Nice pattern, one trick I do when using goose biots for tails is to put either a small ball of dubbing or just a build up of thread first to separate them... This forces the biots to stay in place, even when wet...
Good Morning Sir Matt, I love this one, and I don't know if you remember, but I won the giveaway for that book and use it alot it's been a big help to me. Thank you Sir and enjoy your weekend I believe you said you were going out of town so be safe.
You bet Rudy and thanks for watching my friend! I used to do four tying videos a week. That was getting to be a little much so I dropped down to two. Then I had a couple of nights a week where I got bored with nothing to make! So now I'm back up to three. Sometimes it's a chore but I'm still having fun and haven't burned out yet so I keep plugging along. (And no, I probably don't sleep enough!)
Good morning Matt. I like these easier nymphs. Like some others have mentioned goose biots are not my favourite, heck even spell check wants to change them to boots. I like the krystal flash instead of the biots for sure. Thanks Matt and safe travels.
Good morning Matt, nicely tied!! Glad to hear that I am not only one that has issues with tying in goose biots. Have a great day and thanks for sharing!!
Matt, your channel is one of the best fly tying channels I've come across and have binged almost all of your videos, Keep them coming! If you take recommendations on flies to showcase, I'd love to see a crawfish imitation in a traditional style, or more bass and panfish flies.
Thank you Eli, I love getting comments like this! I'll see if I can add some kind of bass bug for Saturday's video. What do you mean by "traditional" crawfish? Feather claws maybe? I've only done one on the channel (Don Brown's Crayfish) from Dick Stewart's book. But maybe it's time to do another. :-)
Great way to start the day! I love your attitude that we aren't tying it to put in a display, we're tying it to catch fish & if it does that we've succeeded even if it ain't perfect. To me that's one of the things that sets you apart from some of the others Matt. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Depending on how my fingers want to behave (vs. how my mind is trying tell them to operate), biots can be awfully fussy, so I’m alway happy to learn an alternate method. Thanks, Matt.
Absolutely! I guess the misleading thing about using biots in a video is that it probably looks like I snipped them off and immediately put them on the hook. I assure you that rarely happens. It probably takes me a good minute to get the tips even, the back sides together, and then to pick one of them back up after dropping it. But I can edit that out and not make ya'll suffer watching me fumble around with them. But this does make me wonder if anybody watching this thought, "Wow, I'm never that fast with biots." I should probably tell everybody that I'm not either. :-)
These are extremely productive flies, and not just for trout. If you weight it down a little and smear it with something stinky, it even works for catfish occasionally.
Great lookin fly Matt.I still the old original prince.Yeasterday in the dye pot was deer hair.I am pickin up Cloie from school now,she is in for a surprise thie evening. It's deer tails, not buck tails, some are from bucks, some are from does.I have 18 or 19 got them from my local butcher shop, they throw then in the trash, now they save then for me.This weekend is going to be about chickens, capes and saddles. It's pretty here in the smokers leaves are starting to get there colors.Matt you and yours have a great weekend. Ken
Thank you Ken, and man I sure wish I was down there in the Smokies about now. I know it's beautiful! My farm is out in the mountains of western Maryland so the leaves there are starting to turn their fall colors. It's a great time of year. Have fun with Cloie and all those freshly dyed deer tails. :-)
I like these easier versions of Prince nymphs...I just watched Shorty on the Fly's video a few days ago...time to add these to my box...I hate goose biots. Lol Thanks for sharing Mr O'Neal.
One little trick I learned tying in goose biots is to build a small football shaped build up of thread at the point of the biot tye in and that really helps keeping them spleyed apart.
Appreciate it Chad! And you know, I still haven't given up on tying one of your Alpaca nymphs. I'm going out of town this weekend so maybe I'll take the stuff with me to practice a bit. :-)
Holy cow, it is very similar. I've never seen that one, but it's going on my to-do list. The next time it's 11pm and I haven't started the next day's video, having a quick one like that in the queue will be nice. Thanks for the recommendation. :-)
I tell you David, I've usually had better luck smallmouth fishing with streamers but that one day, they were crushing the prince! And I wasn't even purposely fishing for smallmouth. I mean, I knew they might be in this water, but it was a delayed harvest trout stream. I was actually fishing for trout and got a couple in the morning, so when the first smallmouth hit, I thought I had a nice hefty 18-inch brown on the line. But it turns out a 14-16 inch smallmouth can be quite a slab of a fish. :-)
@@SavageFlies Just got home from the Wisconsin Driftless area (my home state). Did very well using this one! Yesterday was the last day of our season until C&R opens in January. A lot of tying to fill my boxes before then.
The Prince Nymph is by far and away my best producing fly so have to try this one. The old Prince is an old favorite here in Utah. I just wish I knew what the fish thought it was!
You and me both my friend! I've caught a lot of species with the Prince Nymph, in lots of different waters. And in some places I *know* the fish had never even seen an artificial fly, but they loved it. We may never learn what they think it is. :-)
I like this variation of the prince nymph. I really like the idea of the crystal flash . It definitely looks like a fish catcher. Looking forward to giving this a try in the vise and on the water. Anyone have any success with this version ? Thanks again Matt for the upload of this fly!
I dont need any-- I've still got a full skin and two more coming in my latest order. Which reminds me... where is that order? I had forgotten about it! But if you ever want to send anything like that I'd be happy to give some away to a viewer who could use them. 🎁
I sure have Dave! I grew up in north Georgia so took a few vacations to Gatlinburg as a kid. But it's a pretty long way from me now so I've probably only fished there three times in the last four years. Tuckaseegee River and Oconoluftee River near Bryson City. And I was driving through this past summer and stopped for a night at the campground there on the Little River. I love the area and am planning a spring trip next year.
Glen, the UV is actually from this Riverruns kit: amzn.to/3Ak6DSV but I put it in one of these bottles. It makes it very easy to apply, even in really tiny amounts. amzn.to/3BzLfuc
I am sitting on the edge with my coffee watching intently ☕️☕️
Hmmmm.... coffee. And donuts. :-)
@@SavageFlies I wish I had doughnuts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good morning Matt thanks for another great one
Appreciate it Marty!
Good morning Matt. Like this version of the Prince nymph. Will have to give it try. Enjoy you weekend sir.
Thanks Karl!

Great call Randy, and someone else has mentioned this too. But I always seem to forget to do it. :-)
Morning Matt. As always, nice nymph. Thanks!
Thanks Nich. Appreciate you watching my friend!
These are excellent tutorials by a humble Tyler!

Thanks Edward! No fishing weekend for me- just farm work. 😁
Nicely tied Matt and a fish catcher indeed. Thanks for sharing
Anytime Layton! Appreciate it my friend. 👍
Happy to report that this pattern worked well on the Bow River in Calgary yesterday.
Can’t wait to give this one a try nicely done Matt👍
Same here Jim! 👍
Do you ever sleep Matt? The frequency with which you post your video's is amazing! Thx 4 the inspiration and tips, much appreciated.

Thanks for this great alternate Prince Nymph. I like your clear presentation and camera angle.
Great pattern Matt. I also have a tough time with those biot wings. Nice tip to get them secure.
Thanks Michael, appreciate it my friend!

Not by a long shot Steve. 🤣

Thank you Garrett! And yep, if I waited to tie a perfect fly before posting a video, you'd never see anything from me. :-)
That’s a great looking variant. I see a dozen of these in my box very soon. Thanks Matt.

Love the look of biots but, as you say, can be difficult. 😂. Nice little nymph. Thx Matt!
Oh yeah Clyde. If the video made it look like I was fast with them, it's because I could edit out all my fumbling around with them. :-)
Great fly, I really like the materials graphics you have added in the last few videos. 👍👍👍
Thank you Thomas! I was wondering if anyone would notice those. :-)
These are extremely productive flies, and not just for trout. If you weight it down a little and smear it with something stinky, it even works for catfish occasionally.
Ha! Jim Holland just told me he landed a big flathead catfish down in Georgia last week. :-)

Nice job Matt I like the crystal flash wing. Thank you for the inspiration to hit the vice
You bet David, now get back to it my friend! :-)
Thanks Matt. I like this variation. I'm thinking of a sparkle red copper john variation. Thanks again for the great video. God Bless n fish on
Very cool. Lots of options on color of flash too. Thanks Matt.
I didn't even think of that Joe. And I've got all kinds of crazy colors of flash. Cool idea!

Great point Rollin! I'm going to have to remember that for my next biot tail. :-)
Another nice one Matt. Keep 'em coming.
I like it! Will tie some up and give them a try this weekend. Thanks a lot Matt. 👍🎣

Thank you Klaas! Actually these are my old glasses, just thought I'd mix it up. But I do have some new glasses on order. :-)
Gotta give this one a try also looks like a great pattern , thanks
Thank you Denny!
I never thought about using a prince nymph for smallmouth, I may have to give it a try before this season is over
