I love that you just use what you have on hand and improvise to make the fly work. Also you didn't edit out what we all experience one in a while. That should work well in the mountains.
Good morning Matt! I have commented before to you regarding prayers for my Father's health.Well yesterday March 5 th, the Lord welcomed my father to the big river in the sky.I want to thank you for your prayers. My father was a great angler who loved to fish the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Most importantly a wonderful husband and father. He always made time to take me fishing. For those fellow anglers i would like to share a prayer for my father.God grant that I may live to fish For another shining day.But when my final cast is made I then most humbly pray. When nestled in your landing net As I lay peacefully asleep, You'll smile at me and judge That I'm " good enough to keep." RIP Dad! Thanks to Matt and the rest of the Savage Fly community.
Joe, I'm so sorry for your loss my friend. He sounds like a great man. I hope you find peace during this time. I'll be thinking about you. Stay strong my friend.
Looks like a good caddis pupa imitation, with the long legs and especially the use of cdc. I'm going to tie a few! Maybe I'll even try it in the Smoky Mountains.
Matt, Buggy for sure, as for a mess most of my flies are a bit of a mess. I found your channel a couple years ago and have to say you do a great job. As a native East Tennessean who makes it to the mountains on occasion I have really enjoyed your series on Great Smoky Mountain flies. Hope your trip into the area is enjoyable. It's a shame you weren't here this past weekend. Walter Babb gave a tying demonstration at the fly shop in Townsend.
I'm not in the Smokies but I think the patterns would work great in the Appalachian Mountain range within Pennsylvania. Love your tying shows and watch almost every day... Thanks for sharing it with us all. Great show!
Good morning Matt. ☕️ time on a sunny morning on the desert. Our time is winding down here, about 6 weeks left. I have never tied a CDC feather, they sure look fragile. I have some back home so I’ll have to try using them when I get back. I have never fished in the mountains but it’s still on my list. Watching all the mountain fishing videos sure makes it appealing. Have a great weekend Matt. Take care.
Nice pattern, it's also nice to see when things goes wrong and how you compensate for them in your videos. Can wait to see a clip from your next visit to the mountains streams of Allegany County MD!
Cool looking bug. I can’t wait to get up in the mountains and fish it. We had a couple of late snowstorms so might be turkey season before I get up there. Hope you have a great week! Thanks again Matt
Another great video Matt. Catching wild fish in the mountains on flies that you tied has to be the best feeling. I've learned so much from watching your videos. Definitely a trailblazer in the sports. Thanks brother.
Matt - thanks for putting this one in the vise. While I won't be in the mountains anytime soon I am sure this will fish well in the Michigan rivers and streams.
Great looking fly. Good luck on your trip to the Smokey Mountains at the end of the month. I was there last in September and saw more bears than we had on any previous trip. Was a nice treat!
Thank you Matt, for another great video; I appreciate your time and energy. Your presentations are always well scripted, well filmed, well edited, informative and just the right amount of back story. I live in western Washington with the Cascade MOUNTAINS right down the middle. Of course with mountains one will find caddis. I'm definitely going to tie some of these; they look like they will do the trick nicely!
Thanks for the pattern Matt. I have the Pennsylvania copy of that book great book! I wasn’t able to fish on my last trip to the Smoky Mountains but hopefully next time.
I'm making a trip up to the Great smoky mountains this month too. Fishing is GREAT this year. Talk to Travis at the fish hatchery about the brown trout swimming Gatlinburg waters. It's a monster!
Hello Matt, Intriguing concept, a nymph / wet fly combo. I'm going to tie some to try on my favorite Front Range streams and rivers here in the Rocky Mountains.
Matt thanks again for another great fly. Even though there are thousands of #Mountains between Las Vegas and the Great Smokies, I am sure there are quite a few flies in the book that I could use out here in the western US. Have a wonderful day Matt and all of the subscribers!!!
Morning Matt. I haven't tried this type of fly before, but I have seen it and you make it look easy. The western Sierra mountains may be a good place to try this fly.
Good Evening Sir Matt, I really love the way this fly looks. I'm going to get sum of these tied up for the spring. Our Reservoir Lake Meredith I'm not sure if we can fish there for a while because of the Panhandle wildfires heating so close to home as I text this it's only 55% contained it's been going on for over a week many friends lost everything including livestock houses businesses vehicles a lot of people lost it all
Born and raised in the Mountains of WPa. Fished the Mountains of Va. Hiked the Mountains of WVa. Dream of visiting the Mountains of Idaho. This should make my odds of winning 4 times greater, eh Matt? Love the fly today
I will have to try tying up a few of these. I live in I will , and and we'll try these in northeast iowa in the drifless area. We don't have mountains in Iowa, but I'm going to go to Arkansas. And will have to try them on the White River. Thanks for the video.
Have a nice trip to the mountains Matt, you've got a pretty nice fly to take with you. The fish have been hiding pretty well down here at Lake Okeechobee, but I'll have a little more time to fish in the next couple of weeks. Keep the good stuff coming and have fun on your trip.
I hope to get to fish the Great Smokey Mountains in the next few years. I visited the area a few years back with my wife, and she chuckled at how often I commented on the “fishy” waters in the area. I imagine the rear CDC hackle traps a good amount of air on the back of the fly with a good number of bubbles being released off the fly is fished actively or on the swing.
That just shouts “bug.” I suppose it could be seen as a an emerging caddis with that veil of cdc serving to provide the same purpose as Antron in Gary LaFontaine’s Deep Sparkle Pupa, giving the impression of an air bubble. When I fished the Sparkle Pupa, it worked pretty well on a wet fly swing.
I tie a similar fly for the mountains in Colorado. If I am correct, I sent you an email with it. Great video and a great fly. Good luck in the Smoky Mountains.
I love that you just use what you have on hand and improvise to make the fly work. Also you didn't edit out what we all experience one in a while. That should work well in the mountains.

Maybe your dad will meet my firstborn son beside still waters. Praying you feel His presence filling the current void. God keep you.

That is one cool looking buggy fly. Thank you for another fun one!
Enjoyed watching you tie this fly Matt, the way you did this pattern is right up my alley. Love the smokie mountains, maybe I'll see you there.
Thank you May for this and all your other tying videos. I have learned a lot from watching them. I hope your trip to the mountains goes as well.
When I head up to the Smokey Mountains this trout season, I'll be sure and tie up a few and try em' out...thanks for everything Matt.
Thanks for the mountains of knowledge you've given us about fly tying, Matt! Great fly!
I've never been to the Smokey Mountains but spend a lot of time fishing in the Uintah Mountains. Thanks for the video Matt.

That fly looks like a good one to use in the mountains at one of my favorite trout lakes. Thanks for sharing this pattern.
Matt - thanks for putting this one in the vise. While I won't be in the mountains anytime soon I am sure this will fish well in the Michigan rivers and streams.

Nice fly but agree, not much like a caddis. Love the peacefulness of fly fishing. Thx Matt.

That cdc really is a pain to work with sometimes but it does make a nice buggy fly. Great as always Matt! Should work well in the mountains.
Love it! Heading to Cherokee, NC soon to fish the Great Smoky Mountains
Outstanding John! I'll be down there this time next week. :-)

Hey my friend this looks like a cool one I may need to do one
I enjoy your work ty. Mountains
