Then the cardiologist increased my medication to keep my heart rate down and my blood pressure under 100/70. I gained about 30 pounds and am now diabetic. I truly believe following the cardiologist's directions put me in the boat I am today. I cut drastically carbs in January and have seen a dramatic improvement in my sugar levels almost immediately. I’ve been on ketogenic diet for almost 3 months and have lost a little over 20 pounds. I like that it’s low carb and sugar and that it’s healthier. However, my only complain about it is that there’s a very limited allowed fruits and veggies to eat. I love fruits I grew up with that has high in sugar like mangoes and pineapple. Once I reach my goal weight, I would like to go on a healthier diet with no food restriction. I would stay on low carb and sugar as possible and have portion control. I hope this would work for me. Thank you for all your informative videos. I learn a lot from you🙂

From the environmental point of view, farm animals managed correctly will improve the soil. What is at present destroying our land is also the savior to repairing the damage we have done. Joel Salatin and Savory are two that come to mind in the work they have done to restore land.
I do understand why some folk cannot contemplate killing animals, it is hard to take a life, but farmed well they live a good life and only have one bad day at the end.

Dr. Ekberg you're the best! This is the greatest explanation ever!
I'm a 63 year old woman, and in 7 days I'll be 64. I'm 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighed 115 pounds before my diet. I've been type 2 diabetic for the past 18 years, 16 of which I was on Glucophage pills. Only 6 months ago I was taking 2000 mg Glucophage daily.
I put myself on a low-fat low-carb diet and lost 17 pounds; I was already very slender, and had no weight to lose; now am very skinny with 98 pounds.
I'm consuming many types of nuts, seeds, and lots of steamed vegetables. Every day I drink smoothies that were made with few fruits, lots of greens and vegetables. I eat chicken, eggs, lamb, and most seafood, and I drink lots of water.
I'm very happy because I was able to stopped the Glucophage pills that I had been taking for the past 16 years, but I need to put on a little weight.
Dr. Ekberg, please sir, can you give me some advice on how to safely put back on my 17 pounds, or at least 10. Thank you sir and God bless.

Just turned 70. GP said my cholesterol and blood sugar levels were elevated. Put me on statins.
I then began following Dr Ekberg Keto recommendations for the last two month and I have lost 7 kg ( 87kg to 89kg ) with very little effort. Have increased my high fat foods, ( olive oil on everything, full fat organic milk instead of low fat milk etc.), reduced my wheat based foods, reduced fruits and increased vegetable and cut out all sugary foods like chocolate and sweet biscuits. ( Did not drink soft drink or eat ice cream before ).
Never feel hungry. After a large keto breakfast this morning I missed lunch and just had a cup of peppermint tea instead.
Not only do I have more energy, I also feel much brighter mentally.
So does eating more saturated fats rather than eating less fat help you loose weight and make you healthier? Sure does!
PS. Stopped taking the statins last week.

Years ago, I followed the Atkins diet and lost 42 pounds. But it never felt sustainable and it felt very unhealthy. I was eating too much poor quality protein and virtually no vegetables!
Needless to say, the weight crept back on and it became harder to lose weight.
Since following Keto for 3 months - with intermittent fasting, I've lost 42 pounds and it's still dropping.
I realise that it is very difficult to completely accept something that apparently 'goes against the grain' because the system is fighting against us. But while the health system waits for something to break - before attempting to fix it - when often, it can be too late to fix it, it's down to us as individuals and as a RUclips community - to deal with these matters ourselves.

You allude to this in the end and I think it is worth emphasizing. We can still eat carbs and lose weight. I have lost weight by doing 3 things: 1) dramatically cutting sugar and alcohol, 2) skipping breakfast every day and 3) go out for 40 minutes (at least) walk every day. When I eat, I still eat potato, pasta and cake occasionally. I also fixed my sleep apneas. It is not Earth shattering life changes, but, combined, they are getting me back on track to slow (~ 2kg lost per month) but steady weight loss. BP is down as well. Thanks for your work to educate people on metabolic science. This should be taught in school!

I'm at a point in keto where I am fat adapted. I do a cyclical keto now. I eat small amount of carbs before I go to the gym and sometimes after. I bake my own bread and make my own pasta. I ferment the dough for at least 24 hours usually around 30. That way the enzymes can convert the starch to sugar which feed the yeasty boys. So I have my bread and eat it too.

I love your clear, logical approach, Dr. Ekberg. I do better on keto, but to your point, I still have two hangups: 1) research from older days that showed that saturated fat in the diet could be measured in the blood and presumably deposited in the veins within hours of consumption. 2) more recent studies by neuro scientists stating that saturated fat impairs the brain's capacity to create new neurons. I would be so appreciative if you addressed these two. Thanks!

And I agree, while Dr. Eckberg is right in his claims, this was really more of an anecdotal video, but watch a few other videos about this topic, a lot of interesting stuff to discover. Especially if you understand the Insulin cycle with Insulin and Glucagon and what the diabetes "treatments" actually do.

I do find difficulty with sustaining, especially with carb eaters around me.

You’re not alone. There will always be temptation around. The way I look at it is I’d rather stay healthy long term than satisfying a short term craving. Having said that, try cheating once every two weeks, fast for 24 hrs after that and then keep going with keto. Might be easier to stay on track that way

First time in quite a while now that I've heard the term "fat Phobia" been used in the right context.

Excellent video...especially where you addressed the 'Too Extreme' topic. This is a good point to counteract the 'know it all skeptics'. Thank you!

I've been considering the keto diet for some time, but wanted to do my research prior. This was a good video. I can agree with sugar and processed grains being bad carbs, but what about things like apples, bananas, beans, quinoa, oats, carrots, potatoes in their whole raw forms? Do these types of carbs not add proper nutrition for a diet? Genuinely want to know.

I don't believe "fat phobia" should be the main reason for doubting keto as a "healthy" diet doing long term straight but rather it is the missing out on other important nutrients. By avoiding every food because of carb content such as fruits and vegetables we are also avoiding some essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, enzymes, etc.

Good point. I never recommend to reduce non-starchy vegetables. Most people can also do some fruit and berries while maintaining keto.
