Top Tier Garage Gym. Excellent use of craftsmanship and wood work skills. Great mix of handmade gym equipment to a mix mid to high end professional equipment. I salute you Sir.
Love how much you were able to condense into such a small space. Not saying it’s small, just that there is SO MUCH in a 12x20 area. Well done sir! Also like hearing that the preacher pad isn’t collecting dust. I kinda wondered if it would after your review, just because it’s a pad vs. a designated machine.
Nice freaking set up. Personally my favorite I have seen on RUclips. The DIY touches are great. I too have turned half my garage into a gym and am rocking the Red and Black aesthetic.
The French cleats are so underrated. Such a great tool for any type of wall storagd/organization. Idk why they're not more common in the home gym community
I’ve had very little issues keeping up with the maintenance on my barbells. I often have to travel for work, sometimes for long periods of time, and I find that a simple application of oil and using my barbell rescue brush can do wonders for keeping barbells from rusting away. Definitely understand the other end of the discussion though.
For my space, yes. It stores significantly easier and offers the same level of functionality. Additionally you can customize it easier because the uprights are coated separately than the platform section.
It still feels great. I will say that I likely would have benefitted from an additional layer of plywood on the top because some of the thinner corners were kind of “squishy” feeling, but once the rack was bolted through the platform and into the concrete that went away. For a sloped floor I think it’s the way to go. Just add one more later at the end.
Sweet!! 🤘🏻 I take it you sold your revere hyper drop-in? Side note, I have the same blue 6 part rig and reverse hyper you used to have and am dreading PCSing with it all (and the rest of the garage gym) in a few months 🤦🏻♂️
Lol. Yes. It was monster lite and I didn’t want it in my 4 post 1” hardware rack. For PCSing I took the pad off and used a light cargo strap to keep the swing arm from clunking me while I moved it around. It really wasn’t too bad. Take the pad off before you remove from the rack though. It makes it way easier to handle.
I've been working out steady for 4 years at this point and I still have only one barbell. Just a standard one from prx performance that I use for olympic lifting, benching, deadlifts, and squats. Seeing so many bars in your home gym makes me question things. Am I just limiting myself by not getting other bars or are you just a barbell junkie?
I’m a bit of a junkie and a competitive strongman. Some bars like my axle are for competition prep, others like my wife’s bar are just because she wanted one that was less aggressive. Others are just because I’m trying to get this channel going and wanted to review other barbells. You’re normal. Bahaha. Thanks for watching
@@TheKurtlocker Thanks for the reply, I am thinking of possibly adding an earthquake bar to increase strength and stability. Any thought's on if its worth it for increasing strength?
@@TheKurtlocker Might just be my bad eyesight but you said you linked to your deadlift platform video? I wasn’t able to click the video or see the link in the description.
I didn’t think it was $20k either but I did the math for what I have and it is. Keep in mind that a lot of the strongman implements are pretty expensive.
Normally I try not to engage with negative comments but I’ll humor you. Do I have a lot of barbells, yes. I absolutely do. Do I use all of them every week no, but I don’t feel the need to. Collecting barbells is something that I enjoy doing and will continue to do and make content on so that people can make good choices when they’re in a position where they can only afford one or a few. Does my rack and storage unit cost more than the average set? Absolutely. They’re the first of their kind from Surplus Strength and I was honored to support that veteran owned business and look forward to seeing that business grow. Do strongman implements that are made by Americans out of American steel cost more? You bet! However I’m the son of an American fabricator and I will continue to buy quality strongman implements from people like Mike Bartos and Texas Power Concepts that have the work ethic and attention to detail that I value. Did my leveled platform cost a lot more than just buying stall mats, unfortunately yes. Especially at the time lumber prices were high but I also know and understand the disadvantages of training on an unlevel surface. Do I win unique training pieces like my Triad hand weights? Yes, and they’re expensive but I can tell you that I don’t feel the need to buy a set of dumbbells. Do I own a lot of Kabuki products to include more weight than I can currently lift? Yes. But who says that I’m the only one that uses this space. Please keep in mind that when you assume, it makes and ass out of u and me. This is why I think you’re likely just a hater and why I tend to avoid these comments. We are all now dumber for your comment I award you zero points May god have mercy on your soul.

Not too shabby... for a garage :)
What a basement gym snob. Haha
Looks about 20k cheaper than a particular basement gym I see on RUclips :)
That was fun to watch, great ideas for storage and I'll definitely need to check out the floor leveling vid!
Thank you. I very neatly was a basement guy but the builder couldn’t do the ceiling height I needed.
But his is really freaking nice
Beautiful, Kurt! Love that French cleat system and the surplus rack is stunning. The welded bolts are money!
Thanks Adam! Appreciated as always. If you ever need a French clear system let me know. I need to check out your space sometime.

Thanks a ton. That really means a lot based on some of the areas I’ve seen on YT as well. The red and black is just so sharp!
This space is stunning, Kurt. The French cleat system gives your gym such a unique look. Thanks for taking us along for the building of your space!
Thanks for watching. The cleats were an awesome addition, I’m excited for my next version of them.
Awesome stuff! You should do a part 2 on the wood shop!
It’s pretty small but I’ll show some DIY holder videos.
The french cleats look both classy and utilitarian - nice.
Thank you. They are definitely a wonderful feature.
Great run down! Everytime I see that cleat storage I love it!
You’re not alone. I have a similar feeling every time that I train
Very nice. Keep on and keep letting us know!
Thank you so much for watching!!
Gym looks awesome! The organization on this is top notch.
Thanks so much. I can’t wait to start the higher capacity barbell racks
Thanks for the video. You're gym is beautiful and well designed. Especially impressed with the DIY log you constructed. Wish I was handy!
Wow. Thanks for those kind words. That log presses like a dream as well. I definitely learn a little about being handy everyday! Keep grinding!!!
Was looking forward to this one. Great tour.
Thank you! I’m excited for 5.0 but also grateful for 4.0
Awesome set up. I've been using the titan duck walk handles to hook dinnie handles/rings to using the carabiners from a truck pull harness.
That’s a good way to get some training out of those rings!!
Gym looks great.
Thank you. I appreciate your continued support
Gripedo looks like.. Well... Hhmmm... it would be great for gripping... That long thick black shaft and ball....
It’s oh so satisfying. Awesome tool though. Both in and out of the gym 😉
Awesome set up Man!!!
Thank you! It’s been a build over time for sure
The French cleats are so underrated.

I think they’re intimidating for most to attempt to make besides their simplicity.
Been waiting for this!
Thank you for watching it! I’ve been waiting as well. Totally worth it
You got a hell of a gym, man. I’m jelly of that storage.
Everything from Surplus Strength has been on point. Thank you for watching.
Looks great! A job well done.
Thanks so much for saying that. I appreciate your time watching. Thank you.
I just watched a video this morning where the guy (Kevin Armentrout) had the higher track so his garage door opened above his rack.
That’s what I’m looking to do. So much more room for activities!!
Yes sir, Mr. Locker!
Hahaha.
truly inspiring. Can't wait to see more from you
Wow. Thank you. I am excited for future projects and reviews as well. Thanks for watching!
love the gym dude, i have the same woof hooks lol
Great minds!
Great video and amazing setup! Didn’t see the kabuki trap bar. Did you sell it and if so why? Just ordered mine today based on your previous review…
Unfortunately the trap bar wasn’t mine. It was on loan. I’d love to get one of my own soon.
Love this!
Thank you!!
Love the gym. What kind of space you working with?
It’s a garage that is 20x20’ but my gym is in a 12x20’ section
Why don’t you go stainless steel with (some) of your barbells? Same feel as bare steel without any oxidation.
Price is the biggest hurdle in that department.
@@TheKurtlocker I’d rather have one stainless steel barbell that won’t rust than a dozen that will. Buy such a barbell for a lifetime.

@@TheKurtlocker Yep, I do the same for my stainless steel barbells, just in case. Hate rust.
I always liked pitbull equipment. Great value. Alan is a busy dude though so I can’t blame him for taking a hiatus. He could charge a lot more.
He absolutely could.
Kurt,
I have spend way too much money at MBPC Because of your reviews!
Can you do one for the modular PR platform?
There’s one coming up in about 2 videos (should be beginning of Jan)
@@TheKurtlocker bottom line would you recommend the modular one vs the welded one?
For my space, yes. It stores significantly easier and offers the same level of functionality. Additionally you can customize it easier because the uprights are coated separately than the platform section.
@@TheKurtlocker Thank you brother! I definitely getting that one then. Do you feel any instability while deadlifting in it?
None at all. Sometimes you’ll hear a bolt retain an upright but it’s rare and always subtle.
How’s that platform holding up? I watched your leveling video and really like how you did it compared to the plywood method. Does it still feel solid?
It still feels great. I will say that I likely would have benefitted from an additional layer of plywood on the top because some of the thinner corners were kind of “squishy” feeling, but once the rack was bolted through the platform and into the concrete that went away.
For a sloped floor I think it’s the way to go. Just add one more later at the end.
I'm just happy it's not one of those gyms people try to park in
My kids park their bikes and that’s about as triggered as I can tolerate.

Do you have logs of different sizes due to varying logs in competitions?
My logs are 12”. I have a wooden and a steel to better prep for different competitions and because I really like to have them.

I unfortunately ran out of tags during the video. It is part 2 of the garage gym 4.0 build.
@@TheKurtlocker
Oh crap, that can happen?? Okay great thanks man. I found it and this helps a bunch!
What are the Dementitions of your Rack?
3x3” steel with 1” holes. 43” inbetween all uprights with 49” outside width on all sides. 100 inches tall.
There's no way it costs $20k but overall you got nice acessories that fit your strongman training. 👍
I didn’t think it was $20k either but I did the math for what I have and it is. Keep in mind that a lot of the strongman implements are pretty expensive.
Just the stone of steel is almost $1,000 if it was shipped.
I picked it up, but the SOS is a $999 item
Why does this cost 20k.. Where's all the money spent? A bunch of bars hanging on walls? More weight then you could ever lift?
Haters gonna hate.
