Story 3: Imagine thinking that grades are more important than your own daughter's well being, not letting her take that break from school will not only burn her out but will also make her grades drop as she might get depressed and very stressed out from the whole situation. OP might be making her do what he wanted yo prevent in the first place with that stupid decision he made

I hate parents such as that, and it’s all about their ego, not wanting what’s best for their child and loving them. I’ve had classmates who have ended their own lives over academic/parental pressure.

Story 3 - OP, by the time your daughter turns into a grown woman, don't be surprised if she moves out of and never speaks to you again for the dismissive, uncaring, callous douche that you've been towards her in the wake of her mom passing away, not giving her enough time to process said mental scars.

If you’re in the Ohio USA region, stay away from anything owned by “Venture Communities”, they will routinely sell the contents of your storage units on their sites, and sneak in hidden monthly up charges for things already covered in lease.
They are the greediest apartment management company I’ve ever seen.

Story 3: This guy is doing the exact same thing my grandparents (had to live with them for 4 years due to personal issues) did to me after my mom died. I still resent them for it 5 years later and I'm planning on going no contact with them in a year or two. (for other reasons as well but this is one of many reasons.) My toxic grandfather almost dragged me to a mental hospital a couple months ago because they wore down my mental health and prioritized my grades over mental health. The result is that I committed self harm twice over the span of six months, almost had to be dragged to a mental hospital, and failed my final quarter of math because of serious mental health issues that they had refused to let me see a therapist for despite my other grandfather offering to pay and take me. Even now that I'm in therapy, they still have inflicted tons of damage that will take years for me to heal and recover from. If you keep pushing and prioritizing grades, eventually the poor mental health is going to catch up and everything falls apart. A week to refresh her mind and process the grief won't ruin her grades, by forcing her, it is ruining her grades.

Story 1: If it isn't scummy tenants, its scummy landlords.... and people wonder why there is a housing and renting crisis right now. Good thing the other person living there had a good lawyer for a dad, because a lot of times, most people won't pursue any legal action on stuff like this unless its huge. Glad the OP got his money back.
Story 2: I don't think the OP is a jerk here, but maybe taking Minecraft a little bit too seriously here. Set your game/server to private and just move on here. It's not worth getting that upset over.
Story 3: While the OP deep down means well for his daughter's schooling in the long run, he is a Grade AA jerk here. The daughter is clearly devastated and taking her mother's passing very hard and the OP is making it 10 times worse by pretty much offering little to no support here. I get that everyone handles grief differently, but hes not really allowing her to grieve much, if at all. The daughter could easily use a couple of days or a week away to mentally cope with everything. I think the OP needs to do some serious backtracking and apologizing here, because i have a feeling that this could damage his relationship with her in the long run.
Story 4: OP is not the jerk at all here, the brother's gf is. While you could blame some of this on pregnancy hormones or personal taste, she was way out of line by both throwing out the OP's steak, and then starting to spray some kind of perfume in the kitchen. I'll bet the perfume smelled way worse then his dinner. I totally would've kicked her out too, she had absolutely no right to do what she did, and i also give her extra jerk points for taking it out on the brother, even though he stood up for her. The parents are also wrong here too, this is definitely not on the OP's head here.
Story 5: this whole situation sounds very off-putting and weird. I can totally see why the OP doesn't like the fiance here and i can see why the OP doesn't want to be the best man here. This whole wedding thing just sounds like a trainwreck waiting to happen.

story 2: Your feelings are valid but the 'it's fine' response has literally never worked out well for me. Your partner did understand and apologize; I really think it would have been better to acknowledge that and explain how the friend cutting down your trees and ruining your things was the last straw to something you already didn't like. When you don't try to explain why you feel the way you do, often resentment born of misunderstanding will build up even if your partner pulls the 'it's fine' thing on you too.

Story 2: I completely get where OP is coming from. When you build a lot, and put a lot of time and effort into those builds, it hurts to watch someone break stuff. I rebuild a ruined village and turned it into a cherry blossom village and I’d be pissed if someone broke one of the houses or decorations, because they took time out of my day to make.
Me and my bf also play games to have some us time, and it can most definitely get annoying when people intrude on that.

For story 3. Everyone is not seeing the whole picture here. Yes I do see how he can be the jerk, but he didn't say he wanted her to have high grades he thought that missing so many days of school would be the problem. Plus he stated that having a routine would be better to have than dwelling on it. For someone who has lost close family while in school I thank my parents for encouraging me to continue on not expecting high performance grades but just going and continue with having friends around me and not just focusing on the bad.

  • @michellecoleman5577

story 3: People do weird and stupid things when grieving but jeez. Quite apart from the callousness what a moronic move. You know what will actually damage her academic performance way more than some time off? Being forced to try to focus on stupid school work while her brain is unable to cope with the emotional burden. I hope the OP figures out how much of an idiot they are when they see the daughter's grades dropping dramatically and she yells at them that she just couldn't do it right now.

My parents even with my depression and when i was recovering mentally from a near death experience would constantly push me about getting high grades. Even now as im trying to figure out my depression they arent doing anything except sending me some medications to use. They do constantly say that they love me but they rarely address my mental state. And when i brought ip my near death experience last year, they said i wasnt at risk of dearh even though it was an internal infection of high danger. Op is 100% in the wrong and the daughter is in more pain than anyone can realize. Writing this i feel like it might be good to share this on the reddit. Should i share the full story on the reddit?

Landlords such as this are the worst. I never sign a lease without talking to either a lawyer, or cheaper yet a paralegal. I’ve learned what is and isn’t covered, and have even been able to negotiate for lower rent or more favorable lease terms. I also make sure to clean up the unit and document all pre-existing damages. I’ve had to sue a few former landlords for trying to con me out of my deposits, report them to the city or to HUD (or both).

This happened back in the fall of 2013. Our son came home with the school picture packet, my husband was going to have to go to the ATM to withdraw cash to pay for the selected package. I looked over the information where I saw an option to pay online so I told him not to go to the ATM since it’s out of his Bank network. I used my card to pay for the pictures, great right?… Nope, he had not received his photos when everyone had. My husband had begun contacting the company to see what the holdup was n they claimed no payment was ever received. I was hella pissed off by that because I HAD paid. I then locate the receipt from my email THEN I find the correct bank statement showing when the payment was drafted from my account. I then forward the email n a scanned copy of the statement page showing the draft date to the company. All said we FINALLY received his senior pictures one month before he graduated!… Once we had them in hand I went online disclosing our experience with this company everywhere I could think of hoping to protect other folks from going through this same situation. Had we used cash to pay we could’ve been scammed into being forced to pay twice in order to get his pictures.

I get that a pregnancy can make women nauseaus to certain smells. I get that sometimes when I'm on my period, so I can only assume that a pregnancy heightens it. But where is the fucking problem to just leave the kitchen and go outside where the fresh air is until the steaks are cooked and her boyfriend comes back with the chinese food? You never throw away other peoples food and you never spray perfume in the kitchen. Being pregnant doesn't entitle you to decide what other people should or should not eat in their house, just leave the kitchen and go where the smell doesn't reach. She probably didn't even offer to pay him back for his wasted food either

I have a story and want to share because I’m unsure if I was the jerk
When I was in 6th grade I was the weird kid and had a friend(Let’s call her Sophia) who was manipulative but I escaped her
I was on the bus in 3rd quarter and she behind me
I got up and she kept shoving me but I stood my ground
I got on my transfer bus and sat down in the front seat corner
Sophia asked a girl to move and she did
Sophia stole my backpack(put it in the middle of the walking area) ripped my headphones off my head, and she knows I’m very noise sensitive and get overwhelmed easily
I covered my ears and then she grabbed my hands and kept taking them off me screaming in my ears “WHY’D YOU SLAP ME ON FRIDAY FREAk?!”
The week before she kept throwing volleyballs at me so I took it to prevent getting hit
As a result she and her 2 friends started taking my water bottle, pencil pouch, and my computer case
I half stood up and tried to grab my pencil pouch and hit her arm due to she moved while I tried to grab it
As a result she slapped me and left a bruise on my face
I reported Sophia to the principal
Afterwords someone else had stole my seat on the bus so now I’m across from Sophia
She put her arm across the walkway in my face
It was hard to breath(I was on the edge due to my friend being in the corner and I didn’t wanna squish her)
I remove her hand from my seat and she claws me with her nails leaving red marks on my arm
When I finally got out of the shuttle bus and onto the transfer bus
On the transfer bus she pours water on me and laughs
As a result the next time she puts her arm across I grab it instead of removing from my seat and pull it
She fall into the walkway and I drop my backpack(purposely) and bruise her eye and bruised her femur, school ended by the time I did it so I’m hoping next year I don’t have to go through that hell again
    Still,
    Am I the jerk?

Story 4: I was a nineteen-year-old pregnant teen who couldn't stand the smell of red meat cooking. In fact, it made me feel so nauseous that I lost what little appetite I did have. However, I most certainly didn't and wouldn't have thrown someone else's food out just because I couldn't stand the smell. That's just disrespectful and entitled, especially considering she was a guest!
But as far as the whole "she's over the age of eighteen, she's an adult!" comment, that is ridiculous. Yes, the law currently states in many countries eighteen is the age of majority. However, the law is outdated and heavily skewed. We know that physically the body is still growing into our twenties, we know that our brains and thus emotional understanding and development still have a long way to go. An adult's brain plasticity is different from the developmental plasticity of teen years. During our teen years, the brain is still developing new circuits, and pruning away what it deems unnecessary, it's going through massive changes in a very short period of time. This time period is primarily when executive functions-logical reasoning, planning, self-monitoring, self-control, organisation, working memory, and other high-order thinking. Adult plasticity continues on throughout our lives, however not as strongly as into our mid to late twenties. During that time modifications to the brain including those regarding extending the depth of our emotional regulation, and self-monitoring are still strongly happening.
So yes, at nineteen she should have known better than doing what she did, she should have been taught from a young age about consideration and how to be polite in other people's spaces, however, it appears this never happened, and you can't expect someone who wasn't taught a life skill to just suddenly know it just because she stepped over that eighteen-year-old threshold. It doesn't help that OP's parents are enabling her behaviour just because they're excited to become grandparents. She should be taught that this behaviour isn't socially acceptable, that her pregnancy doesn't entitle her to do shitty things like this. Because she's still young enough to learn what is and what isn't okay, and how to respect other people's boundaries. So when her kid is growing she can then teach them also.

Third Story: Dude, you are an absolute jerk. Not only are you being heartless for prioritizing your daughter's grades, but you're probably gonna do more harm than good for them. Depression is no joke, and it's something you should be prioritizing to keep in check than some grades.

The fourth story... The pregnant child is completely the jerk. Myself... I'd have jackslapped that girl, pregnant or not. You don't go in someone else's house and touch anything, especially their food. If the smell was making her sick, then she needs to go sit outside. I've been pregnant and smells can make you nauseous; and hormones can make you rude, but they don't make you throw other people's food in the trash then spray perfume in their kitchen. Hormones might have you saying that stinks and I'm going to vomit, but common sense takes you outside for some fresh air. *What a jerk!* I'm with the OP, toss them out, and she's not allowed back until she apologizes, and pays for the steaks, and then some. And the pregnant child needs to be contrite when she apologizes.

Acts like a duck, quacks like a duck, must be a duck.
Acts like a child, throws a temper tantrum like a child, inconsiderate like a child, must still be a child.
19 is still a teenager. A teenager is still a child.
Your frontal lobe is not fully developed until you are 25 years old. Then you really are an adult.

Story 3. I completely disagree with our narrator. I don't think the OP is the jerk for prioritizing his daughter's education.
Grief is always a tricky issue to navigate, and while I agree that he shouldn't be so strict in this regard, it also doesn't necessarily mean that he is being a jerk... you need to remember that the OP is also grieving and is not in the best state of mind.
I know that in this situation, I would want something to help distract me so I can take my time to process and not be overwhelmed by taking it in all at one time.

Story 4: Is the poster dumb? She’s literally pregnant. And a teenager. Your brain stops braining. This is why so many women are constantly misdiagnosed or improperly medicated by male doctors when it comes to mental and physical illnesses. Men underestimate how heightened a woman’s senses are and how many more pain receptors female bodies have in comparison to a male’s. On top of all of that, she’s family. Give grace, have a conversation. Immediately kicking them out was irrational, insensitive, and ignorant.
Edit: Let me clarify that I’m not saying what she did was right. I’m just saying we should acknowledge every factor before making a harsh judgement- not that there shouldn’t be judgement at all

This is absolute nonsense. Pregnant or not you don't go into someone's home and throw out THEIR FOOD. If she didn't like the smell she could have waited outside or gone with her partner to get chinese.

    • @DanielGonzalez-qk6sd
      @DanielGonzalez-qk6sd Год назад +5

Nope the “she is just a teenager” excuse does not work. She is 19 meaning a legal adult. Also if she is mature enough to have intercourse she should be mature enough not to touch someone else’s food.
As for being pregnant. That is not an excuse. Her inability for rational thought is not something OP needs to accommodate and since its his house he can kick them out for any reason at all.

I don’t disagree you guys. I just think kicking her out was overkill bc of that was overkill. If you feel otherwise, agree to disagree. I don’t argue with people on the internet

I have been around a lot of pregnant people these ten last years as 12 of my cousins had children during that time. None of them had any problems to think rationally or to step away if things became too much. Saying that women are just hormonal crybaby while pregnant is far from reality. Yes, you experience stronger emotions and sensations. But you stay a human being with a brain, able to decide if you act on these emotions or not.

Throwing out the food was bad enough and crossing a line, but then to spray perfume was going overboard too. OP had every right to kick her out. Being pregnant can cause hormones to go awry, but the 'shes a teenager' line is a pretty bad cop out by the parents.
