Good myth bustor video on keto diet nowadays more prevalent is obesity binge eating or heredtary or sedentary ..so people trying different diet plan with dietrician drs or nuitrinist as a coach in online by virtually ..but practically lots of sideeffects in keto palio etc etc ...initially they found results are excellent but later on many diseases as you said ...so diets includes carbs in average quantity with protein and fatty acids in every meal especially fruits veggies are enriched nuitrition which we must nt exclude ..my practical suggestion is diet limitation as our body needs and complete night dinner early 7pm and morning at 8pm to 9pm like but need regular fitness programme atleast 30 mins morning will gradually reduce kgs and become more energetic need proper medical guidance ...prevent chronic pain. Excellent dr andrea ...keep doing
Thank you Dr. Vignesh for this comment. People want a quick fix to lose weight, but the truth is, there is no secret, but a balanced diet and physical activity. These miracle diets come and go. There are a lot of people profiting from selling books, courses, products, etc.
@@DrAndreaFurlan yes madam you are absolutely right ...many people doing commercially minting with products channels consultation shorterm goal wont be worth and it may revert back with illeffects .yours is evidence based and traditional is always best as you suggested great dr .thank you for your time spending reply ..
Weight loss is all about hormone control. The hormone in control of weight loss is insulin. If your insulin is high, your body will store energy as fat. If your insulin is low, your body will burn your stored fat as fuel. Exercise is helpful, but not required to lose weight. I was bed ridden due to an infected knee revision surgery. I changed my diet to eat just meat, and lost 60 lbs, and came off all my medications. Looking back at 10 years of labs, my HsCRP is the lowest it’s ever been at 0.13 mg/L…meaning there’s no inflammation in my meat fueled body.
I've been on a keto diet on and off for 2 years. The pain in my wrists from arthritis went away within a few weeks of starting keto. Whenever I go off keto and eat grains or sugar the pain returns almost immediately. I also feel much better on keto and my energy level is consistent.
My calorie intake is about 60% from fats. The rest from carbs for 43 years. I don't control arthritic pain. I cured arthritis and CANCER. The only diet more ridiculous than keto. IS CARNIVORE !!!!!
Keto diet cuts my pain down from about an 8 to about a 3! cutting carbs cuts pain for me, and also improves my mood. i think each person is different..
I don't feel identified at all with the "reasons to avoid keto if you have chronic pain". My chronic pain that I had for almost 2 years after becoming severely obese and giving birth, literally went away within the first week/weeks, which is insane. Before keto I literally couldn't walk more than 3 minutes because I got very bad pain in my back, I had trouble sitting on the floor to play with my babyborn at the time. Now after 5-6 months later I'm weighing 23 kg less, my blood pressure went average from 134/83 (I'm in my early 30's) to a beautiful average of 108/69. No more pain, nornalised blood sugars, no more sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes reversed, no more brain fog, no constipation, significantly decreased cardiovascular risk, easy to sustain for ME, eczema "nigricans acanthosis" in my neck completely vanished, and I'm definitely not socially isolated, on the contrary. Most of the things I've mentioned improved dramatically before I even lost the first 5-10 kg (I still have to lose 25-30 kg to be considered normal weight)
You forgot to tell us that cancer cells feed on sugar and carbohydrates . So to avoid cancer cut carbohydrates and sugar. I think since I am not a rat and being on Keto feeding, I have no more chronic inflammation . I am 64 years old. Sorry doctor for me it is Keto for life. You should try it instead of testing mice.
Please check with your doctor if you don't have any vitamin or mineral deficiency. People who do this diet need very close nutritional supervision if they try this diet for more than 3 months.
You do not need to cut carbs out sugar yes for lots of reasons. I think in the long run you may end up deficit on plenty of things you need.Food can be medicine but Keto’s is a miserable existence. Different strokes for different folk!
@@DrAndreaFurlan Thanks but I do not. All is good. Very good. . Yes the electrolyte are very important and more so for Keto feeding.I take kelp capsule for sodium and iodine I also take Sodiun ,potassium, magnesium ,zinc ,D3, K2 ,B complex 50 and ester C supplements . I eat one vegetable (keto friendly) or 2 daily with the main meal.I have no more chronic inflammation. I also do not drink alcool, I add heavy cream in my coffee 4 or 5 a day. . My digestion is very good. My BP is 120/80 pulse 61 average. Oxygen is 98. My heart sinus rhythm is normal on my Kardia mobile EKG.. I take no medication and my urine is normal and my daily stool is very normal. No constipation and no diarrhea. I eat starting at noon and at supper time. I am 6 foot tail and maintain the weight of 80 -81 kilos. I just fell great. Do not worry doctor I am looking after myself. Oh by the way besides sugar and high carbohydrates to avoid, the sky is the limit for feeding . Thank you for your response and thank you for your videos on YT. Ps: I was a Vegan for 25 years and in pain and always hungry. My fat liver pushed me to ketogenic feeding and it is the best thing that happened for me.
Good job! Don’t listen to doctors like these who are brainwashed in their schools and fake pharmaceutical funded “research studies”. They will tell you to take pills first thing before helping remove the root cause of the disease
I have been Keto for 4 years and have lost 97 lbs. I also do intermittent fasting. Four years ago I had NAFLD, high blood pressure, acid reflux, metabolic syndrome including being diagnosed with T2 diabetes. I was about to be put on several medications when I found the ketogenic way of eating. I also eliminated all of the toxic, industrial seed oils. I am no longer T2 diabetic, NAFLD is reversed as well as my BP became normal. I can fit in normal clothes, I feel so much better. I was at the point I couldn’t climb stairs without holding onto the railing and having to pause to catch my breath, now I can walk up the middle of the staircase with ease. If I have to go to a social event, I either eat prior or if it’s really important I will forgo keto for that event but take it easy. Family & friends understand my way of eating -I don’t expect any special accommodations, if I want to have a treat I can make any one of thousands of low-carb items. I can’t picture going back to the cycle of sugar & carb addiction. I had C-19 last Oct (along with a simultaneous diagnosis of Lyme Disease) and while I had a few days of being down for the count I never required medical treatment other than the Doxycycline for the Lyme & I had to wait 10 days before I could been seen for that diagnosis. I can’t help but think the outcome would have been MUCH worse if I’d been in the condition I was in 3.5 yrs earlier. I am 62, 4’10”, a woman and feel better now than I did when I was 40
@@DrAndreaFurlan my pleasure! Keto may not be for everyone, but it has been a life-changer for me. Keep up the good work, people need to advocate for their own health, the more information they have the better they can participate in their healthcare. Medical care these days is mainly prescribing pills instead of getting to the root cause of the problem. Big Food, Big Medicine and Big Pharma (and I’ll add in Big Government with their “Food Pyramid”) have done so much damage to our health, but then, there’s no profit in healthy people!
Wonderful! I was introduced to the Keto way of eating by "THE DIET DOCTOR" Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt. Dr. Jason Fung also & have lost 50lbs. stabilized my blood sugar, no more cravings & total, TOTAL control of my weight. I am gaining muscle mass & am happy. Dr. Sten Eckberg explains well about Keto here on RUclips & Autophagy which can heal & cure almost anything. I greatly admire Dr. Furlan & feel sad that there is misinformation in this video. She hasn't done her homework! ( Still using Canola Oil?!!)
Thank you for this video! This is very interesting to me. I was having chronic debilitating pain due to CRPS and fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. A couple years ago I was told in prayer not to eat for 2 weeks. After the 8th day of not eating my pain went away. I mean it was totally gone -I could run doubles up stairs. I began to study what happens when a person stops eating and I learned the first thing that happens is all the glucose stores are used up. I started to study that, and carbohydrates in general, and learned that, unlike the protein and fat macronutrients, the carbohydrate macronutrient is not essential to our life. The only system in the body that it is known to directly feed is the sympathetic nervous system, that is to say, the fight or flight response when instant energy is needed. Although it's understood that vitamins and minerals that are in the carbohydrate food, or that are put in through our processing of those foods to make them more nutritious, are essential to our life, the carbohydrate itself is not. Those calories and energy can be obtained through fats and proteins alone. You made a good point in saying there is a very steep learning curve to becoming adept at keeping a nutritionally sound keto diet. And in a nutritional keto diet, as defined by Ohio State University, one tries to get most of the requirements through foods and not supplements. That's where the very steep learning curve comes in. In the united states, outside of Ohio State University, I've not found a nutritionist or dietitian who is adept at helping a person achieve the goal of living a pain free life on a nutritionally sound keto diet. They are not trained about that in school, and their licensing does not protect them from going against what they were trained. So although I find your presentation spot on in many respects, it seems there is a group of chronic pain people who do better and can lead relatively pain free or completely pain-free lives on a nutritionally sound keto diet. I'm not the only one, as I have found others on RUclips and in online blogs. Perhaps the type of CRPS that I have is more a problem with glucose metabolism than anything else. Also, strawberries raspberries and blueberries are low carbohydrate and can be eaten in moderation on this diet. And also most vegetables can be eaten in their normal portions except root vegetables have to be more regulated because they are high in carbohydrates.
After 3 months of Keto our weight went from upper-normal BMI to low-normal BMI. Brain fog is gone, mood improved, chronic pain lessened & more mobile. Maybe bcuz we're Scandinavian?
Almost forgot, Keto autophagy speeds skin healing from daily passionate kitty's love bites. 2 tablespoons of wheat germ on yogurt, slaw, carrots, spinach, onions & celery with almond butter doesn't deter the Keto effect for us. Just lucky?
Dr. Furlan! Our anecdotal testimony is UNreliable ... we just realized we started Green Tea/Curcumin/Resveratrol (Purity Products) when we went Keto! We're not a controlled observation at all!
I have fibromyalgia and have been on the keto diet with intermittent fasting for a year. I lost 13 k early on and have kept it off. I do have one fruit a day and take supplements. This diet was a blessing for me as before this I just could not lose my weight. I never could eat gluten or lactose so that was not a problem For me.
My pain levels are much lower while following keto. Mine stem mainly from osteoarthritis. This is the third year following this way of eating. My brain is sharper, I have more energy to exercise daily, and my mood is uplifted. Pre keto, my pcp wanted me to start statins for high cholesterol. Now, my cholesterol levels have fallen into a good range.
Please check with your doctor if you are not at risk of vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Doing this diet for too long require a close nutritional supervision.
There is growing evidence that the ketogenic diet (KD) is anti-inflammatory. This diet was introduced as an anticonvulsant treatment for drug-refractory epilepsy, and has very low carbohydrate content as a means to induce a metabolic state similar to fasting but without caloric restriction. For optimal effects of the keto diet, you should combine it with intermittent fasting (16 hours), calisthenics, adequate sleep, and stress management. The keto diet is also not as expensive as you might think. You just eat as usual by removing all flour rice, pasta and everything that tastes sweet.
I initially rejected the ketogenic diet for my daughter who was autistic and suffered from seizures not controlled by medication. I revisited the idea when she became an adult. I even thought about going on this diet myself but was vehemently warned against it by my nutritionist (I was being treated for diabetes at that time). Later in life, I decided to start eating to promote health. I put myself on a natural food, low-carb, high-healthy fat diet. I avoid eating restaurant food or buying anything packaged, processed, or with more than 2 or 3 ingredients on the label. I had already been a vegetarian for several years and continue to not eat meat. However, I do eat fish, eggs and cheese. I also eat lentils and tempeh (fermented soybeans) and tons of vegetables. This is not exactly a ketogenic diet but it has greatly improved my health. I am 68 years old and take no meds of any kind AND I've lost 100 pounds. I should add that one person who I followed on RUclips recommended eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper. I began following that plan and it naturally led me into intermittent fasting. Now I generally am satisfied with one or two meals a day. There is no hunger involved here. I eat when I'm hungry. Not exactly ketogenic. I probably go into ketosis less often than someone on a strictly keto diet but this works for me.
That is awesome! Excellent way to do it. And I might mention how vital it is to your optimal metabolic health to exercise daily ... cardio AND Resistance training 💪
Let's review. If I stay on Keto, I can eliminate in$ulin and all the miserable effects of diabete$. On Keto, I can lose all the weight causing foot, knee, hip pain and related surgeries, without being the least bit hungry. But, this involves sacrifice and discipline. Oh, and there's not enough long term studies to prove these benefits. I would suggest digging a little deeper if you really want to get healthy. I don't think the physicians who depend on your insurance dollars, are particularly interested in getting you off their med$ and perpetual visit$.
Let me add from MY ORIGINAL post one day ago.... that I highly recommend the KETO diet. I had a lot of those in my family who back in the early part of the 1900's who lived to be very old. 1. My grandfathers sister was 104...who usually ate only one meal a day...I saw her last, when I got drafted for Vietnam. 2. Most of my older father's side ..were rural farmers in the south. There primary meat was home grown pork and chicken, and they cooked with rendered pork fat....They did not eat much wheat, but mostly maize for corn bread, They grew all their vegetables, and they grew flu-cured tobacco as a cash crop. 3. In the south they could grow some fruit for a short season like native muscadines, paw paw, and persimmons.....apples and peaches.....and they canned some. 4. They grew cane and in the fall made molasses....which is rich in many minerals especially iron.....In fact I have molasses that I ate that was 20 YEARS old. MY POINT???..Many of these folks lived to be near 100....plus 2 who were over 100...my great aunt 104, and before her another women 110.. They all ate like KETO....very little fruit....very little tropical like lemons.....no white sugar..no eating after 4 or 5 pm .....pork fat daily..homemade butter daily.. but most of all....rarely did they eat 3 meals a day...they usually ate one big meal after 1 or 2 o'clock. NOW....My generation, born after 1945 -1950...have all the SAME problems....over weight, heart problems, diabetes. My wife's family from the deep south has this IDENTICAL PROBLEMS....In fact her OLDER family members born prior to the 1930's lived longer than mine....because they had the same habits. How can anybody think that drinking orange juice EVERY day...which has the same carbs as a SOFT DRINK is healthy? Do you believe that SEED oils are better than olive or avocoda or coconut oil??? Do you not know that ALL corn oils or corn itself is genetically modified and is NOT like the original indian maize. ALL white sugar has no nutrition, like black strap molasses(but it also has to many carbs ) All modern grains like wheat and oats are overloaded with carbs also. And again....fruit should be eaten sparingly....because it does not produce a crop YEAR ROUND. The ONLY FOOD that is NATURALLY AVAILABLE ...every day is......MEAT.
Please check with your doctor if you don't have any vitamin or mineral deficiency. People who do this diet need very close nutritional supervision if they try this diet for more than 3 months.
Good evening sister Dr, I followed your Anti-inflammatory reduce pain with with restricted diet ( no smokingand drinking ) I lost weight 10kg, from 72kg to 62kg in 30 day. The questions you listed are exactly what I would have asked. Your answers are well articulated and very helpful in clearing up any confusion I may have had. Thank You!
Thank you for this video. I followed the Keto diet for over a year but started having doubts about it and began allowing myself to have fruits this last summer, partly because I hated wasting the fruit from our fruit trees last year…but I wondered how good or bad the diet was for me. So thank you for clarifying these facts for me. I was hoping it would lessen my chronic back pain but it didn’t. I will try for a more balanced diet approach, closer to a plant based diet and hope it will help. Thank you again.

Dr. ... i had followed keto for short time and decided to create my own diet. What I agree with you is keto is not good. But some disagreements. Fruits are very expensive not cheap. There are cheap keto diets. There is calorie restrictions in keto and a lot of fasting. Foods like rice wheat past ... are the source all my excessive weight. Keto is friendly with cheap vegitables like salads and soure craught. For most americans where I live keto is cheaper and balanced diet is very expenive. We all know sugary diets are the cheapest and fruits are the most expensive. I lost 40 pound in 6 month and I need 10 more to go which is the hardest.
So your main issues you see are (in random order): 1) socialisation (who cares, if everyone is eating unhealthily, I don't want to do the same just to fit in); 2) inflammatory excess of omega 6s (which are mostly in processed foods and seed oils - which we should all avoid) and 3) lack of fiber? But - as you just said - low carb vegetables are all included in the keto diet (and I would certainly recommend eating lots of them in any diet, within bowel tolerance). And vegetables have a lot of fibre... One could potentially do a vegetarian keto diet (or lower carb than SAD diet) with optional small amounts of fish/meat but definitely with lots of veggies (with extra omega 3s) and personally I cannot see a problem with that. However, everyone has different responses to foods, so what is ok for a person may not be ok for another! Overeating can also be due to fluctuating blood sugar levels and hormonal issues (e.g. teenage years, menopause).
@@DrAndreaFurlan is there any real proof of that? High levels of glucosa and insulin ate really inflammatory, that would give you pain. And also you are not having much fat, just the amount you need.
Have you heard about Dr.Peterson and his daughter's struggle. Many people have been on a keto diet for years and look younger, feel better. Sugar (and carbs) is very addictive , is bad for people and should be removed from the market. If you stay away from processed meats you'll do better on keto
I've been trying to do the keto diet for 2 or 3 years now . But I'm eating ' too much ' fruitr and root vegetables. I also eat gluten free crackers I make myself, and meat and all the other forms of protein , nuts . I was thinking it ought to be stricter , but perhaps not . I was 17 stone before I had kidney stones, then I lost 3 stones. Now I'm about 12 and 1/2 stones and would like to lose more . Down to 11 stones. Exercise is difficult for me because of fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis . I take cbd oil every day so I can do a bit . Maybe I'm doing the best I can , given what you say and my circumstances. Thank-you. K
Stop “trying” keto, and fully do it. In fact try carnivore for 90 days and I’d bet you will feel much better. There are no essential carbs. Worked for me, just saying
Thank you for your great informative videos..my husband and I at 60 are back down to our ideal weight and fit after 18 months on low carb diet..not worried about ketosis but eat around 75 to q 100 carbs a day...true low carb keto is very low in omega 6..as all processed plant oils and foods are eliminated.. our diet consists of a lot more omega 3 from fatty fish..eggs..flaxseed...all arthritic pain in my feet is gone...bloodwork is great and dr.is impressed....more studies I believe need to be done on a true keto carb whole food healthy diet..too many people like us are experiencing many health benefits including pain relief

When you talk about a high fat diet causing pain in animals, it looks like you are referring to vegetable oils (and probably specific low quality vegetable oils such as canola oil). This is not actually part of a keto diet (not the ones I have seen). In keto, it is specifically recommended to be generous with high quality fats such as butter, ghee, coconut oil, and olive oil. And omega 3 oils too, in fatty fish, grass-fed animal fats, eggs. These oils are not inflammatory. I actually thought you might be going to talk about the role of carbohydrate in boosting serotonin levels, and serotonin appears to play a role in reducing pain (but it's hard to find information about this, just suggestions such as the prescription of serotonin boosting anti-depressant meds such as amitryptyline). You don't need a lot of carbs to do this, just go with low carb rather than very low carb, a less fanatical version. But everyone is different, and people need to find out what works best for themselves.
Reduce eating rice and wheat products which include more calories, eat as a balanced diet as per requirement. Do not eat all the time, reduce dinner, and much better stop eating after 7PM.Drink water regularly with regular intervals.
Would taking healthy fats offset the issues you raise with bad fats? I cycle on and off keto, with a Mediterranean diet most of the time. A short term keto diet with healthy fats can be very beneficial. Longer term need to be mindful of insulin resistance
Thank you so much for this informative video. I’ve been curious about the keto diet and how it works. I have chronic neck/shoulder pain, TMJ and tinnitus. I eat healthy and everything in moderation. I exercise daily and it helps.

I was raised in an obese family and overweight from an early age. I've studied nutrition and weight loss over the past 25 years to try to maintain a healthy weight. I've always been alarmed by the Advocates of the keto diet, it's so unreasonably strict for the common person and staying in ketosis seems like it would be very challenging and limiting nutritionally. I've had a bad gut feeling about it. Instead I eat a high-protein and good fat low-carb diet with great success with weight loss and maintaining weight. Never had to be in ketosis to do that. The main fruits I eat successfully are berries of all types, apples, and grapefruit. Some fruits are unfortunately too high in sugar and should be eating only in moderation, unless you don't have a weight problem
You need to do research on seed oils(peanut oil....canola oil, which is actually rapeseed, and canola is a made up term..which is really Canada oil) Do you know we started eating seed oil after WW1, when they ran out of the need for cotten seed oil, used to lubricate trucks, so they sold it as a food oil.....Corn oil...made from corn, which is not the original indian maize....but genetically modified and all corn is sprayed with glyphosate( roundup)..
Omega 3 is anti-inflammatory. Omega 6 is pro-inflammatory Red meat has more omega 6 than 3 Watch my omega 3 video ruclips.net/video/bzNe4t3TJnU/видео.html
Objection!!!! It is cheap to be on Keto, because you end to eat once a day - or 1,5 day!! Got Willie-Ekbom Syndrom in my legs 5. year now - and been on Keto 3 years. Also arthitis in ankels. Has not seen corellation between pain and food so far. Keto has helped me to get rid of stomach pain because I think most because of bread and potatos.... So I continue on diet....
Please check with your doctor if you don't have any vitamin or mineral deficiency. People who do this diet need very close nutritional supervision if they try this diet for more than 3 months.
Hi, I'm tried a low carb diet but not all the way to Keto. I wanted to try to get control of my blood sugars. I am insulin resistant and struggle to keep my sugars down on other diets. For me it worked for the first 4 months but then the sugars returned to the level they like to sit at (8mmol) and now the weight I lost is creeping back too.
Hello Dr Andrea Furlan, Wow what a transformation! You look stunning. Was it the result of keto diet that made you so slim and youthful. I should try it when I am ready. Thank you Dr Andrea Furlan.
Excellent production value in this video and much of the information is incorrect. 10,000's have used #KETO to greatly lessen chronic pain! Research supports this...
Dr Furlan-- thank you so much for this video! You know I have struggle my entire life with obesity as well as Fibromyalgia-- and while a low fat diet was always recommended for weight management, I have NEVER ONCE been told that a high fat diet could CAUSE more pain!!!! I really cannot believe the lack of information I have had, despite me spending so much of my life and time trying to research resources and possibilities to treat my pain. Your videos are. such a gift for us, my dear.
It's the source of fat not the amount that causes pain. At least 50 to 60% of calories should come from fats. The remainder from carbs. And again the source of carbs is very important.
I found the truth by listening to healthy people and ignoring unhealthy people. At 75 my health is as close to perfect as it can get. No refined food No dairy except butter No red meat and very little other animal protein. Eat a wide variety of whole plant foods. Preferably organic or unsprayed. Avoid to much high cellulose food.
I totally agree with you about this my doctor wanted me to go on the keto diet. There's other ways to lose weight in a healthy way. Stay off fried foods stay off sweets bake your foods .helped me to lose weight drastically..
To do a good keto you gotta make sure you are getting all the nutrients, if you don't have fruits that doesn't mean you are not getting all the nutrients.
@@DrAndreaFurlan it seems that a lot of people are able to, when the health issues are interfering with their life people can make big changes for good, keto community is growing a lot online. Also why did you mention that the diet can cause social isolation? Would you say the same to a diabetic that needs to avoid sugar? I mean in every social encounter there are sugary foods... I am going to start keto myself because I have chronic pain in my eyes and head diagnosed as a "migraine" (seems that is not but whatever) and definitely people have reported migraines disappeared on keto diet. Also want to point out that on keto you are supposed to eat enough omegas3 to balance the Omega 6.

Thanks Dr Andrea for explaining clearly what a keto diet is all about. It doesn't sound like a very healthy diet. It's extreme. It lacks balance and basic food cop on!! As you said the majority of people could not even afford it. There are a large variety of foods eg vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, eggs and fish that are widely available and affordable and alot more healthier. Thus enabling us achieve a healthy diet. Thanks for yet another very informative video
THIS BULL CRAP!!!... Why don't people do research??? I actual got on keto and DID NOT KNOW IT!!!!. I was taking 5 prescriptions for a very mild heart attack ten years ago....My eating habits were still bad..I was eating whole wheat bread, rice, all kinds of beans, ALL kinds of fruit(I grow apples, peaches, grapes, vegetables, etc.)...and I love ice cream, but I quit all sodas, over 40 years ago.....i HAD A VERY minor stroke, 3 years ago..even though I was on blood thinners and lipitor......I then decided to change my diet....I quit ALL rice..lentils...corn...wheat...beans...dairy..PERIOD!!... I went from 266 pounds to 204 pounds in TWO months(by the way I am 75 y/o).........I thought I had cancer, even though I felt better.....I looked on you tube, to find out IF WHAT I DID EAT and the way ate, was the problem....That is when I discovered, I was doing Keto...Let me enumerate the results of MY KETO DIET. 1. I can RUN NOW!!! WHY?.......I could not run for over 30 years, because of my ARMY injuries during the Vietnam War......One of my ankles had damage, but after 3 years of KETO, I can run. 2. My blood pressure has come way down...in fact I was dizzy and my pharmacist told me to keep a journal of my systolic and distolic and inform my doctor .....I told my heart doctor and he said not to take my evening dose of blood pressure med. 3. I have an older child with a weight problem ...and she lost over 60 lbs and her doctor was PLEASED(..I did not tell him why, but he was glad). 4. My wife could not believe that my beard has gone from full grey to over 80% black and my hair is about 40% darker also... I could go on and on about the benefits of keto, but it doesn't matter....because the pharmaceutical industry and MOST DOCTORS..will lose money....but it has worked for me. ONE QUESTION....How can eating FRUIT...365 DAYS.....when it is only harvested for a few weeks a year.....My blueberries are available for TWO WEEKS A YEAR....my peaches only THREE WEEKS A YEAR in season...same as apples.....my grapes ...between 10 varieties...only ONE MONTH...Eating fruits out of season..over loads your carbs.... I have studied KETO nearly 3 years....I eat olive oil and other NON-SEED OILS...and I feel better than I have in over 30 YEARS......Best of all???..I do not need prescription drugs any more .
I did keto for 17 months. I've had life-lomg psoriasis, as well as chronic pain for 7 yrs. On keto, my psoriasis got worse, and I had digestion problems after 12 months. I can't say it helped my chronic pain either. Obviously, this diet isn't good for my situation.
There are dirty keto and clean keto. So not sure what keto diet was used in these studies? Watch out for food intolerance, eat unprocessed food that contains healthy fat and green vegetables are universally good tips.
And speaking to the expense, because I am more often than not OMAD (one meal a day) , I don’t need to eat 3 times a day which saves in both the $ and time areas.
@@DrAndreaFurlan haha, I can afford it but choose not to, I do intermittent fasting, I was using that as an example of how keto is certainly affordable ☺️
Naturally humans begin life on keto diet since infancy since baby converts Brest milk to ketones, I can smell that “keto breath” in my breastfed babies breaths, it’s cute and reminds me they’re on proper human diet. That said, I believe in this thing Michaela Peterson calls Lion Diet but I don’t believe in artificially pushing percentages of macro ratios. Also today we have personalized genetic testing services, I did GenoPalate and surprisingly it said I’m best to be on high carb diet, giving 125 optimal foods for compatible with my saliva. That said, I’ve been through multiple lifestyle changes trying to fix my conditions but conclusion is, some things can’t be fixed with diet, when there’s epigenetic and genetic causes to a persons condition, diet is simply not the answer.
Keto requires ppl to learn a bit about how the liver metabolizes carbs, fats (omega 3 vs 6), and proteins. Best to learn keto from a (holistic) doctor; Dr. Sten Ekberg's videos teach organized physiological principles.
Hi Clodia, yes, it is very unbalanced. And worst, there is a big industry behind all of this hype about Keto. The market in the US was $10.1 billion in 2020.
It annoys me when they mention inflammation with fibromyalgia or chronic pain. . I have no inflammation. Nothing like a smart Dr who doesn't have fibro or chronic pain but insists on reading shit and vomiting it out to sufferers. Fibromyalgia / chronic pain is a disfunctional autonomic nervous system , that was either shocked or over stressed over time. Placing the nervous into a permanent danger mode. Anything perceived as a threat consciously or unconsciously can trigger the already sensitized ,heightened nervous system into overdrive hence a nasty flare. . Insulin spikes are just the type of unconscious triggers mention here. Cortisol spikes, another one , the stress hormone can trigger flares. Ever felt hungry then slightly aggitatted and your pain goes up ? . That's your limbic system fight mode kicking in to hunt food and releasing cortisol to get you moving. I've just started keto today to lower insulin and manage hunger . I'm actually quiet confident of good results !. The real magic should happen when the roll over effect of safety seeps into the nervous system .
Qui in Italia un proverbio dice: "NN TUTTO MA DI TUTTO" cioè bisogna mangiare un po' di tutto nelle giuste quantità senza mai esagerare😉. Cari saluti 🤗🙋🏼🥰
Hi Maria Teresa, maybe that is why the longevity in Italy is extremely high. "NOT EVERYTHING BUT EVERYTHING" that is, you have to eat a little of everything in the right quantities without ever exaggerating
Thank you for watching the video and writing this comment. Please share this video with your friends. I have lots of videos about chronic pain on my channel ruclips.net/user/DrAndreaFurlan And don't forget to turn on the notifications 🔔
Can you share more information? Did keto make your pain worse? I have chronic back pain and am on keto desperate to lose 20 more lbs to get to normal bmi.
I'm 68 and have osteoporosis. I have read in a few articles, that the Keto diet can cause more than normal bone loss, according to studies. I have not heard any Keto advocates mention the possible vitamin deficiencies and other problems it can cause.
That is the problem. I don't think eating supplements is healthy. A person should be able to get all nutrients they need if they eat a balanced and healthy diet.
This is Nonsense. Keto diet has NOTHING to do with Ketoacidosis. The name Keto comes from Ketogenesis. If you call yourself a doctor, you should know the difference. The fact that you don’t know the difference, discredits everything you have to say on the subject.
Hi Rod, Thank you for this comment. It gives me the opportunity to show even more dangers of the Keto Diet. Have you seen some case reports? This is one example “Starvation Ketoacidosis due to the Ketogenic Diet and Prolonged Fasting - A Possibly Dangerous Diet Trend” www.amjcaserep.com/abstract/index/idArt/917226
@@DrAndreaFurlan that is not a danger of the Ketogenic diet. There is One individual and nothing is said about how his T2D was being controlled. Diet or insulin? The individual did prolonged fasting, which has nothing to do with the Keto diet. Prolonged fasting requires electrolyte replacement. It is not possible to make any conclusions from whatever this “test” was. Prolonged fasting requires the replacement of sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Angus Barbieri, a Scottish man, fasted from June 1965 to July 1966 for a total of 382 days in a row. He accomplished this by supplementing sodium, potassium and magnesium.
This video is not accurate and is misleading. I think you need to do more research, Doctor. Ketoacidosis is NOT when your body is using fat for fuel. Ketoacidosis is a dangerous complication in diabetics when there is a lack of insulin that is needed to get the glucose into cell membranes. KETOSIS is when your body is using ketones for fuel. Ketosis is healthy and a natural state for humans to be in. Whenever your body needs glucose, your own liver can make it for you. Also, corn is NOT a vegetable, it is a grain, and grains cause pain and inflammation, not to mention digestive upset. Olives are a fruit, and you didn't mention them. A ketogenic diet helps ALL ages with seizures. Keto is sustainable and healthy. It helps to optimize weight, reduces anxiety, helps with many mental issues, helps reduce or ELIMINATE chronic pain, among a plethora of other conditions. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1999. I have tried all of the meds recommended from my different doctors over the years. It wasn't until I got off ALL meds and switched to keto did my pain go away COMPLETELY. It also helped my autism, anxiety, weight, skin, hair, nails, digestion, liver disease, immunity, neuropathy, tics, sleep, eyesight, it REVERSED my pre-diabetes, etc., etc., etc. If a person is eating a proper ketogenic diet, then there is a low occurrence of Omega-6 and a high occurrence of Omega-3. EVERY HUMAN BEING ON THE PLANET CAN BENEFIT FROM A KETOGENIC DIET! HEALTHY FATS DO NOT CAUSE PAIN! FIBER IS NON-ESSENTIAL! CARBOHYDRATES ARE NON-ESSENTIAL! KETO IS A VERY LOW INFLAMMATORY DIET! IT IS AN INEXPENSIVE DIET IF IT IS DONE RIGHT! I HAVE BEEN ON KETO FOR 5 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! And there are thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands more like me...
This is true for me . I've had fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue for over a decade. I've tried keto twice and both times ,yes I lost weight but my pain and insomnia got A LOT WORSE and severely affected my mental health. I've recently stopped keto after becoming ill last month, following a secondary infection which landed me in hospital. My blood work showed my liver and spleen were damaged from chronic use of Ibuprofen whilst on keto diet ( unable to sleep due to increased pain/inflammation and the infections) anaemic and my blood cholesterol was just over the high end of normal range....this was on 3 months of keto. As soon as I increased my carb intake, my pain diminished instantly and my sleep is back to what it was prior. Does not work for me and is not sustainable. I paid with my health for weight loss, which isn't worth it. Balanced diet from now on for me.
I do not agree with Keto. I perfer wholesome, balance and a healthy diet. Thanks for sharing this. Keep it up. You will face people who are 'swear' by this diet though 😅
Ketoacidosis has nothing to do with the Keto diet. Ketoacidosis is a totally DIFFERENT AFFAIR. INCORRECT. I eat Keto & start all meals with a HUGE SALAD. Blueberries, Strawberries, Melons , Kiwis, Avocados , my health has never been better & I do Intermittant Fasting & Fasting. Autofagy is a good way to eliminate inflammation. Inflammation causes pain, less inflammation less pain. I eat good fats. About 60% fat & about 8grms of protein for every kilo of body weight.
Many people have reduced pain with a keto diet. Anyone with chronic pain should at least try it. Especially if nothing else is working. I hope this doctor doesn't tell her patient to avoid keto and at the same time prescribes pain killers.
There is so much misinformation in here. Firstly, inflammation. Meat does NOT cause inflammation. High insulin levels do, along with sugar, grains and vegetable oils. I have been eating just meat for almost 3 years now, and I’m in the best health since my teens. For someone who’s just eating meat, my HsCRP should be high, but it’s 0.13 mg/L. High cholesterol by itself does not cause CVD. Low HDL and high triglycerides puts you at high risk of CVD. Inflammation causes heart disease. The cholesterol in the arteries is there after there is damage caused by inflammation. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Stop eating foods that cause inflammation, and arthritis goes away. The only time I’ve been deficient, was when I was 100% plant based. Once I stopped eating plants, I lost 60 lbs and came off ALL my medications…medications my doctor told me I’d have to take for the rest of my life. No medications or supplements for 2 years now. My cholesterol is 355, LDL is 270, and my cardiologist isn’t concerned. Because my HDL is 68, and my triglycerides are 85. My LDL is type A, meaning I’m at the lowest risk of getting heart disease. Before giving up plant foods, I had 11 unnecessary surgeries due to arthritis. Had I changed my diet to eliminate plant foods, vegetable/seed oils, sugar, grains, I could have avoided 11 surgeries, and I wouldn’t now be disabled because of the surgeries.
I'm a dietitian with a history of chronic pain and I agree with everything you said. Sad about the avacado being so high in omega 6, but paired with a fatty fish, might make a nice snack and balance the omega fats. Great video! 👍
Wrong. Keto is actually the best for people with pain, it takes away inflammation . Also you have no idea what Keto is, it doenst cause ketoacidosis. That is a separate phenomenon. Please don’t talk about things you have no idea , stick to your niche instead of spreading wrong information
This has not been my understanding or experience of eating on a healthy keto diet. Some of your points seem mired in standard medical education blinders. Mostly you have only given the cons without due consideration of the benefits. Also the impact of hormones on appetite is absent while still implying patient emotional and psychological issues are the source of obesity. I think that you can do better than this video bite.
Classic rubbish generic advice
I've been on a keto diet on and off for 2 years. The pain in my wrists from arthritis went away within a few weeks of starting keto. Whenever I go off keto and eat grains or sugar the pain returns almost immediately. I also feel much better on keto and my energy level is consistent.
Thank you for sharing that Jim.
My calorie intake is about 60% from fats. The rest from carbs for 43 years.
I don't control arthritic pain. I cured arthritis and CANCER.
The only diet more ridiculous than keto. IS CARNIVORE !!!!!
I got rid of all inflammation and cancer 43 years ago.
I eliminated meat and dairy protein.
NOT CARBS !
Keto diet cuts my pain down from about an 8 to about a 3! cutting carbs cuts pain for me, and also improves my mood. i think each person is different..
Yes, each person is different.
I also notice that as soon as I eat carbs, my pains come back...
I am 62, 4’10”, a woman and feel better now than I did when I was 40
Thanks for sharing - in detail- your amazing results! It’s so encouraging for those of us who need motivation to remain consistent.
Thank you for sharing that.
@@kfgrich you are welcome, hang in there! 👍🏻
Thank you Susan for sharing that.
Hi Susan, did Keto helped you with painful trigger points in fibromyalgia?
Thank you for sharing your experience Shoshana.
Good for you! I have been keto for 4 years and feel so much better
Please check with your doctor if you are not at risk of vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Doing this diet for too long require a close nutritional supervision.
@@DrAndreaFurlan Have you looked at the nutritional breakdown in beef? If you had you wouldn't be speaking such nonsense.
It doesn't mean that this diet is healty and without any serious consequences.
I probably go into ketosis less often than someone on a strictly keto diet but this works for me.
you have done well
Thank you for sharing.
There primary meat was home grown pork and chicken, and they cooked with rendered
pork fat....They did not eat much wheat, but mostly maize for corn bread, They grew all their vegetables, and they grew flu-cured tobacco as a cash crop.
My wife's family from the deep south has this IDENTICAL PROBLEMS....In fact her OLDER family members born prior to the 1930's lived longer than
mine....because they had the same habits.
ALL white sugar has no nutrition, like black strap molasses(but it also has to many carbs )
All modern grains like wheat and oats are overloaded with carbs also.
I don't know what kind of DOCTOR she is, must be a chiropractor!!

Dr. ... i had followed keto for short time and decided to create my own diet.

The number of people in fibromyalgia groups on FB saying they are doing keto or want to- lots!
Hi Pippa, please post this video on those FB groups.
What about type 2 diabetes and the ketogenic diet. As well, I have osteoarthritis in my hips
Again, thank you so much! 💗
You are so welcome!
So your main issues you see are (in random order):
1) socialisation (who cares, if everyone is eating unhealthily, I don't want to do the same just to fit in);
2) inflammatory excess of omega 6s (which are mostly in processed foods and seed oils - which we should all avoid) and
3) lack of fiber?
The main issue is that high-fat diet may cause more pain.
@@DrAndreaFurlan is there any real proof of that? High levels of glucosa and insulin ate really inflammatory, that would give you pain. And also you are not having much fat, just the amount you need.
Many thanks for all the information you provide. 🙏 🥰
You are welcome Hilary.

Thank-you. K
You won't make 5 years if you don't scrap that keto diet !
I eat carbs with every meal. Very health at 75.
A high protein diet. Especially dairy and red meat are the main contributors to all arthritic conditions.
Stop “trying” keto, and fully do it. In fact try carnivore for 90 days and I’d bet you will feel much better. There are no essential carbs. Worked for me, just saying
Also, Intermittent fasting

That sounds good to me.
Would taking healthy fats offset the issues you raise with bad fats? I cycle on and off keto, with a Mediterranean diet most of the time. A short term keto diet with healthy fats can be very beneficial. Longer term need to be mindful of insulin resistance
Hi Matt, it sounds like this is a good option.

You need to do research on seed oils(peanut oil....canola oil, which is actually rapeseed, and canola is a made up term..which is really Canada oil)
Do you know we started eating seed oil after WW1, when they ran out of the need for cotten seed oil, used to lubricate trucks, so they sold it as
a food oil.....Corn oil...made from corn, which is not the original indian maize....but genetically modified and all corn is sprayed with glyphosate( roundup)..
Hi Pajama Mama, I agree with you.
@@ericprice4561 yes, true

why do you assume a keto diet has more omega 3 than 6? this is not true if you choose animal fats as opposed to seed oils.
Omega 3 is anti-inflammatory.
Omega 6 is pro-inflammatory
Red meat has more omega 6 than 3

Hi, I'm tried a low carb diet but not all the way to Keto. I wanted to try to get control of my blood sugars. I am insulin resistant and struggle to keep my sugars down on other diets. For me it worked for the first 4 months but then the sugars returned to the level they like to sit at (8mmol) and now the weight I lost is creeping back too.

Your videos are. such a gift for us, my dear.
Hi Elizabeth, thank you for sharing that.
No refined food
No dairy except butter
No red meat and very little other animal protein.
Eat a wide variety of whole plant foods. Preferably organic or unsprayed.
Avoid to much high cellulose food.

@@DrAndreaFurlan it seems that a lot of people are able to, when the health issues are interfering with their life people can make big changes for good, keto community is growing a lot online. THIS BULL CRAP!!!...
Why don't people do research???
I actual got on keto and DID NOT KNOW IT!!!!. I was taking 5 prescriptions for a very mild heart attack ten years ago....My eating habits were still bad..I was eating whole wheat bread,
rice, all kinds of beans, ALL kinds of fruit(I grow apples, peaches, grapes, vegetables, etc.)...and I love ice cream, but I quit all sodas, over 40 years ago.....i HAD A VERY minor stroke,
3 years ago..even though I was on blood thinners and lipitor......I then decided to change my diet....I quit ALL rice..lentils...corn...wheat...beans...dairy..PERIOD!!... I went from
266 pounds to 204 pounds in TWO months(by the way I am 75 y/o).........I thought I had cancer, even though I felt better.....I looked on you tube, to find out IF WHAT I DID EAT and the
way ate, was the problem....That is when I discovered, I was doing Keto...Let me enumerate the results of MY KETO DIET.
1. I can RUN NOW!!! WHY?.......I could not run for over 30 years, because of my ARMY injuries during the Vietnam War......One of my ankles had damage, but after 3 years of KETO, I can run.
2. My blood pressure has come way down...in fact I was dizzy and my pharmacist told me to keep a journal of my systolic and distolic and inform my doctor .....I told my heart doctor
and he said not to take my evening dose of blood pressure med.
ONE QUESTION....How can eating FRUIT...365 DAYS.....when it is only harvested for a few weeks a year.....My blueberries are available for TWO WEEKS A YEAR....my peaches only
THREE WEEKS A YEAR in season...same as apples.....my grapes ...between 10 varieties...only ONE MONTH...Eating fruits out of season..over loads your carbs....
I have studied KETO nearly 3 years....I eat olive oil and other NON-SEED OILS...and I feel better than I have in over 30 YEARS......Best of all???..I do not need prescription drugs any more .
Amen!!! Congratulations on your return to health and your daughters weight loss 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

FIVE strawberries have 50 grams of carbohydrates???? What world do you live in?
Hi Donna, they vary a lot depending on the source.
Hi Paula, thank you for sharing that
Thank you for your explanation. Keto diet sounds very umbalanced.
It isn't.

I'm 68 and have osteoporosis. I have read in a few articles, that the Keto diet can cause more than normal bone loss, according to studies. I have not heard any Keto advocates mention the possible vitamin deficiencies and other problems it can cause.
Hi Barbara. People who do this diet need very close nutritional supervision if they try this diet for more than 3 months.
You are very beautiful; with that said Keto is life changing if you supplement with it.
This is one example
“Starvation Ketoacidosis due to the Ketogenic Diet and Prolonged Fasting - A Possibly Dangerous Diet Trend”
www.amjcaserep.com/abstract/index/idArt/917226
Thank you for your comment.
Hi Mr Magoo! Maybe for a short period of time it is okay. But not for long term.
So much misinformation.
People who promote keto diet have a lot of misinformation.
You’re the one who is doing misinformation
I’ve never thought this diet was sustainable and can cause a lot of issues over time. Eat variety well balanced of all food groups in moderation
You are wrong ....see my comment.
