🦎
omg you have evolved so much since a long time ago :D keep up the good work
If crested geckos dont need insects I will consider getting one because I have a big phobia for insects, mostly spiders but I don't wanna deal with any insect really especially not have them in my home like what if they escape and get everywhere. 😳 My favorite is leopard gecko though but they only eat insects apparently
SAME
@Shockwave Bot Not necessarily true. Geckos of the genus Rhacodactylus often don’t need live insects. Some flat out refuse them if they are healthy. The truth is that modern food powders and supplements contain most of what they need.
I'm saving up to get a crested gecko. I've been looking up all about them for an hour on end. That just shows that I'm exited for getting one.
Austin Burton so how many crickets a week???
That doesn't sound normal, my old crestie was fed just pangea and was a healthy 50 grams. She died at 4 years old though due to i think a heat and UV issue, but she was perfectly fine on just pangea. We are feeding our second gecko insects too though.
Thanks for the info, amazing video as always !
Great info! I always learn something new from you. Your the only person I can find that goes in depth about cresteds. Thanks so much for all of the advice 😄
Love your video and channel
Two of my geckos are obsessed for crickets... but 1 of them has no interest.
Can you do a video on what plants you can have in a leopard gecko tank?
ItzCoolCat look that up online. Desert gecko. Or just look at the plants she has. Get a succulent
Not desert lizard. Plus that can be hard not only to find and make sure they arnt posioness but also where to buy them. But that's just my opinion, I kill all my plants but I did personally try find plants for my girls and it wasn't easy
Dee Tomkinson uh leos are desert geckos. Just not a sandy desert. More of a clay desert with rocky caves
Dee Tomkinson but true. You want gecko safe plants. And you want to make sure they weren’t grown with chemicals. But Leo’s are a desert gecko. That’s a fact.
a leo isnt a desert animal.
I wish we had Arcadia available in the US, it seems like a great brand.
I've found that all my NC geckos (cresteds and gargoyles) relish insects when they are young, but when they reach adulthood they ignore/refuse them. Right now I have a tub full of Dubia roaches that nobody wants.
Neither of mine will eat insects unless I cut part of the abdomen and let them taste the juices 🤢
Also I believe what you said about younger geckos being more interested in insects. I’ve heard that lots
Pangea with insects uses black soldier fly larvae :)
Very well presented! Great.
Top marks for doing your research. What better way of fact checking than to review data collected from the wild cresties. 👍❤
All your videos are really informative and very helpful could you do a video of how you could you would prepare your cresties for a weeks holiday
Thank you so much for this! Helped a lot
Your my favourite RUclipsr!🦎
You're*...
Thanks! This helps a lot!
I love your vids I can't wait till you reach 100000 subs
Just got a juvenile crested. Feeding it a variety of powdered diets of Pangea and Repashy. Also, giving several small mealworms (calcium dusted) in a dish each week that it has no problem finding. Do not want to deal with crickets, smelly and can easily escape. When it grows a bit, I will offer wax worms and maybe calciworms (soldier fly). From my research, Crested Geckos in the wild eat plenty of insects as well as soft rotting fruit, depending on the season. Mealworms are just easier than crickets.
Use Korean CGDs. it mostly has more than 25~35% of protein. Therefore, this can help them to grow without insects.
I have a crested gecko which I just recently got and I was wondering how long will it take for the gecko to get used to me and his home ?
I feed my crestie repashy , and i tried her with crickets but she just didnt want to know. Should i try with mealworms. Im from cheltenham and my local stores only sell crickets and mealworms and waxworms.
My juvenile crested gecko craves her crickets. She rather eat crickets instead of her pangea. Is that ok.
Great video
My gecko is a juvenile and is also in love with crickets I wanna see if she will still love crickets when she gets older
I have a question how often do you feed a crested gecko or like how often do they eat there Pangea/repashy diet
Steve Raquel I have a crested gecko and I put food in for her everyday, when she's full she'll stop eating it. But if you don't want to do that I'd say 4 days a week
I’m asking the same question.
Pangea makes a powdered diet including crickets as well
Could you do a video on how to do a natural approach with caring for cresties?
My crested gecko was the opposite I had to hand feed it banana as a juvenile and it only took to the live food as an adult
I always like your videos. Your pets are all so cute. Great job as always :)
What lighting and heating does a planted crested gecko tank need
Jasmine Boyer depends on plants. Plants usually need a full spectrum light.
the reason why we give crested geckos a diff ratios in their diet than they would eat in the wild is because the live differently in captivity than they do in the wild. they are far more active in the wild since the have entire trees to travel through and they have to run away from predators more hence they would need more protein in their diet. This is the same case with some zoo animals. caretakers don't feed them exactly what they would eat in the wild bc they either aren't as active or that they're a lot less skittish than they would be otherwise, so they dont expend that much energy.
As a beginner crestie owner, I don’t think I can handle feeding my crestie live insects quite yet, but I have food with dead insects already in them
I've noticed that my adult cresties don't go after the crickets with as much interest as they did as babies and juveniles
Reptiles Plus
What do you feed them? Are they healthy?
Yep I had that happen too I started to feed them Pangea with insects so they would get a healthy diet.
Which Pangea has no insect content? Because all mine says they do..
The insects in the pangea diet are black soldier fly larvae
I love watching u and my bearded dragon loves to watch u too lol
Do you need to use purified water to mist your crestie and mix their food
He was so concentrated on the worm 😂 i really want a crested gecko, im trying to convince my parents for one but they are afraid of the crickets 🙄
I feed mine wax worms and mill worms you don't have to use crickets
Jordan Stretch ok thanks :D
Meal Worm amd wax worms need to be in the fridge though...which mom probs wont like lmao
Karina Alvarez yeah... but IM GETTING A CRESTY NEXT MONTH!!!! :D all that begging finally paid off ✨😌
The crestie gods have blessed you💜💜
I've tried offering my crestie worms and crickets and he literally couldn't care less about them! Ive used little bug tongs and put them in a container with the bugs and he doesn't even look at them. He is still a baby so maybe he's scared of them?
My crested gecko goes crazy for crickets and I've only recently started feeding him them cause the breeder I got him from said they don't need insects and not to feed them, but then I read and heard lots of people saying it's really good to offer insects and I'm so glad I did, he's so much happier and enjoys his crickets cause doesn't like the Pangea too much and just kind of eats it to survive!😂😂
So it's nice to give him something he likes once a week or so!💜💜
The Pangea insect powder contains black solider fly larvae
Thank you sooo much. Crickets helped bulk up my crested but now she barely eats them so I'm left with abunch of loud ones untill I deal with them. I'm certainly switching up Repashy for pangea hoping it goes well.
0:25 Looks like a far view of a huge rock cliff and steep hill if you didn't know better right?
My crested geckos feet arn't very sticky and he has trouble gripping onto glass and i have no clue why. Please help!!
Mine just wont eat insects, from hatch he has been offered insects and just isnt bothered by them, I supplement the lack of insects with the powders that include insects in them, but continue to offer insects just incase (my friend breeds locusts and roaches so I get some babies).
when you feed your gecko crickets do you need to put the powder on them?
3 of my crested geckos refuse to eat insects. What should I do to get them interested in buggies? I try a variety, but they just ignore them.
So I really want a gecko, but my mom doesn't want any insects in the house. Can I feed a gecko (when I get one ofc) with just this mixed insect-fruit powder?
Why not buy canned insects?
Maybe you can tell you're mom she does not need to feed the crested gecko but you will. And did you know humanbeings also eat insect? That is Okay tho it Gives alot of proteine and calcium, like butter, milk like a lot of stuff! But just Insect-fruit powder is also totally fine!
Your gecko will be fine on repashy or pangea. I feed live to some of my geckos but I have others who just are not interested. I have bred cresties for almost 10years and breed between 60-80 per year snd never had an issue.
Repashy is what you should go for of possible. It is designed as an all in diet for all Cresties of all ages and Allen out his name to it:-)
Don't get me wrong, ideally you would give the odd insect but isn't going to damage the animal if you don't. It may grow slower it may not get as large but there will be not heath knocks if you don't providing you use a good quality CGD:-)
Well them jelly pods are more for beetles
I'm a new Leopard Gecko owner. I need to know if I can move my Leo to a used reptile tank. I'm afraid he'll be able to smell the Ball Python snake that used to live in it!! How can I totally disinfect it ??
Can't crested geckos eat fruit/regular flies? I did see my gecko eat a small fly. Can they eat ants as well? But not fire ants.
Are large locusts ok to feed an 8 year old crested gecko ?
how do I know if my crestie is underweight? she’s only about 3 1/2 months old and is as long as my pointer finger, including her tail.
Haha
Hello Jessica, do crested geckos need a fogger or will a heating pad and a spray bottle do.?
Umm is it ok that I feed my gecko 5 crickets every Wednesday and she always has Pangea available and water and small pieces of fruit once a month
I know you mentioned you were not sure as to which insects Pangea complete diet with insects had, and on the package it mentions "made with the highest quality insect meal from black soldier fly larvae and crickets". Pangea also recommends to occasionally feed your geckos insects, it was optional. but what is occasionally? I have baby crestie and he was not interested in crickets at all, so ive been continuing to feed this the Pangea with insects..
Is it okay if I feed my crested Gecko flukers can of crickets? I know they are dead...but she goes crazy for them! Ate 2 in one day and she is very small!
TheRealFuzzy if she eats them then sure. I’ve never liked them because they aren’t the healthiest
they don't have any nutritional value to them. They are ok as a occasional treat, but they shouldnt make up a large portion of her diet.
TheRealFuzzy yes it is totally safe and she would probably love it, just don't feed her to much it's like a treat for them.
Give her live come on people
lizard lover some people don't like keeping live bugs in their house. So they give canned or the meal replacement stuff.
If anyone’s got any advice I’d be very great full. My crested gecko is about 4 months old and all he will eat is crickets, he refuses everything else. I’ve tried one type of CGD, baby food (that’s what the lady I got him from said he was eating), mushed banana and mushed apple. This is my first time owning a gecko so I’m scared he’s not getting everything he needs. Please help
