Dr. Berry is an example of what a doctor should be - a true healer - not a pill pusher who is "trained" by big Pharma reps. If we had more docs like him we would be a nation of far healthier people instead of medicated zombies. Keto and Intermittent fasting work incredibly well for me!

    -heart rate
    -blood pressure
    -cured type II diabetes
    -cured sleep apnea
-alleviated headaches and lower back pain
    -normalized my lipid panel
-I have kept the weight off for more than a year without trying
Thank you Ken, for the new lifestyle and for helping so many people. At 53, I have more energy than people half my age.. I did not and do not count calories. I did it all trough low carb (keto) and intermittent fasting (controlling my hormones). I was never hungry and ate plenty. I was about to work myself from being a Firefighter/Paramedic (believe it or not, is a sedentary lifestyle) to being stuck in a casket.
In my opinion, calories is a stupid measure of nutrition. In the medical field, we measure intake and output. When administering fluids, we measure not only the fluids we give, but the fluids we excrete. When was the last time a mainstream Dr tested a persons excrement for caloric content to see what is being utilized by the patient? Just a thought. I now work in a level 1 trauma facility (ER) and garantee that it isn't being done.
Folks, just eat healthy and listen to Dr Berry. The key to most health problems don't come from your pharmacist, it comes from what we consume. Garbage in = garbage out (meaning outcome).
Thanks again for going against the grain, and getting the truth out there! Kudos to you sir. It is people like you and Dr Mark Hyman that have restored my faith in the medical field (functional medicin that is). You two and Dr Jason Fung turned my life around!

Hubby was ordered by Dr to lower carbs to 168/day so of course I had to manage & do same. 6mo later I was down in keto range right about the same time I turned 52. It's been over a year & we've both only lost 40-42lbs each. He "doesn't want to go below a certain weight" (even though the belly still shows otherwise), but I still have 30# to go & the scale hasn't budged in weeks. I can't figure out why. I have read & heard so many great testimonies like yours & I'm really happy for you! I'm also jealous & confused at my own deal. It was @KenDBerryMD video binge watching that taught me enough to do us any good (much better than his Dr's advice). Yes my body size has decreased, but I truly expected to be at my goal weight & size before the 1y point.

I’ve been on the carnivore diet since mid-November (with few interruptions due to the holidays). Initially l didn’t lose much weight, then at the end of December I also started the intermittent fast (16 - 24 hours no eating). I finally lost some weight or fat as Dr Berg says. Since November, I lost 18 pounds. That’s not as much as others say in the comments. I still want to lose more, so I’m thinking I’ll continue until I reach my goal.

Added bonus, eating lots of grains makes the population fat and sick so that they can flog us lots of chemical medicines!

    It works!
One yr ago I was 6’3” 310 lbs. Had done low carb. Chicken breasts and broccoli for weeks and no weight loss and miserable.
Went back and did research. Low carb is NOT keto. Keto is low carb.
Upped fat to 65-80% of total. 20-25% protein. Carbs 10-30 grams day depending on calories in other items. 2000 calories kept carbs 10-15. Other days maybe 12-1400 calories would up carbs to 20-30. Worked for me. Lost 70 lbs in 6 months. Slowly worked into a cleaner keto. More grass fed beef when on sale. Little less bacon and eggs and more 4 egg omelettes with guacamole filling. Better fat. Pecans/macadamia nuts instead of almonds cashews others that are higher carb and inflammatory. Lots of asparagus, cauliflower, spinach(creamed of course) and tons of cabbage in many forms. After one yr down 105 lbs. Joint pain eliminated. 64 yrs old and working out regularly. No super heavy stuff but way ahead of most my age.
Once comfortable with keto eating start intermittent fasting. 12 hrs to start. Work up to 16-20 hrs between eating times when possible. Then you really turn on the fat burning. And I mean FAT not muscle/bone.
Dr Berry #1 in my book.
    Dr Berg very good.
Thomas DeLauer little windy but well informed. Many others
Listen to all and you will find what works for you.

Sisterhood Dr Berry has good videos on intermittent fasting. It should be hours each day. Example you sleep 8 hours a night (or so 😬) that could be the start of your fast. Extend that out to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours before bed, now you’re intermittent fasting for 12 hours. And you keep going to a point where you’re comfortable. Some people fast 20 hours, eat for 4. Seriously though watch his videos, very informative.

His doc offered to help him lose weight for $500. I was like, WHAT...??!! I said, "Look at me! I did it now and it cost me nothing! You did it before too!" We've lost weight years ago before just following the Atkins. But we slowly gained over half back straying little by little. This time I was tetering over close to becoming diabetic and decided "nope" and doing this. I'm more informed than ever before! I loss 14lbs just 12 days back and now 18 as of today!
So by coming off Keto, I think my body forgot what Keto was. That’s why I said I started “Phase II” of Keto. Basically introducing Keto to my body for the “first time” but at my plateau weight. It has worked wonders. If everyone remembers how great they felt and how the fat just fell off when they started; image the same results within the same Keto journey. 😉

Even green tea has caffeine, not just coffee & regular iced tea type tea, as well as chocolate. But then herbs like ginseng (I have a green tea with it) & others are stimulant caffeine substitutes. Isn't it good to limit stimulant intake to early day & not evening? I'm having trouble getting hubby to be careful of that (he's 70 & doesn't sleep really great half the time anyway). Lately he's been getting up to pee extra times per night. I'm leaning toward insulin resistance plus lately he's been downing extra Altoids Artic mints & cough drops bc he's had a barrage of pnumonia, bronchitis, he smokes, & so the persistent deep cough has been around for a few months. The science is quite simple, if you consume caffeine, it will cause your adrenal glands to produce adrenaline which is part of the sympathetic nervous system or fight/flight response and over time, this will promote the release of more and more cortisol. Most thyroid problems are really the result of adrenal fatigue aka hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction. Cortisol promotes estrogen and vice versa, this why "thyroid problems" (which aren't; they're really an adrenal issue) are so prevalent among women as they have much more estrogen than males. But it's even worse than that -- cortisol promotes a different estrogen metabolic pathway converting 2-Hydroxyestrone to 16-Hydroxyestrone which is much more estrogenic and the "hurricane" starts spinning, aka "adrenal fatigue" with "thyroid problems" being just one potential result. If you want to educate yourself further on the topic, look up "Adrenal Fatigue" by James L. Wilson, it's available on Amazon.

I'm conflicted that this video features both sales-Berry and info-Berry.
Calory restriction does work when it's stuck to. I hate when you slander it like this because it comes across as lying, and I want to trust you Berry, you've helped me out.
I lost 4kg on calory restriction without much hassle, even while cheating fairly regularly, over a period of 26 days. At a roughly 1000 calory defecit per day (includes everything, exercise, digestion, basal rate, change in basal rate with weight, all of it), I lost exactly what the calory counting predicted I'd lose.
On keto I've lost roughly 3kg of water weight, and for the purpose of meaningful weight loss I'm going to ignore that as it isn't fat, it's water. This is a healthy thing in itself, but besides the goal of permanent weight loss if one were to stop doing the keto diet.
So on keto I've lost 5kg in almost 34 days. About the same rate as regular weight loss. Yes I am doing it right. My piss stinks like an animal from the extra ketone bodies. You know what else? I tracked calories during keto too. Turns out, once you ignore that 3kg of water, I've lost exactly what the calories predict I'd lose on keto too. Calories are not a myth. Calories are an expression of the conservation of energy, and to this day has not been demonstrated to be violated.
I was previously skeptical of this diet, so I figure I'll show my findings.
There are indeed some significant changes that keto brings to the table.
Weight loss: In theory it is indeed better to control hormones so that your body isn't fighting you as much as you try to lose weight. The reduction in hunger in my experience checks out and is absolutely a huge selling point. I feel I can generally go 50% longer without needing a meal, and food doesn't really bother me as much as it used to. When I ran out of food in the fridge and couldn't be bothered to go out to get more, I found myself going 36 hours without food before I actually felt hungry enough to do something about it (normally I'd force myself to go out the day I run out due to hunger without even skipping a meal). Controlling hunger is truly powerful in reducing how much you typically eat. However on the negative side of the keto diet is the fat. It is extremely easy to overeat fatty foods. They're a little over twice as calory dense as carb-high foods and like 20 times more calory dense than your typical vegetable (which is why it's easy to incorporate most vegetables into a keto diet despite harsh carb restrictions). It's easy to prepare a meal that has waaaay too many calories, that I would have otherwise happily ate in ignorance (and I ate it anyway even with the knowledge. Fatty food is delicious) To combat this you should bulk your food with vegetables to add volume (and of course nutrients), but you still need to apply some degree of willpower, in particular to following the rule: Stop eating when you're not hungry, eat only when you're hungry. No snacks that are eaten solely for the sake of wanting it, even fatty snacks.
Additionally, even with the reduced hunger, hunger still exists. In particular, grelin and insulin, which as Berry says, regulate hunger, spike predictively at the time in the following day when you typically have a meal. The fewer meals you get used to having (easily done on keto), the fewer hormonal hunger pains you'll have to satiate. In terms of hormones: keto frees you from hunger due to crashing blood sugar after a meal, fewer meals frees you from hunger due to expected scheduled meals. Have a meal or two a day.
The previously mentioned reduction in water weight is meaningful. Lower inflammation is healthy. I've attempted to gather data on this, though unfortunately I only got the monitor recently, and I've not seen a doctor in a decade so I have nothing to compare to. However since losing the water weight my blood pressure is 117/80, which is normal, even very slightly low. Now, I am rather young at 22, however considering my BMI puts me in the obese category, I'd be fortunate not to have at least slightly high blood pressure. Ultimately, it seems that the keto may have benificially affected my blood pressure. This seems to check out, and contrary to what traditional medicine has to say about fat too. Potential future heat attack averted.
In theory a diet like this really would effectively cure diabetes, even type 1. Not really cured, you'd still have the disease, but effectively you can live your life as though you didn't have diabetes while eating a keto diet.
A negative I've noticed is that I tire a little more easily from exercise, getting exhausted in roughly 5/6 the time I used to. I'd imagine this is due to less available sugar for my muscles. Supposedly this is something that one adapts to over time, though I've yet to verifiy it in 5 weeks. Perhaps I need but wait one week longer, but as far as I can tell, this may be a feature of the diet.
Other negative features of this diet I've found are bad smelling poop, urine, and sweat. Wash occaisionally folks.
As for other negatives when starting out such as keto flu, headaches, carb cravings and such, I can't vouch for them. I didn't experience anything of the sort despite quitting carbs cold turkey, though I've heard of people getting such symptoms. If that's true then it must be highly situational. Good luck.
Ultimately I'll continue this diet as long as I care to, beyond even achieving the weight I set out to lose, mostly due to the taming of my hunger.
I've a list of people I intend to donate to for services rendered when I set aside the spare funds. Dr Berry, you've made the list. I may not have been in as serious a situation as the many others you've helped, but you've given me control of a very important aspect of my life. You Thank you for what you've done.

Have tried Keto because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis I’m desperate to try and control. Have been on Keto for about five weeks, no carbs whatsoever, no grains, no deadly nightshade plants. Have lost 19 lbs, the IF is a breeze, I am NEVER hungry. It’s as if my body has turned to default and I just don’t feel the need to eat every single day or in fact ever if I’m not hungry, I know because of Dr Berry that’s how my body is supposed to work. The problem with marketing keto has been that Dr. Atkins, Gary Taubes, and even Dr. Fung's message is portrayed that body fat loss is completely, 100% controlled by one's Insulin level. Here, Dr. Berry acknowledges Insulin's primary role, but then explains the other very important hormones and enzymes that work in conjunction with Insulin in the process. I am a firm believer in the "Hormonal theory of obesity" when talking about people with deranged metabolisms including pre-Diabetes through T2D, PCOS, etc. After that, the science tends to point out that ketosis may actually help modify your genome via Epigenetics, may modify your gut microbiome and its impact, increases mitochondrial density or effectiveness, reduces systemic inflammation and pain, and tends to improve cognitive functions and feelings of well being. So, after one takes care of all those issues and regains a healthy "normal" metabolism, then we can move to the "eat less and exercise more" phase and lose those last 10 pounds just like everybody else.

I have 3 rules #1 No bad oils, no sugars or starches #2 If I am Hungry I Eat, I Do Not Eat Unless I am Hungry and I Never go Hungry #3 Eat until I am satisfied (see rule #1) and never feel guilty about how much I eat.
I am 64, my blood work is excellent, BP Low Medium (used to be very High), I am 50lbs lighter and 11" less around the belly, I am on Zero Meds now and I feel great.
I started this last year, My Fishing buddy and I weighed in and bet $100... I was 265lbs, 5' 8" and he was 270lbs, 5' 7" and the bet was he had "Real Doctors" and I'm just listening to "Internet Doctors" lets see which is right.
He is 66 now and has passed 300lbs and has a whole stack of Meds he has to take every day, a Cardiologist and now has Kidney problems (seems he may also have memory problems as he forgot about the $100 bet)
I did get him to throw out all of his "Vegetable Oil" except for Peanut Oil which he Fries Fish in and he has told me numerous times that he hates the smell of Beef Tallow and Lard (and yet I have watched him eat both)
Doing my best to lead by example, hope that it isn't too late for him to change his mind (stubborn ol fart), he has a standard routine Whataburger BOB (Breakfast on a Bun) and Pancakes at 6:00, whatever Burger Combo w Soda and a Fried Pie at Noon and then Popeyes or ? and he loves his dessert.
I don't Preach to him but I don't eat with him anymore either.
I just did a 2 1/2 day Fast (I just wasn't Hungry) and he thought I was nuts so I reminded him of my 3 rules and it zoomed right over his head

I found this way of eating several years ago (Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off) and lost a lot of weight. Started craving a carb or three, and gained back about 20 pounds. Time to start again and go into my eighties in a slimmed down frame. Thanks Dr. Berry.

I really appreciate how you are breaking down the science as to why this way of eating works. This video is helpful in avoiding misconceptions and preconceived ideas of what this diet is after only hearing the word KETO. I have never seen such an improvement in my overall health and have lost more fat than I ever have in the past 8 months following your advice as well as some of the other good docs here on youtube. Thank you for everything you do, I look forward to every video and I appreciate your no-nonsense way of presenting the information.

Hi Dr. Berry, I'm a little desperate hoping for possibly your help or from one of your listeners.
My husband has been carnivore since October, 4- 1/2 months (Yay!). Multiple people at his work have been on diets or keto etc and have lost weight in upwards of 20+ pounds in a short amount of time. He has been strict and diligent and I'm so proud of him, 2 1/2 pounds of ribeye a day, mostly at lunch and the rest for dinner. Black coffee in the mornings. Prior to this he ate healthy & mostly organic but the typical standard American diet minus bread/grain. Needing to lose 50 lbs, he only lost 8. Is there anyone else that you know of that is struggling with the weight? ***We took his Labs before and after at about 2 months into being carnivore. They were awesome! So amazing! Perfectly healthy with cholesterol and A1c, etc. Just struggling with the weight and I do not want him to get discouraged. Is there anyone else that you know of that is struggling with the weight? (a lot of walking at work, and does not cheat) Any suggestions? God bless you so much ~ J :)

      Hi Chuck, thanks for sharing!
I believe your husband is on a great path, he might just need to eat less. Caloric restriction is a sure-fire way to lose weight, I'm pretty sure this will work for him. But even if he keeps his weight, as long as his inflammation and body-fat is low, I believe he can be pretty healthy!
Wish you and your husband good luck on your health journey!

    I am a 68 year old lady.
I have never had to diet.
All of a sudden I have thyroid and SVT and prediabetes issues.
I pass out at random times and places.
I am losing weight. I do not need to lose weight.
September 5 I weighed 130 pounds at the doctor. That was a correct weight.
    Today I weigh 118.
People around me comment on how thin I am.
I started eating low carb to bring my blood sugar down.
I have no fatigue and have good appetite.
How can I gain weight without eating carbs and sugars that are bad for diabetes?

You wanna gain weight just because people around you comments about your thin body? At age 68 you should just ignore those stupid comments and just enjoy the life you have left. The thing is you don't wanna gain weight as you get older you wanna build muscle.

Ive been thinking about keto on and off for many years now. I was worried to start because I heard it can make you feel pretty bad at first. But im at the point where it takes hours to get out of bed. So I am going to start because I cant feel much worse than I do now.
Another reason I was hesitant was because the longest living people in the world, in okinawa, have a lot of rice. Maybe all the fish and musbrooms they have counteract the negatives or theyre just more adapted to it than us

I have friends that aren't obese or even don't have much extra fat to burn but are unhealthy with issues such as Hashimoto's, fibromyalgia, IBS, fatigue which I know could be revered with the Keto diet. Not to mention T2D. I share a lot of your vids in the hope they will get the message and change their eating habits of a lifetime.

Very confused. You mention more than once there is no need to restrict calorie intake or portion size, yet you also advocate fasting. Fasting is pretty restrictive. I can't get any further than 17 hours of fasting. Which is better for weight loss?

    • @AlbertKingboss
      @AlbertKingboss 4 года назад

Hi Diane, caloric restriction (eating less) will allow you to lose weight really fast. Fasting allows your body to tap into its own fat stores instead of relying on food. In short, I believe fasting is a healthier way to lose weight since you're burning fat and not slowing down your metabolism.
