Garage Gym Tour With Olympian Joe Kovacs

World champion shot-putter and 2x Olympic silver medalist Joe Kovacs gives Rogue an exclusive tour of the garage gym he and his wife/coach Ashley have built in their new home outside of Nashville. With space at a premium, the Kovacs (or “THROvacs”) gym features plenty of wall storage and Rogue’s RML-390FULLW Fold-Back Rack, which not only frees up room for cardio machines (Joe’s least favorite type of equipment), but also for parking the car in the garage on colder days.

I was a skinny runner back in the day, competing mostly at 1500m on the track plus longer distances cross country. I'm 6'3" and, because slightly more muscled now at 60, a bit heavier at about 175 lbs than in my running years (for example, 157 lbs. (and 6'2") at age 18 at the end of high school to about 163 lbs at age 22 at the end of my undergraduate years). But it is interesting to see videos like this from Joe Kovacs as well as the from other shot put greats like Ryan Crouser. I still remember a video that New Zealand shot putter Jacko Gill put out years ago as a teenager showing him workout in his family's garage and yard. Though I don't run any more, I still work hard to be as fit as I can be, and I think of Kovacs and Crouser benching 700 lbs. or more when I do my once weekly 3 sets of 6x135 lbs.
