Is Dragon's Dogma 2's CPU Performance Issues Fixed On PC Now?

- Dragon's Dogma 2 just received a new patch, and one of the issues addressed that stood out to me was that they now apparently fixed CPU performance in NPC heavy areas. We put that to the test today to see whether CPU performance has indeed improved in the main cities, as claimed by the patch notes.
We test the PC version of Dragon's Dogma 2 using an Intel i5 14600KF CPU, an RTX 4070 Super, and DDR5 6400MT/s CL32 RAM.

Here is the original RTX 4070 Super Dragon's Dogma 2 video for comparison: ruclips.net/video/Kt_P3UM9AzA/видео.html
*I have a 14700K system with 32GB of CL34 ram. The game is installed on a Samsung EVO SSD, and my video card is a 3080 Ti (same power as the 4070 SUPER).*
*In towns, before, I was getting as low as 50 fps at times (when running). So, holding above 70 fps is huge (for me). My monitor is a 75Hz 1440p display. So, 75 fps is where I'd like to stay at MINIMAL.*
Well, atleast they are working on it. I was slowly giving up hope.
Yeah, same here!
It's actually very funny, I participated in a survey 2 days ago and at the end they asked if I would like to add anything, so I complained about the horrible CPU performance in cities. And here we are, 2 days later, getting a patch improving exactly that! Now I kinda feel bad
🤣
seems like they will re sell the game fixed when the dlc comes out knowing how capcom works.
Thank you, Good Sir 👍
No, thank you 👍
Way way smoother in towns and city's on my 7800x3d with frame gen, the stutters/1% lows used to be horrendous but feels pretty good now! Not perfect but actually can play without being distracted by lurching stutters. Only annoying thing is the fact frame gen is tied to using DLSS for some reason? Don't think this DLSS implementation looks particularly good on the grass/foliage looks quite smeary at times compared to native but I can live with it.
Yeah, some DLSS FG implementations seem to follow their own rules. FG is decoupled in most games, but not here, abd DLSS SR has a few issues in this game.
It's a pity you need FG for smoother experience in town, but it is much better than before when using FG.
Actually seems to run better than I expected but only with DLSS 3 FG enabled. CPU limited perf without FG still needs work. They should also implement FSR 3 FG because not everyone playing this game has an RTX 40 Series GPU. Incidentally, I wonder if those DLSS 3 FG to FSR 3 FG mods would work decently enough with this game?
Yeah, frame gen really helps a ton now, whereas previously even with FG it was a mess. Just a pity it basically requires FG if you want more than 60 fps. Will try the DLSS 3 FG to FSR 3 FG mod on my 2070 Super system.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews let us know what happens in game with that PLEASE...i play w rtx3060 12gb so not great at all
Unfortunately the FSR3 mod has really bad UI jitter. Not playable in my eyes.
@@rejectxz Yeah, the mod is hit or miss, especially since it's not UI aware in a lot of games. Thanks for the feedback!
very good news
Guess ill still keep on waiting til its 100% hopefully itll be on sale by then
Saw someone say it's $40 now, not sure if on a key site or where, but I think at $40 it's probably worth considering now. But I hear you, you'd want a $70 AAA game to be at least playable, and this gets it closer, but not quite there yet.
I played the Testversion on Steam and i got Always a tearing efdect that Looks Like rain and dont know why, i got a 4070 ti super, ryzen 7 7800 X3D and 32GB RAM, tested all settings and nothing changed so whats the Problem ?
Did you enable DLSS? The normal rendering option is interlaced in this game, and it looks horrible. You can switch to progressive, or enable DLSS. That said, it still looks very bad in some places.
If that doesnt fix it then I'm not sure what's causing it.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews i tested with dlss and without and all different settings and still the same issue, i think they need a hotfix or Something, but anyway i will Not buy it
How is performance on Xbox series s? I’ve been wanting to play the game but still not sure cause of everything I heard
Digital Foundry just released a video showing the performance on the consoles, including the Series S. Give it a watch, they go into great detail 👍
If they remove Denuvo performance will be better.
I'm not convinced. It might be better, but will still not be great I think. Consoles dont use Denuvo (I think, correct me if I am wrong) and it runs terribly there still, even after the latest update.
So with these updates how much FPS would I get with R5 5600 and RX6750XT?
Really difficult to say and I unfortunately dont have my 5600 CPU anymore. There is a trial version on Steam if you want to test before buying.
Around 10% fps more or less?
I guess they forced to do it since they already planning to release DLC later on
Still.. FPS is bad, they need like 75% fps improvement.. even modern 2023-2024 CPUs have bad utilization in this game engine
My RX 7900xtx / Ryzen 7700x / DDR5 OC to 6400 (30cl) & still get low as 50 fps in main city before the patch
I Pre-ordered this game, tried it never continued the game.. I waited for CPU fix.. might jump & check the fps now, hope the next update gives us more fps
Yeah, it's definitely better, but also definitely needs more work indeed.
What FPS software are you using?
Hey, using CapFrameX in this video 👍
I know many people were skeptical if they could make any headway on cpu performance I know so many people were hoping for much more gains but hopefully this isn't the last cpu fix and at least the frame gen helps
Definitely a step in the right direction, and at least now with frame gen it's much better. But agreed, hopefully they dont stop there.
Ps5 now has low graphics option and wow the fps really improved from 30fps to 45~60 fps.
Definitely a step in the right direction for sure 👍
Thnx for making this updated video. Im still staying away from this one.
Such a shame really, as it is a good game, just very poor on a technical level. Frustrates me to no end.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews I played Dark Arisen for so many hours. Really loved it. Was also hoping DD2 would be better but oh well. Just have to wait and see if theyre gonna fix it.
I started playing Dark Arisen about 3 months before DD2 released and found it very enjoyable. I had a few issues though, for instance the game would insta-crash when going to the new expansion area, and I'll have to reload a save multiple times before it worked. Found it the issue was caused by reshade 🤦♂️
How is performance with RT enabled now - could you check that? :)
Literally just did ;)
It's fine actually. This game's RT isnt that heavy except in certain areas.
Using the same settings as in the video, 1440p + DLSS Quality + Frame Generation I get around 130 fps in Vernworth.
Same settings without Frame Gen is around 60-80 fps in Vernworth.
Same settings without Frame Gen or DLSS Upscaling is also still around 60-80 fps.
With RT Enabled it never dropped below 60 fps in the city at all at 1440p, no matter the settings.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Wow - that is not to bad, potentially playable now. :) How much of an improvement was it from previous would you say?
@@gamez12100 On average it looks to be around 20% better on my system, but the biggest improvement came in the form of more consistent frame times. Before I would need to lock it at 100 fps even with FG to not have any dips, and now locking to 120 fps keeps a consistent 120 fps, so that's a win for me!
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews I just played the trial of the game (2 hours) on 7800X3D + RTX4090 with everything maxed out + DLLS Quality and FrameGen (4K res). I got many big stutters especially on scene cuts. May be shader compilation issue, although I noticed the game did have a shader compilation step on first load. What's you experience here? I actually would like to buy and play the game, but still in doubt if those big hitches will disappear after a while. (Which is still far from ideal, but I could live with it.)
Thanks for the vid. But the real question is?
Does the camping kit still weight 7 fuckin kg?
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣
The starting one does, or the one you find very early. The Elite kit weighs 4 kg. Been a while since I properly played it so not sure if any of that changed.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Thank you for the quick response 😀 That pissed me so much its the 1st reason I stopped playing this game. This and 2nd reason is persistant missing health after you take some damage. I was playing a 2H Warrior who takes damage regularly since he facetank everything while charging the attacks. These two went hand in hand.
@@budlikycz2445 Two very good reasons to quite playing for sure! The game itself is good, but it suffers a lot in the technical department, and I hate stuff like that 😥
Good news, but I ain't touching this game until it hits at least 80% Positive on recent Steam reviews. Who knows if the team will actually support and improve the game to that point.
I think many people have given up, so I guess the ratings on Steam wont change until they drop DLC, and the issue is fixed. Otherwise it will be more of the same.
the npc pop in is still kind of gross.
Gross is the correct term to use 🤣
One of the biggest problems for me, I've uninstalled and won't go back until it's running acceptably.
@@LucifersBeard332 Yeah, that's fair
@LucifersBeard332 it wasnt there when they launched the game they just added it as a "fix" because performance was so bad. its not the worst thing ever maybe itll be gone when they remove denuvo in a few months.
they made it worse after t his new patch
somhow, ime getting lower preformance now then ever. cant move my mouse wihtout it dropping from 80 to 30 fps
in the city. outside the city i have 130 and it goes from 130 to 100 fps
Why didn't you try? RT ON??
Time was a bit of an issue, and I only wanted to test the performance uplift, not a full benchmark. The 10-20% performance improvement applies to RT as well when CPU bound in the city. But outside the city the performance is pretty much the same as before as we are mostly GPU bound there 👍
I don’t understand how they play tested this and thought meh good enough to me if a game doesn’t have consistent decent frame rate it’s unplayable
Like most companies that put out terrible performing games, I think they just didnt care. People will buy it and we can fix it later kind of thing. It's frustrating as hell!
Did they remove denuvo yet? Performance won't be properly optimized until this is done.
While Denuvo can impact performance, there are many games that have Denuvo that run fine. Even if they remove Denuvo here the game will still run pretty bad in the cities just because of the way the AI is handled. The developers have claimed that AI is the issue, so hopefully they can still sort it out. Not very confident though.
they will probably remove denuvo in a few months they usually only pay for a year of denuvo the games probably on cracked sites already anyway.
The thing I have the biggest issues with, NPC popping in, has not been fixed, so to me everything else is useless. I cannot take a game seriously in 2024 if I have people literally appearing out of thin air in front of me, it absolutely destroys my immersion. In the endgame is absolutely ridiculous, you have literally entire villages spawn in front of your eyes after 5-10 seconds (if you are lucky). I don't know if it's an engine issue or a cpu issue but whatever it is it absolutely needs fixing or I won't buy any dlc for this game.
Yeah, the NPC pop-in is crazy! A real turn-off indeed.
Same performance on a 5800x3d
You mean same performance as before the patch?
Its insane to be getting any dips below 60 on a current gen cpu. Unacceptable
Yeah, I absolutely agree. For a modern AAA game this shouldnt happen.
rtx3060 12gb vs rtx4070 super 200% better fps in the game so much is the difference(1080p w my and 1440p w 4070 so alot of fps if i gotten a better pc)
But my runs the games in a ok fps n settings so happy w that so whats next to release n how demanding will games be in the next 12months,will the rtx4070 even get alot lower fps(down to 40 instead or will that be years away is a good question?)
Thanks 4 video....Just tried game n was shocked how bad the fps was in game n with how it looks its another "STARFIELD"all over again...or kind of anyway..
Yeah, the visuals definitely dont match the performance here. Game should run much better than it does. I still thought it was a good game, but definitely needs some work on a technical level.
Its much better on series x
You mean this patch is much better than previous version on Series X? If so, I'm very happy to hear that!
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews performance wise its better but still has issues.
@@xMtF54x Ah okay, yeah, same here. It's better, but still problematic. That's unfortunate!
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews at least they are working on it this combat is just too amazing to let this game fade away.
@@xMtF54x 100% agreed. The game is great, it's literally only the performance issues that is a negative for me. Really love the game otherwise.
4070 s and playing at a 60hz Monitor 😂
I play on a 165hz monitor 🤦♂️ Maybe if you listened during the intro you wouldve heard me mention that I am using a capture card to record all my benchmarks. You know, a 4K60 MK2 Elgato capture card, that when connected, shows up as 60hz...
