Based at Forest Way bunkhouse we explore a secret gorge and head up the Scottish classic, Stac Pollaidh. Footage includes the scramble to the true summit.
Thanks to your superb video we managed to summit Stac Pollaidh today. It didn’t beat me this time. Currently staying at Forest Way Bunkhouse and we’ll certainly be back, a terrific base and Iain’s such a great guy. Planning my next trip up here already. Cheers
What a stroke of luck…Next week we have booked to stay four nights in the Forest Way bunkhouse and was looking for a rest day mini adventure. Stac Pollaidh was on the cards as I was beaten by the bad step a number of years ago in wet slippy conditions. Your vid has killed two birds, I now know how lovely the bunkhouses will be and I have an easier descent route sorted. Cheers Robin.. top notch video as always.
Hey Robin loved that one. Scotland, Scotland, Scotland. What a place full of wild experiences and hey cool bunkhouses like your friends. Apart from the impressive gorges there was some nice scrambling there. Looked as risky as the bridge. Ha ha! You survived to wash it down with some delicious fish and chips mind you. Good going. Cool music to. All the best. Mark
Iain’s got a fantastic setup there, so chilled out. My Dad took me Youth Hostelling in Ullapool back in the day you got cleaning duties from the warden 😄
Cheers Malcolm, the drone will never become the focus of my videos, will only use it to enhance them. It was a difficult purchase as I have been a bit anti drone. 😳
Nice little video Robin and you even got the drone out ;D I loved those waterfalls in the gorge, I must add that to my list of places still to visit:D I would have done the same as Nicola and not bothered with the scary scramble . Thanks for sharing this with us that bunk house looked good and so does the b&b I just looked at the website . atb Teddy
That fish and chips shop looked real busy it was quite empty last year when I was there and it also didn't have cod so had to make do with haddock ;-) Good bit of scrambling too and the waterfall was nice, mate :-)
Been passed it before but never stopped but looks like I have been missing out, what a great area and them falls were stunning. The bunkhouse accommodation were just what you needed, nothing to fancy but enough home comforts and looked spotlessly clean, which we always appreciate. I can see why your bonny lass did not fancy the climb but good to see you doing it and it did look a real nice climb up and great view from the summit of Stac Pollaidh. I am with you on the decent mind, looked a bit of a challenge but I bet a fish supper cheered you up lol. Cheers Alan
Some great views there, particularly liked the waterfall in the gorge and the drone shots. Nice to see Ullapool again, I was last there in 2017 and would love to go back to the area again.
I haven't climbed Stac Polly - it's definitely on my list! Maybe when I do I'll stay at the Forest Way - it looks great and there's so much to do in that area. We were planning to climb Cul Mor in March but the weather was atrocious - 65-75mph winds with lashing rain. Not unusual for that area. The weather gods smiled on you!
@@WalkWithWallace Brilliant holiday mate though no mountains 🤣Finishing them of with a trip up north😁..Bit of a drive though well worth it👍..Hopefully the weather holds 😂.
Good to see the gorge stuff. All new to me and doesn’t that bunkhouse look fantastic? Also nice to see some understated tasteful drone footage. I can see the drone bringing a fresh dimension to your films Robin. atb.
Cheers Stewart, the bunkhouse is smart. Iain runs a tight ship there. The drone was a bit of a mental battle to purchase, I've always been a bit anti drone. But they do create some nice supplementary footage to break it up a bit and as you say a fresh dimension. 😁
Lovely! Was that the Rick Stein chippy? I love Ullapool. Stac Pollaidh looked quite an exposed wee scramble. Only seen it from afar but looked excellent mate. Nailed the weather 👍
@@derekmcmanus8615 hey mate, I don't think he owns it. I climbed An Teallach years ago with my mate while my wife did a stained glass course in Ullapool. There was a big poster in the shop saying that it was one of Rick Stein's favourite Chippies in the UK. It may have been pish though, but it was signed so I took it at face value. Thanks for the info anyhoo.
@@mountain_del1863 lolz I'm fairly sure that Scotland has a good line in chip shops always did anytime I visited anyway. Entirely possible Rick Stein visited it he did a few seasons of that Food Tour of Britain a few years back. I met him once in Belfast in a bookshop perfect gentlemen.
I've always loved the profile of Stac Pollaidh and want to get it climbed even more now I've seen the wee scramble to the summit. Great vlog again mate but question... what do you have on your fish and chips? Do you put them in a wrap?? 😂
Great video mate, excellent work, if only you had run the video an extra 2mins at the start of your walk up Stac Pollaidh, a would of been in your video lol😂😂 bunkhouse looks minted👌🏻x
Aye he's got a cracking setup there. Yeah, I've been thinking about a drone for a good few months, but had a mental battle about it. If that makes sense. 😁
Very different from Nancy Smiths place at Fersit I stayed many years ago. It was 50p in the main accommodation and less in the converted hen house. You often just left your money in an honesty box as she would be away in the Alps or the Himalayas.
I read about Nancy Smith's place in Peter Kemp's book. It sounded like it had lots of character. Shame a lot of these places don't exist anymore. Gerry's Bunkhouse perhaps (ran by his son).
Walk With Wallace 👣 Different era. You could arrive in bothies and find tinned food left by previous users. Also inch or two of whisky in bottle. Similarly Nancy had a cupboard with essentials in it like tinned stew and you just left the money although it might be months before Nancy returned from some trip. There was an old boy called Davie lived in a bus outside. Self sufficient characters who lived outside main stream society.

The bridge wasn't too bad to be honest, apart from the planks wobbling under your feet. Scramble not nearly as bad as I expected.
lovely looking Bunkhouse there, clean, tidy, simple, and also smart with Chickens, cant go wrong, great area too., think i went to Ullapool as a kid.

yea, must train up the younger,, more inexperienced ones. done a bit youth hostelling myself, some of my experince comes from there.

thats true. the 90s and early 00s were heady days. man, we got so drunk up at some of the hostels, the night before we left of course!

Nice one Rob and great weather for it. Surprised you havent been up Stac P before. The bunkhouse looks agreat setup as well. Atb
I know, so many other class hills in that area though. The bunkhouse is ideally placed for the CWT and we can post food parcels to Iain. 👍🏼
Great video - thanks for sharing 😊🌲
Thanks Han, for some reason your comment went into the spam folder so only just discovered it.
Great video mate, beautiful area with the gorge and waterfalls, bunk house looked really nice, nice bit of rock climbing there with stunning views 👍👍

He put us up in the B&B, and it's lovely. He cooks a mean breakfast too. 🍳
Sounds good :D
Great video Robin. Looks great. Didn’t realise that Stac Pollaidh was only a Graham. Must be one of the most famous. 👍🏻
Stac Pollaidh and probably Suilven too. 😁

Nice one Robin, Looks like a great wee trip! See you've gotten the hang of the ol drone! 😀 Great vid! Cheers, Kris.
