Well done and a very nice result. I like the idea of re-purposing the knife with the more elegant antler and wood. Antler is tricky. It has its own lines and curves. You've got to work it just right with the wood to make the lines of everything flow. A great project. I'm gonna try it.

This is beautiful! It helped me answer questions on how to join wood and antler together. Although, I think I'll try to do this without the canvas first. I'm not sure if you might now, but, I'm wondering if you have recommendations on how to repair a drilled hole that went too far in an antler? I'm making a tobacco pipe and accidentally drilled too far for the bowl piece! If a repair is possible, the materials would need to be fire resistant and safe for smoking... still searching for possibilities. No problem if you don't have a comment on that. Thank you for this video, nonetheless! Love it.

It looks absolutely amazing! Btw what kinda of wood is that dark wood you used? It's one of the prettiest things I've ever seen in the cruel kingdom of god. And also, why did you stacked those pieces of cloth between the two different woods?
If you can get your hands on some purple heart wood, it would look great with an antler for the handle, I have worked with purple heart wood once, and this is my second time (currently making a handle for a mora blade) using the wood but it is a nice color when the project is done.

Whatever you really fancy. For me to use antler or anything I need to have the PERFECT antler. Its also what you feel comfortable with. Personally, antler is just drilling a hole and shaping the bolster, wood is sculpting out the whole thing.
But what I'm asking is if I don't put the fabric between the pieces of wood or horn will the structure of my knife handle still be strong I just want to know if the fabric pieces are to make it look good or they actually help hold the handle together that's all
Dustin GraveRose the fibre he uses inbetween the wood and antler provide like a buffer zone so that the materials join neatly together. you could say it's just for aesthetics but I believe having a nice tight fit and having no "play" in the handle will make it last much longer. either way you can make a knife with or with out the spacers

Not at all! I try to keep it simple so just plain oil helps, it won't chip or damage over time. In some handles we use Wood Hardener and that creates a Gorgeous gloss compared to oil. Just using what's around you know? Poly Coatings would work like a dream though. I'll Add is to the List of Things To Try! Nice work.. but I think that all the stuff that you put at the front of the antler takes valuable space for the tang to be effective and making it a “safer” knife to use. Beautiful show piece though 👍
I get this question asked often haha. It's oil. Plain Jane Canola oil. It not only brings out the subtle features of the wood grain but also protects the Carbon blade. Make sure to check out the other videos! We also have a page on Facebook, it's called F-Knives Custom Knives and Handles.
You're going to have to find out through some trial and error. But I will say that 1/4" drill bits are a man's best friend when it comes to a lot of this work haha.
He apply some glue to the wood stopper and to the deer horn.. but in the middle of two wood he put some clothes as a expansion material.for temp.change.hand palm protection..

Most these Moras don't come with a Handle Guard, so we tried to keep it simple and authentic. I am working on a new video for a special blade that will have a Guard (Somewhat). Make sure to check out the other videos
Get sum surgicial tubing . It saves on string . Or fat rubber bands . Makes for a firmer securement Did a hell of a Job on that handle . Just seen where I complemented you few years ago lol

I tend to avoid using Metal on many knives. I mostly use woods, since a lot of metal is expensive and it's hard to machine. making a Bass Guard and a Corresponding Slot to fit the blade becomes harder on the whole process of making the knife. Putting Metal on a stacked handle also means you need to have a very clean belt on the grinder because if not, the heat could burn the epoxy (remember epoxy works with a thermal reaction) Feel free to ask more questions!
F-Knives: Custom Blades And Handles just keep the knife cool with water and recess the tang so it’s square, ez-pz better to have a brass guard than leave end grain open, also you should probably clamp those segments together a bit tighter

What is the compound called that that you are using made by 3M adhesive? Awesome job done on the knife.
I live in Africa, so I've got a Gembok horn. It's black, so I'm wondering how it'll turn out.

Nothing but oil to show off the features in the end.

Tis Cotton Canvas.
It's there to add a nice contrasting line between layers and it also provides a filling in case the wood isn't 100% square

Kind of to separate the wood layers and in case the surfaces of the wood are rough, it can fill that.

You can get Mora #1 and #2 knife blanks so you don't have to spent the time loosing them from their birch handles.
