He is an amazing musician! At age 14 he scored a perfect 1600 on the SATs and graduated at 19 from Harvard. I mean, the man is seriously gifted! Brava!
He has pure talent....there are people who can learn an instrument just by picking it up and then there are the ones who take classes and learn. R-Les definitely has that natural gift. Ive been playing the piano for the last 20 years and I fall into that second category.
So I understand people saying what he's doing isn't that difficult. What I'd say is most impressive is just how quickly he figures out what he wants to do. There's very little fumbling around. Dude plays a few notes and chords, and is like, yep I got the whole song. It's IMPRESSIVE as hell
Well congratz to you for being so talented. For us regular people it is impressive. It's not like we're all just born with the ability to play by ear. Obviously it's non musicians that are commenting so just let the people be enthused. And I don't call him a genius because he can play by ear. I call him a genius for ALL of his talent and creativity. And because he went at Harvard at age 15. He is incredibly intelligent and passionate about music. He's managed to apply his education to his art.
Point taken man. He's obviously not the best but he's passionate about what he does and he applies his self; i think that's what makes him good. As for the people who be making negative comments on people's videos, give it a rest. I play keyboard by ear, my friend he's outta this world and can play pretty much anything by ear, even dance-hall riddims. All i'm trying to say is that, if your have a talent be humble, because at the end of the day you can lose it just like that.
He is a great business man as keldur16 mentioned... You can be the best musician in the world but if no one knows who you are you won't get too far, professionally. Marketing and other business skills along with musical talent have lead to success for Ryan.
I think his talent is in producing. He may be a beast on the keys, but I wouldn't be able to draw that conclusion from this video. But as far as the finished product is concerned, he knows his way around the studio. Definitely a talented producer.
Non mais il le fait a chaque fois. Il trouve les accords de la chanson sans efforts. Des fois il trouve des passages brillants en un rien de temps. :-)
@woahthatwasawful As a piano player myself I gotta admit, what he's doing here isn't THAT HARD. But still gotta give him credit for playing by ear, which is something not everyone can do.
It's so funny to me that people think that this basic improvisation is so genius...it's cool but I mean it's pretty simple to do for anyone who's played piano for more than a couple years lol. That being said Ryan Leslie is a dope producer.
I personally have played the piano for awhile, but i cant learn and adapt the chords of a song to sound good in this short of a time lol maybe i just suck at piano
You do know that Ryan is a business man correct? His economic degree helped him run a successful business. also...his business is his art. you do know that there are many artist who went to school for things other than music right?
This is easy improve of the ear lol but i can tell that even he realizes its simple stuff ppl who dont play piano probably are like wow how can someone do this he has to bbe the best in the world lol...
I can. It's easy. Playing by ear is the single most over rated skill in the history of the world. Any real musician worth his salt will not be impressed by this. Ryan Leslie is a marketing genius though and knows non-musicians will eat this up and call him a genius when I know this kanye song and I haven't even touched my keyboard yet.
Lol at the people saying this is easy... finding a counter progression and a top line on the spot with thousands listening. Dude is a beast.

no words needed this dude is blessed
Definitely agree. People get amazed by a subject or an art they have zero experience with, but once they get familiar with the basics its so simple.
Terrific!!!
Love this song

he is a legit pianist
He is killing them chords
Dis is pure improvisation
Il place simplement 4 accords, rien d'extraordinaire.
Non mais il le fait a chaque fois. Il trouve les accords de la chanson sans efforts. Des fois il trouve des passages brillants en un rien de temps. :-)
