Stalker 2 - Steam Version vs Xbox GamePass Version - RTX 4090 Benchmark
In this video we have a look at S.TA.L.K.E.R 2 Heart of Chornobyl, and see if there are any differences between the Steam version of the game and the Xbox GamePass version of the game.
It is often the case that the Xbox GamePass version of the game on PC lacks feature parity with Steam versions, especially when it comes to DLSS and Frame Generation Technologies, but I am happy to report that Stalker 2 has full feature parity.
Are there any performance differences in Stalker 2 between the two versions on PC though? Well, that's what we try to find out doing a very short run in one of the more demanding town areas.

In this video I explore what I think is possibly one of the best looking and best performing Unreal Engine 5 games currently out there. Unreal Engine 5 games typically are very heavy and they are accompanied by lots of shader compilation and traversal stutter. Empire of the Ants both looks good and runs great, with no shader compilation or traversal stutter at all! Empire of the Ants supports D...

Since its launch, Once Human has received quite a few patches, and today we are going to look at Patch version 1.3. One thing I was very interested in is CPU usage and power draw, as at launch the game was very heavy on the CPU, and this 14600KF would draw up to 150 watt at times! They have also added upscaling in the form of XeSS, DLSS, and FSR, as well as DLSS and FSR Frame Generation. The ad...

The GeForce RTX 3070. 8GB VRAM Issues? Gaming in 2024?
My 7800x3d and 4080 super gets 80-90fps on medium with quality and FG
I don't understand, what's the difference between the PC Game Pass and the Steam version ? Both are running on a PC with raytracing and all ? No?
Sometimes they employ different DRM tactics and their stores' overlays also can have an impact. If you want to see a massive difference between stores go look up CoD BO6 Battlenet vs Steam. At times the difference is up to 100 fps more on Battlenet. That's an outlier of course, but it happens, so I wanted to see if there is a difference here. Often the Xbox App version of games doesnt have all DLSS features. I did a video in June where I tested quite a few games and performance can vary quite a bit at times between the different versions.
i have use GTX1080Ti AORUS GIGABYTE and i consider buy one more VGA. and i select RX6800XT! and wanna get same brand stuff the AORUS haha btw this Benchmark look so really powerful. even setup to 1080p Ultra and the FPS is 75-90. this point make me impressive!
I see many people claiming they're not CPU bound because CPU usage isn't showing 100%. Most of these softwares show the overall CPU usage, not per-core, and most of the time games aren't capable of taking advantage of all the available cores. I tell them to change their resolution and only the resolution to the lowest; if they're still getting the same FPS, then they are CPU bound. Imagine someone gaming on a Threadripper, that shit will barely use 5% of CPU lol :D By the way, there's one game that is actually quite stunning as far as utilizing available cores go. Check Doom Eternal benchmarks. Unlike most, if not (nearly) all of the games where per-core speeds matter quite a bit as they cannot utilize more than a few cores, Doom Eternal can utilize nearly all available ones. 3800X/5800X/7800X usually yield superior FPS in those games, but in Doom Eternal 3950X/5950X/7950X which feature more cores but a lower per core speed yield more FPS. It's a technical marvel!
I don't understand why they just don't put a powerful cpu into a GPU, add 128 gigabyte of ddr 7 shared ram and 4 ssd slots directly on the graphics card! It would get rid of the ridiculous bottlenecking! It could future proof for many years also. We are almost in 2025, we should have 8k gaming graphics! Nothing should be 1080p or 1440p! Its like these people still are using Betamax and VCR's in their home entertainment systems!
I just got my new system with 4070 ti super and I love it.However, I still have my "old" monitor with 2k@75hz. I tried to play Helldivers 2 today with DSR@4k and my card goes up to 105 degrees but it is around 75-80 at 2k@75hz. So I am struggling if I should get a 2k@180hz monitor or get a 4k one (not sure how many hz for 4k yet) or may I should just wait for monitor price to goes down or a new one comes? I mostly play single player games except I play Overwatch religiously. Any opinions would be appreciated :)
When i was testing the black ops 6 beta on gamepass and steam i found the gamepass version better performance wise and less issues the only annoying one being downloading the game through the broken xbox app for pc other than that it ran smoothly on gamepass compared to steam
Buddy, thank you a ton; this video taught me that RivaTuner has a Reflex setting for the frame cap. Thanks to you, it's solved and all of them (frame generation, frame cap and VSYNC) are usable at the same time! For years, I've been using what I call the "HoboSync"; VSYNC ON from NVidia Control Panel combined with a Frame Cap from RivaTuner to eliminate screen tearing and input lag at the same time. It's also good for your GPU on the long run. The frame generation technology I never got to use because as you're trying to showcase in this video, it introduced the massive input lag back. No more! edit: Tested with STALKER 2. Smooth as butter!
So the funny thing is I only found out about that after I uploaded my initial video about this topic and people helped me in the comments! I then deleted that video and made this one. So we both learned something new haha!
Stuttering and low FPS is anomaly 😅
For this to work do I need to keep rtss open when running the game?
Indeed. Mine starts up with MSI Afterburner and stays minimized.
Is that Afrikaans accent I hear
Dit is inderdaad 🤣
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Aha! That’s awesome 🤣
if someone has got an i3 cpu than obv that person is playing at 1080p . playing at 1440p with an i3 is obv bottleneckking. i have an i3 and playing cyberpunk at 1080p with no bottlenecks whatsoever.
One of the ways to alleviate a CPU bottleneck is to increase resolution. The lower your resolution, the more frames your GPU can render, the more is required from the CPU.
you test in unstable cpu-intesvie location. do a normal benchark outside a town, and do 3 runs to average results.
Yes, I purposely tested a CPU heavy area to see if there are differences... That was the plan.
I’ve got an I5-10400F and 3060 and my cpu usage is 100% while my gpu doesn’t go past like 46-47 usage. I honestly don’t know if this is ok and what to do about it. Maybe my cpu is just too weak for the game?
Which game is this happening the most in? I have a 12400F and a 3060 system as well, and even the 12400F holds back the 3060 in many games at 1080p.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Cyberpunk. It’s done this in other games but I was able to change settings to get it to stop but for cyberpunk no matter what I change it stays at 100% usage
Okay, makes sense in Cyberpunk. I had a 9600K and it too would run at 100% usage all the time, with my 3070 running at around 80%. Unfortunately Cyberpunk is just too heavy on your CPU, and it's holding your GPU back. 100% CPU usage would also result in more stuttering. The only solution is to upgrade your CPU if you want better performance. If you are fine with the performance as it is then dont worry about it. The CPU running at 100% in games is not going to cause issues, except for not making full use of your GPU, and the increased stuttering.
So I have a question. If I have a ryzen 7600x bottleneck (bought 7600x like 3 months ago to wait for 9800x3d with normal price and ofc availability so I would sell my cpu so also didn't want to spend much money) with 4070 ti super is it possible that it cause stutters even if I lock my fps with cpu usage less than 50% even sometimes less than 30%? I have stutters in most games. For example I have like 400fps in cs2 so I lock it on 280fps but still have stuttering, even against bots so it's not internet problem (cs2 sometimes has some problems with network - loss). Also I checked my old gtx 1070 with new pc and it seems like there are no stutters in cs2 and much less in different games like PUBG. I tested some games with same settings and lock fps at ~85-99% usage of gtx1070 (just min fps which I got) and then tested same games with same settings and same fps lock with 4070 ti s (so if I had min 70 fps with gtx1070 I lock it at 70fps, test and then I lock fps at 70 with 4070 ti s too) and I had much more stutters with 4070ti s even if gpu usage was 60% with cpu usage ~40%. So I had a similar cpu usage (never more than 60%) and ofc much less gpu usage with 4070 but much more stuttering. I'm not sure if it's a gpu (or its driver) problem or just a bottleneck. I don't know if it is possible to have cpu bottleneck stuttering with cpu usage ~30-40% by frame cap. Without locking fps it's like ~50% cpu usage (gpu 75-85) so still not 100% like in the first part of the video. I saw some stutters in the first part so i decided to ask if it is possible to have them with 80% gpu and 50% cpu usage because I see that there are no stutters in the 2nd case on video. Also I notice that if I lock fps in cs2 on 220, it's never 220, it's like 195-209 in match (I can get 220 without players or bots on map). The problem is that with gtx1070 if I lock 220 it's 220 with some drops and also even 1%low and 0,1low are lower with 4070 ti s. Without fps lock it's terribly low with avg 400fps+ and 1%low - 95 fps, 0.1%low - 60. Also in different games 1% and 0.1% low are awful too.
And ofc I tried to install Windows again, drivers reinstallation by DDU (I tested my old 1070 so I had to), tried different chipset drivers, some optimization guide like game bar rename/disable, DXCache files uninstall, NVIDIA hd audio disable (this one helped me with stuttering which made some games unplayable but still there are so frustrating frametime drops, less but still), simple BIOS option like disable expo profile, Resize bar.
And this is best case scenario, imagine those with <13th gen CPUs like myself. Horrible experience.
Yeah exactly. I have a 12400F as well and it's basically unplayable.
Bro, this game gets the exact same frame-rate as black myth wukong at 4k DLAA cinematic LOL.
Make it make sense 🤣

Might be actually.
Getting under 40 fps with a 4090 at 1080p......lmao this game needs optimization badly
I get 40-50 fps 1440p on mostly high settings on my RTX 2070 Super DLSS on Quality, no frame generation. With frame gen I get 70-80fps
For real. Especially for a game that will be heavily modded later. It's going to be rough.
@D_Spooky Its not even close to that bad of performance. I get 40-50 on most high/epic settings. 1440p. In town. On my RTX 2070. My friend on his 3080 gets 100+ fps. Its really not as bad as most people say.
Impressive benchmarks comparing the Steam and Xbox Game Pass versions of STALKER 2 on an RTX 4090! It's encouraging to hear that even with an RTX 4060, you're achieving excellent graphics at 2K resolution. With upcoming patches, the game's performance is bound to improve further. I also create videos about STALKER 2 and was amazed by the unexpected reactions when throwing a grenade into an anomaly-truly mind-blowing!"
Thanks man. Yeah, the biggest issue for me currently is CPU performance. It is very inconsistent, which messes with the feel of the game a lot! I really hope it gets resolved quickly because it is an awesome game. Will check your channel out!
Here is why ReSTIR DI/GI is so expensive TODAY. The base cost of these techniques are hight because you start tracing rays per pixel. If you play in 4K DLLS Performance mode that mean you trace for each pixel in 1920x1080 grid. Now for example CP2077 shoots 6 ray per pixel up to 2 bounces for each fram of that grid. Now you do the math on it how many calculations that is... The great advantage of this is that although today it is heavy even on the best GPUs this cost is much more scalable then any other technique meaning, that ReSTIR DI/GI traces against everything withing BVH and camera view. If RTX 50series will again double the speed in which rays can be calculated that means you will in theory get double the performance. So RT is actually smart way of how to light the scenes and I wouldn't blame developers wanting to leverage that. With that being said it is important to understand that not everygame necessarily needs RT lighting or reflections. From what I have seen so far the biggest impacts are when the game uses a lot of dynamic lights, changing time of day or dense forests. Other than that you can get away with pre-baked lighting and game will look great in the still shots but as soon as you introduce any dynamic objects in the scene (torches, lights, particles, muzzle flashes...) it will start to show it's videogamy look. My point is that the RT feature have this sort of flat cost which means that future GPUs will not neccesarily need to be more powerful to get the same results and focus might shift from lighting to simulating physics or A.I. for example.
GP over 6-7 fps difference in certain spots. Not much, but they can do a lot of difference in heavy scenarios. Steam bloatware lord confirmed.
The game's framerate varies wildly. The same run may result in 5 fps lower, or 5 fps higher. That is why averages and lows are important here as it gives you the result over time, and in that case there is basically no difference.
If in playing an old games from The 2000’s with rtx4060 i5 gen13 , does asus 4k can be an option for Me?
Yeah for sure. The 4060 is about equal to an RTX 2080, and for older games it is sufficient for 4K.
Would've loved to have seen a loading time comparison
I had no idea people would be interested in that still. Will remember for the next video.
Game runs fantastic for me. Runs smooth, no stuttering or at least none that I've noticed. I've had a few bugs with the UI and got stuck in the scenery once. By far the only significant issue I've had is crashing which has happened more times than I can remember. The game is so good though I don't really care and I know it'll get fixed. Game pass 3090 12700k 4k Dlss balanced Fsr frame gen Epic settings. 100fps+ in the wilds 70-90 in towns
So are we buying actual rendering devices (gpu) or just stuff which runs ai software at this point? I don't like how people got nvidia's idea which practically goes like this: "Moores law is dead and therefore we have to make gpus which only run bunch of ai software."
@1tsbag134 I don't care. I'm having fun.
@@grahamt19781 Yes, i didn't state anywhere it wasn't fun, but it doesn't run good. It runs horrible.
@@1tsbag134 yeah I appreciate it does for a lot of people. I'm suspecting vram makes a big difference with this game. Those cards with 8gb are just not cutting it anymore and I already called it when the 3080 was announced.

Thinks can be done about that 😅
That is the intel's fault. Ryzen is better.
@@TDIFLY And things will be done about it!
I feel like I've been very luck regarding STALKER 2. I run a 9700x and 4070ti super and I've had almost no issues. The game runs great. I usually get between 90 - 120 fps, 2k, max settings. Worst FPS drops happens in towns where it can hover around the mid 80's. No stuttering however. Usually I'm super unlucky with unoptimized games, lol.
Any upscaling?
@ I forgot to mention. DLSS Quality and Frame Gen.
@ That would make sense lol. I’m on a 3080 ti so i plan on using fsr 3.1 with dlss quality
@@mrdinosaurproductions9507i got 3080 ti currently running at 4k on high settings on quality mode with fsr frame gen around 60-100 fps depends if in town. Works great
@@mrdinosaurproductions9507 I hope it works well for you!
Interesting vid, I usually try to avoid Microsoft/Xbox app when I can but bought BO6 on there as was cheaper Stalker 2 actually running a lot better on my 7900XTX, loading is faster also after getting killed, where as on the 4080 it felt like sometimes all assets being loaded, something slows it down and then again those horrible slowdowns in certain areas on the 4080 Could be an Nvidia driver issue, XTX I haven't run into any issues so far like I was before
Very interesting indeed. Could be driver / overhead issue. Appreciate you sharing! Are you going to stay with the 7900XTX now, or chop and change depending on which games you play the most?
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Most likely chop & change because I do like the 4080 Super for the heavier RT games & more geared Nvidia titles. However the XTX does do surprisingly well on games like Dying light 2 at 4K with everything maxed RT. I get like 65fps-70fps base & the 4080 super was getting more fps with the RT on but not as much as I thought. So very dependant on the game I do prefer the XTX for FC 25, COD and games like that.
Gives me something to think about however for my next upgrade. I think I could easily go AMD if they release something better than the XTX with even stronger RT that be great Nvidia I'm not buying a 5090 and I want more than 16GB vram next gen so that's my issue lol DLSS is better than FSR no question, the tech is better for RT etc but AMD have their own tech and I don't think I'd be that sad about missing out on Nvidia enough, i've tested both sides and think both you can enjoy enough on Red or the Green team For me comes down to price ultimately, I haven't got any agenda against either Hopefully Intel get better also
I'd highly recommend AMD to anyone, it's always thought as awful but no chance. FSR 4 hopefully gives it a boost as they do need better upscaling & the AFMF works even better now for games that don't support FG for AMD Tried it out on Veilguard and that works great I can't feel any input lag now, months ago it felt bad so I didn't use it much 👍
@@RJTHEGAMEnvidia is better in literally everything besides vram and price. I hate it. They kinda push you to getting the top of the line card in which the 5090 has 32gb vram. Then the 5080 will have.... 16!!! LIKE CMON HOW STINGY IS THAT? Nothing in between is pathetic. Amd needs to catch up in everything tech wise. Even stream encoding quality is not as good. Hoping they step it up because paying upto $2500 for a 5090 is not what i wanna do.
I wonder how good this game will be in 6 months
If the previous Stalker games are anything to go by, probably not much 🤣 The devs do seem committed to fixing it though, so here's to hoping!
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews old games have a horrible engine to work with and very difficult to patch and develop x-ray , also devs were very small team, didnt sold well , they almost disband the company at many points , they got to make stalker 2 most of all from their own devs money, burrowed and also die hard fans from the stalker OG, which they never left, i mean its been a decade and half since i play stalker SoC.
@@emanuel81111 Yeah, I was only joking. Making games of this scope back then was for sure challenging.
@@emanuel81111 Ue5 is bad too. The only optimised ue5 game is Ready or Not. I legitimately think that source is superior engine to this one. Rather than chasing graphics realism, we should focus more on art style which makes games look great 20 years after their release (Half life 2). It gives immortality to games.
@@1tsbag134 true, and also ready or not is optimized i think because it was made in UE4 before an they still have baked lighting, i dont think they are using lumen or even nanite for that matter. UE5 with lumen and nanite is a glorified photorealistic that ask everything from your hardware. either play it on 30fps with no delay or 60fps with all the input delay.
Interesting. Very slight advantage for GP. On another note, I find it interesting how much more demanding TSR is compared to DLAA. My initial benchmarks through the same area you tested here was done using TSR Ultra Quality with 100% resolution scaling. With DLAA, I actually get about 4% higher performance at 1080p, and up to 10% at 4K. DLAA looks better, too.
That is very interesting. Usually DLAA is slightly heavier. I actually havent tested that yet, let me do so real quick!
Just tested it, and I have to use TSR Balanced to get the same performance I get when using DLAA. I think TSR might be broken here as TAA native performs better than TSR Balanced.
Finally, feature parity between Xbox and Steam versions haha.
It has to be the first game at release that has feature parity when it comes to DLSS features! This basically proves all those wrong that say that DLSS features not in other games on Game Pass is a store issue.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews i mean it may well have been a problem that was fixed recently
@@FatfighterXD1 I dont think so. Remnant 2 has DLSS and DLSS FG on both Steam and Xbox App, and games that released after it didnt have that feature parity, and the excuse given was store limitations. Not by Microsoft, just by people speculating.
Cod warzone is broken on steam battlenet version is the best
Yeah, I saw that too. Kinda insane actually. Usually the differences between stores are minimal. A few % in the lows, maybe 5% in averages, but the differences in CoD BO6 are crazy!
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews I think steam version is still broken.
@@Decki777 I only have the gamepass version, but maybe I'll steal my brother's account and check out the battlenet version in comparison. From what I saw online the differences are 100+ fps on high-end systems.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews luckily I bought the Battlenet BO6 version. I hope steam will fix the issue soon.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews i have seen if you disable the voice chat on the steam version it slighly helps with fps
Testing whether there are performance differences in Stalker 2 between the Xbox Game Pass version of the game and the Steam version with the RTX 4090 at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. We just do a short run here in the first town you come across as it can be both CPU and GPU limited. I have a slight overclock on the GPU VRAM here, bumping it up to 24gbps, up from the usual 21gbps.
Does S2 support ReBAR? Have you maybe checked how it works with and without it?
oof, the game doesn't look that impressive and to have it run this poorly on a really good PC like this, is sad.
Maybe my YT recording is not the best, but the game really looks very good. Some aspects of it I'm not impressed with, but overall it's a good looking game. That said, CPU performance is absolutely brutal in towns, and should be high up on the list of issues to fix for sure.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews I guess I should have said that for the performance, it doesn't look that great. It isn't a bad looking game, but with the load on the CPU and GPU, I guess I was expecting amazing graphics, like they showed at the reveal.
@@mwdavis77 Ah okay, I hear you. Yeah, performance is brutal. I really hope they can improve it substantially.
What drivers for the graphics card? Please mention

Большое спасибо за пожертвование!
Thanks for showing this. I'm going to wait to buy it until after a few patches.
I'm not sure if this was worth a seperate title from the 2020 one
Im planing to buy a ryzen 7600X and a 4080 Super. It's a good combo? How it will run this game compared to you? It also have 32 GB DDR5 6000MHz of ram and 2TB SSD.
What resolution will you be targeting? There will be a few games where the 7600X will bottleneck it at 1440p, but overall it wont be too bad.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews 1440p and 4k
@@TheHernaki You'll be mostly fine, especially at 4K. You'd get a bit more performance at 1440p if you had a faster CPU, but it wont be the end of the world, and whether an extra 10-15% will be worth the money is completely up to you.
you need to lock framerates and turn framegen off. If the framerate is allowed to run wild it dips massively.
My pc specs are rtx 4080 super and amd ryzen 9 7950x3d and its not running well like it has stuttering issues and like its laging very badly game is great but i wished it was a little well optimised and i was playing in 4k
Game is very CPU heavy. We're getting a patch next week so hopefully it improves.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews thank you very much for replying actually this is my first pc build and i am very new to pc gaming and pc community so i was worried btw my full specs are ryzen 9 7950x3d , rtx 4080 super , 7200mhz ddr5 ram , samsung 990 evo pro ssd so i just want to ask my pc can handle most of games at 4k right ? Because many people are saying rtx 4080 super is a 2k graphics card . And btw your channel is so helpful you earned a sub
@@v8706 Thanks for the sub! Yeah, you have a monster PC there. Sure, in the most modern games the 4080 Super might not do 4K 60 fps without upscaling, but that is mostly true for games that use ray tracing. It's definitely capable of solid 4K performance, and games that dont use ray tracing you shouldnt have issues getting decent framerates at 4K. If it starts to struggle just enable DLSS Quality or even Balanced. It still looks great and you get a decent boost to the framerate!
I have 7950x3d and 4080 super - I play at 2k and getting around 150 fps stable
@@preetgill-l8h With frame generation obviously.
You've got a cpu bottleneck lol
Just wait for the hot fixes coming in the next day or two. Can only get better from then on.
Yep, the devs are quite committed to improving things so I reckon we'll see hotfixes before too long.
Who would have thought that this card would have outlast and be future proof having been launched in June 16th of 2016 and still showing off by playing games developed 5 years after Ha!!! this card is still a beast at 8gb of RAM.
I have 120 fps~ with 4k ultra rt ultra fg on dlss quality with 4080 and 7500f 7500f makes bottaneck in this game for a first time even cp2077 with full graphics didnt cause bottlaneck and i bought 7800x3d from friend and im sure even 7800x3d will have bottlaneck
Yeah, game can be quite CPU intensive, even on top-end CPU's, and especially when RT is being used.
I honestly can't trust any performance benchmark without the GPU busy stat
I would use it in all my benchmarks but sometimes it goes a bit haywire after changing settings 😔
