Jillian Michaels is Right about the Keto Diet? (Is Keto Dangerous?)

  • The ketogenic way of eating is getting popular, and it may be cutting into the profits of those who have made millions promoting calorie restriction and exercise. Eating lots of healthy fat, moderate protein and very low carbs has helped many people reverse obesity and chronic disease they thought was permanent.
Jillian Michaels is a very famous and successful fitness trainer. She is a great proponent of exercise as a method of weight loss. She was a celebrity trainer on the TV program Biggest Loser for a few years. Wonder why they have never had a Biggest Loser reunion show? Can you guess why?
Calorie restriction is the wrong paradigm for weight loss. The calorie restriction hypothesis of weight loss has been around for 100 years, and yet we somehow still have epidemics of obesity, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases of diet. Either you are a worthless glutton and sloth, or calorie restriction is a worthless paradigm for meaningful, long-term weight loss.

Keto is so dangerous and being in Ketosis has such a negative effect on the body that I’ve lost 184 lbs so far on it. And also lost type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, acid reflux, sleep apnea, arthritis, and ton of other ailments. Oh, and I also lost the medication I was on. What did I find when I was doing a high carb diet? Cancer twice! I lost half a breast, a uterus, cervix, Fallopian tubes, and my ovaries. Oh, and let’s not forget the thousands of dollars I lost out of my wallet for the medical expenses it took to remove all of that. Then there was the cost of several rounds of chemo and weeks and weeks of radiation treatments. I Was given a 5 year survival rate and told that I would live long enough to get cancer again. I Thank my lucky stars (really a lot of praying for a miracle) that I found a keto diet after the second cancer diagnosis. Which as been WELL over a decade now. I’ll take keto any day and I’ll take being in Ketosis as a means of staying healthy over “traditional” weight loss advice. If you are reading this and your are feeling horrible, try Keto. What do you have to lose? That is how I felt when I started Keto/Low Carb and I have never regretted a day of it.

Yes it's a lifestyle change BUT calorie restriction is not sustainable. Because sooner or later, your body will stop loosing weight and start storing fat because it's not getting what it needs to function properly. So that's why people will gain weight back, and then they usually end up binging because they're starving.

Until I was on Atkins my eating was always out of control! When I was Jillian Michaels age there was no problem with my weight. I only became insulin resistant at about 56. Before I was able to eat anything and never seemed to put on weight. Great job Dr. Berry!

I want to make a point about calorie restriction. I have suffered from severe anorexia for 37 years, and 6 months ago, I went into such severe malnutrition that I needed tube feeding in order to survive, and I was about 40 pounds overweight at the time. For the past 20 years, no matter how severely I was restricting (about 400 cal a day) my weight did not budge AT ALL. I was about 40 pounds overweight, and when I go to treatment, I gain an additional 10 kg. My metabolism is DONE. Of course I say "keto" to my eating disorder treatment team and they all lose their minds...even though they KNOW it can improve my health. Calorie restriction has damaged my body so much. Now I'm going to take responsibility for my own health and recover from insulin resistance

Dr. Berry, I am 58 years old weighed more than 215 pounds and had a fasting blood sugar of up to 350. 8 months ago I started intermittent fasting and the ketogenic lifestyle. I am now 165 and ripped with a six pack. my blood markers are excellent and blood sugar almost never goes over 100 even after eating. Mental clarity is greatly improved and I wake up feeling like a kid on Christmas morning ready to go. Jillian Michaels may want to revisit her opinion and do her due diligence about the facts of this lifestyle. Thanks for all you do.

This is why I love the ketogenic way of eating. I am strongly on the Carnivore side of keto but in 4 years I have lost 100 pounds and easily kept it off for the last two of the four years I have been doing this. I am almost 70 and feeling amazing. Fit strong energetic. I see no need to change my way of eating now. I learned my lesson. Carby foods do not play nice with my body. And YES I totally starved ( 700 to 900 calories a day low fat ) myself for years while steadily gaining weight. Thank you for taking the time to post these videos. Calmed my brain on the cholesterol too.

Right BestCrisisActor ,my only health issue other than low thyroid I have had for 35 years or so is hand arthritis. Eating this way has helped me with the pain. MY PCP told me I should go to a hand specialist and have the end joints of my thumbs removed to stop the pain. EEEKKK I am so not ready for some thing like that. WHAT if it does not work. Then I have even less grip than I have now. I am an artist I live alone except for my fur children I need my hands to survive.

Chris Pyle yep...I ate SAD foods at around 1000 calories for 12 years....gained a kilo on average each year....so much for calories in calories out...lol
I’m almost back to high school weight of 155.... at 163 now...and I’m gaining muscles in the gym....so I may not even reach 155 and that’s okay with me....my goal is to lose fat....not weight...and my bodyfat percentage has been around 17% down from 22% five months ago....can’t wait to see how,low I can take it on the Carnivore diet....once I finally lose the belly weight I’ll know...39inches down to 35...3-5 more inches to go!
And the emotional stability is amazing on keto/carnivore... I never get swallowed up by my emotions...I can feel them and react to them objectively...and when I’m exercising or moving about....I feel so happy...there is not a pill in the world that can compare!

Mike I think eating this way helps us to stay on a more even keel emotionally. Remember sugar totally causes mood swings as it drops or it sure did for me. Some of my weight gain was I had no medical insurance and could not pay 400 a month with a 5K deductible for insurance so I could not get the thyroid medication I needed. No supplements I tried helped much. People just assume when they see such an overly fat person that we are just stuffing our faces. I could show you on I think it was Fit day for years my tracking calories and my weight going up to the point I just gave up. BUT when the doc said he wanted to put me on diabetics medication once I turned 65 and had medicare I totally freaked out as my half sister and half brother both have it. I told the doc lets see how I do back on my thyroid meds Now thyroid meds do not make a person lose weight but help so many other things when you really need them as my blood work showed I felt better moved more and then first went low carb then very low carb then almost carnivore. Once he saw the weight coming off and my BS was lowered enough he agreed to just wait and see. He is shocked I have lost the 100 pounds. He said I am one of three patients he has had to ever do so and all on my own The others had counseling or a gastric bypass. I weigh what I did in high school. My waist at 230 was 40 inches. It is 27 now. If I had the skin surgery I need I would probably lose a lot more weight but at 70 why bother?? LOL IT has been a journey for sure.

I will always advocate the keto/low carb lifestyle because I have seen first hand how well it works! Back in 2016 I was 273 pounds, high blood pressure, and found out I was a Type 2 diabetic (with an A1C of 10.5). To be honest I was miserable. I had no energy, dizzy all the time, and just flat out hurt. I came home from that appointment and googled "what is the best diet for a diabetic". I did see a lot of places saying the standard ADA diet but then I saw one about keto. Way back in the day I had tried Atkins so I was a little familiar with the concept of low carb. I decided to try it. Within three months I had lost some weight and my A1C had dropped to 5.5! Now here it is 2019 and I'm 130 pounds, all my labs at my last doctor visit were in the healthy range, no more dizziness, a lot of my pain is gone, lots more energy, off blood pressure meds, and my last A1C was 4.9!!!! Now Jillian can say and promote anything she wants but I have to strongly disagree with her because I've seen what works! It has literally saved my life.

Great video! I have been on Keto since i was diagnosed with type 2 diabeties at Thanksgiving 2019. I have lost 28.5 pounds, my joints and muscles are no longer sore and swollen. I no longer have migraines. My blood pressure is steadily dropping into the normal range. I'm 41 and I feel like I'm 20 again. Everyone, including my doctor, is asking me how I did it. My office at work has two other people now doing keto with me because they see the benefits. My husband is not overweight, but has done keto with me and lost 18.5 pounds in six weeks. He is now at his ideal weight. My daughter, who is not following the keto diet, per say, but eating all the healthier foods in the house and we no longer buy processed carbs foods, has lost 12 pounds and had a total glow up. We love the diet. It's literally saved my life. On Feb 20th, I'm going back to have my 3 mos check up, and I'm hoping my doctor says I can come off metformin. I started keto 8 days ago, & did 1 full 24 hrs no food fast. Blood pressure dropped from 175 to 160. 15 points in one week, to eat cheaper & healthier, the only thing you need is "discipline" and that's free. Thank you dr, keep it going!

“They”, whoever they are, are getting scared because so many people are realizing they we are being deceived in regards to health and nutrition. It was shocking to me that at 46 years old and seeing 7 different specialists while constantly gaining weight and seeing my health decline, that not one time did my doctor offer his opinion on my diet/nutrition. It wasn’t until I lost 40 lbs and literally reversed my diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, PCOS, thyroid nodules, severe acid reflux, severe allergic reactions and was off ALL meds that my doctor decided to lecture me on healthy nutrition. Both doctors in the practice got heated and tried to scare me off of keto. All this did was fuel the fire and make me question their motives. When I asked them to explain why they no longer had to treat the many diseases that they had diagnosed me with, if it is so dangerous? They had no answer. I truly wish more people would wake up to these facts.

11 days in, keto has already changed my life. I'm a type 2 diabetic and a food addict, and I was losing hope of ever getting control. I started January 1st and I'm already 14 pounds lighter. My fasting blood glucose this morning was 110. I don't remember the last time I saw numbers like this. I'm excited about life and the future again and I feel great. Everything I was taught to do in the past was wrong. Jillian Michaels clearly has a financial motive to slam keto. I think it's irresponsible of her to put this false information out there and put people's lives and health in jeopardy.

Keto is a fat burning miracle! Stubborn "flat-earther" types like her will go the way of the dinosaurs.

Naturally anyone in business will defend their business model. They have two options...Never adapt and fight to the end and risk being put out of business or adapt and contour their business model to do continue to compete. At this point she isn’t trying to adapt thus will reduce her earnings but she will always have a market share but tremendously less. This happens in any industry.

I know it's how reality television works but they had to have at least one contestant in tears every episode. It's obscene, especially in view of the fact that someone did do a biggest loser follow-up & found that the majority of the contestants (including the well-motivated) regained all the weight they had lost.

Dr. Berry, I have been listening to you and following you for 5 weeks very closely. You, Dr. Bosworth and Dr. Berg are my sources of information. With that said, I am extremely happy you addressed Jilian Michaels' claim because it needed to be articulated how wrong she is. I have never been overweight. I'm 6'1, 177 pounds. I have tried veganism for 3 + years with my former girlfriend and I did it but wasn't aware the amount of oxalates it has. I developed kidney stones. I was a vegetarian for a number of years. That didn't help my cause either. Anyhow, I am quite active and never understood why it was I craved certain foods, but limited their intake because of what was propagated everywhere. Approximately 8-9 months ago, while doing sports activity, I brought some good fat with me to give me energy and satiety until I got home. Interestingly, what I found, my energy level was quite high and I didn't have that sagging low. For the past 3 weeks, I have adopted a Ketogenic lifestyle for other reasons as well and quite frankly, I enjoy it and it's helping me in various ways. As for JMs' statement, there is an agenda behind her statement, and it's one I don't care for at all. Thanks for all you do. Keep up the great work. I'd like to make an appointment with you somehow, but I am not in TN. I'd find a way. Stay with it. Great work! Best

When I was in my 20's (im 46 now).. I was overweight and started a diet and exercise program that had me eating 5 or 6 times a day, lean chicken and rice and small potatoes. I had to do cardio every day to lose weight. I was pre prepping meals and it was insanity. I lost weight because I was killing myself in the gym and even though I was eating frequently, I was always in a calorie deficit. It was not sustainable at all! I eventually gained all the weight back. Flash forward to last January. I started doing Keto (now carnivore) and IF. It has been remarkable for my fitness and health. I lost 30 lbs and I eat from 4pm to 8pm monday through friday. I eat Grassfed organic Ribeyes, wild caught Salmon, uncured, no sugar added bacon, pasture raised eggs and certain Cheeses and yogurts. I reversed my thyroid condition and lost all the fat around my belly. Also it cured my IBS that I've been battling for years. I will never go back to the old way of eating! I eat until I am full and I NEVER get hungry during the day while I'm fasting! I have more mental clarity and sustained energy throughout the day. I don't go to the gym. I do pushups and pullups randomly throughout the week. Im lean and healthy because of my diet. This really works!

I think you hit the nail on the head, she is worried that this movement will hurt her business. Going Keto/LCHF doesn't require you to purchase anything. You don't need a gym membership. You don't need to purchase any gym equipment at your house. All you really need is the body you were born with and you can do amazing things. If she was a good business person she would swallow her pride and claim that she was wrong all these years and take the KETO lifestyle and run with it. But I feel she will not do that because her lifestyle is politically motivated. You can not change somebodies political point of view and when all you have to rely on is the business you built on physical fitness and dieting it's hard to change so you fight back.

I had a job where I had to work 60+ hours a week, no breaks no lunches, and I threw out my knee and wore a knee brace after 2 weeks of the job constantly miserable wanted to kill myself as my wife was spending all my money, and just tired of dealing with life.
Learning about Keto from a video game channel from someone who suddenly became Type 1 Diabetic because of asymptomatic foot and mouth disease, I got kinda excited to try it out and see if my health would improve because I had already lost 40+ pounds in 3 months working this terrible job.
Hyped myself up, and wondered when the reality would set in and the diet's hype would die down and I'd be faced with a stark reality that it's like every other fad. 2 weeks later I didn't feel the need to put on the knee brace, so I didn't because I was worried that using it all the time would make it unable to ever heal and it would deteriorate.
4 months later I have had 1 cheat day and the knee brace has never come back on, and I've lost another 40 pounds. I used to get off of work and go home and just suffer. Now I get off of work and I go shopping and thinking about if there's anything new I want to try, or something I want to do with my diet.
I don't miss pizza, I just take the ingredients to pizza, throw it in a bowl, get it nice and warm either through oven or microwave, and I have pretty much what amounts to a pizza casserole with what ever meats, veggies, mushrooms, and cheeses I want, with a low carb sauce.
I'm thinking of making some Curry which is not only within my Macros but is also a nice little treat and I can cut the recipie with butter, to make the sauce even more macro appropriate.
Life has never been better than getting off the SAD diet. More energy, ability to fast for 66 hours with more energy than I had on Pizza, defeated my hunger, I eat now because I need to get my calories in, it's getting harder because my hunger barely lasts for 30 minutes randomly. I find myself wanting to fast but trying not to starve myself because I can slip into a fast effortlessly when I used to suffer from low blood sugar and would eat candy to keep my blood sugar in the 80-90 range.
My life has never been better.

I wasted years counting calories, joined weight watchers so many times and then went low fat, high carb. ( remember carb loading?), then there was Dr. Dean Ornish, Susan Powter and all of those beans they recommended and on and on! I went vegetarian, then vegan and finally raw vegan. I worshipped at the feet of anyone claiming to offer the solution to my ever blossoming weight problems! I could along with many others now reading this write a book on just how all of these failed routines screwed up my self-esteem and metabolism! I even took diet pills both prescription and over the counter whereas my ex threatned me for being irritable with the children . I was at my wits end and contributed much to the breakdown and ultimate failure of the marriage because I didn't want to be seen. He couldn't tolerate my ever fattening body and neither could I! He was mean and condescending and I was depressed, severely depressed and yes suicidal! My skin was like cardboard, my hair was falling out, my teeth too! I was only in my early twenties then. I did not want to be seen, avoided people and dressed to cover up. Then I saw my face in a photo whilst a raw vegan and almost screamed out loud, I had lost my face fat. My breasts and behind too! I was finally slim but unattractive and caught up! Discovering that many of the raw vegans I followed had breast implants , injections, false hair rattled my cage. I begin to awaken fast! I was starving myself and my body was striving to keep me alive by absorbing my non essential fat! I argued for my limitations and continued to eat mainly franken fruits and packaged fake meats! When I finally faced a piece of salmon which I could not eat because I had programmed myself that much! According to PETA I was contributing to the murder and slaughter of these poor innocent animals because I wanted to eat their bodies, omg! I still struggle with the way animals are raised, fed and killed but I own no land, farm nor fields! I live in the city limits and buy my meat and vegetables like most! Anyway my autoimmune condition, debilitating arthritis and near blindness from diabetes is almost gone from the keto way of eating! I will continue to listen to my body and not some merchant who sells products and does not care about us. Thanks Dr. Berry! 🐽

I did the Weight Watchers Diet for years (as did my Mom, husband and oldest son). We would always start gaining weight back afterwards and would continually have to go back on it (including maintenance Weight Watchers dieting). When we were in our early 40's, Weight Watchers completely stopped working for my husband and I. We finally found the Ketogenic Diet, and I have lost over 50 pounds, My 83 year old Mom has lost over 40 pounds, my husband has lost over 40 pounds and our oldest son has lost over 60 pounds. We all feel fully satiated/full most of the time and usually have to remind ourselves to eat.
We are Keto for lifers - over 1 year so far! Pleasantly surprising, we have never felt better and never been healthier - high blood pressure (my Mom & I) - GONE, diabetes (my Mom) - GONE, High Cholesterol (my Husband) - GONE, Arthritis of the knee (me) - GONE, BREAST CANCER (my Mom) - TOTALLY GONE IN 3 WEEKS (3 weeks after her biopsy)! My Mom's Dr. told her that her blood test results are not what they see in people her age - they are similar to healthy young peoples blood test results! her Dr. and her nurses were all amazed and said that they were all going to go on the Keto diet after seeing my Mom's blood test results and weight loss. Our dog is also on the Keto Diet and he is doing great.
Calorie restriction has never worked long term - garbage diet plans. People who "Hate" Police Officers are usually not good people. People who live honest, upright lives usually like Police Officers. I encourage anyone who may still believe Jillian Michaels to watch videos and read up on what the past contestants have said about her and that horrible show The Biggest Loser. Talk about unhealthy! All of the past contestants I have seen have gained all their weight and more back. Thank you for another great video Dr. Berry! :)

Jillian Michael's is a sold out puppet of the evil psychopaths that control our system and want us all obese and diabetic. She is placed in her position to put us in shame and blame mode. They probably give her the good appetite suppressing diet pills they took away from us 20 years ago to keep her thin while they fatten up the rest of us. They love to cause the problem and then shame us for it.

Any doubts I've had up to this point are null now. Thank you Dr. Berry for not only answering Jillians claims but, doing so intelligently and science based. This stuff is hard, hard for those of us who have fought the fat our whole lives. To find something that is actually helping us to heal our bodies when we are only looking for a way to shed pounds and, in the eye of beholders seem healthier, this way of life has so much more to offer. My body thrives and though my loss of poundage may not be as astounding as others, it is healing and it will become as it should allowing it to mend from the inside to become on the outside what it is meant to be. I hate that people with different agendas can attack something if they have any ability to research and conclude how positive this is for us and derail that newbie just coming to a realization. Thank you, Thank you for giving us a good, educated direction and platform to seek and more importantly find.

I think pharmaceutical companies would do all in their power to prevent that because they would lose so much money on weight loss drugs and weight loss shakes and other companies that make low carb frozen meals would also fight this. ..UNFORTUNATELY

I started time restricted eating on 6/22/19. I started Keto on 7/14/19. So far I lost 7 inches from my waist. My severe neck pain. Gone. My gassy upset stomach. Gone. My acid reflex. Gone. My depression. Gone. I found Dr. Fung first and you second. Life Savers. Will never go back. Thank you.

Keto absolutely corrected my metabolic issues. I went from PCOS and pre-diabetes and reactive hypoglycemia and insulin levels off the charts to none of that. Keto restored my fertility (which was a *real* shock because the drs had thought I'd completed menopause!!) and ended all of the blood sugar madness. My fasting insulin levels are ridiculously low. If I recall the old number it was something like 45 and now it's 9. (I don't know the reference range, but I do know it went from very high to low)
But keto didn't touch my GI or autoimmune problems. I ate the way Dr. Berg suggests with tons of veggies. Weight loss stopped and I was battling horrible symptoms of scleroderma, IBS, and ulcerative colitis.
With nothing to lose, I tried carnivore. I'm about 5 months in and I'm a different person. I'm not "cured" by any stretch of the imagination, but my symptoms have dropped by more than 80% across the board.
I think that keto will work for someone who's otherwise healthy, but too many veggies (especially the high-oxalate veggies) can bite people in the butt. Every ketoer's favorite veggies - cauliflower and broccoli - are loaded with goitrogens (thyroid attackers) and might be okay in small doses, but should we really be feeding ourselves *that* much? When in human history have we ever had access to this much fresh produce all year round?
If keto isn't working for GI and inflammation problems, it might be worth looking into.

@@vociferonheraldofthewinter2284 One year almost exactly for Keto. Its my one year anniversary yesterday :) Also, when you said restored your fertility (if you don't' mind me asking) do you mean got periods back or became more regular? Or do you mean your blood tests came back with your AMH (egg reserve) gone back up and your LH and FSH levels back down to a good level? We are looking at fertility issues here. My partner went vegan for a while and got no periods for years. It messed up her hormones so bad it took 3 years to get them back.

I'm glad I got to see this like you wouldn't believe. I just ordered 29 lb of grain fed beef, fish etc. and I also ordered some books on keto recipes and some special dark chocolate.
I got SO hooked up for KETO...
    and the next day...
I see a Dr. saying HERE'S a new approach to diabetes, (which I'm trying to avoid) and he says...it's being vegan!!!!
But despite his argument I'm going to do the keto diet and I'll let you know how it turns out for me.I think it makes the most sense to me so far. It will be a pretty great testimony if it works for me.
