    So if your height is so important, why do guys like Joe Kovacs, Reese Hoffa, Adam Nelson, and Tom Walsh throw so far? All of those guys are "short" for a thrower and they all throw extremely far. In fact, I am taller than all of those guys and Ryan Whiting and Dylan Armstrong. Doesn't that mean I should be throwing farther than they do? Watch the video to find out why height doesn't really matter as much as you all think.

    Joe Kovacs is around 5’10.8 ft. If you want another guy, Odanyne Richards is also 5’10. I am 5’9 I hit a pr of 39ft with the 16lb. At first glance that is like pretty bad. But I have set goals that are realistic for myself for the next few years since I am red shirting this year (freshman year) of college. The school record is 45 ft. I would like to hit that. I was a 45 ft thrower in high school. I believe there is a college for everyone. If you can prove you are willing to work hard. You should have no problem finding a college that will let you throw. And maybe perhaps we will meet in the circle. 🤙🏼
    (And I’ll kick your butt )

    Hammer throw, high jump, pole vault, all the track events and javelin, specially in the hammer throw, height has been debunked a lot of times. Sergey litvinov was 180 cm tall and many, i mean, MANY are below 185 cm and can throw above 78 m. I think in the discus, apostolos parellis is 185 cm and can throw 65 + in the discus. Also, the definitive proof that height isnt a decisive factor is the high jump: there is a 173 cm high jumper that could jump over 230 cm, Charles Clinger is 206 cm and can jump 235 cm. Look at height differentials en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_jump imagine how many athletes are lost because of these myths. Edit: i forgot to mention: triple jump, long jump and the hurdles races have MANY ELITE LEVEL athletes that are below 180 cm, concluding that in track and field height isn't the predominant factor.

    I am so friggin sick of people - interestingly all tall people - downplaying the importance of height in throwing far. I would never argue against technique being the most important factor for an individual to throw far. But to downplay the importance of height in the equation simply ignores the physics of the throw, which is what governs everything about "throwing far" ...and physics takes us right back to height. Being tall gives you better lever arms and more time of contact as compared to someone with shorter lever arms. Of course, you can't train height; therefore, tall people have an automatic advantage over short people because of their better built-in physics endowed by simply being tall. Does that mean that just because someone is tall he or she will be a good thrower? Of course not, but ignoring the untrained advantage that height gives to a throwing athlete simply flies in the face of fact. Yes, there are other things involved in the physics of the throw that short people can maximize - strength, speed, etc., - but those are things that a tall person can maximize, too....a short person can't do anything about being short and having crappy throwing physics. Height is way, way more important the better you get, too, which is why the elite level athletes are almost all over 6' (that's "tall" to me). Pointing out one or two people who are "short" and can throw far is irrelevant since it's possible for a freak of an individual like Joe Kovacs to maximize physics, strength and speed in a way no one else can so that he can be competitive. And still, Joe Kovacs is not "short" in the way that most truly short people experience the impaired throwing physics of being short. Does that mean a "short" person shouldn't throw? No. Does it mean that I would discourage a short person from throwing? Of course not. It simply reinforces the importance of maximizing technique, strength, explosive power and speed, which is driven by the fact that the person is short and has genetically crappy throwing physics.

    • @EliteThrowsCoaching
      @EliteThrowsCoaching  4 года назад

      Vardas pavarde that’s not the point. The point is height is only one small part of what makes up a thrower. If someone thinks height is as important as technique, strength, or speed they are wrong.
