Welcome to Episode 243. This is the short and sweet version of the build series that we just wrapped up.
Be sure and check out my website. I have several knives available on the site and all of them have a video (or several) showing how they were made!

It was awesome talking with you at bladeshow, and seeing all the cool knives you had on you. We both got OHF hammers and you helped me find some tongs. Was a fan now I’m a super fan
Ah i see. Makes perfect sense. Very beautiful knife you built there.
brother. your knives are best .
create more. we are watching
Шикарно. Я себе такой же сделаю.
Complimenti amico, un coltello artistico ma soprattutto unico.
I've all of a sudden never wanted anything more than one of these excellent knives
I have been makein knives for along time
Gorgeous knife good lord! Very awesome!
Thank you!
Absolutely stunning
Absolutely breathtaking ❤
Sometimes the handle makes the knife..excellent
I noticed you were wearing an Ameribrade t-shirt but I didn’t see an Ameribrade grinder. Not judging. Eric is a great guy and I love his grinders. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
Wish I had one but mine is a KMG. Ameribrade supplied my belts though.
Great craftsmanship something to last generations 👏 👌
Thanks for showing
One of your finest!
Thanks Chip!
Doing good, keep it up .
Thank you!
Not many that can do it..
Brother, you are a superb craftsman. The way you shaped the green rectangular shaped piece of wood into a comfortable extension that seamlessly blended into the antler is incredible. 👏👏
Thanks Robert!
Now that is a beautiful knife, great design 👍😁
Thank you!
BEAUTIFUL!
Красавчик. Благодарю. Усть Лабинск
I touched this one too!
Una obra maestra. Lo felicito amigo
Two points if I may be so bold that were drummed into me as an apprentice (30 years ago)… lower the guide on your bandsaw so it’s as close to the workpiece as possible for accurate cuts and to limit blade damage. And, when leaning on your file, lift it (or lift up pressure) on your back stroke to limit the wear to maintain the tool. It only cuts forward.
Love your videos. 🥳
Yes mate sign of a good tradesman looking for the best result
I completely agree on your first point (lower your bandsaw guide), I personally disagree on your latter point. Both in my personal experience and in actual tests (check Fireball Tool) it appears that back cuts do little to no damage to a file's teeth, and actually do remove some material. In addition, back and forth passes are quicker and easier than lift cuts. Of course, I very well may be wrong in this and always love to learn more.
I believe it to be true, but it’s an issue with metal files, not wood working. The relative ‘hardness’ of wood and antler should do absolutely nothing to a file, except to assist with clearing the teeth.
That is one good looking knife.
Thank you Jim!
Muy buen trabajo, me encantan los vídeos sin música, que se escuche el ruido de las herramientas, fantástico.....
Perfect nice work maza aaya
Thank you!
Anh làm dao rất đẹp,Việt Nam say hello 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
Thank you
Beautiful knife. I love the combination of the scales and the Bevel lines.
Thank you!
That's pretty.
Solid work man! looks awesome. Love that clip
Thanks man, I'm really pleased with how this one turned out.
I always love your choice of wood colors and pairings. The greens and browns. 🙂
Thanks Matt!
@@theriversexperience9383 you're welcome 😊
Very nice job..
awesome
Very nice!!!
Always so timely. Just working on my first hidden tang. Thanks for splicing them all together!
Loved the simplicity of the video. Allowed the process to tell it's own story. Down to the detail of checking temp of guard to avoid over heating. Loved it!
Oh and the knife is beautiful!
Thanks!
Nice, colors on the handle different but really makes the stone wash blade pop.
Thank you Rick!
Nice work on the handle
Thank you Travis!
Great skill and craftsmanship. Really cool knife!
Thank you!
Very cool!!!💪
Thank You!
Wonderful tool art a pleasure to watch your work.
Thank you Bill!
Nice job
Thanks!
Nice work as usual. Like your swedge technique. I ground my first swedge today using a jig and gaurd and found symmetry a challenge. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve!
Very nice work!
Thanks a lot!
Fantastic build! 👏
Gorgeous work!
Thanks!
in my country (indoneisa), every knife is made with a hidden tank, and it is so durable
Çok güzel işçilik...👏🙂
Rad build dude
Thanks!
👏👏👏👏
Parabéns
Отличный ножичек!!!🤝🤝🤝
Love the blade! What drill bit are you using for drilling the holes in the handle material?
It's a Dewalt "cobalt" bit.
That looks really nice. What was the material you were shaking it in that made it come out charcoal colored?
That was just a stone washing solution. I etch it and then stone wash it. It has aquarium rocks and WD40 in it.
Knife maker my self....awsome good job. What grit are u using for finish
I bring these up to 600 grit before etching. The handles go up to 600-800 grit then buff.
Nice to watch the whole process in one and the result is so great i like everything on that knife thats a true beauty thank you for showing us that ;-)
What kind of bandsaw blade are you using there? Mine seem to chip teeth a little to easily and then become a pain to cut with.
It's a Bauer from Harbor Freight and I use 14TPI Lennox blades
@@theriversexperience9383 i use the same. Guess i might just be too aggressive with it. The old blades make good damascus material tho so thats and upside.
you drill holes in guard with small drill bits than thickness of the knife right?
Yup, that's correct.
Is that guard material something you forge welded together? Truly amazing knife my man!!!! Gorgeous work!
Yup, it's layerd 15n20 and copper.
When sanding back and forth like that, how do you avoid the fish-hook scratches?
Typically I go one direction on the last 20'ish passes.
@@theriversexperience9383 Ah, thank you. So initial sand to get the scratches in one direction, finish off with the single direction to remove fish-hooks. Thank you for your reply, especially on an old video
Great work, congratulations;
what material did you use for the knife blade?
Thank you! The steel is 1084.
Love this knife! It's grown on me even more. Are you keeping this one or will it be hitting the website?
I haven't decided yet, we will see what happens.
A great knife turned out! Would you like to share a drawing of this model?
You need to slack belt sand the handle to finished. Skip all the sand paper, slow speed sanding drums, files, etc. Give it a try, you might like the time savings.
O great another knife held together with glue. I prefer to silver solder mine together
You do realize that there is a Pin going through the tang and the handle, right? Also, feel free to Email me some pictures of how you Silver Solder your handles on. I'm interested in seeing that. theriversexperience@yahoo.com
What is in your stone wash shaker bottle?
It's aquarium rocks and WD40.
Any reason you didnt fill the back part of the handle with epoxy?
I did fill that part, sanded it, and buffed it. I used CA Glue instead of epoxy. It fills the pith way better than the epoxy does.
Красавчик
Nice looking knife. What’s the steel?
Thank you, this was made out of 1084.
Beautiful knife. What steel did you use? I want to try to make one. Hopefully close to yours.
Thank you David, I used 1084 for this build.
Don't push toward bandsaw with your thumbs
Never file the tang shoulders ,leave rounded if possible, it would be no problem to break that handle off the blade!!!
Where can I buy your products they are very interesting
Everything is on my Website: TheRiversExperience.com
Where did you get those long drill bits?
They have them at Lowes and Home Depot.
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
You forge in a tent ?
I had a tent set up when I was building my larger shop. I had to demo the small one that housed the forge, so that I could make the larger one. The tent was just a temp solution.
@@theriversexperience9383 yeah I feel you. I currently have no roof to house my gear... Tent it is. 😅
Very 😎😎😎 knife, but that thin short tang, its not for me
what is the name of material blade?
1084?
Yes, it was 1084.
Para que lo pones en el hornito después de templarlo
Let me know if you can make me one and if so what would you charge
Hello, what is the name of the first song in your videos?
💪👏🙏
Beautiful knife nice work I guess you decided not to put it up for sale I've looked all week long on the website to see if it was there don't sneak it on there and and get it past me
I still might after I make the leather sheath for it.
@@theriversexperience9383 I'm glad to hear you're not going to put it in Kydex
Simply gorgeous . I enjoyed looking at your art in the making . Thanks .
