- Hey folks, welcome back. I've been asked many times how people can access the online content in Dragon Quest IX and unfortunately due to Nintendo's servers going down for the DS family of systems it would seem impossible. However, I have found a way. In this video I show you how to access the DQVC which allows you to access a shop with tons of exclusive items as well as the special Inn guests and the special Treasure maps. For connecting with a 3ds using the 3ds wifi didnt seem to work, but the in game wifi settings got it first try.

@@suunnebelmond it breaks my heart even more to find out that he’s not dead (in the post game) and becomes a grotto boss for high level maps. He has been driven insane and doesn’t remember himself, and attacks you without recognition.

I'm with you OP. Add in as well that were some features that were originally planned to be in the game but can't remember the specific reason whether it was due to the limits of NDS and/or was it due to the limit in disk space of the NDS' cartridge, that they have to not include them. The supposed missing content was that empty left room in the Stornway Inn.

Still amazes me there are no news or rumors about it at this point. Seeing the community and all the petitions about this remake over the years, it's clear that if DQ9 remake ever happen it will be one of the best Switch games and they will sell easily many copies making a big profit.

Dragon Quest 9 deserves a remake for the Switch in my opinion but I don’t know what we can do to make it happen. We could keep pestering Square Enix about but I don’t think that would work because they’re most likely busy with some other projects right now. I’m sure they’ll at least think about it but I’m not going to have my hopes up for a future release. If we get it, good but if not will be disappointing because it was a great game in the 3DS’s library to say the least.

It worked! Even as a kid when the game was in its prime I never figured out how to connect to dqvc.

Uhh. Unsure. All I know from when I tried it is that you can download all the various dlc quests and special guests to... Whatever the planning place is called. I never had an opportunity to delve into actual multiplayer (even when the game was new) so I wouldn't know the first thing about where to start.
This guide that I got with the game when I first purchased it 10 years ago says that there are DLC quests. Does this method download those as well?
When I had tried it, yes. And good too, because iirc there's something like 100 dlc quests in the game. >.> But yeah I'm fairly certain this method is just like how it would have been had you accessed the dlc for the game in the past when things were active.
@@Kiptracx Perfect! I could care less about the items but care more about the side quests and their rewards. I think some are needed from the DLC to get some vocations.

I started a couple of months ago and got the rare drops from legacy bosses (Bless Hoimi Table)
But unfortunately, can't upgrade everything to 5-stars due to some Legacy Bosses locked behind DLC.

This game is my childhood and it's always killed me how I could never access the quests you can only get from going to the online server. Thank you so much for this video! I'm not currently able to try it out but I can't wait! I'm over the moon rn!

I find it funny when someone says a game like this was their childhood. It was mine too, but it was also my teenagehood and now my young adulthood. I never stopped playing, and I wouldnt want to think too long about how many hours Ive poured into my handful of playthroughs of the game. I first got the game when I was about 11, now Im almost 26, still playing. Roughly the same deal with Minecraft, Runescape (started that much earlier actually), Magic The Gathering and a few Gamecube games.

if it means anything, during the Square Enix DQ9 anniversary stream, they said they wouldn't be opposed to the idea, and if it were to be on the switch they could implement similar online systems as the original DS version, as well as overhaul the visuals to look like dragon quest 11. given how similar they want to go in visuals, it might not be entirely speculation to assume if they did do a DQ9 remake it might have voice acting and an orchestral soundtrack just like 11 does. some of the leads on the original DQ9 game even said level-5 could handle the remake and speculated it wouldn't take that long to make as the original DQ9 source code still exists and they even said they could add more content to the game in a remake version
when their discussion started to get too in depth, miyake had to clarify nothing was planned or in development but that if they could get support from what fans wanted as well as support from the leads at square enix and level-5, it is entirely possible. so while they're not getting too far ahead of themselves in the possibility of a remake, a lot of people, even those who previously worked on DQ9, want it to happen, so there's a pretty good chance it might in the near future if you ask me
@@ecksdee1115 Ye i saw the entire live xd. I think it will happen, and im 100% sure it will be on switch, but im not sure about pc. Its a possibility, cause they launched dqXI and it went so well. So im counting the days for an anouncement hahaha.
This was my first DQ game and I spent so much time playing it with my brother and friend. Awesome video dude! Might load it up after watching this.
This was not only my first Dragon Quest too, but it was my introduction to the JRPG genre!
I got stuck on numerous bosses first playthrough, including Tyrantula, Purrviss, and the final boss, but I still loved it!
And I still do, despite never doing the steps required for wifi. Now, with this video, I know how!

Mom straight up refused to get us internet until long after the servers were closed for good so it's nice to be able to come back as an adult and enjoy everything I missed out on
I had to wait for my grandmother to take me and my brother to burger king to dinner the wifi worked for this! But we didn't go often my wifi wouldn't work either 😢 but now I use the hotspot method ❤

Coming over here to confirm that as of may 2022 this still works! And it's fantastic to play along with 2 people and I can't even imagine what it would be like with 4. Thanks for the tutorial my friend!
Edit: Oh, and i found it easier to simply use my phone as a router using my data plan, disabling the security, hiding the address so other people can't access (all done through the the router configurations on the phone) and setting up the connection manually.
This reminded me of an alleged interview i read a while ago where some of the devs for DQIX mentioned that they'd love to make a remake of it if they got the permission for it.

exact same make as the DSlite I had and played DQIX on. Damn thing broke in half in 2011 right as I got my 3ds lol
i think i still should have mine somewhere, although it is not in that good of a shape as his. even though i treat my consoles carefully i manage to drop them quite often and such. I think it still works though ... and battery is most likely better off than the one in my current smartphone XD

A different way (also a little safer because you don't have to leave your wifi open is to use a whitelist system (i just used my phone for wifi, set no password, connected my ds, whitelisted it then allowed only whitelisted devices to connect) so that only the device you whitelisted can connect.
This (method, either one in fact) doesn't prohibit you from playing with other people, you can still play with other people (if you can find someone who still plays dqix in 2020). The same methods also work with other games, like pokemon, you can still trade/battle other people, and you can do races in mario cart, ect.
How do you whotelist something? Do I still need the code from the vid?

Just got back into the game with several years respite, started a new game weeks ago. Wanted to see how the dlc’s looked but i hit a roadblock. I didn’t want to accidentally corrupt my data with the action replay so I started looking around. I eventually got here and watched the tutorial but with no open networks near i looked to my mobile hotspot (thank god for optional password settings). Thank you for your help, now my brother and I can enjoy post game with more to do. You have our gratitude, and our benevolence. Enjoy your fyggs🎉🎉.
The “no password” part is a bit misinformed. The DS is only compatible with unsecured networks and WEP-secured networks. WEP is a lot harder to come by with modern access points because it was cracked wide open several years ago. WEP is essentially the same as no security /now/ because of how easy it is to crack into, but that doesn’t mean that unsecured networks are the only option.
Use a hotspot*
You can bypass it with using hotspot. Not that difficult

Wow this is wild. I randomly picked up a used copy of DQ9 and started playing about a month ago, right when you uploaded this video. It’s my first DQ game and I’m really enjoying it so far, so it’s nice that I’ll get to access at least some of its legacy features too!

I finished this game maybe 1 or 2 months ago. I love dq games and I just had to play it. Loved it!
April 2023 still works. Had some troubles and thought this might only work for US copies of the game or something like that. Turns out this old game just doesn't support my mobile's hotspot. So if anyone fails on the network test this might be the problem
Do you have the European version of the game? Are you sure it worked? I have yet to get to the point where I can download the extra content, but I was wondering if it was still possible to do so with this method.
Hello Sackchief! I'm from Brazil, and 3 weeks ago I made a channel totally dedicated to DQ series... I'm trying to turn DQ more popular here 'cause it's one of my fav series of all time, but almost nobody really knows the games.

Hell yea, this makes me excited. dq9 was my first big rpg I ever played and it still stands up well as a fun game to go back and play even now. And this vid is exactly what I was looking for too!

At least I can still play DQ 9 locally with my little brother who'm I introduced him to this series when he was a kid, I bought this game for him on his 11th birthday.
Hope this gets a remake for the switch which is the perfect system for DQ9, also my brother who is now 20 he has his own Switch so we can go questing together again.
you could also buy a card with the DLC content on it and use a second DS device to port it over (not sure if you get the Shop Food Items and Clothes tho)

You don't know how much this means to me. I never got to fully enjoy the game because when I got it the discontinuation had already happened, so I hadn't got the full experience. I love this game down to my very core and I'm glad this ray of light has been shined on it for a bit.

Did this with a mobile hotspot on my phone and an old Dsi. It downloaded the missions, but disconnected the wifi right after that, which made it impossible for me to access the items in the shop. But having the mission content is already enough for me. Thank you for this!

Can confirm this was successful for me as of 6/5/2022! I used my motorola g3 as a hotspot (its an old-ish phone so likely that had an impact) and it connected using this code no issue. I was a bit nervous at first as it didn't connect in the diagnostic run but connected fine in game. Gardaer did a full comprehensive guide on GameFAQs which was also very helpful :) Thanks for bringing this to my radar!! Thought all this stuff was lost forever for me :,3

The first time I played Dragon quest 9 was like in 2010 when I was like 9, to the day it still remains as my favorite game of all time, I own like 3 original copies and downloaded the dqtv missions quite some time ago using this method Wich really works and it's truly amaizing, I just discovered this Chanel and it surprised me I am not the only one who still plays it to this day. Glad to hear this might try this out later, this was my first dragon quest game, got it back when it first came out for my birthday played it all the time, it was definitely a great place to get into the game, I replay it every now and then. I still find it crazy though that it was that last actual regular game until DQ11 seeing as how long it's been

I'm so happy I found this! I had to do a manual setup, not search for an access point. So I put in the name, auto obtain ip and then the DNS and it finally worked. ❤️ I've never had these dlc quests before so I'm super super happy. It doesn't bother me too much, I'm just wondering but is there a way to get the store to work too? I've tried several times but it never gives me the store.

I remember talking to you on Twitter about my gripes of being a late DQ fan playing DQ9 way after the servers have died... if I can get this to work, it'll likely incentivize me to actually continue where I last left off on my 3DS

Thanks for the trick! Connecting to a wifi was the easy part, but knowing which DNS to use was the missing ingredient I needed.

NOTE: Now when you try to add the network, it gives an error about the Nintendo Network not servicing the product anymore, just IGNORE IT! It still works perfectly fine!
Hee hee hee! I remember playing Dragon Quest IX years ago...unfortunately I lost the cartridge in a movie theater years ago, too. Thanks for the info! It makes me want to buy it again, so I can play it again. I remember how disappointed I was when the DQVC ended, so being able to have this again would make me very happy again.:)
you can also just use a save editor to set the flags for all the dlc stuff xD
Interesting video. I'll throw out another option. Caution Grey area!!! NDS adapter plus. A device that lets you make back up copies of your DS save files to your PC. And since DQ 9 code and rng was uncovered to the T, editors were created. You can load your save in the DQ9 PC save editor and check all the unlockable boxes. Or give yourself alchemiracle weapons if you don't feel like using the Homi table (What I used, this tool is cumbersome...).
It's a little in the grey area as this kind of device definitely isn't supported by Nintendo. But it's by no means piracy such as R4 cards. It's just an adapter that lets your PC read your saves from your legitimate NDS cards.
The DS servers were cut a long time ago...heh, i have the ds. Mind you, i prefer playing ds games on my 3DS...

@@mariannekawar2520 My only guess is you are connecting to a protected network. If you have a phone with a hotspot feature, I would try connecting to that. That's what saved me.
Well what happens is that I am able to connect to it but once it's starts the connection test it starts green with full bars and then suddenly no connection and an error message shows up

December 2022. Just starded replaying this game. Your technique worked perfectly, even though I'm playing with an R4 (I have the game, I just could'nt delete my +600h original save).
The first time I tried, the game said the online service no longer existed for that software, but I retried without changing anything and it worked (computer science 101).
Also I'm doing this in France, so it doesn't seem limited by frontiers (If anyone was wondering).

I got 8 and 9 after finishing act 2 of 11. Just got a Pound hdmi adapter for my ps2 to clean up the resolution on 8. Now this quick trick to get post game stuff in 9?

DQ IX got me into the series, I have so many nostalgic memories with this game, it one of the first games that helped me train my English, and to this day is one of my favorites, if it gets remade(i hope for the switch or pc) I´m buying it day 1 0 questions asked.
This game was my childhood, I have 2 thousand hours on it and have revocated lvl 99s lol

guys ive done it use a mobile hotspot it has to be samsung because iphone has to have a password but connect to the botspot enter the number and boom it worked thanks man

Thank you so much. I just wanted to access the wi-fi quests and I tried to do it with an action replay but for some reason my ds couldn't read it anymore. This is much simpler and safer.
true. I´ve read of cases where Action Replay completely ruined a save file and since the game shares DLC content with friends they would get it too
