    I bought my crestie because I wanted a "starter" reptile since I couldnt get an indo blue tongue due to the lack of space. Ended up going for a bioactive tank (my boy ate all the adult isopods :/), and had to buy a grow light for the plants and even a heater for my guy. Ended up spending a lot more than I thought I would but I enjoy bettering my care.

    They’ve calmed down a bunch since being home w me from the shop and I have a wooden viv with silicone sealed glass interior bc I also live in the uk and I think something that keeps the heat in winter and maintains the droplets would be great for them.
    Once again, Thankyou so so much. Don’t see many uk based gecko keepers so having someone who lives in a similar climate rlly helps w how to care for my babies properly.

    I got mine about 3 weeks ago so it's a bit late. lol I'm glad you said not to put a water dish in if you have a baby. I almost did when I heard it would help with humidity.
    My baby gecko isn't good at climbing glass walls. Is that normal? I'm afraid to spray it too much because it's a tiny enclosure for a tiny gecko and if I get the walls really good they hydrometer says it's way too high of humidity.

    Genuine question and not sarcastic because I really want to consider this before getting a crested gecko:

    I feel like you said you’re in Australia, so I’d like to make a shoutout to all my Canadians out there and say PLEASE HEAT YOUR CRESTIE. Our room temp is almost never good enough, and you won’t always have your heat on when you’re not home. Cresties are hardy, but I had to learn the sad way that they’re not invincible, and not everything you read on the web is relevant to your situation.

    How important is routine for your crested geckos specifically? Like I feed him and handle him regularly but what about cleaning his enclosure. I clean it during the day when he's asleep so I inevitably wake him up, is that ok or should I do it t night when he's awake? Does it matter?

    Hey I have a Gargoyle Gecko, and I have a weird situation I could use a little advice on- nothing critical, otherwise I'd go to a vet.
    Basically, she's associated being taken out of her tank with eating food, and now no longer wants to eat while inside her enclosure. This is, a pain for a large number of reasons.
    Does anyone have any advice on how to encourage her to start eating her crestie diet mix inside her tank again? She used to just fine.

    I would love to give my crestie some insects. But he is my only pet that eats insects and I´ve heard that sometimes they don´t like insects. So what can you do if you have bought some crickets and your crestie dosen´t like them? I haven´t bought any yet, I just want to know whta I should do if he dosen´t like them

    • @CADAVERSETAPES
      @CADAVERSETAPES 9 месяцев назад +1

      Probably try locusts or mealworms as a first one! Mealworms last ages so you’ll get your moneys worth so you can try on multiple occasions! Locusts are nutritious, don’t bite (cus crickets can bite and hurt your crestie if u leave them in there). Then I’d suggest if they like the locusts and mealworms tong feed the crickets.

    • @CADAVERSETAPES
      @CADAVERSETAPES 9 месяцев назад +1

      My crestie is only small and just got into his new enclosure, but I have had other geckos and such. N I work in a reptile store. We usually leave locusts in there and keep springtails/isopods in the soil to eat the dead matter. But tong feed mealworms. Cus they burrow and breed like anything in a warm dark place. And if that happens you’ll get beetles.

    • @nelliestahl355
      @nelliestahl355 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@CADAVERSETAPES Thank you so much! But where could you get them? I don´t think my local pet store sells locusts, are there any websites that sell them and what would you say is the best one to buy from? Anyway, thx for the tip!
      Edit: Now when I think about it, my local pet store probably sells locusts and I can probably find some website where they sell locusts if my local pet store don´t. But anyway, thank you for the advice!

    • @nelliestahl355
      @nelliestahl355 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@CADAVERSETAPES Thx for the tip, but I´ve heard that mealworms might be hard for cresties to digest, so I will probably try locusts. Also, good to hear that locusts don´t jump around as much as crickets! From the way my crestie normally acts (extremly clumpy) I don´t think he can handle a cricket...but maybe the little guy could handle a locust!

    • @CADAVERSETAPES
      @CADAVERSETAPES 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@nelliestahl355
      Sorry I replied so late! But there is all sorts of feeders you can try him with ^^
      I’d say try him on:
      Locusts/grasshoppers
      Black soldier fly larvae
      Silkworms
      Those are higher on nutrient scale and are good in terms of moisture which will keep your crestie well hydrated too alongside the humidity in the enclosure.
      Whatever ones your crestie may not like try dusting them in flavoured calcium/vitamins.
      As it’s a good way of getting both nutrients from the bug the gecko may not like and the calcium in!
      Edit: also with locusts, they are very good arboreal feeders due to the jumping. And they’re not the brightest or most skittish bug meaning it’s very easy to catch!
      And my crested gecko LOVES locusts. You can ask where you get your crestue from what he/she was being fed and base it off of that and add new stuff to the diet too!

    When I first started keeping reptiles I got a crestie because of the supposed ease of feeding powdered diet.
    Now, after nearly 7 years keeping reptiles, I much rather prefer those that only eat insects. I still have my crestie, but breeding bugs is so much more cost effective than having to buy a packet of food every month. I feed my other pets for practically free

    I am just curious, is there a reason for why her eyes are so large? The white around the eyes is showing, is that normal?
    I house my female in a 45x45x90 tall ExoTerra and she uses the _whole_ tank. It has a bioactive setup and it's filled with so many plants that I can't fit anymore in there. She also has huge branches to climb on, and has access to fresh water every day. I've fed her crickets and Pangea and now that she's 2 years old she's reached 84 grams and isn't even overweight. She's been allowed to grow to her full potential and I find that to be very important for all my animals. So, plenty of space, the best food, fresh water and a bioactive setup (that is also better for their immune system) is absolutely key for healthy growth.
