    You need to slack belt sand the handle to finished. Skip all the sand paper, slow speed sanding drums, files, etc. Give it a try, you might like the time savings.

    Think if you make a already beautiful big knife then the handles goes with a rat tale its like total waste of quality the overall durability goes down,whereas full tang are more strong and nice looking when you could see the blade

    What kind of belt sander is that. I have a small bench top model I got at Harbor Freight (Chinese junk, but functional for wood) but I’d like to get something that would work metal as well

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  Year ago

      @bashermax mine is a KMG 2x72. I would suggest looking up Ameribrade or Brodbeck though. They have some amazing grinder packages. There is also a decent one on Vevor's website that is a 2x82 that can be modified very very easily to fit standard 2x72 belts.

    Any reason you didnt fill the back part of the handle with epoxy?

    • @theriversexperience9383
      @theriversexperience9383  2 years ago

      I did fill that part, sanded it, and buffed it. I used CA Glue instead of epoxy. It fills the pith way better than the epoxy does.

      @theriversexperience9383 Ah, thank you. So initial sand to get the scratches in one direction, finish off with the single direction to remove fish-hooks. Thank you for your reply, especially on an old video

    Two points if I may be so bold that were drummed into me as an apprentice (30 years ago)… lower the guide on your bandsaw so it’s as close to the workpiece as possible for accurate cuts and to limit blade damage. And, when leaning on your file, lift it (or lift up pressure) on your back stroke to limit the wear to maintain the tool. It only cuts forward.
    Love your videos. 🥳

      Yes mate sign of a good tradesman looking for the best result

    • @addisonmoncelle5022
      @addisonmoncelle5022 3 years ago

      I completely agree on your first point (lower your bandsaw guide), I personally disagree on your latter point. Both in my personal experience and in actual tests (check Fireball Tool) it appears that back cuts do little to no damage to a file's teeth, and actually do remove some material. In addition, back and forth passes are quicker and easier than lift cuts. Of course, I very well may be wrong in this and always love to learn more.

    • @andrewallason4530
      @andrewallason4530 3 years ago

      I believe it to be true, but it’s an issue with metal files, not wood working. The relative ‘hardness’ of wood and antler should do absolutely nothing to a file, except to assist with clearing the teeth.
